The wife of a former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent has claimed that an American Airline flight attendant allegedly locked her in the aeroplane's bathroom alongside her three-year-old son due to racism.&nbsp;

Yazz Giraldo, alongside her husband Ali Moghaddam and children, was flying from Fort Lauderdale in Florida to New York in September last year. During the flight, one of her kids wanted to urgently use the loo.&nbsp;Seeing that most passengers were using the washroom in front of the plane which was near her seat, Giraldo took her little son there but was soon stopped in the tracks by the flight attendant.&nbsp;

Afterwards, she was forced to go to the rear of the place to change the baby's diaper. There, another flight attendant told Giraldo that there was no restriction in using the nearby lavatory and she took her son in it.&nbsp;

However, soon Giraldo heard a noise indicating she had been locked inside the washroom from outside.&nbsp;

“I closed the door, when I’m inside the bathroom I start hearing the noise, ‘tick, tick, tick. I freaked out. I was already under so much stress. I started to panic, I banged on the door a few times and I said, ‘Let me out of here'," she was quoted as saying bY NY Post.&nbsp;

Giraldo, a former TV host said she lost count of time inside the toilet and upon being released, could feel herself 'shaking'. However, a supervisor soon came onto the scene and started scolding her, alleging that the pilot was forced to put the plane under a 'terrorist attack' warning because of her.&nbsp;

"I immediately knew it was racism. I immediately knew I was being discriminated against," she added.&nbsp;

Giraldo believes she was racially targetted because the flight attendants had heard her talking in Farsi to her toddlers.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Moghaddam became aware of the drama after the police came to escort his family off the plane in New York.&nbsp;

“I dedicated about a decade of my life to public service, to protecting the community. Joint Terrorism Task Force, undercover, S.W.A.T., all of this...for my family to be labeled as terrorist and be marched off a plane just because we want to change a diaper?” said Moghaddam, a former Pennsylvania prosecutor&nbsp;

“For me there’s certain terms that have a history and connotation that is very negative. That word terrorism is unique, especially considering all my sacrifices…you don’t throw that around.”

Giraldo is currently undergoing therapy while the family has filed a discrimination lawsuit in a&nbsp;Brooklyn Federal Court.&nbsp;

Russian government authorities released the video of the female suspect who has been detained in Sunday's blast case at a St Petersburg cafe in which a pro-war blogger Vladlen Tatarsky was killed.

In the released video, which has been recorded under duress, Darya Trepova can be heard admitting that she had handed the statuette that later blew up.

However, the 26-year-old suspect claimed that she was not aware that there would be an explosion and also did not admit to any further role.

Investigators stated that they had evidence which proves that Ukraine had organised the attack. However, Kyiv officials stated that this was the case of Russia infighting.

More than 30 citizens suffered injuries in the bomb blast in Russia's second city. Tatarsky (real name Maxim Fomin), aged 40, was attending a patriotic meeting along with supporters in the cafe on Sunday afternoon. He was present there as a guest speaker.

Another video has been circulating on social media showing a young woman, wearing a brown coat, entering the cafe before blast with a cardboard box.

The images show that the box was placed on a table before the woman sat down inside the cafe. In another video, a statuette is seen being handed to Tatarsky.

The Russian authorities released a brief excerpt of her interrogation in which Darya Trepova appeared under duress as she repeatedly sighed.

When she was asked by the interrogator if she knew why the authorities detained her, she said, "I would say for being at the scene of Vladlen Tatarsky's murder... I brought the statuette there which blew up."

When asked who gave the statuette to her, Trepova said, "Can I tell you later please?"

Later, the investigative committee further claimed that it had evidence that it was "planned and organised from Ukrainian territory".

Pakistan has overtaken Afghanistan as the country with most terror attacks in South Asia, according to the annual Global Terrorism Index report. The report has been released by Australia-based Institute for Economics and Peace.

Last year, Pakistan recorded the second largest surge in terror-related deaths worldwide, at 643. This number represented the largest year-on-year increase in the last decade.&nbsp;

As per the report, at least 55 per cent of terror-related victims were military personnel. It said that due to fatalities, Pakistan moved up four places to sixth position on the index.

