Addressing a press conference, committee Chairperson Fuat Oktay said that the Swedish ambassador might be invited to the next session to provide further information on steps his country has taken to address Turkey’s security concerns.

Sweden and Finland had applied to join NATO last year to bolster their security after Russia launched a war against Ukraine. Finland's membership of the inter-governmental military was sealed in April this year. However, Sweden's bid had been held up by Turkey and Hungary.

Turkey has accused Sweden of being too lenient towards groups that Ankara regards as threats to its security, including Kurdish militants and members of a network that Ankara blames for a failed coup in 2016.

Turkey has also been angered by a series of demonstrations by supporters of the banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, in Sweden as well as Quran-burning protests.&nbsp;

On Thursday, Turkey's Deputy Foreign Minister Burak Akcapar briefed cabinet members on the steps Sweden took to meet Ankara's security demands. According to a report by the Anadolu Agency, Akcapar said that Kurdish militants were no longer able to find a “comfortable space for movement in Sweden.

“The Swedish government and public have begun to better understand the legitimate security concerns of our country,” he added.

The delay in approving Stockholm's NATO membership also comes as Turkey has also been at odds with the West over the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.&nbsp;

Nearly two weeks back, the parliament's foreign affairs commission said it would not speed up ratifying NATO membership. However, Erdogan said later he would try to facilitate it.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Ukraine announced last Thursday (Nov 9) that a global peace summit for Ukraine might now take place in February 2024 - which is the second anniversary of the Russian offensive.&nbsp;

President Volodymyr Zelensky's top adviser Ihor Zhovkva told Reuters that Ukraine would arrange a fourth meeting of national security advisers in late November or early December.

"And the Global Summit might take place in February 2024," he said.&nbsp;

As part of this strategic move, Saab has established a subsidiary, Saab FFV India, which will be responsible for manufacturing the latest generation of the Carl-Gustaf M4 system.&nbsp;

This marks the first time Saab will manufacture the Carl-Gustaf M4 system outside of Sweden. The new facility is expected to be in Haryana, India.

The Carl-Gustaf M4 system, known for its versatility and effectiveness, is a shoulder-fired rocket launcher extensively used by the Indian armed forces. It is also employed by countries such as the United States and various European nations to neutralize fortified enemy positions, armoured vehicles, and personnel.

The significance of this development extends beyond just foreign investment. It showcases India's growing ambition to access modern defence technology through foreign collaborations, ultimately enhancing its defence capabilities.

In a statement, Mats Palmberg, Chairman, and Managing Director of Saab India, expressed his pride, saying, "We are proud to be the first global defense company to be approved by the Indian government for 100 per cent&nbsp;foreign direct investment for our new Carl-Gustaf manufacturing facility in India. Saab's becomes first foreign defence company to get Indian govt nod for 100pc FDI

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan officially submitted Sweden's NATO membership application to the Turkish parliament on Monday, his office said, bringing closer the possible end of a 17-month standoff.

"Sweden's NATO membership protocol was signed on October 23, 2023 by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and sent to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey," the presidency posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Turkey and Hungary are last two NATO members which are yet to ratify Sweden's membership application. Sweden moved away from its long-standing policy of non-alignment after Russia invaded Ukraine and made an application to join the alliance.

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg welcomed Erdogan's move as well. He said he was looking forward to welcoming Sweden as a 'full NATO ally' soon

Erdogan had delayed approving Sweden's bid asking Stockholm to take actions on Quran desecrations in the country that have strained relations between the two countries.

Turkey alleges Sweden harbours outlawed Kurdish militants and has demanded their extradition.

Denmark and Sweden, on Tuesday (Oct 10), announced that they were suspending the development aid payments to Palestinian territories after Hamas launched unprecedented attacks against Israel. However, Copenhagen and Stockholm said that they would maintain humanitarian assistance.

The announcements came a day after the European Commission launched a review of its development aid to the Palestinians.

The government in Copenhagen said in a statement it "has decided to put Danish development assistance to Palestine on hold".

"A thorough review will be conducted to ensure that no Danish funding is misused to indirectly support terrorist organisations that attack Israel," it said.&nbsp;

The review will be conducted "in close dialogue with Denmark's partners in the EU and the Nordic countries," it said.

For 2023, Denmark had dedicated 235.5 million kroner ($33.5 million) as humanitarian and development aid for the Palestinian territories.

Approximately 72 million kroner of development aid has yet to be expended.&nbsp;

"It is this assistance that is now being put on hold," the statement said.

Sweden also said it was suspending development aid but did not provide any immediate details on the amount.

The Austrian government also announced, on Monday (Oct 9), that it was suspending development aid.

"We will put all development aid payments on ice for the time being," Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg told public radio Oe1.

