<p>Twitter is continuously evolving and introducing new features over time. On Thursday, Elon Musk announced yet another feature that will allow Twitter Blue subscribers to upload two-hour-long videos. Taking to Twitter, Musk said, "Twitter Blue Verified subscribers can now upload 2-hour videos (8GB)!" This is a big change as Twitter Blue earlier allowed videos of 60 minutes to subscribers. Meanwhile, non-Blue subscribers will only be able to upload videos up to a length of 140 seconds.</p>

RIP YouTube? Elon Musk rolls out game-changing new video feature for Twitter Blue subscribers

A proposed class action lawsuit accusing Elon Musk of cheating Twitter shareholders has been thrown out by US District Judge in San Francisco. The lawsuit in fact claimed Elon Musk's belated disclosure of a significant stake in Twitter in fact allowed him to purchase additional shares at a lower price before the acquisition was announced. It also led to closing of the deal occurred much later than anticipated causing harm to the share holders.

<p>Scientists&nbsp;suffering insults and mass-spam are abandoning&nbsp;Twitter&nbsp;for alternative social networks as hostile&nbsp;climate-change denialism&nbsp;surges&nbsp;on the platform following Elon Musk's takeover.</p>

<p>Researchers have documented an explosion of hate and misinformation on&nbsp;Twitter since the billionaire Tesla owner took over in October 2022 — and now experts say communicating about&nbsp;climate&nbsp;science on the social network on which many of them rely is getting harder.</p>

Microsoft broke rules for developers, says Twitter

IPL 2023: Reliving CSK's plethora of highs under MS Dhoni's captaincy

<p>United Kingdom's Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is facing criticism online for misusing the feature of alt text on Twitter.<br />
<br />
Sunak shared a four-picture photo grid on Wednesday which showed cabinet members having a meeting. When a user clicks the images, each of them expands to reveal various things that the government claims to have done.<br />
<br />
“We are working day-in and day-out to grow the economy,” wrote Sunak in the caption of the social media post. The alt text field, in which the description is added to make the blind users understand what is present in the image, simply read: “We're growing the economy”.</p>

<p>For people who are unaware, alt text is the way in which images are made more accessible to those who have lost their eyesight or are visually impaired. The feature is generally used by social media users to describe the central information and key details in a photo or graphic.<br />
<br />
According to the Help Center article on Twitter, the aim of writing descriptions of images is to be concise and clear, while providing more context to the tweet.<br />
<br />
“It's important to capture the action, movement, relationships, noteworthiness, visual details, and anything unique,” it stated. It should be noted that this accessibility feature also works with screen readers.</p>

<p><br />
However, even though the photos tweeted by Sunak expanded and revealed the list of things which were done by the government, the same information did not appear in the alt text.<br />
<br />
Because of this, Sunak received backlash from social media users who criticised him for not adding a full description of the images.<br />

The approach of the government to the accessibility feature was criticised by charities representing blind people such as the Royal National Institute for Blind (RNIB).</p>

United Kingdom's Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is facing criticism online for misusing the feature of alt text on Twitter. Sunak shared a four-picture photo grid on Wednesday which showed cabinet members having a meeting. When a user clicks the images, each of them expands to reveal various things that the government claims to have done. “We are working day-in and day-out to grow the economy,” wrote Sunak in the caption of the social media post. The alt text field, in which the description is added to make the blind users understand what is present in the image, simply read: “We're growing the economy”. We are working day-in and day-out to grow the economy. pic.twitter.com/wYgxplNEZm — Rishi Sunak (@RishiSunak) May 17, 2023 × For people who are unaware, alt text is the way in which images are made more accessible to those who have lost their eyesight or are visually impaired. The feature is generally used by social media users to describe the central information and key details in a photo or graphic. According to the Help Center article on Twitter, the aim of writing descriptions of images is to be concise and clear, while providing more context to the tweet. “It's important to capture the action, movement, relationships, noteworthiness, visual details, and anything unique,” it stated. It should be noted that this accessibility feature also works with screen readers. Because of this, Sunak received backlash from social media users who criticised him for not adding a full description of the images. The approach of the government to the accessibility feature was criticised by charities representing blind people such as the Royal National Institute for Blind (RNIB). 'Worst alt text I've ever seen', say Twitteratis Responding to Sunak's tweet, RNIB tweeted a video demonstration of what the images shared sounded like to blind people who used a screen reader. Other Twitter account holders, which included author Adam Kay, described the misuse of the feature by Sunak as “the worst alt text I've ever seen”. Hello, Prime Minister - this is how your tweet sounds to blind and partially sighted people who use screen readers. There are 1000 characters available for #AltText, which can help make sure all the information you want to share is communicated. https://t.co/nCsTE8gKxY pic.twitter.com/LNkCbOJtrD — RNIB (@RNIB) May 18, 2023 × WATCH | UK inflation at 10-year-high, says report; PM Rishi Sunak claims economy is looking up | WION “Shame on whoever is running the @RishiSunak account. Absolute insult to visually impaired people the way you've abused the alt text field,” another user wrote. Meanwhile, BBC published a statement released by Downing Street which stated, “We use a broad range of methods and channels to communicate with the public and aim to ensure that they are as accessible as possible. That includes using alternative text on our social channels”. You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. Share your stories and opinions with us here. WATCH WION LIVE HERE

