What if the universe’s secrets were hiding in the innards of a black hole? Scientists seem to think so.

For long, black holes existed in Hollywood films and science fiction books. But when the first-ever image of one was released last year, the interest in black holes and their anatomy has increased.

Pōwehi

One of such black holes - Pōwehi is allegedly a repository of all of universe’s history. According to a report in New Scientist, the rings of light trapped in the hole’s orbit may be a historical record of its kind.

Comparing the rings of light or photons to a tree, or frames that constitute a film, scientists believe it’s where the history of all universe is stored. In essence, this would make black holes a constituent yet small piece of the puzzle we call the universe, and know very little about.

Most knowledge about black holes is extrapolatory, based on juxtapositions and far-off observations, and perhaps we will never know what lies inside one of the holes, as&nbsp;the gravitational pull in the holes is strong enough to swallow everything that crosses its path! What scientists do know is that black holes are created in the aftermath of a star’s death, or a supernova.

Photon rings are important

The series of photon rings in the black hole can help scientists study its properties, much like studying branches of a tree to understand its structure.

“Together, the set of subrings are akin to the frames of a movie, capturing the history of the visible universe as seen from the black hole,” the paper asserted.

However, black holes are complex entities. Even if we were to somehow access photon rings, we would need to do it on time.

New rings are formed every six days, and they last no longer than this time period, after which the hole swallows them.

So, we may not be able to peek into the past, or perhaps the future, just yet!

Stars have an expiry date and die out like all entities in the universe. Everything in the universe, including our sun will become non-functional at one point in the future.

When they die, they go out with a large explosion which is called a “supernova”. Stars usually collapse due to the weight of gravity when they run out of fuel, which produces a strong explosion. Additionally, some stars simply morph into a black hole. These are the two ways for stars to go out.

Most stars, after completing their life cycle simply become white dwarfs, which refers to the core of what once used to be a star. Astronomers claim that the core material is the key ingredient in all living forms.

Dead light?

Recently, a collaboration of telescope based research across the globe found that a dead star is emitting an unusual combination of radiation in the Milky Way galaxy. This has never been witnessed before.

<h6><img alt="This NASA artist's animation obtained April 10, 2013 depicts an ultra-dense dead star, called a white dwarf, passing in front of a small red star. As the white dwarf crosses in front, its gravity is so great that it bends and magnifies the light of the red star. NASA's planet-hunting Kepler space telescope was able to detect this effect, called gravitational lensing, not through direct imaging, but by measuring a strangely subtle dip in the star's brightness. The red dwarf star is cooler and redder than our yellow sun. Its companion is a white dwarf, the burnt-out core of a star that used to be like our sun. Though the white dwarf is about the same diameter as Earth, 40 times smaller than the red dwarf, it is slightly more massive. The two objects circle around each other, but because the red dwarf is a bit less massive, it technically orbits the white dwarf. Kepler is designed to look for planets by monitoring the brightness of stars. If planets cross in front of the stars, the starlight will periodically dip. In this case, the passing object turned out to be a white dwarf not a planet. The finding was serendipitous for astronomers because it allowed them to measure the tiny &quot;gravitational lensing&quot; effect of the white dwarf, a rarely observed phenomenon and a test of Einstein's theory of relativity. The radiation involves two phenomena: magnetars and Fast Radio Bursts. The former refers to remains of stars which is home to the world’s most intense magnetic fields. Once active, the magnetars emit radiation harbouring high amounts of energy, which mostly last shorter than a second but produce more light than our sun!

Fast Radio Bursts refers to waves that appear and disappear. These mostly last for lesser than a few milliseconds. These were first discovered in 2007. After disappearing, these are barely spotted again.

Until now, no such burst was detected in our galaxy!

In the month of April, scientists discovered something uncanny. A magnetar which was already logged six years ago suddenly showed signs of activity again. Its official name is “SGR 1935+2154”. However, as opposed to a usual magnetar, it was emitting radio waves alongside x-rays.

In essence, this may hold answers to the unsolved mysteries of magnetars and FRBs. Until this year, radio waves never emerged from a magnetar, or at least not on record.