Schallenberg also said Austria would review all projects with Palestinian areas and consult with the European Union and its international partners.&nbsp;

"The scale of the terror is so horrendous. It's such a fracture that one cannot go back to business as usual," he added.

He also announced that he would summon the Iranian ambassador to the ministry to address the country's "abhorrent reactions" to the Hamas attacks over the weekend.

<h2>EU halts development aid</h2>

The European Union halted development aid to Palestinians and is placing 691 million euros ($728 million) of support "under review" after the Hamas assault on Israel, Brussels said on Monday.

"The scale of terror and brutality against Israel and its people is a turning point. There can be no business as usual," European Union Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi posted on social media.

"As the biggest donor of the Palestinians, the European Commission is putting its full development portfolio under review, worth a total of EUR 691m," he added, in a message confirmed as accurate by a commission spokesman.

Oliver Varhelyi said the move meant "all payments immediately suspended. All projects are put under review. All new budget proposals, including for 2023 postponed until further notice. Comprehensive assessment of the whole portfolio."

EU foreign ministers are scheduled to hold emergency talks on Tuesday over the upsurge of violence between Israel and Gaza.

"Incitement to hatred, violence and glorification of terror have poisoned the minds of too many," Oliver Varhelyi said. "We need action and we need it now."

"Our parliament is very sensitive about these issues because there is a public opinion in Turkey," Yılmaz said.

"If we don’t see enough progress in practice, then the parliament will be under great pressure."

Yılmaz further sharing a clause to the approval from parliament said that it would fairly depend upon if “real concrete steps are taken against the terrorist groups or individuals that work openly against Turkey”.

It is unclear exactly how the military would get involved, but prior discussions suggest soldiers may take over some enforcement duties to free up officers' time to focus on combatting crime.

According to some critics, the proposed measures are superficial and only address the symptoms of violence rather than its underlying causes.

The recent surge in gang wars has been attributed to a conflict&nbsp;involving the Foxtrot network gang, which split into two rival factions after infighting.

The PM said Sweden had not seen anything like it before and that "no other country in Europe" was experiencing this kind of situation. He stressed that children and innocent bystanders were increasingly being caught up in violence across the country.

"The protest was unauthorised and led to traffic being blocked. The young woman refused to obey police order to leave the site," said prosector Isabel Ekberg.&nbsp;

"This is therefore a case of refusal to comply."

Hours before the July rally, Thunberg was convicted by a Swedish court and also slapped with a fine for disobeying police orders at a previous rally at the same port on 19 June.&nbsp;

Thunberg admitted to the Malmo district court that she had not abided by the orders from the police to relocate, but also denied criminality, citing the necessity created by the "climate crisis."&nbsp;

According to news agency AFP, as per the charge sheet, Thunberg "took part in a demonstration that disrupted traffic" and "refused to obey police orders to leave the site".

"It's correct that I was at that place on that day, and it's correct that I received an order that I didn't listen to, but I want to deny the crime," Thunberg told the court when asked about the charge against her.&nbsp;

Greta Thunberg to face another trial in Sweden over disobeying police order

An 8-year-old Swedish boy made an amazing discovery earlier this month while strolling down a beach during a family vacation.

Bruno Tillema ended up discovering a 900-year-old Viking artefact, which he initially mistook as “some weird part from a house.”

“We were spending our summer vacation on Gotland [a Swedish island]," his father, Andreas Tillema, was quoted as saying by Newsweek.

"We had just given him a book about fossils, and because of that he was actively scanning the ground with his eyes," he added.

The father said that Bruno picked it up and kept walking casually until his mother noticed he held something in his hands.

When the mother looked at the artefact, she could not really believe her eyes.

<h2>Archaeologist confirmed discovery</h2>

The curious family later contacted an archaeologist, who later confirmed on a video call that “it was indeed an artefact.”

It looked like an animal's head, adorned with intricate details. Later, they contacted the local administrative authority, Länsstyrelsen, who promptly dispatched a team of three archaeologists to examine the location.&nbsp;

Upon their arrival, Bruno guided them to the precise spot where he had made his discovery.

Following an initial inspection, experts from Gotland's museum conducted a comprehensive investigation at the site, and their efforts yielded rewarding results. Among their findings was yet another ornate buckle, this one taking the form of a ring.

"Both buckles are made of bronze and belong to costumes from the late Iron Age or early Viking Age," Therese Lindström, cultural environment manager at the County Administrative Board in Gotland County, said in a statement.&nbsp;

"Buckles designed as animal heads are usually associated with Gotland women's graves, while ring buckles are found in both men's and women's graves," he added.

It is strongly suspected that the burial site had been previously disturbed, causing the buckles to surface as the soil was ploughed.
