Especially a scene where hundreds of masked men come charging at Ranbir (dressed in a white kurta and dhoti) &nbsp;with first guns and then axes as our man-child protagonist goes gleefully charging at them with an Indian-made bazooka. It's a long scene&nbsp;where guns, violence, and gore have just been thrown in like it was being distributed at some store for free and you think that Vijay has finally done avenging the attack on his father. But it is just the first half and Vanga has more to showcase.&nbsp;<br />

By the second half, everything becomes too much. The gore, the violence, the bloodshed, the toxicity and even Ranbir Kapoor himself. The women in Vanga's world are charmed by men discussing women's anatomy with a straight face (remember <em>Kabir Singh</em>?) In <em>Animal</em>, he does try to show Mandanna's character to have a spine and speak up in between, but everything somehow is forgiven in the name of love. The toxicity, the bloodshed, the beast mode because hey the man is good in bed. Tripti Dimri plays a key role in the film but is also literally treated as a sex object and by the time her character comes on screen, you have given up on the man and the story itself.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There is also a lot of below-the-belt talk and at one point I could not help but wonder why Vanga is so obsessed with the groin area of the human body.</p>

Kapoor is excellent in the film and bound to win a few accolades in the upcoming award season but the film overall is so flawed that one isn't sure whether to laud the artist or not for taking up the role in the first place.</p>

<p>Anil Kapoor too is splendid and restrained as the man who never had time for his son and who now regrets it. Both the actors perform their parts well.&nbsp;<br />

The women, Rashmika Mandanna, Charu&nbsp;Shankar, Saloni Batra, and Tripti Dimri are all great even though they are written poorly because the director only wants to highlight a skewed version of an alpha male.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There is also Bobby Deol playing an equally barbaric man much like Vijay. Deol's character is mute and he delivers to the craziness of Vanga's vision ably but he too has limited screen time.&nbsp;</p>

Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga confirms Animal delay. Here's when the film will release

<p>Indian actor Allu Arjun, who won millions of hearts as Pushpa Raj in the 2021 film <em>Pushpa: The Rise</em>, has signed his 22nd film. The actor is currently busy shooting the second part in the <em>Pushpa </em>franchise, <em>Pushpa: The Rule</em>, which is expected to hit theatres in 2024. For his next project, he is joining hands with <em>Arjun Reddy</em> fame Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Bhushan Kumar of T Series is bringing the two legends together and bankrolling the film.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Reddy Vanga is currently&nbsp;busy&nbsp;shooting <em>Animal </em>with Ranbir Kapoor. The director will begin shooting with Arjun after completing his next film titled <em>Spirit </em>with Prabhas.</p>

<p>A lot is being said about 'Kabir Singh' these days. A movie about a hot-headed medical student who gets addicted to alcohol and drugs after his girlfriend breaks up with him seems to have managed to tug at the heartstrings of those who have gone through a rough break up.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
While many appreciated the film for its portrayal of love and heartbreak, others were not happy with the glorification of toxic masculinity which was seeped in its screenplay.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
In a country like India, where cinema is like religion and can easily influence the minds of people, what does a film like 'Kabir Singh' leave behind? People emulate what they see on screen and when it is Shahid Kapoor hitting his girlfriend, they believe that this is the correct way to express their affection. The film seems to have put obsession, <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/kabir-singh-review-shahid-kapoor-is-outstanding-in-a-film-that-glorifies-toxic-masculinity-229077">misogyny and sexual violence</a> in a package and tied it up with a neat little bow called 'love'.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The plot of the film has already proven to be extremely controversial, but now it is the man behind the camera, director Sandeep Vanga Reddy who has managed to steal the film's spotlight.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
In a <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/being-in-love-means-the-freedom-to-hit-your-partner-says-kabir-singh-director-sandeep-reddy-vanga-233793">recent interview with Anupama Chopra</a>, he was asked about a particular scene from the film in which Shahid Kapoor's character slaps Kiara Advani's Preeti, to which he said, "She slapped him without a reason, at least Kabir had a reason to slap her. If you can't slap, if you can’t touch your woman wherever you want, if you can't kiss, I don’t see the emotion there."&nbsp;<br />
<br />
He went on to justify every action of his character with one simple argument- that Kabir Singh is "flawed" just like anybody else; even when his character gets away with performing surgeries while he was completely smoked up or asks a girl to undress at knife-point.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
To say that he spoke candidly in defence of the movie would be an understatement. His comments were not only brazen and disgusting, his tone was condescending as if to say that people having a negative reaction to such scenes was their own fault. What is even more worrisome is that he was not representing a character when he was chatting with Chopra, but that he genuinely believed this. He did not mince his words or even attempt to say things differently, instead he just held his ground and kept defending the film.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
For him, the movie was not just a means of entertainment for the masses, but an honest-to-god depiction of what real love should look like. That thought itself is highly disturbing. Especially after he went on to say that he has worked with sexual assault and rape victims. If he has worked so closely with them, has he not understood what a traumatic experience it was for them? How could he then talk so brashly about people in relationships having the liberty to hit their partners?</p>

<p>Several surveys carried out in 2018 revealed that one in three women in India faced abuse and violence at home. Nearly 27 per cent of women have experienced physical violence since the age 15. In such a scenario, his film becomes an example of ideal behavior for the audience instead of just entertainment.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
This became evident when several of his fans started defending him on Twitter with the hashtag 'We Support Sandeep Reddy Vanga' after the interview. This goes far to show that films cannot be only treated as a means of entertainment- they have a far bigger impact on society.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
It can easily be argued that this is not the first time that a movie has revolved around the issues of toxic love or drug addiction or heartbreak. However, what we seem to forget is that it is no longer the '70's or the '80's- it is 2019. In the era of the #MeToo movement, with so many women speaking out about their upsetting experiences in the industry, the film is very problematic. If such movies existed in the past, should the industry not try and do better in the future instead of reverting to the same old patterns?<br />