The finding was confirmed across different space stations on the globe. This serves as the first basis for any scientific link between magnetars and FRBs, which were earlier seen as separate entities.

Scientists had, for a long time suspected that Fast Radio Bursts emerge from magnetars, which are also likely to be responsible for explosions that emit a large amount of light.

UK is set to boost its ability to handle threats posed by Russia and China in space as part of a foreign, security and defence policy review being conducted by the UK government, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said late on Saturday.

Britain on Thursday said it was concerned about a Russian satellite test which involved the launch of a projectile with the "characteristics of a weapon".

"This week we have been reminded of the threat Russia poses to our national security with the provocative test of a weapon-like projectile from a satellite threatening the peaceful use of space," Wallace wrote in The Sunday Telegraph newspaper, adding that China also posed a threat.

"China, too, is developing offensive space weapons and both nations are upgrading their capabilities. Such behaviour only underlines the importance of the review the (UK) government is currently conducting," he added.

Tensions between Britain and Russia have been high in recent weeks, as Britain has targetted Russians with new sanctions, accused Russian actors of trying to meddle in last year's election and said Moscow has tried to hack into vaccine research.

Separately, Britain announced on Monday it would suspend its extradition treaty with Hong Kong in an escalation of a dispute with China over its introduction of a national security law for the former British colony.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Boris Johnson ordered equipment from China's Huawei Technologies to be purged completely from Britain's 5G network by the end of 2027.

China - once courted as the prime source of investment in British infrastructure projects - has accused Britain of pandering to the United States.

The Mail on Sunday reported that Johnson was also set to overhaul the United Kingdom's treason laws to counter threats posed by China and Russia, with the step likely to see a new Treason Act, a new Espionage Act and a rewriting of the Official Secrets Act.

Scientists recently discovered 37 volcanic structures on the planet of Venus situated in our solar system. These volcano-esque structures were active until very recently, or perhaps still are - scientists are not sure.

For a long time, Venus was perceived as a dormant planet, but this new information proves otherwise.&nbsp;The researchers focused on coronae, which are ring-like structures made after hot rocks emerge from the deep centre of the planet. This in turn, solidified claims of intense tectonic activity on the planet.

Not a dormant planet

On Monday, July 20, scientists claimed the planet not only had volcanic structures but these were also very similar to those on Earth, contrary to previous beliefs. Earth’s surface is reshaped by tectonics, the similar ones found on Venus. It was earlier believed that Venus had stayed dormant for the past half a billion years.

"Our work shows that some of that interior heat is still able to reach the surface even today. Venus is clearly not so geologically dead or dormant as previously thought," said Anna Gülcher, Earth and planetary scientist, the Institute of Geophysics in&nbsp;Zurich, lead author of the research published in the journal Nature Geoscience.

Based on their findings, the scientists extrapolated that such features appear on planets if there was a recently active corona, suggesting similar offshoot activity on the planet.

Looking for more answers, the scientists juxtaposed old NASA data with their findings. They referred to radar images of Venus from NASA’s Magellan spacecraft from the 1990s to find coronae which would fit the description.

They went looking for one, but found many. Out of the 133 which were examined, 37 showed signs of activity in the last 2-3 million years. In geological terms, it’s not as long as one might think. Stars and planets live for way longer than human beings before collapsing or becoming dormant, and this is testimony to that.

Still active? Probably yes!

In fact, scientists believe that many of such structures could actually be active today. "In my opinion, many of these structures are indeed active today," said University of Maryland geophysicist and study co-author Laurent Montesi.

Coronae, as the name suggests, signify a circular area and the fields around it. These fields include lava flows, and considerable tectonic faults, similar to the movement that triggers eruptions and earthquakes on Earth.

Most of the 37 coronas were found within a large circular area in the Southern Hemisphere of Venus. One of these coronas span over 2,100 kilometres (1,300 miles) in diameter. It’s called Artemis!

Throughout this week, Jupiter will be at its brightest in the sky. The planet will reach “opposition” last night (July 14), which implies that the planet will now be directly opposite the sun in the sky, and the nearest to Earth.