It said 36 per cent of terror-related deaths in Pakistan were due to attacks by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). The BLA has overtaken the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to be the deadliest terror group in Pakistan. &nbsp;

The BLA claims that it is fighting for independence of Balochistan province in Pakistan. The province borders Iran and Afghanistan. Both the BLA and TTP have been designated as terror organisations by the United States and the UK.

This number represented the largest year-on-year increase in the last decade. As per the report, at least 55 per cent of terror-related victims were military personnel. It said that due to fatalities, Pakistan moved up four places to sixth position on the index. It said 36 per cent of terror-related deaths in Pakistan were due to attacks by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). The BLA has overtaken the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to be the deadliest terror group in Pakistan. The BLA claims that it is fighting for independence of Balochistan province in Pakistan. The province borders Iran and Afghanistan. Both the BLA and TTP have been designated as terror organisations by the United States and the UK. He barely escaped Pakistan with his life after angering its powerful military with his journalism. Now his story has become a&nbsp;comic&nbsp;book.

Taha Siddiqui's therapist told him not to dwell on the attempted kidnapping he suffered five years ago, or he would never escape his trauma.&nbsp;

"Clearly, I didn't listen to her at all," said Siddiqui with a smile.&nbsp;

He was speaking to AFP in his Paris bar, The Dissident Club, which he opened in 2020 as a refuge for exiles like himself.&nbsp;

It shares its name with his new autobiographical&nbsp;comic&nbsp;book&nbsp;-- co-authored with cartoonist Hubert Maury who was previously a French diplomat in Pakistan -- which is released on Wednesday in France and soon in other languages.

It opens with the moment in January 2018 when members of Pakistan's military pulled him&nbsp;from&nbsp;a taxi in broad daylight and shoved him into another car. Detention, torture and death were very real possibilities.

Two strokes of luck saved Siddiqui -- convincing the man holding his neck to release him, saying he would go quietly, and noticing that the passenger door was unlocked.&nbsp;

He leapt&nbsp;from&nbsp;the moving car, ran down the busy highway and managed to alert his media friends, swiftly organising a press conference about the attack in order to buy time.&nbsp;

Only after escaping to Paris did he discover he was on the military's "kill&nbsp;list" and could never return.&nbsp;

The road to atheism&nbsp;

The graphic novel goes beyond this incident to explain the spread of extremism and war in the region through the story of his religiously conservative upbringing in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.&nbsp;

"I chose to tell my story as a&nbsp;comic&nbsp;book&nbsp;because I couldn't have any when I was young," said Siddiqui.&nbsp;

"It will definitely piss off my father. I hope he won't see it."

Not that they have a good relationship. His father's response to the attempted kidnapping was to say he was being punished by God for not praying enough.

It was a classic Romeo-and-Juliet experience that challenged Siddiqui's own faith, after his family opposed his marriage to a Shia girl he met at university. The divide between the Sunni and Shia branches of Islam is a fraught and often violent faultline in Pakistan.

"That really triggered this thing in me that there's something wrong with the way we live," said Siddiqui, who is now a full-blown atheist.

'No regrets'&nbsp;

The attempted kidnapping put an end to a successful career. He had worked with many international media and won the prestigious Albert Londres prize for a piece on the Taliban banning polio vaccines.&nbsp;

His fearless criticism of the powerful&nbsp;Pakistani&nbsp;military made him a target, particularly a front-page story for the New York Times exposing their secret prisons.

"It was pretty crazy," said Maury, his co-author. "But that's what makes it such an interesting story.&nbsp;

"I find it impressive and remarkable. He risked not just his life but exile as well and cutting ties with his family."

Siddiqui said he has no regrets: "I chose this life but I didn't choose (the military's) reaction. That's on them, not me.

"Sometimes I'm sad. I really believed in the country at one time in my life but now less and less. Pakistan is a very dysfunctional country."&nbsp;

Siddiqui is already planning a follow-up that looks at the lives of other exiles.

"I wanted to take control because when I was attacked I lost control," he said.

Even his therapist is convinced, having recently visited the bar for a talk on exile and mental health.&nbsp;

"She said I was doing well and getting purpose out of what happened to me," he said. "I was really happy."