Bollywood movies had finally managed to move forward when they went from 'Ladki ki na mei bhi haan chhupi hoti hai' to 'Na ka matlab na hai'- it had taken nearly three long decades to make the audience understand the concept of consent. However, this film managed to undo a lot of that progress in a matter of hours.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
After receiving flak for his comments on the chat show, Sandeep clarified that he does not endorse sexual violence but was talking about the liberty of expression that should exist between couples. Similarly, Shahid Kapoor too, said in an interview that he is nothing like the character he portrays in the movie. Nevertheless, the fact that an A-list actor made a choice to star in such a film shows that he does not exactly disagree with the character's actions, which is saddening.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
We can only hope that the film industry and everyone involved in it will come to understand the role they're playing in shaping the minds of the country and do away with scripts and people who write such scripts that romanticise issues of sexual violence and territorial alpha males instead of problematising them. It is not right to treat these issues as a joke anymore.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sandeep recently in an <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/being-in-love-means-the-freedom-to-hit-your-partner-says-kabir-singh-director-sandeep-reddy-vanga-233793">interview with film critic Anupama Chopra</a> was asked about why he made a film that was high on toxic masculinity, to which he said, “When you are deeply in love and deeply connected to a woman (and vice versa), if you don’t have the liberty of slapping each other, then I don’t see anything there.”</p>

<p>The ‘Sacred Games’ star then took to Twitter to share what she thought about his definition of being in love. She posted a video with filmmaker Goldie Behl and wrote, “This is what love will look like if men and WOMEN are taught that slapping is being emotional.”</p>

<p>The two could be seen in a slow-mo video, in which Kubbra and Goldie are seen on a dim-lit terrace, slapping each other with their hands covered in oven mittens.</p>

'Sacred Games' fame Kubbra Sait slams 'Kabir Singh' director Sandeep Vanga in a funny video

<p>Three weeks after Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer 'Kabir Singh' hit the screens, director Sandeep Vanga Reddy sat down with Anupama Chopra and opened up about his thoughts and opinions regarding the film, his life and love in general.&nbsp;<br />

Sandeep, who had also helmed and directed the Telugu version, 'Arjun Reddy' spoke candidly about the controversies surrounding 'Kabir Singh' in his interview to Chopra's YouTube show "Film Companion".<br />
<br />
Talking about the backlash faced in Bollywood, he said that he felt it was a 'bizarre' reaction towards the film as the character is deeply flawed and should be looked at through that lens only. He went on to say that even though 'Arjun Reddy' faced criticism too, it was much worse for him in Bollywood.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
In response to critics who called out the film on its glorification of misogyny and <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/kabir-singh-review-shahid-kapoor-is-outstanding-in-a-film-that-glorifies-toxic-masculinity-229077">toxic masculinity</a>, he ridiculed them by calling them "parasites who are the real threat to the film industry," and stated that they must not have "experienced love in the right way."<br />

When Anupama Chopra tried to reason with him in regard to the comments by the critics, he said that if the movie had not been such a huge hit at the box office, the criticism for his film would have doubled. However, now that the film has earnt over Rs 200 crores, he does not want to concern himself with reviews which only gave his films 2 stars.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a 35 minute chat, he managed to not only justify each and every scene of the film but also dismissed all negative arguments towards it. In turn, he blamed the audience for having such negative reactions.&nbsp;<br />

When asked about a particular scene in the movie where Shahid Kapoor physically assaults Kiara Advani's character, Preeti, he said, "She slapped him without a reason, at least Kabir had a reason to slap her. If you can't slap, if you can’t touch your woman wherever you want, if you can't kiss, I don’t see the emotion there."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Despite the polarised response to the film, 'Kabir Singh' managed to <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/shahid-kapoor-thanks-fans-for-understanding-and-loving-kabir-singh-as-it-crosses-rs-200-crores-mark-at-the-box-office-233068">cross the Rs. 200 crore benchmark</a> on its 13th day, surpassing 'Bharat', becoming the fastest film of the year to do so.</p>

Sandeep, who had also helmed and directed the Telugu version, 'Arjun Reddy' spoke candidly about the controversies surrounding 'Kabir Singh' in his interview to Chopra's YouTube show "Film Companion". Talking about the backlash faced in Bollywood, he said that he felt it was a 'bizarre' reaction towards the film as the character is deeply flawed and should be looked at through that lens only. He went on to say that even though 'Arjun Reddy' faced criticism too, it was much worse for him in Bollywood. In response to critics who called out the film on its glorification of misogyny and toxic masculinity, he ridiculed them by calling them "parasites who are the real threat to the film industry," and stated that they must not have "experienced love in the right way." When Anupama Chopra tried to reason with him in regard to the comments by the critics, he said that if the movie had not been such a huge hit at the box office, the criticism for his film would have doubled. However, now that the film has earnt over Rs 200 crores, he does not want to concern himself with reviews which only gave his films 2 stars. In a 35 minute chat, he managed to not only justify each and every scene of the film but also dismissed all negative arguments towards it. In turn, he blamed the audience for having such negative reactions. When asked about a particular scene in the movie where Shahid Kapoor physically assaults Kiara Advani's character, Preeti, he said, "She slapped him without a reason, at least Kabir had a reason to slap her. If you can't slap, if you can’t touch your woman wherever you want, if you can't kiss, I don’t see the emotion there."