Due to this, the planet will be visible with the naked eye in the constellation Sagittarius for the whole month. People in North America will be able to see the constellation. One can follow the Summer Triangle asterism to find the constellation if you’re unable to find it. This can be achieved by imagining a line from the Deneb star, and then through the Altari star, through which one could locate the constellation.

Leave the city!

To get the best view of the planet, one should get out of the city lights, and buildings around the city. Also, once you are able to reach a pitch dark location, give your eyes 15 minutes to acclimatise to the red filters.

The planet will be visible in the sky immediately after sunset, and will be at a magnitude of -2.7, which denotes the brightness of the planet. The more negative this is, the more bright the planet is. Today, Jupiter will be brighter than the star which emits the most light in the Earth sky - Sirius, a Northern Hemisphere star.

However, incase the sky is hazed with clouds and you are unable to witness it, don’t fret. The planet will be visible for the upcoming weeks.

According to a skywatching website - In The Sky, the planet will reach its highest point in the sky every night, but with a haste of 4 minutes over the preceding night. Additionally, it may be witnessed in the evening sky for a few months.

Throughout this week, Jupiter will be at its brightest in the sky. The planet will reach “opposition” last night (July 14), which implies that the planet will now be directly opposite the sun in the sky, and the nearest to Earth.

The United Arab Emirates has postponed the launch of its mission to Mars due to weather conditions at the launch site in Japan.

The UAE government communications office said that a new launch date in July will be announced soon.

The UAE's Hope Probe, the first interplanetary mission by an Arab country, was due to launch from Japan’s Tanegashima Space Center at 12:51am UAE time on Wednesday&nbsp;for a seven-month journey to the red planet.

Astronomers may have just discovered the source of all life in the universe!&nbsp;A new study published on Monday in the journal Nature Astronomy claims that the source of all life is white dwarfs.

For clarity - all stars have an expiry date. When they die, they go out with a large explosion which is called a “supernova”. Stars usually collapse due to the weight of gravity when they run out of fuel, which produces a strong explosion. Additionally, some stars simply morph into a black hole. There are the two ways for stars to go out.

What are white dwarfs?&nbsp;

Most stars, after completing their life cycle simply become white dwarfs, which refers to the core of what once used to be a star. And now, astronomers claim that the core material is the key ingredient in all living forms.

This core contains carbon atoms, which are the key components of every living form.&nbsp;90 per cent of all stars in the universe turn into white dwarfs after finishing their life-cycle.

What's in the core?

The dwarfs have a very high temperature, running as high as 99,000 degree Celsius. Over billions of years, the stars cool down and become dimmer, until only the core remains. The other remains that are shedded off by these bodies contain carbon, which is the fourth-most&nbsp;found chemical in the universe. No life can function without carbon!&nbsp;All of the carbon in the universe is released by stars.

In the study mentioned above, scientists observed stars in the Milky Way, and analysed the data of a star before they became dwarfs and in the aftermath. The bigger the star, the bigger its dwarf, ie, the core! However, scientists realised the mass of the core was much bigger than previously thought.

Based on the study, the astronomers ascertained that stars bigger than 2 solar masses contributed in the universal dissemination of carbon, while stars smaller than 1.5 solar masses did not.

Their study points to a basic and imperative conclusion, that carbon has been trapped in the universe for more than 4.6 billion years, when our Solar System was formed.

'We all come from star dust' is no longer just a saying, and scientists agree!

A planet has been spotted orbiting a distant star at breakneck speed, with astronomers concluding it may be the surviving core of a planet once perhaps larger than Jupiter that was stripped of its gaseous atmosphere.

TOI-849b, which is 39 times as massive as earth, is the largest rocky planet ever discovered and&nbsp;travels 10 times more quickly than Earth, completing an orbit every 18 hours.

According to researchers, this discovery&nbsp;offers a unique opportunity to better understand the interiors of gas giants like Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system.

“This planet could have been a gas giant like Jupiter, which then lost its outer envelope through some violent evolution. This could be because it collided with another planet towards the end of its formation, or later ventured too close to its host star and was stripped of its atmosphere,” said astronomer David Armstrong of the University of Warwick in England, lead author of the research published in the journal Nature.

“An alternative is that the planet got stuck while forming, building up a core but failing to collect the gas we would normally expect,” he said.

