Operation Mahadev: Indian army neutralises 3 Pahalgam terror attack suspects in Srinagar

Two terrorists were gunned down in an encounter in South Kashmir's Kulgam district on Wednesday (Oct 4). The operation began earlier in the day in the Kujjar area of Kulgam district.

Security forces had a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the area after which a cordon and search operation was launched. During the search operations, terrorists fired on the security forces, resulting in a gun battle.&nbsp;

''2 terrorists killed. Bodies of the killed terrorists being retrieved from the site of encounter. Cordon &amp; search operation is still in progress. Further details shall follow,” said Vijay Kumar, ADG, Jammu and Kashmir Police.&nbsp;

The bodies of the terrorists have not been retrieved yet from the operation site as security forces continue their combing operation in the area. Jammu and Kashmir Police had a tip-off about the presence of 2-3 terrorists&nbsp;in the area.&nbsp;

One more operation is on in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the Rajouri sector. The operation started on October 2 and still continues in the dense forest area of Kalakote in Rajouri district.&nbsp;

The Indian army said that specific intelligence about the movement of some unidentified individuals was received on Oct 1 by Jammu &amp; Kashmir Police.

It must be noted that the army had conducted a successful operation in the same area on Sept 13, which enabled a continuous flow of intelligence from the region, helped the army establish domination and exerted pressure on the terrorists.

Meanwhile, the operation in Gadole forests of Kokernag area in Anantnag district entered the fourth day. The Indian Army had lost one more soldier injured in the Kokernag gunfight on Friday, taking the toll to four.&nbsp;

The security forces resumed the operation on Saturday morning after a night halt. It’s the fourth day of the encounter and it has been over 80 hours since the operation began.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir police had earlier said that the terrorists have been spotted and cornered. At least two terrorists, including Uzair Khan of the Lashkar, have been surrounded in the cordon. The Indian army had said that the forces are using modern equipment like drones and other high tech gadgets to conduct the operation.&nbsp;

Security forces also destroyed two terrorist hideouts during the operation. They also recovered one AK 47 rifle, ammunition, food and utensils from these hideouts.

Earlier, two Indian Army officers and a DSP of Jammu and Kashmir Police were martyred in the Anantnag operation. The army colonel was identified as Manpreet Singh, who was Commanding officer of 19 Rashtriya Rifles, while the major was identified as Aashish Dhonchak. The DSP of Jammu and Kashmir Police was identified as Humayun Bhat, son of a retired police officer.

The Operation which lasted for four days resulted in the recovery of a cache of weapons, including two &nbsp;AK 47 rifles, one M16 A2 rifle, one pistol, one UBGL as well as ammunition and grenades.

Pakistan markings on eatables and a few other items indicate complicity of Pakistan, said Nagrota Corps officials.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, a terrorist was killed in an exchange of fire in an ongoing encounter at Saimoh in Tral belt of South Kashmir's Pulwama district.&nbsp;

“One terrorist has been killed in an ongoing exchange of fire so far while as one to two more are believed to be trapped,” a top official said. &nbsp;

He also added that the driver and conductor of the truck have been arrested by the police at another checkpoint."Truck driver and conductor were arrested at a further checkpoint by our forces. Following a tip-off, a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by police and security forces in Gujar Basti Gulshanpora area of Tral Awantipora. During the search operation, the hiding terrorists fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, three terrorists were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. The killed terrorists have been identified as Umer Fayaz Lone alias Hamad Khan resident of Seer Tral, Faizan Hamid resident of Mandoora Tral and Adil Bashir Mir alias Abu Dujana resident of Monghama Tral. The killed terrorists as per police records were affiliated with proscribed terror outfit of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and were wanted for their complicity in terror crimes including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities. According to the Police records, Umer Fayaz Lone had a long history of terror crime records since 2016 and was involved in planning and executing several terror attacks in the area. He was part of groups responsible for carrying out a series of terror attacks and many other civilian atrocities besides the killing of policeman Haleem Kohli of Gutroo Bangdar Tral. Incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes.

The target house has been razed to the ground. Mobile internet services have been suspended in the town.
