Police officials then decided to visit the schools every Tuesday to open the boxes and find a resolution to the complaints.

"In compliance with the orders of Mr. Superintendent of Police, a total of 12 complaint letters were received in the pink complaint boxes in the month of November, which were resolved promptly," said the Hardoi Police in a post on X.

They offered resolution to many children and also mediated fights between them. The police ensured that the two sides were heard and the issue was resolved amicably.

A 22-year-old man in Poland’s Warsaw was arrested for posing as a mannequin and executing a “well-planned” heist at a jewellery store.

According to the police, the accused, who has not been named, zeroed in on the jewellery store after “hunting” various departments after the mall was closed.

In the photo released by the police, the man can be seen standing still and holding a bag in the window of a store.

Notably, neither the store employees nor the shoppers were able to notice him as he appeared to blend in well with other mannequins.

“With a bag in his hand, he stood still in front of a shop window, pretending to be a display mannequin. When he felt safe, he went hunting and robbed the island of jewellery,'' police in the central Warsaw district of Srodmiescie said in a statement.

The cops said that the man stood still for hours until "he felt it was safe" to move.

He walked through various departments after closing time before targeting the jewellery store, the police said.

Meanwhile, some shoppers said they are fearful during shopping amid the rise in organised retail theft.&nbsp;

<h2>US retailers justify placing products under lock and key</h2>

According to a report by AFP, major American retailers like Walmart and Target, drugstore chains CVS and Walgreens as well as home improvement firm Home Depot and Dick’s Sporting Goods are among some of the growing number of companies who have voiced concerns about the thefts, including some violent incidents.&nbsp;

They have also spoken about how it has affected their recent earnings. “Organised retail crime, and theft in general, is an increasingly serious issue impacting many retailers,” said Lauren Hobart, chief executive at Dick’s during a conference call, as quoted by AFP. She also called the impact of stealing on the company’s inventory “meaningful”.&nbsp;

In a separate briefing, Target chief executive Brian Cornell said, “During the first five months of this year, our stores saw a 120 per cent increase in theft incidents involving violence or threats of violence.” He also noted how this loss of inventory due to theft is well above what is sustainable over the long term.&nbsp;

According to the National Retail Federation’s Retail Security Survey 2022, American retailers&nbsp;lost some $94.5 billion nationwide to the so-called “shrink” in 2021. In this context, shrink refers to the loss of inventory from factors including staff theft, shoplifting or administrative errors.

The survey also noted that retailers on average saw a 26.5 per cent rise in organised retail crime in 2021 and a majority of respondents said that the pandemic has led to an increase in risks.

<h2>What is causing this rise in violence and theft?</h2>

The US Federal Reserve has announced consecutive interest rate hikes taking the number once close to zero to around 5.5 per cent over 18 months, which is the highest in 22 years.&nbsp;

The higher interest rates have not only made it pricier to borrow funds for bigger purchases but also made it difficult for companies to expand while American consumers have been feeling the squeeze.&nbsp;

<h2>Measures taken by the stores</h2>

The rise in theft has prompted stores to install transparent walls with locks on shelves, sometimes padlocked chains on refrigerators, and scattering call buttons in aisles for staff, according to AFP. Additionally, stores also sparsely stock unprotected shelves.&nbsp;

Some retailers have closed stores due to the rise in theft and lack of profitability. In 2021, Walgreens closed five stores in the US city of San Francisco due to theft.&nbsp;

<h2>US shoppers are afraid&nbsp;</h2>

Ann McGee, a New Yorker from the borough of Queens, told AFP that she doesn’t like the recent fear she has while shopping, amid a rise in theft. “It’s not normal to be scared” when shopping, McGee told the news agency.&nbsp;

She has been a resident of the borough for more than four decades now and said she has recently been so concerned about her safety that she leaves her purse and jewellery – including her wedding ring – at home when she goes shopping.

After a dangerous TikTok trend led to indiscriminate stealing of cars in the US, particularly of the Hyundai and Kia models, the city of New York is suing the South Korean carmakers.&nbsp;

The city accused the automakers of negligence and creating a public nuisance by selling vehicles that are too easy to steal. New York argued that the carmaker did not install anti-theft devices called immobilizers on most of their cars between 2011&nbsp;and 2022, making it easy to steal them.&nbsp;

“In electing profits over safety and deviating from industry norms by not including engine immobilizers as a standard safety feature, defendants created and maintained a public nuisance,” read the filing submitted to the US&nbsp;District Court in the Southern District of New York.