The team of astronomers observed that it's located around a star much like our own, approximately 730 light-years away. TOI-849b's diameter of 43,500 km is a bit less than Neptune, the smallest of our solar system’s four gas planets.&nbsp;

The team further said that the planet is much more massive than gas giant planetary cores and this might imply a new planet formation or evolution pathway. Gas planets are composed of a solid core surrounded by a vast atmosphere mostly of hydrogen and helium.

A giant star which was under the observation of astronomers for over ten years has suddenly vanished. The star in question was located in a dwarf galaxy 75 million light-years away, and was one of the largest stars in the known universe.

The astronomers were unable to understand why this happened. But there are two possible scenarios. One, it had a huge outburst. Or it simply dissipated into a black hole, depriving of any light, and hence visibility.

No supernova, no answers

Usually when stars disappear, a huge supernova is witnessed before. The star in question was under the radar of astronomers since 2001. Located in the Kinman Dwarf Galaxy in a constellation called Aquarius, it was in what’s called the “late stage” of evolution, implying it was going to burst soon.

The star was located in a very far off galaxy, making its detection and observation very difficult. The astronomers observed it based on its signature, which was picked up and then analysed, instead of a direct observation. A highly unstable blue star, researchers picked up its signature between 2001-2011.

Classified as a “blue variable”, one of the very unstable stars which exhibit fluctuations in brightness and thermal radiation. However, this quality makes it easy to detect such stars, but also highly unpredictable.

The study on the star will soon be published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. When the researchers attempted to locate the star in a bid to study the life cycle of a star, they were simply unable to find it, and there were no traces of its extinction either. It was quite simply - gone!

"We were surprised to find out that the star had disappeared!” Andrew Allan, the lead author of the story, and a PhD student at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland recently said in a statement.

It is typical of stars to go out with a bang, or what is known as a supernova. To be succinct - when a star runs out of fuel, it is simply killed by its own gravity. Whatever remains of that star bursts off and shatters into the universe.

Following this logic, the star in question should have left debris, or any signs of explosion. In fact, the explosion itself would have been massive enough to make it easily detectable. But none of this happened.

The European Union will plough more money into rocket launches, satellite communication and space exploration to preserve its often unsung successes in space and keep up with the US and Chinese ambitions, its space chief said on Sunday.

Over the past decades, Europe has sought to build independent access to space from U.S. and Russian pioneers to help its industry, with successes such as Ariane rockets or GPS-rival satnav Galileo.

But the recent emergence of US competitor SpaceX and its reusable rockets as well as China’s rapid advances, including the first-ever landing on the far side of the Moon last year, is giving new urgency to Europe’s ambitions.

“Space is one of Europe’s strong points, and we’re giving ourselves the means to speed up,” European Commissioner Thierry Breton, whose brief includes the space sector, told Reuters in an interview.

Breton, the former French head of IT company Atos, said that for the first time, the EU budget will be used to support new technology to launch rockets, including reusable ones.

The EU will for the first time sign a 1 billion euro agreement with Arianespace with guaranteed orders to give it more visibility, in exchange for more innovation.

“SpaceX has redefined the standards for launchers, so Ariane 6 is a necessary step, but not the ultimate aim: we must start thinking now about Ariane 7,” Breton said.

Breton, who hopes the European Commission will provide 16 billion euros for space in its next budget, said he would propose a 1 billion euro European Space Fund to boost startups. He also wants to launch a competition to give free access to satellites and launchers to startups, to spur innovation.

For the Galileo satnav system, Breton said he would bring forward to the end of 2024 instead of 2027 the rollout of a new generation of satellites, “the most modern in the world”, that can interact with each other and provide a more precise signal.

He wants to launch a new satellite system that can give high-speed Internet access to all Europeans, and begin work on a Space Traffic Management system to avoid collisions, made more likely with the rapid increase in the number of satellites.

Pluto, a dwarf planet which was formerly known as the ninth planet in our solar system may have a subsurface ocean owing to its initial warm temperatures, researches posited on Monday.

NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft took images of the dwarf planet’s surface in 2015, which led researchers to believe that the planet had a “hot start” 4.5 billion years ago, when Earth, along with our whole solar system was created.

