They picked up on the issue of NEET-UG paper leak and the death by suicide by at least 22 students to demand accountability from the Education Ministry. They started a protest at New Delhi's Jantar Mantar and announced that they would not leave till former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns. The students also claimed that an alternative route earlier used by residents had been closed by the Forest Department, leaving them with limited access to the area. Even as authorities attempted to stop them, they marched inside the DM's office. They said they had staged a protest on July 3, following which soil was dumped on the road as a temporary measure. But with the arrival of rain, the road once again turned into mud.</p>

<p>Another protest in Uttar Pradesh's Kishanpur, Fatehpur district was staged by around 1,500 students of Sarvodaya Inter College. It was a four-hour peaceful sit-in protest on July 28, 2026 to demand clean drinking water, working fans, repaired classroom infrastructure, and proper midday meals. The sit-in protest forced local education authorities to provide written assurances for immediate fixes. District education officials and the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) rushed to the campus, committing in writing to install four fans per classroom, set up an RO water cooler, repair electrical wiring, and fix sanitation issues.</p>

<p><strong>Bihar: </strong>More than 40 students from Simuara Middle School in Gaya district marched to the Tikari Sub-Divisional Office on July 30 to demand action over poor school management and the absence of basic amenities. The students complained about poor-quality midday meals, a broken hand pump, unclean toilets and the lack of sports equipment. Tikari SDM Praveen Kundan directed the school's headmaster to resolve all issues within five days. <p><strong>Madhya Pradesh: </strong>Dozens of schoolgirls in Sironj, Madhya Pradesh, took to the streets after protesting against a rise in bus fares. Students of Kanya Higher Secondary School gathered at the Sironj bus stand and raised slogans for nearly half an hour. Days after Gen Z protest in India made waves forcing the country's education minister to resign over the paper leak in medical entrance examination, Gen Alpha, the generation next to the GenZs have also stepped up. In several states, Gen Alpha are protesting against the administration to demand better roads, schools and basic amenities. This wave of protest began when when young students under the leadership of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) started protesting at the heart of the country last month. The CJP, that originated on May 17 as a satirical social media page on Instagram after Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant called unemployed youths as “cockroaches” while hearing a case on May 15. He later clarified his remark but the damage was done. As more and more people joined the page, the makers decided to bring it outside the world of internet. They picked up on the issue of NEET-UG paper leak and the death by suicide by at least 22 students to demand accountability from the Education Ministry. They started a protest at New Delhi's Jantar Mantar and announced that they would not leave till former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns. On Jul 25, Pradhan did resign. The MLC issued by the department of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery at Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC), allegedly stated: “The patient underwent surgery for foreign body retrieval under GA [general anesthesia] on 21/07/2026.” Under diagnosis, it said, “Foreign body impaction in multiple sites of head and neck.” nder “ENT Operation Theater (OT) notes”, it said, “Metallic foreign body retrieved (size around 2mm) from right maxillary antrum...Right oral cavity assessed for foreign body. One metallic foreign body of 2mm size retrieved from the right lower labial mucosa.. It explained its stance: “Claims circulating on social media that a protester sustained gunshot injuries during the July 20, 2026, protest in Central Delhi are not corroborated by the MLC findings. MLC records a lacerated wound in front of the right tragus, with the nature of injury described as blunt. As per doctor’s opinion, it is a simple injury and there is no evidence of gunshot injury. Therefore, the claim of gunshot injury is not supported by the medical findings on the MLC. The public is advised to verify information through authentic sources before sharing such claims.”</p><p>&nbsp;</p>

<h2>What Supreme Court said?</h2><p>While hearing a plea alleging the use of pellet guns by the Rapid Action Force against the student protests in Delhi last week, the Supreme Court asked government to preserve the ammunition log of RAF deployed at Jantar Mantar. The court was hearing a plea in which the petitioners sought a ban on the use of pellet guns (projectile action guns) by law enforcement agencies for civilian crowd dispersal. The court called it "vague" as the petitioner's did not challenge the police regulations which permit the use of such weapons. It also said that pellet use is allowed in “exceptional situations.” However, it said that it was ready to examine the use of pellet guns in the July 20 protest. Reports also mentioned a general diary entry at the Parliament Street police station that documented the deployment of anti-riot munitions, including plastic pellet rounds, during the July 20 student march. A senior Delhi Police officer quoted by HT said, “During any such demonstration, where it is expected that such a situation can arise due to the crowd, we call for paramilitary forces and ask them to bring anti-riot weapons. We don’t decide what all they can bring. When the violence broke out during the Cockroach Janta Party’s ‘Chalo Sansad’ march on July 20, the security personnel were asked to use force and anti-riot gear against protesters.”</p><h2>What are the political reactions?</h2><p>Opposition including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi wants government's response on the issue. In a press conference, Gandhi presented 19-year-old protester Sahil Lochab, showing facial and severe right-eye injuries reportedly sustained during the police crackdown. I have been in Russia for the past four months. He urged the police to remove his name adding, "Since I am in Russia, I request the administration to remove my name from there. I will remain indebted to the administration for this,” news agency PTI reported on Wednesday. He said police can verify his presence at the examination center with multiple CCTV cameras.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>As the cases surfaced, AIMIM MLA Tausif Alam demanded an impartial investigation into the matter and action based on the facts. Bahadurganj Zila Parishad member Imran Alam stated that the inclusion of a person present abroad in the FIR raises serious questions about the police investigation.</p><h2>Did Bihar Police mistakenly name man in NEET protest case?</h2><p>However, Kishanganj Superintendent of Police Hari Mohan Shukla neither confirmed nor denied the claims while speaking to PTI. “All those who have any grievances related to the protests could approach the police for redressal,” the SP said when specifically asked about Sadaqat's purported video.</p><p>The official X handle of the state police had also responded to the video and said it would look into it. But that post has since disappeared, possibly been deleted. SDPO Khusru Siraj stated that the names of the accused were included based on a viral video, a list provided by the Circle Officer, and inputs received from locals and the village watchman. The government guaranteed that no future direct or indirect action will be taken regarding incidents before the cutoff time. However, even as three days since the announcement, the arrested students have not been released, said a parent from Kishanganj district to WION, on condition of anonymity. He said, “My son has not been released yet and they are not telling what is the update, is there any legal process pending. They should tell us."</p>
