The singer, who has sold more than 80 million records worldwide with hits such as "Hips Don`t Lie", earlier this week rejected a settlement offer from the prosecutor`s office to close the case.

She is accused of failing to pay taxes between 2012 and 2014, a period in which Shakira says she did not live in Spain.

The prosecutor`s document, seen by Reuters, asserts that Shakira was ordinarily resident in Spain between 2012 and 2014 and in May 2012 bought a house in Barcelona which became a family home for herself, her partner and their son born in Spain in 2013.

It asked for an eight-year prison sentence and a fine of more than 23 million euros ($23.5 million) should she be found guilty. No date for a trial has been set yet.

Asked to comment, Shakira`s representatives referred to a previous statement sent out on Wednesday saying she "is fully confident of her innocence" and that she considers the case "a total violation of her rights".

The terms of the earlier settlement offer have not been disclosed.

The 45-year-old singer - dubbed the Queen of Latin Pop - said she initially paid the 17.2 million euros that the Spanish tax office said she owed and claims she has no outstanding debt with the tax authorities.

Impact Challenges are a way for Google to give money and support to non-profits with ideas for working toward solving problems. Past Impact Challenges have covered topics such as artificial intelligence and climate change.

 
YouTuber, actor and blogger Prajakta Koli &nbsp;a.k.a. MostlySane who has been an active advocate for women empowerment since many years now will be representing India in this ambitious global project. She will be joined by 28 other women leaders from diverse sectors and geographies such as artist Shakira, first US National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman, athlete Naomi Osaka, Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Rigoberta Menchú Tum as one of the expert panelists who will screen the applicants and help Google.org make the most informed funding decision. 
Each selected organization will receive between $300,000 and $2 million in funding as well as non-monetary support like mentorship from Google. The selected organizations will be announced in late 2021.

Multi-faceted sensation Jennifer Lopez on Thursday announced she and pop star Shakira would headline the National Football League's Super Bowl halftime show in Miami in February.

The 50-year-old Lopez -- who is currently basking in the success of her much-lauded performance in the recently released film 'Hustlers'&nbsp;-- dropped the news in a tweeted photo of her and Shakira, sporting matching metallic gold tube tops and black leather pants, saying with emojis that they were going to "set the world on fire."

"It doesn't get any bigger than this! So excited about getting on that #SuperBowlLIV" stage tweeted Shakira. The NFL confirmed the news on Twitter.

The Latina superstars will be part of the NFL's bid to rebuild its embattled halftime show -- one of pop music's most visible gigs -- which last year struggled to secure performers over the treatment of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

The hearing of the performer, one of the biggest stars from Latin America who lives in Barcelona with footballer Gerard Pique and their two young sons, lasted an hour and 20 minutes, a court spokeswoman said. 
 
She only responded to her lawyer, she added. 
 
Prosecutors accuse her and one of her advisers of fraud after she allegedly failed to pay taxes in Spain despite being a resident between 2011 and 2014. 
The case only covers the period from 2012 to 2014, however, as the timeframe to prosecute alleged tax offences in 2011 has expired. 
 
Prosecutors say that while she moved to Spain in 2011 when her relationship with Pique was made public, she maintained her official tax residency in the Bahamas until 2015 when she started paying taxes in Spain. 
 
Neither Shakira nor her lawyer spoke to the press, but her press team released a statement in which they said the artist was innocent.&nbsp;They stressed that she had paid everything claimed by tax authorities.&nbsp; 
 
"There is currently no debt," read the statement.

'Fulfilled' tax duties&nbsp; 
 
Her defence team had previously argued that until 2014 she earned most of her money in international tours and did not live more than six months a year in Spain -- and was therefore not a resident under tax law. 
 
The statement said "Shakira has always fulfilled her tax duties in all those countries in which she has worked, including in the period between 2011 and 2014." 
 
It added that she followed "the opinions and precise recommendations of her advisers, who are top-level professionals from one of the biggest companies in the world."

Colombian superstar Shakira will be questioned in court in Spain over alleged tax evasion on Thursday, six days earlier than initially scheduled, a court said.

The hearing, which had been set for June 12, will now get underway on Thursday at 10am (0800 GMT) at a court in Esplugues de Llobregat near Barcelona where the singer lives with her partner, FC Barcelona footballer Gerard Pique, the high court of Catalonia said in a statement Monday.

The 42-year-old is suspected of not paying taxes in Spain despite being a resident between 2011 and 2014, according to prosecutors.

The case only covers the period from 2012 to 2014, however, as the timeframe to prosecute alleged tax offences in 2011 has expired.

In a relationship since 2011 with Pique, with whom she has two sons, Shakira transferred her official residency to Spain in 2015.

Until then, it was in the Bahamas.

But a spokesman for prosecutors in Barcelona told AFP last year that this didn't "match reality" with her children and partner were in Barcelona.

Shakira's representatives insist that until 2014 she earned most of her money in international tours and didn't live more than six months a year in Spain -- a prerequisite to be an official tax-paying resident in the country.

With her mix of Latin and Arabic rhythms and rock influences, Shakira is one of the biggest stars from Latin America, scoring major global hits with songs such as "Hips Don't Lie" and "Whenever, Wherever."

The suspects allegedly took advantage of the stormy weather to enter the house undetected while the parents of the Spain international soccer player, who were house-sitting the property in Esplugues de Llobregat, a well-heeled, leafy neighborhood that is home to several soccer players, were asleep, sources close to the investigation told EFE.

The suspected thieves caused no personal damages and the Catalan regional police were considering it a case of non-violent robbery, the sources added.