"When Pluto was forming, new material would have been coming in and impacting its surface. Each impact is like an explosion that would warm the nearby area," said Carver Bierson, University of California Santa Cruz planetary scientist and the lead author of the research published in the journal Nature Geoscience.

"If Pluto formed slowly, the surface would cool between each impact and generally stay very cold. If Pluto formed quickly, you have impact on top of impact and the surface doesn't have time to cool. We calculate that if Pluto formed in less than 30,000 years, the heat from these impacts could have been sufficient to lead to an early ocean," Bierson added.

Pluto is situated in the region called the “Kuiper Belt”, and orbits the sun 40 times farther away than the Earth.

Additionally, the planet may have an icy outer shell spanning hundreds of kilometres. Scientists believe this layer protects an ocean of water which may be mixed with salts and ammonia. Pluto may also have a solid rocky core below.

If this is true, the cracks on Pluto’s surface would finally make sense. Water is bound to expand as it freezes, and this implies that Pluto’s oceans froze over time.

Water, an important ingredient of sustaining life, may point to Pluto’s ability to be able to host living organisms.

"Water could have been interacting chemically with the rocky core beneath the ocean, giving you more chemical ingredients to work with," Bierson added. "Are those the right ingredients for life? We don't know. We need to learn more about how life forms, or how life could form, to find these answers."

SpaceX is considered one of the most ambitious companies of modern-day! The company have gone even further than anybody’s expectations.

An advertisement for job hiring for the company published on Tuesday revealed how the company is planning to develop floating spaceports to be used as launch sites for SpaceX’s “Super Heavy” launch vehicles.

Tech Crunch first reported how these rockets will be used to move large payloads to Moon, and probably to Mars. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk pointed that these would also be used for travelling on Earth.

The upcoming Super Heavy rocket boosters, intended to be worked with its Starship spacecraft, will allow hypersonic travel on Earth, which would cut travelling time tremendously. Take this - flights that took over a day will now take only a couple of hours.

The basic goal of SpaceX, which was to put humans on Mars and the Moon, are primarily why such heavy machines are being developed. No official work seems to have begun yet.

Musk has reiterated his plans to “make humans an interstellar species”, with the idea to colonise multiple destinations, with Mars and Moon first on the list.

If the plan materialises, not just space but travelling on the planet might become a lot easier! The rationale is to enable travel at the edge of Earth’s atmosphere, which will cut down both on the duration and the fuel cost for the flight. If that happens, one may be able to travel from New York City to Paris in under an hour.

The home to our solar system and many more celestial objects is now flinging stars away from itself. Researchers recently found that the Milky Way galaxy is pushing stars farther away from itself.

The Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society recently released simulations depicting how this was happening. Explosions from dying stars are sending stars across the galaxy.

Flung from the centre of the Milky Way, such events demonstrate how the galaxy is continuously evolving and expanding.

"The FIRE-2 simulations allow us to generate movies that make it seem as though you're observing a real galaxy," said Sijie Yu, lead author of the study in a press release.

Uranus wasn’t always tilted! A study claims that the planet was struck by an earth-size rock which then titled it and may also be responsible for birthing the planet’s moons.

Most planets in our solar system reflect the poles of the sun, the centre of our solar system. However, Uranus has always stood out.&nbsp;

The planet’s axis is titled by almost 98 degrees, which might not mean much, but stands out when compared to other planets.

For instance, our very own Earth is titled by over 23 degrees while Jupiter is tilted by 3 degrees.

In essence, Uranus is the only planet that spins on its side.

A Japanese study has now claimed that the collision with another giant rock may not just have titled the planet, but also birthed its 27 known moons.

Out of these, eighteen moons circle around the planet’s equator, as is customary.&nbsp;

However, Yuya Ishizawa at Kyoto University in Japan claims that these are the regular moons. For clarity - the irregular moons are those that were captured by the planet, hence they do not orbit around the planet’s equator, but circle the planet in a haphazard manner!

The Uranus, shortly after being born, was struck by a rock roughly the size of Earth, which tilted it.

The debris from the impact would then get stuck around the planet, which would then assume the characteristics of the planet’s natural moons and then stick around, or the researchers claim “captured”.