“This case is a clear example of what happens to public safety when car manufacturers choose not to include standard anti-theft technology in their cars,” the filing added.

“Making sure cars are not easy to steal protects both property and the public by keeping dangerous drivers in stolen vehicles off the roads,” it said

The thieves took videos of them stealing the cars and posted them on the ByteDance-owned platform with the hashtag&nbsp;“Kia Boys”.&nbsp;

New York City has joined the likes of&nbsp;Baltimore, Cleveland, Milwaukee, San Diego, and Seattle to have sued the South Korean automaker.&nbsp;

"I was up and down every few hours, as you are with a two-week-old, and I was actually awake when the car was taken," she added.&nbsp;

Several electrical substations in the Baltimore region were allegedly targeted and attacked&nbsp;by a Maryland woman and a Florida neo-Nazi leader, according to authorities on Monday (February 6). The suspects, Brandon Russell of Florida and Sarah Beth Clendaniel of Maryland, are accused of planning to shoot at electricity substations in Norrisville, Reisterstown, and Perry Hall, according to court filings.

Clendaniel&nbsp;planned to "completely destroy this whole city" and collaborated with&nbsp;Russell, who was recently arrested in Florida, to shoot out substations using "sniper attacks" to shut down the electrical grid. A picture of a woman identified by investigators as Clendaniel, who was holding a gun and wearing tactical gear displaying a swastika, was also included in the complaint, as reported by the Associated Press.

While speaking with the hotel staff, he’d often boast about his “work and life with the Royal family of Abu Dhabi” to look influential, authorities said.

Wearing a floral dress, white sneakers, orange latex gloves, a white wig and a dark face mask or neck "gator", the unidentified successfully pulled off the heist. According to CBS46 news TV, the suspect is described as a Black man, around 6 feet tall and slim.

According to the police, the incident took place in Henry County, southeast of Atlanta, on Monday.

The man in disguise arrived at Chase Bank in the city of McDonough carrying a pink bag and armed with a gun. He then reportedly gave a note to a member of staff demanding money, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution&nbsp;reported citing police.

After taking the money, the man drove off in a small, white SUV that police believe could have been a recent Lexus model. A tag wasn’t spotted.

Photos of the disguised accused were shared on Facebook by&nbsp;McDonough Police Department.

"Based on CCTV recordings and photos taken inside the bank, the department was able to confirm that the suspect was wearing a floral dress, a wig, and a black mask," the department wrote.

According to reports, thieves had disassembled a 58-foot bridge installed in a field near a creek in&nbsp;Akron, Ohio.

On November 3, locals found that the treated deck boards on the bridge had been removed. And about a week later, the entire structure was stolen from the area.

Police said the bridge was installed in the early 2000s as part of a restoration project, but the city later decided to use it for another project and kept it in the field for later use.

Although it is not clear why the bridge became the victim of their heist, but police suspect that they wanted to sell it to scraps for money.

But little did they know that the material of the bridge, measuring 10-feet wide and six-feet high, is composed of polymer-based materials, which, the police said, is hard to sell and recycle.

The bizarre incident has left the police baffled who were wondering how the thieves managed to get away with it.

“I have not heard of anything that large — albeit it disassembled but actually stolen, I can’t think of anything comparable in my 22 years [at the Akron Police Department],” Lt. Michael Miller told News 5 Cleveland.

“We know it will be met with mystery and questions: who and how and why? All of those are unanswered. It ranks high on the list of mysteries, that’s for sure,” he added.

The value of the structure is estimated to be about $40,000 by the city’s engineering department.

Grand heist? Police flabbergasted to find stolen 58-foot bridge in US

A California couple abandoned their children and went incognito after stealing millions of dollars from the government in Covid relief money.

According to reports, Richard Ayvazyan, 43, and Marietta Terabelian, 37, allegedly submitted false claims and pilfered $18 million of Covid relief aid and used those funds on luxury villas and jewellery.