AFP reported citing security and local government sources that Hamad bin Hamoud al-Tamimi had been killed. The sources identified him as a top leader of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). The United States regards AQAP among al Qaeda's more dangerous branches.

Tamimi, a Saudi also known as Abdel Aziz al-Adnani, died in a drone strike on February 26 that targeted his residence in war-torn Yemen's northern Marib province, according to the statement reported by SITE, which monitors jihadist websites.

The statement identified Tamimi as a "media official" who "previously managed external operations in the group, including those striking American interests".

AQAP said Tamimi spent nearly four years in prison in Saudi Arabia before traveling to Yemen in 2013, where he expressed a desire to attack "vital" American interests and carry out a suicide attack himself.

The sources, requesting anonymity, told AFP Tamimi had headed AQAP's leadership council and acted as the militant group's "judge".

SITE said the Al-Qaeda statement had noted another media official, Abu Nasser al-Hadhrami, was "a victim of the attack".

AQAP and rival militants loyal to the Islamic State group have thrived in the chaos of Yemen's eight-year civil war, which pits the Saudi-backed government against Iran-allied Huthi rebels.

The blast took place near a stadium where Pakistan cricket stars, including captain&nbsp;Babar Azam&nbsp;and former skipper&nbsp;Shahid Afridi were playing in an exhibition match of Pakistani Super League (PSL) at the Nawab Akbar Bugti Stadium.

According to PTI news agency, the game was halted for some time following an explosion in the Police Lines area in Quetta.

Of late, Pakistan has been targeted by a wave of terrorist mostly in the country's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, apart from the restive Balochistan province and Punjab town of Mianwali.

The rise of attacks is being attributed to the breakdown of ceasefire negotiations with the Pakistani Taliban, or Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which seeks to impose extreme version of Sharia law in Pakistan.

TTP is responsible for various attacks in Pakistan since it was formed in around 2007. Their main target has been security forces, but civilians and other minority communities have also been attacked.

It is also responsible for the shooting of Nobel laureate and education campaigner Malala Yousafzai, who survived the attack.

Late last year, peace talks appeared to fail and the ceasefire TTP appeared to be honouring, ended.

A Turkish court froze the funding for the main pro-Kurdish party, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), on Thursday ahead of the possible imposition of a ban over the party's alleged terrorism ties.&nbsp;

The decision of the consitutional court will stop HDP, which is the second largest opposition party in the parliament, from receiving income from a key source for the general election which is slated for June.&nbsp;

"This is yet another blow to democratic politics," HDP spokesperson Ebru Gunay said.

"This decision will not intimidate us. Now, we are more committed and more determined. Now, we are more militant," she added.&nbsp;

The auto driver and a passenger sustained injuries and were admitted to the hospital on Saturday.

The police officials rushed to the spot and are probing the reason behind the explosion and fire.

Karnataka home minister Araga Jnanendra also suspected it to be a terror-related incident.

Citing the incident, Karnataka home minister said that the state police have launched an intensive investigation into the auto-rickshaw blast that took place in Mangaluru.

"Along with the state police, central investigation teams will also join hands. The investigation will proceed swiftly," he said.

"Persons injured in the incident are being given good treatment," he added.

Earlier on Saturday, Commissioner of Police (CP) of Mangaluru City N Shashi Kumar said, "At around 5 pm today, an auto rickshaw caught fire in the Kankanadi Police Station area. The reason behind the fire was a bag being carried by a passenger riding in the auto. The auto driver and passenger sustained burn injuries and have been admitted to the hospital."

CP Kumar further appealed to the local people not to believe any rumours.

"Forensic Science Lab team has been called to probe the reason behind the fire. The public should not pay heed to any rumours," he said.

Further investigation is underway.

On 17th November, a day before India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised on&nbsp;a “uniform, unified and zero-tolerance approach” against terrorism while inaugurating the NMFT Conference, the United Nations General Assembly heard renewed appeals for ‘substantive’ reforms in the UN Security Council. Countries such as Italy, Luxembourg and Japan called for the limits on the use of the veto by five permanent member nations.&nbsp;

“The legwork for that (to limit the number of vetoes) has already started,” said Wadhwa, who&nbsp;served as Indian envoy to Italy, Poland and Lithuania, Thailand, and Oman in the past.&nbsp;

‘Big gap’ on monitoring terror-financing through cryptocurrency, virtual asset routes

The New Delhi NMFT meet also called upon the participating states to design preventive measures, legislation and forward-looking technological solutions to counter threats from virtual assets and new financial instruments.&nbsp;

“There are only 60 countries who have actually started monitoring cryptocurrencies. The rest have not. There is a big gap between the countries when it comes to terror-financing through such channels,” Wadhwa said. “There has to be uniformity in monitoring non-banking financing of terror.”