"Material from the two bodies is ejected in a debris disk, and finally satellites are formed from the debris disk," Ishizawa said in a conversation with Space.com. "It is possible to explain the axial tilt and the formation of the regular satellites of Uranus simultaneously", the researcher added.&nbsp;

Also read: Massive white dwarf star resembling 'space snowman' spotted by scientists For instance, our very own Earth is titled by over 23 degrees while Jupiter is tilted by 3 degrees. In essence, Uranus is the only planet that spins on its side. A Japanese study has now claimed that the collision with another giant rock may not just have titled the planet, but also birthed its 27 known moons. Out of these, eighteen moons circle around the planet’s equator, as is customary. However, Yuya Ishizawa at Kyoto University in Japan claims that these are the regular moons. For clarity - the irregular moons are those that were captured by the planet, hence they do not orbit around the planet’s equator, but circle the planet in a haphazard manner! Also read: Doughnut in space: NASA unveils most distant object ever visited The Uranus, shortly after being born, was struck by a rock roughly the size of Earth, which tilted it. The debris from the impact would then get stuck around the planet, which would then assume the characteristics of the planet’s natural moons and then stick around, or the researchers claim “captured”. "Material from the two bodies is ejected in a debris disk, and finally satellites are formed from the debris disk," Ishizawa said in a conversation with Space.com. "It is possible to explain the axial tilt and the formation of the regular satellites of Uranus simultaneously", the researcher added.

Uranus wasn't always tilted: Find out what actually happened!

As the coronavirus pandemic grips the world, several countries are under a lockdown and people have been confined to their homes.

More than 3 billion of the world's population has been completely cut-off from each other.

Until the world collectively flattens the coronavirus curve, as South Korea was able to, things are expected to stay the same.

As isolation takes a toll on people, we bring to you narratives of&nbsp;those who have had to live in isolation for a long time: astronauts!

"Do things that scare you!"

An astronaut has now made a video giving people tips on how to deal with enforced social isolation.

“Do engage in things which scare you, dig into them and become an expert”.

A retired astronaut, Chris Hadfield, 60, who authored the book “An astronaut’s guide to life on earth” had this to say:&nbsp;

<iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/4uL5sqe5Uk8" width="560"></iframe>

"I'm watching how this pandemic is influencing this group dynamic. And I feel, as one of many people with a public voice, that it's important, then to try and recognise that and help people recognise that also and try to give people some tools to deal with it", he said.

He further added, "to be isolated for a long time can be sort of frightening. Because you don't know what to expect. And whenever I’m frightened I try and really dig into the actual risks, the actual dangers. Become an expert on the thing that is scaring me. And that helps me deal with my natural fear".

Hadfield further said this is the time for one to master new skills, like playing the guitar, or learning a new language.

However, he believes that the best thing one can do right now is taking care of themselves and their families.

"Once you understand the risk, your mission, your sense of purpose, and your obligations, then take action. Start doing things. They don't have to be the things that you always did before. Take care of family, start a new project, learn to play guitar, study another language, read a book, write, create", he said on his YouTube channel.

&nbsp;"So take care of yourself, take care of your family, take care of your friends, take care of your spaceship", he asserted.

"Have a routine!"

Nick Hague, an astronaut with NASA has spent several months on board the International Space Station. He drew parallels between being locked down and being on the space station.&nbsp;

His mantra is simple - have a routine!

“It's simple stuff. It's to have a routine, you know, put a schedule together and stick to the schedule, because then everybody inside the house knows what to expect throughout the day. And just having some control and some certainty over how your day is going to play out is a huge psychological boost", he said.

Hague also reiterated the importance of creating one's own personal space.

<iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Z_nhu-086fw" width="560"></iframe>

"You know, and then the other part is at the end of the day or whenever we need it just trying to to have a place that is your own that you can sneak away to and you can have a little personal time. You know, the space station is as big as a six person home. And we have our own little crew quarters up there, which is about the size of a closet. But that's all I needed to be able to close the door and just kind of escape all the hustle and bustle and everything else that was going on and just focus on kind of trying to collect myself and my thoughts and being able to escape. And so having that personal space, that personal time is super important, too”, he said.

