German Chancellor 'very worried' German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed concerns over the attack, saying that he was "very worried" for the severely injured. He further called it a "terrible attack". “There is no more peaceful, more joyous place in Germany than Christmas markets when people come together ahead of the Christmas festival and spend some time together, drink mulled wine, have a sausage together to relax together,” Scholz told reporters in Magdeburg on Saturday. “What for a terrible act is that to injure and to kill so many people with such brutality," he said, adding, “We have meanwhile found out that over 200 people were injured. Five have died until now.” Scholz further stressed that nearly 40 are "severely injured" and that "we are worried for them". (With inputs from agencies)

Germany: Man Who Rammed Car Into Crowd In Germany Is A Doctor Wanted In Saudi Arabia

The man who drove his car into a crowd in Germany is revealed to be a doctor, reportedly wanted by authorities in Saudi Arabia. The incident has raised international concerns, with investigations underway to determine his motivations and connections to the situation in both Germany and Saudi Arabia.

On Friday (Dec 20), a man drove a car into the Christmas market in Germany's eastern city of Magdeburg, killing five people and injuring at least 200. German Police have arrested a Saudi national, a 50-year-old doctor named Taleb Abdul Jawed living in Germany since 2006.&nbsp;

After the arrest on Saturday (Dec 21), several claims about the incident have been made on social media. In one such claim, a man shared a post on LinkedIn saying a Saudi girl living in Germany had informed the German Police about his intentions in 2023.&nbsp;

The post by Noor Dahri, Executive Director at Islamic Theology of Counter Terrorism, claimed that the suspect, reportedly an anti-Islamist, had been planning the attack for a long time. The post further&nbsp;claimed that the girl multiple times reported to the police and asked for his arrest, but the police acted in a "bureaucratic manner".&nbsp;

The post even shared multiple screenshots of purported chats between the girl and the police department.

Just a month before the incident, the post claimed, Taleb had taken to social media platform X threatening he would kill 20 Germans. The same girl again went to the police and cited his tweet and reported him but was "ignored", the LinkedIn post said.&nbsp;

<h2>An anti-Islamist</h2>

As per reports, Taleb is a physiotherapist and came to Germany in 2006 as a refugee.&nbsp;

As per his social media accounts, he claimed himself to be an anti-Islamist. His LinkedIn bio says "Germany wants to Islamise Europe".&nbsp;

Saudi Arabia
Kenyan single mothers in Saudi Arabia have been "trapped" in the country after being denied visas and birth certificates for their children in order to leave and return to their homeland.
Guardian spoke to five Kenyan women who explained their misery, saying that they have been unable to register the birth of their children as they were born outside marriage.
They said that they all fled abusive employers who then kept their identity documents.
The women complained that they have been trying to leave the country as their children are unable to get enrolled in schools in Saudi Arabia without the documents. They added that they have also been told that exit visas cannot be processed because they have "stateless" children.
In Saudi Arabia, having sex outside marriage is a crime as per the Islamic laws. However, the human rights groups said that women are disproportionately charged for this since resulting pregnancies are considered evidence.

Moreover, survivors of rape or sex trafficking can be deemed to have confessed to extramarital sex and prosecuted.
Children born outside the marriage in Saudi Arabia are not entitled to birth certificates. Additionally, their undocumented status means that they cannot access basic rights and services, including medical care and education, and are also not allowed to travel outside the Kingdom.
These five women interviewed by Guardian shared that they had pregnancies during relationships with fellow migrant workers.
Hence, all these women became single mothers, meanwhile, some said that they were abandoned by their child's fathers because they feared getting arrested for having extramarital sex.

Fatima, a migrant from Kenya who came to Saudi Arabia to be a domestic worker, said staff at her nearest hospital in the Saudi capital Riyadh threatened to call the police when she rushed there with labour pains, the Guardian reported.
“They said they would send me to jail if I didn’t bring [the necessary] documents. I was so afraid to go to jail with labour pains. I pretended like I was strolling around the hospital. Then, I just walked out of the gate and went back to my house," she said.
Fatima entered her accommodation in Riyadh, and gave birth to a son just five minutes after that. "I cut the umbilical cord and cleaned myself. I cleaned my baby and wrapped him in a blanket. It was scary, but I just had to do it. There was nobody else to help me.”
She added that she ran away from her employer's home because he was sexually assaulting her and was physically abusive. Moreover, the employer also seized her passport.
Moreover, she said that she has been trying to leave Saudi Arabia for the past two years because her son, who has now turned eight, has been unable to go to school.
“The authorities here are not too concerned about the babies and their mothers,” Fatima said.
Earlier in April, Fatima also staged a public protest in the Manfuhah neighbourhood in Riyadh, along with a group of other migrant mothers. However, protests are illegal in Saudi Arabia and punishable by imprisonment.
“We want our kids to go to school. They’re missing a lot in their early childhood education. It’s very important, and our babies are missing that opportunity.”
Meanwhile, migrant rights experts have estimated that the number of cases of stateless children born outside marriage in Gulf countries is in thousands, adding that every child has a right to identity and protection, regardless of how and when they were born.

New Delhi, India
Saudi Arabia is the second country in the Gulf to get hosting rights for a FIFA World Cup. In a jaw-dropping announcement earlier, Saudi was named the host of the 2034 edition, 12 years after Qatar hosted this sporting spectacle for the first time. However, unlike in Qatar, where the government made a U-turn a few days after announcing no liquor for fans during the event, Saudi has cleared its stance, saying no alcohol will be served during, before or after the tournament.
During the 2022 mega event, which Lionel Messi-led Argentina won by beating the defending champions France in the penalty shoot-out, Qatar relaxed its alcohol laws.

Though they barred everyone from consuming liquor during any game inside the stadium or its premises, the government allowed foreign citizens to purchase it from specific stores and drink in waterholes in select hotels in the capital city of Doha.
Per the latest report, Saudi is highly unlikely to relax any laws around it for the showpiece event.
“FIFA sources told the Guardian there were no plans to pressure the Saudi government to relax their laws. FIFA has not publicly addressed the matter, but insiders confirmed that there will be no beer sales at matches,” a Guardian report claimed.
<h2>'Stay home if you cannot respect rules'</h2>
Meanwhile, Saudi banned alcohol, including its sale and consumption since 1952, even for foreign citizens, with the violation inviting fines, jail, public flogging or even deportation. Considering the harsh punishments, European and American fans were seemingly concerned and disappointed when FIFA allotted the 2034 edition to Saudi Arabia.
Their liquor laws are strict enough not to allow even the luxury hotels in the country to sell alcohol.
Last year, Saudi Arabia’s sports minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, in a chat with Sky News, said it would not be possible to lift some of its restrictions, adding ‘the World Cup is for everyone’ and that those who feel uncomfortable about it can avoid travelling.
“If you are against that, and you don’t feel like you’re going to enjoy your time coming, and you can’t respect that rule, then don’t come. It’s as simple as that,” a report in the Indian Express said.
Besides, he said that hundreds of sporting events have taken place in Saudi and all have been dry events, including Saudi GP, where the drivers sprinkle rose water instead of spraying wine.
“We’ve had over 100 global sporting events that have already taken place in Saudi Arabia. No alcohol was served in those tournaments. We had three million sports fans come in and enjoy those tournaments that have come and come again,” he said in a chat with Reuters last year.