NMFT meet and the Financial Action Task Force standards

The 93 countries and multilateral organisations that met in New Delhi affirmed commitment to Paris-based FATF’s Anti Money Laundering/Countering Financing of Terrorism standards &nbsp;in “promoting the implementation” of the said standards.

Abhijit Iyer-Mitra, senior research fellow at New Delhi-based Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies, said that the FATF standards to list countries for facilitating terrorism follow a “multiple choice questions or tick the box” criteria, adding, “the FATF list has to be a dynamic list.”

“The basic thing that India should insist on is that an FATF listing needs to be a principle-based application from rules-based application which is exactly what it is right now, a fill-the-checklist rules-based application,” &nbsp;Iyer-Mitra told WION.

In October 2022, the FATF took Pakistan off its “grey list” of countries under “enhanced monitoring” for facilitating terror-financing. The anti-terrorism financial watchdog reportedly welcomed what it called Pakistan’s “significant progress” in improving legal and government mechanisms to tackle terror financing.&nbsp;

“In fact, it is precisely the removal of Pakistan from FATF based on a checklist that India should use as an example of how it’s clearly not working,” Iyer-Mitra said.&nbsp;

Call for universal anti-terrorism standards

The ‘No Money For Terror’ meet also underlined that ‘opportunity for terrorist entities to access safe havens continues to be a significant concern’, reflecting India’s principal counter-terrorism challenge, supported and sponsored by Pakistan into Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;

Experts view New Delhi’s attempts to bring about a global consensus for a “uniform, unified and zero-tolerance approach” against terrorism as attempts that must translate into&nbsp;“punitive action against countries who actually sponsor or close an eye to terrorism”.

“If you do not set universal standards and you are always talking about cross-border terrorism – which is a euphemism for Pakistan – then that's something which is not taken seriously after a while because countries begin to perceive a political angle in it,” Wadhwa said.

“But on the other hand if every country is supposed to make certain obligations, then it becomes natural that everyone must oblige, even countries like China and Pakistan,” he said.

No Money For Terror meet: Ensure proposals for sanctions are not vetoed more than three times

The Government of India has reserved seats in the MBBS and BDS courses for the academic year 2022-23 for the terror&nbsp;victims in Jammu and Kashmir.

The government has decided to keep seats reserved from the central pool for the spouse or children of terrorist victims for the academic year 2022-23.

An official order was passed by the Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) citing a letter from the Ministry of Home Affairs.&nbsp;

''Pursuant to communication No.17015/47/2022-CT-II dated 01.11.2022 from Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, offline applications are invited from eligible candidates on prescribed format annexed as Annexure-A to this notification for allocation of MBBS/BDS Seats from the Central Pool for Spouse of Children of Terrorist Victims for the academic year 2022-23. '' said the government order.&nbsp;

The government has laid down the eligibility criteria for the students applying for the courses. Under this, the students applying need to be permanent residents of J&amp;K, the employees of the J&amp;K government concerned, the employees of central/other state&nbsp;government on deputation to J&amp;K and the employees of central /other State government posted in and having their headquarters in the state will be considered eligible.

“The children of central and state government employees aforementioned should be treated at par with the local resident,'' the order stated.

The government has also decided to give preference to those students who lost parents and to those who lost their earning family member&nbsp;in the terrorist attack.&nbsp;

''Children whose both parents have been killed by terrorists will come under priority 1. The children of families whose sole bread earners have been killed by terrorists will be under priority 2 and the wards of victims with permanent disability and serious injury caused by terrorist operations will be under priority 3,'' said the order.

The government order further states that the selection of the candidates would be made according to their performance in the National Eligibility-Cum Entrance Test (NEET) exam.

The last date for the submission for the application is November 11, 2022.&nbsp;