But at the same time Hague emphasises the need to talk, to express and to communicate and try and understand one's family members.

Here’s what Hague had to say on how not to annoy people who are living with you during a lockdown.

"Yeah, you know, and I'd argue that you know, the people that are closest to us, the family, the loved ones, we know exactly how to annoy them. You know what their buttons are. And so it's really just trying to understand, you know, everybody is going through this. And so the key is communication. Express how you're feeling and listen to others, express how they're feeling and just being able to be open and talk about what everybody's going through. We'll let you identify the support that you need and the support that you need to give. And that's just going to make it so much easier. So talk. Don't bottle things up", he said.

Surviving lockdown 101: Masters of isolation - astronauts tell you what to do!

Scientists have observed a mysterious <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/intelligent-life-canadian-astronomers-detect-mysterious-radio-waves-from-space-189353">space signal</a> deep from space which has been repeating in a 16-day cycle.

The findings are included in the pre-print of a paper on arXiv.

Researchers from the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME) under the Fast Radio Burst Project have noticed a pattern in a series of bursts coming from a single source half a billion light-years from Earth.

This pattern was detected between September 16, 2018 and October 30, 2019 in fast radio bursts (FRBs) which are millisecond-long bursts of radio waves in space.&nbsp;

In the traced pattern, it used to send radio wave bursts for a period of four days, stopped for a period of 12 days, then this entire process was repeated.&nbsp;

Usually, individual radio bursts emit once and don't repeat but repeating <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/intelligent-life-canadian-astronomers-detect-mysterious-radio-waves-from-space-189353">fast radio burst</a>s are known to send out short, energetic radio waves multiple times. And usually when they repeat, it's sporadic or in a cluster, according to previous observations.

Researchers are tracing the origin of these mysterious bursts but so far, they have traced myriad sources every burst.

The first repeating fast radio burst traced, <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/intelligent-life-canadian-astronomers-detect-mysterious-radio-waves-from-space-189353">FRB </a>121102, linked back to a small dwarf galaxy containing stars and metals.

FRB 180916 was traced to one of the spiral arms of a Milky Way-esque galaxy. It was also within a star-forming region of the arm, the researchers said.

According to the researchers, the possible cause for such bursts to emit can be orbital motion of a star or an object that acts as a companion in the outskirts of the galaxy.&nbsp;

Last year, the CHIME/FRB collaboration detected the sources of eight new repeating FRBs and its signal. This recurring signal was traced to a massive spiral galaxy approximately 500 million light years away.

United States astronaut Christina Koch, is all set to return to Earth today after a record stay at the International Space Station.

The leader of the first all-female spacewalk in 2019, Koch's mission could provide rich insight into deep-space travel.

Koch spent 328 days in the orbiting laboratory. The 41-year-old boarded a Russian Soyuz capsule and which was set to depart at 0230 GMT today.

If the plan works out well, the capsule will ''parachute to a safe landing on the desert steppe of Dzhezkazgan, Kazakhstan'', Reuters reported. The touchdown is expected at 0912 GMT today with the aircraft carrying Koch, European astronaut Luca Parmitano and Russian cosmonaut Alexander Skvortsov.&nbsp;

The record for the longest continuous stay in space by a woman was previously held by NASA's Peggy Whitson.

In October 2019, Koch achieved a gender milestone during a spacewalk, which was undertaken with a fellow NASA astronaut Jessica Meir. This was the first time two women stepped out of the space station at the same time.

In March 2019, NASA attempted an all-female spacewalk which was later called off because one of the astronauts' medium-sized spacesuits was wrongly configured. This inspired gender-heavy rhetoric within the space community.

This year, astronauts on the space station are set to celebrate the 20th anniversary in low-Earth orbit. The Station has held 227 maintenance spacewalks, with almost two dozen female astronauts participating in the process. Koch and Meir conducted two more spacewalks together in January.

According to NASA, Koch's mission would provide insight into the weightlessness of gravity. Additionally, it could also help the space organisation understand how space radiation affects the female body on long-duration spaceflights.

As NASA plans to build a permanent space station on the moon's surface within the next decade, the data from Koch's mission could prove to be immensely useful.

