A tournament that will see 16 teams participating across 41 matches can transform the landscape for women's cricket across the globe, as per Sachin. He also feels this inaugural edition of the Women's T20 World Cup will act as a huge learning curve for all the youngsters playing here.

"The Under-19 event is a first-time event and one that holds a lot of promise. I think this can transform the landscape, since a global platform will ensure great learning and experience to young women cricketers," Sachin wrote.&nbsp;

A World Cup winner himself, Sachin further wrote the reach of this event will help unearth many more talents that will have a direct bearing on the quality of the game.

"Though women's cricket has made huge strides, there are areas still to be tapped. What is required right now is a more robust grassroots system across the world. The larger we spread the base, the more talent we will unearth and that will have a direct bearing on the quality of the game," he added.

While concluding he said&nbsp;other than displaying the talent of young girls to the larger audience, this event will ensure investment in junior cricket in various countries as well.

"I feel the inaugural tournament will ensure that happens. Going beyond showcasing the best junior talent of the world, it will ensure more investment in junior cricket in different countries, resulting in a consistent feeder line for future U19 World Cups as well as senior cricket."

Sachin Tendulkar uplifts Indian women's team morale ahead of maiden U-19 T20 World Cup

Shafali Varma has been picked as the captain to lead a 15-member Indian contingent at the maiden Under-19 T20 World Cup in South Africa next year.&nbsp;

Varma, who has already played for the national senior side in all three formats will join the small list of players to have played the senior World Cup before playing the age-division World Cup.

Alongside Varma, Richa Ghosh will also be joining the U19 squad having made her senior debut against Australia in 2020.&nbsp; Ghosh is 19 years old but she made the list for being born after the&nbsp;cut-off date of birth of August 31, 2003.

The BCCI in a press release announced the squad for the World Cup as well as the South Africa series. The World Cup will commence on January 14 next year and will feature 16 teams.&nbsp;

“The All-India Women’s Selection Committee has picked India U19 Women’s squad for the upcoming bilateral away T20 series against South Africa U19 and the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup to follow," read the release.&nbsp;

Being the favourites, India stormed past Thailand by 74 runs to book a place in the final.&nbsp;After entering the semi-final as the table-toppers in the group stage, with five wins and a solitary loss, India were asked to bat first. Shafali Verma's 28-ball 42 and vital contributions from Jemimah Rodrigues (27), Harmanpreet's 36 (30) and Pooja Vastrakar's 13-ball 17 propelled the Women in Blue to a moderate 148-6, at Sylhet.&nbsp;

It was a chaseable score but the inexperienced Thailand batters only managed a paltry 74 for 9 in their full quota of overs. Thailand were never in the run-chase with skipper Naruemol Chaiwai and Nattaya Boochatham being the highest run-getters, scoring 21 apiece.&nbsp; From India's perspective, the likes of Deepti Sharma (3 for 7) and Rajeshwari Gayakwad (2 for 10) applied pressure from the word go by chipping in with key wickets and giving nothing away easily.&nbsp;

After an indifferent batting show in the defeat against Pakistan, the 'Women In Blue' put up a much-improved performance scoring 159 for 5, largely due to a 96-run opening stand between Shafali and stand-in skipper Smriti Mandhana (47 off 38 balls).

Credit should also go to Jemimah Rodrigues, whose 35 not out off just 24 balls helped the Indian team score nearly 160. Bangladesh managed 100 for 7 at the end of 20 overs and never looked like being in the hunt for a victory.

With 8 points from five games, India are on top of the seven-team table with a match left in the round-robin stage. 
Having never chased a total beyond 142 in their entire T20I history, Bangladesh did try their bit but could never force the momentum against a solid Indian bowling attack which kept things tight.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has set aside a window in March 2023 for the first-ever edition of women's Indian Premier League (IPL) and the process to get the show on the road is underway, as per board president Sourav Ganguly. As per ESPNCricinfo, the board has made changes to its women's domestic cricket calendar to make way for women's IPL.

The women's season that generally goes on from November to April has been advanced by a month, with the season set to begin on October 11 with T20 competition and end in February 2023 with an inter-zonal ODI competition.

Since 2018, BCCI has been organising the Women's T20 Challenge. What started as a one-off exhibition match between two teams in the first season is now a three-team competition. Many players from outside India have also joined the competition. But despite this, the clamour to have a much bigger competition just like men's IPL is growing among players and fans for a while.