<p>Virat Kohli headlined Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) 187-run chase versus bottom-ranked Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 65 of IPL 2023 edition on Thursday (May 18) in Hyderabad. After Heinrich Klaasen's 104, off 51 balls, propelled SRH to 186 for 5, RCB rode on an impressive 172-run opening stand between centurion Kohli (63-ball 100) and skipper Faf du Plessis (47-ball 71) to win by eight wickets in 19.2 overs.</p>

<p>After the match, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar -- who remains quite active on social media platforms -- shared a tweet for Kohli and lauded the former Indian and RCB skipper for his splendid knock, laced with 12 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 158.73. This was Kohli's 6th IPL hundred and first since the 2019 edition.</p>

Since Musk purchased Twitter, advertisers have abandoned the service out of fear that their advertisements would be shown next to offensive content because the firm laid off over 80% of its workers. Earlier this year, Musk recognised the dramatic drop in Twitter's ad revenue. The appointment of Yaccarino as Twitter's new CEO, according to Musk, who is also the CEO of Tesla, will allow him to spend more time working at the electric vehicle company. Linda Yaccarino was advertising chief for Comcast Corp's NBCUniversal. Inspired by Musk, excited to transform Twitter: New CEO Linda Yaccarino

<p>A post on Twitter recently started a debate about whether the colour of the sun is white or yellow.</p>

<p>The debate started when writer Jacqui Deevoy tweeted last week that her childhood's round yellow sun had suddenly turned white and looked wonky.</p>

<p>This debate over the colour of the star of our solar system raised a very curious question – what indeed is the colour of the sun: yellow or white?</p>

<p>As per the scientists, the star has a bit of both, but neither of them is its colour. Sun is actually green.</p>

<p>Project scientist of NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory W Dean Pesnell said, “The sun would appear green if your eye could handle looking at it.”</p>

<p>“Basically, when you look at the sun, it has enough of all the different colours in it and it’s so bright that everybody’s eyes are firing like crazy and saying, ‘It’s too bright for me to tell you what colour it is.’ That’s why the sun looks white to us,” he added.</p>

<p>Pesnell explained that the star, which is 93 million miles away from Earth, usually appears like a white spot in the sky. However, many believe that it is yellow because of the way the light is scattered, he added.</p>

<p>Pesnell said that the molecules present in the air redirect the blue and violet wavelengths of the sunlight which allows more red and yellow wavelengths to hit one's eyes.</p>

<p>“Essentially, it’s a green star that looks white because it’s too bright, and it can also appear yellow, orange or red because of how our atmosphere works,” Pesnell said.</p>

<p>“What we perceive as the sun’s hue is really light bouncing off surfaces. When it comes to stars, colour equals temperature,” said Pesnell. He added that the star is hot, it gives off blue light and the cooler ones appear red.</p>

<p>With a temperature that hit 27 million degrees Fahrenheit in the sun's core, the star is “somewhere in the middle, in this weird space where we can’t perceive its colour,” Pesnell added, further stating that the glowing mass of gases is likely to change hues after millions of years.</p>

<p>“The sun is at its midlife, and it still has quite a lot of years before it changes colours. It still hasn’t dimmed out one bit,” Pesnell stated.</p>

Elon Musk announced on Thursday (May 11) that he has found someone who can replace him as the boss of the micro-blogging site Twitter, leaving people wondering who will take the reins next. On Friday, May 12, Elon Musk announced that Linda Yaccarino would assume the post of CEO of Twitter. In a tweet on Friday, Musk said, "I am excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter! @LindaYacc will focus primarily on business operations, while I focus on product design & new technology. Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app." Twitter became a top trend on Thursday after Musk had said in a tweet, "Excited to announce that I've hired a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will be starting in ~6 weeks!" He didn't provide any other details. The Wall Street Journal had earlier cited people familiar with the situation to say that the next chief executive officer of Twitter (X/Twitter) could be NBCUniversal's head of advertising, Linda Yaccarino. Musk in his earlier tweet had also mentioned: "My role will transition to being exec chair & CTO, overseeing product, software & sysops." Excited to announce that I’ve hired a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will be starting in ~6 weeks! My role will transition to being exec chair & CTO, overseeing product, software & sysops. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) May 11, 2023 × News agency Reuters had also reported that Yaccarino could get the top post at Twitter, quoting a Silicon Valley executive and a former Hollywood executive who spoke on condition of anonymity. Musk took over as CEO of Twitter when he completed his $44 billion purchase of the company in October, and in December he said that he would step aside when he will find "someone foolish enough to take the job". The buzz around Yaccarino's name along with Musk's message, had people asking - is she "foolish enough"? Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) December 18, 2022 × Who is Linda Yaccarino? So far it is known that Yaccarino is the top advertising sales executive at NBCUniversal. <p>A man from the United Kingdom (UK) has pleaded guilty to cyberstalking and computer hacking schemes, including the 2020 hack of Twitter, according to the US Justice Department on Tuesday (May 9). <p>O'Connor was arrested nearly two years ago in Spain for the hack. He used the accounts to solicit digital currency, prompting Twitter to prevent some verified accounts from publishing messages for several hours until security could be restored.</p>