Scott Kelly, a US astronaut spent 340 days in orbit starting 2015. From Kelly's time in space, NASA learned that spaceflights cause the thickening of the carotid artery and retina, changes in gene expression and slight cognitive impairments for men.

Koch's mission began in March last year and was extended up to April, stretching the duration from six months to almost a year.

Beyond Earth: Designers give a peek into what life could look like on Mars

The newly founded United States Space Force recently unveiled its uniform. The colour of choice has stirred a debacle on social media, BBC reported.

The most common reaction to the uniform went along the lines of ''camo in space?''

The Force responded to the critique and said that it was "utilising current Army/Air Force uniforms" and "saving costs of designing/producing a new one".

"Members will look like the joint counterparts they'll be working with, on the ground," the force added.

However, this affirmation did little to calm down the Twitterati.

However, the title of the force is misleading, for it is not envisaged to put troops into orbit. Instead, the force is expected to protect United States assets like satellites which facilitate communication and surveillance.

The force's first secretary Barbara Barrett had earlier claimed that the newly orchestrated Space Force would have 16,000 air force and civilian personnel.&nbsp;

Donald Trump's administration has allotted $40 million to maintain and fund the force in its pilot year.

A user on Twitter went as far as asking, "Have they never seen space before?" Camouflage is usually chosen by ground military operations to help them blend into their surroundings without being accosted by their enemies, another user implied. Really disappointed with the green. Surely a pattern like this would have given more camouflage in space. https://t.co/A1eAJkSk1e pic.twitter.com/7lUGAyRqTD — Richard Chambers (@newschambers) January 18, 2020 × The Force responded to the critique and said that it was "utilising current Army/Air Force uniforms" and "saving costs of designing/producing a new one". "Members will look like the joint counterparts they'll be working with, on the ground," the force added. However, this affirmation did little to calm down the Twitterati. US Space Force unveils camouflage uniform, gets trolled on Twitter

Elon Musk's SpaceX is set to destroy one of its own rockets today in a bid to test an emergency abort system on an unmanned capsule. This test will the company's last milestone before carrying NASA astronauts from US soil.&nbsp;

As Reuters reported, two minutes after the rocket takes off from a launchpad in Florida, the ''Crew Dragon'' capsule will eject itself from the rocket mid-air, which would replicate an emergency abort scenario. In essence, this is SpaceX's proof of their ability to return astronauts back to earth in case of emergencies.&nbsp;

"I will tell you tomorrow will be an exciting day," Kathy Lueders, NASA's commercial crew programme manager, said on Friday.

SpaceX has been trying to fly humans for a long time. If all goes well, they may be able to fly humans to the International Space Station soon. According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), this could happen as soon as mid-2020.&nbsp;

After human spaceflight programmes faced setbacks, the US decided to partner with private companies like SpaceX to accelerate the pace of development.&nbsp;

Following this, NASA awarded Boeing and SpaceX $4.2 billion and $2.5 billion in 2014 respectively. NASA expects them to make capsules capable of carrying humans. NASA's space shuttle programme ended in 2011, after which, if achieved, this will usher in the first take-off with humans since then. To access the space station, NASA now relies on Russia.

The ''mock failure'' will involve considerable steps: The Falcon 9 rocket's boosters will shut down roughly 19 km above the ocean. This will trigger Crew Dragon's so-called SuperDraco thrusters to jet itself away at supersonic speeds of up to 2,400 kph.

As it nears water, the capsule would deploy three parachutes for a slow descent. In fact, two human-shaped test dummies laden in motion censors will be on-board. The data will then be used to understand the impact of G-force imposed during the abortion of the mission.

The test was originally scheduled for mid-2019 but faced delays&nbsp;after one of the capsules exploded in April before launch. After this, an investigation was launched and the organisation found an explosive reaction between a titanium valve and the capsule's rocket fuel.

SpaceX's Crew Mission Management director Benji Reed had said, "At some point, we expect that the Falcon will start to break up."

"Our Falcon 9 recovery forces will be standing by ready to go and recover as much of the Falcon as we can as safely as possible," Reed said.&nbsp;