The Covid relief funds— disbursed under the Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster Loans scheme— were meant to help business owners struggling due to the impact of the pandemic.

But the absconding couple spent the money on expensive homes in high-end neighbourhoods in Los Angeles and other locations in California.

On Monday, a local court found the pair guilty of fraud and sentenced them to jail, despite not attending the court hearing.

Ayvazyan was handed a 17-year sentence while Terabelian was given six years, according to reports.

Artur Ayvazyan, Richard's brother, was given a five-year sentence for his role in the scam.

The couple’s modus operandi involved using fake and stolen identities to get their hands on the funds. The scam saw the suspects steal dozens of identities and produce fake ones, which they used to submit claims.

The whereabouts of Richard Ayvazyan and Marietta Terabelian remain unknown. The FBI is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to their arrest.

The couple’s three children— aged 13, 15 and 16—are under the care of their grandmothers and a court-appointed guardian.

But the absconding couple spent the money on expensive homes in high-end neighbourhoods in Los Angeles and other locations in California. On Monday, a local court found the pair guilty of fraud and sentenced them to jail, despite not attending the court hearing. Ayvazyan was handed a 17-year sentence while Terabelian was given six years, according to reports. Artur Ayvazyan, Richard's brother, was given a five-year sentence for his role in the scam. The couple’s modus operandi involved using fake and stolen identities to get their hands on the funds. The scam saw the suspects steal dozens of identities and produce fake ones, which they used to submit claims. The whereabouts of Richard Ayvazyan and Marietta Terabelian remain unknown. The FBI is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to their arrest. The couple’s three children— aged 13, 15 and 16—are under the care of their grandmothers and a court-appointed guardian. The books which were stolen include works of English scientist Isaac Newton, and Spanish artist Francisco Goya. Additionally, the content also referred to Galileo Galilei, as revealed by the Metropolitan Police.

The gang had stolen the books in January 2017 from a warehouse in Feltham, west London. At that point, the books were being held in the warehouse and were on their way to a book fair in the United States. The books were shipped from Italy and Germany.

The midnight raid was supposed to start at 12 am, but due to the huge crowd, the doors had to be opened 10 minutes early.

"We do not assist art thieves with packing or transporting artworks, so you are responsible for everything," a notice outside the gallery read.

The theft was originally planned for a small group and was expected to continue for 10 days. However, as soon as the doors were opened for the thieves, all the art work was gone within 10 minutes.

The theft became so popular that people kept pouring in even after the exhibition organisers announced that the theft experiment was finished. This forced&nbsp;a nearby police station to dispatch officers for crowd control. "You are blocking traffic!" officers shouted.

The organisers, other than this, made sure the local police was well-informed about the ongoing experiment, and all irregular activities were reported.

China hacked a US Navy contractor and got hold of secret information on the Navy's weapons plans as well as other sensitive information about military technology, reports said on Friday.&nbsp;

The hack attack resulted in the Chinese government stealing over 600 gigabytes of data about US Navy's missile project. The revelation of the cyber attack,&nbsp;comes days before President Trump attends a summit in Singapore with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who counts Beijing among his allies.

The attack targeted the contractor's unclassified network.

Among the stolen data planned for a supersonic anti-ship missile that was planned to be on US submarines by 2020.

The breaches took place in January and February, the officials told the Post, speaking on condition of anonymity about an ongoing investigation led by the Navy and assisted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The FBI did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

"Per federal regulations, there are measures in place that require companies to notify the government when a 'cyber incident' has occurred that has actual or potential adverse effects on their networks that contain controlled unclassified information. It would be inappropriate to discuss further details at this time," the US&nbsp;Navy said in response to a query from Reuters.

The Chinese Embassy apparently does not know about the hacking, adding that the Chinese government "staunchly upholds cybersecurity, firmly opposes and combats all forms of cyber attacks in accordance with law."

The hacked material comprised 614 gigabytes relating to a project known as Sea Dragon, as well as signals and sensor data, submarine radio room information relating to cryptographic systems and the Navy submarine development unit’s electronic warfare library, the Post reported.

Reports of the hack come as tensions between Beijing and Washington continue to rise over a range of issues including trade and military matters.