Twitter 2.0? Musk says Twitter to soon allow voice & video calls, encrypt messaging

Twitter CEO Elon Musk will not lag behind in adding new features to the social networking site. The business tycoon announced on Wednesday that users can direct message reply to any message in the thread with emojis. Moreover, Twitter is going to introduce voice and video chat on its platform in the coming days for better communication.

Twitter to soon allow calls, encrypted messaging, Elon Musk says

Twitter flies free, at least for now after. This comes after a California federal judge dismissed a proposed class action accusing Twitter INC of targeting female employees for layoffs after Elon Musk acquired the company last year. But the court also said plaintiffs would be allowed to amend the lawsuit to add more details.

Twitter free from layoff lawsuit, for now

As part of a larger initiative by Twitter to clean up the network, CEO Elon Musk has just announced that the social media platform will soon deactivate accounts that have been dormant for several years. Users may also see a decline in their follower count as a result.

Elon Musk spearheads Twitter's 'cleanup' campaign

<p>Twitter avoided a proposed class-action lawsuit on Monday, which accused the social media giant of gender discrimination in its layoffs, after a California federal judge dismissed the case due to insufficient information provided by the plaintiffs.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Reuters reported that the judge allowed the plaintiffs to amend the lawsuit to add more details but ruled that the allegedly sexist remarks made by Elon Musk, cited by the plaintiffs, were irrelevant as they were made before he acquired Twitter in 2020.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Twitter has denied any wrongdoing in this case and the recently dismissed lawsuit accusing the company of discrimination against workers with disabilities.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Lawsuits have been mounting over Twitter ever since Elon Musk decided to lay off around half of the company's workforce, including nearly 2,000 former employees who have filed legal claims in arbitration.</p>

<p><strong>Birdsong Turned Sour After Musk’s Takeover</strong></p>

Twitter avoided a proposed class-action lawsuit on Monday, which accused the social media giant of gender discrimination in its layoffs, after a California federal judge dismissed the case due to insufficient information provided by the plaintiffs. Reuters reported that the judge allowed the plaintiffs to amend the lawsuit to add more details but ruled that the allegedly sexist remarks made by Elon Musk, cited by the plaintiffs, were irrelevant as they were made before he acquired Twitter in 2020. Twitter has denied any wrongdoing in this case and the recently dismissed lawsuit accusing the company of discrimination against workers with disabilities. Lawsuits have been mounting over Twitter ever since Elon Musk decided to lay off around half of the company's workforce, including nearly 2,000 former employees who have filed legal claims in arbitration. ‘Father went bankrupt, didn’t have happy childhood,’ Musk asserts his self-made credentials

<p>Rafael Nadal, on Thursday (April 20), announced that he will not take part in next week's Madrid Open after more setbacks in his recovery from a hip injury. The Spaniard got injured during the Australian Open early this month and has been out of action ever since. The 35-year-old revealed that his body will require more time to heal and has sent shockwaves to his ardent fans ahead of the French Open, which kicks off next month.</p>

<p>Nadal, the 22-time Grand Slam winner, took to his official Twitter handle to share a video where he said, "Hello everyone. It's been a while since I communicated directly with you. It has been a difficult few weeks and months. As you know I suffered a major injury in Australia, at the Psoas. Initially, it had to be a six to eight-week recovery period and we are now on fourteen. The reality is that the situation is not what we would have expected. All medical indications have been followed, but the evolution has not been what they initially told us."</p>

<p>"We find ourselves in a difficult situation. The weeks are passing and I had the illusion of being able to play in tournaments that are the most important in my career such as Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, and Roland Garros and for the moment I have missed Monte Carlo and Barcelona. I will not be able to be in Madrid unfortunately. The injury still hasn't healed and I can't work out what I need to compete. I was training, but now a few days ago we decided to change course a bit, do another treatment and see if things improve to try to get to what comes next. I can't give deadlines because if I knew I would tell you but I don't know. This is how things are now."</p>

<p>Nadal added, "I also want to send a special greeting to all the Madrid and Spanish public because I will have missed the two tournaments that are played here at home. You all know what it means for me to play these tournaments and specifically Madrid that I will not be able to play it with everything it has given me. I have no choice but to try to have the right attitude throughout this time, try to give myself the opportunity to compete in one of the tournaments that remains of the clay season and I have no choice but to work and be with the right mentality.</p>

<p>A very strong hug to all and as soon as I have news, I will inform you. Thank you!", he signed off.</p>