Earlier in February this year, Ganguly had stated that the women's IPL would be held next year. "We are at the level of formulation to have a full-fledged WIPL. It is certainly going to happen. I strongly believe that next year i.e. 2023 will be a very good time to start a full-fledged women's IPL which will be as big and grand a success as men's IPL. 
 
Owners of IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals and Barbados Royals, The Knight Riders Group have expressed their interest in getting involved in the tournament and owning a women's IPL team.

The inaugural edition of the women's Caribbean Premier League (CPL), which is scheduled to happen alongside the men's tournament later this year will feature three teams, including Trinbago Knight Riders owned by Knight Riders Group. BCCI is expected to hold a discussion on matters related to women's IPL at its annual general meeting in September this year. Much of the planning around the tournament will be around sale of its media rights.

Due to India's improving and great performances at major ICC events over the recent years, the enthusiasm for women's cricket in India is at a never-seen-before high. The latest of these performances was the Women in Blue clinching a silver medal in the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. Moreover, senior Indian players like Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and former Indian skipper Mithali Raj have been supportive of the idea of women's IPL.

Raj in fact expressed a desire to come out of retirement to participate in the tournament. "I am keeping that option open. I have not yet decided. There are a few more months to go before the Women's IPL happens. It would be lovely to be part of the first edition of the Women's IPL," she had said while speaking on ICC's 100% Cricket podcast earlier in July.

It was an outrageous effort from Harmenpreet which left the fans in awe on social media. The Supernovas skipper has been enjoying a great time in the Women's T20 Challenge and was superb on the field against Velocity on Tuesday after leading her team to their first win of the tournament against the Trailblazers on Monday.

After winning their opening game against the Trailblazers on Monday, Supernovas were looking to continue their winning run against Velocity. However, they failed to defend the total of 150 runs to suffer a seven-wicket defeat at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Nonetheless, Harmanpreet stole the show with her stunning catch.

The BCCI on Friday announced&nbsp;the Indian women's squad for the impending visit through England which contains a one-off Test match, 3 ODIs, and as many T20Is. Team India is set to play a single Test against the hosts beginning on 16 June. This will be trailed by three ODIs that will be played on 27 June, 30 June, and 03 July.

For the Test and ODIs, the selectors declared an 18-member squad drove by Mithali Raj. The selectors have offered freedoms to some new faces in the longest format of the game. Batting sensation Shafali Verma and prepared pacer Shikha Pandey have made it to every one of the three formats after their South Africa home series scorns.

India opener Shafali Verma is back at the top of the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings after a fine show in the first two matches of the ongoing three-match series against South Africa in Lucknow.

The 17-year-old big-hitter, who had grabbed the top position for the first time after helping her side reach the knockout phase of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup last year in Australia, has leapfrogged Australia’s Beth Mooney with scores of 23 and 47.

South Africa opener Lizelle Lee is another one to gain in the T20I rankings even though the big-hitting opener lost her top spot in the ODI rankings within a week of replacing England’s Tammy Beaumont. Lee has gained three slots to reach 11th position among T20I batters after a match-winning 70 helped South Africa to a winning 2-0 lead.

Laura Wolvaardt has risen five places to 24th after guiding her team to victory with an unbeaten 53 in the second match while captain Sune Luus (up five places to 38th) and Nadine de Klerk (up three places to 74th) are the other South Africans to advance in the batting list.

For India, Deepti Sharma has moved up four places to 40th and teenager Richa Ghosh has rocketed 59 places to 85th among batters while young all-rounder Harleen Deol has progressed in both lists, up 262 places to 99th among batters and up 76 places to 146th among bowlers. Left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad has advanced from 34th to 25th.

There have also been some notable changes in the ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings apart from Lee’s second short tenure at number one after her three days at the top in June 2018.

In the update to the longer format, which considered performances in the last match of the preceding ODI series between the two sides, Marizanne Kapp has moved from fourth to second among bowlers and overtaken West Indies’ Stafanie Taylor to second in the list of all-rounders led by Elysse Perry of Australia.

She has gained 58 slots to reach 70th among batters and five places to 85th among bowlers. Tumi Sukhukhune has advanced eight places and is 37th.

For India, captain Mithali Raj, a formerly top-ranked batter, has moved up one place to eighth after an unbeaten 79 while Priya Punia has moved up to five places to 53rd. Gayakwad is up eight places to 38th among bowlers.
