Russian Foreign minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday issued an ultimatum to Ukraine and said that "the enemy" knows Moscow's proposals for settlement and that if Kyiv fails to fulfil them for good the Russian army will take the matter into their own hands and decide the issue.

"Our proposals for the demilitarisation and denazification of the territories controlled by the regime, the elimination of threats to Russia's security emanating from there, including our new lands, are well known to the enemy," said Lavrov as per a TASS agency report.

‘For your own good’: Russian FM Sergei Lavrov issues ultimatum to Ukraine

Ten months into the ongoing armed conflict with Russia, Ukraine remains defiant. In a message on Saturday, the war-torn nation's President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukrainians will show the Russian aggressors that they remain unbowed despite the relentless attacks that have plunged millions into darkness, and that they will create their own Christmas magic.

On the day that marked 10 months of Moscow's launching of the war that has killed tens and thousands and displaced millions, Zelensky said, "We endured at the beginning of the war - we withstood attacks, threats, nuclear blackmail, terror, missile strikes. We will endure this winter because we know what we are fighting for."

German chancellor Scholz says completely stopping talks with Putin 'would be a grave mistake'

Russia has denounced the West's price cap on its oil and said it "will not accept" it. The Kremlin also reportedly said that it was analysing how to respond.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov as per a report by the Russian news agency TASS said that his country has made preparations for the price cap that goes into effect on Monday (December 5th).

AFP reports that this price cap agreed by the EU, G7 and Australia will go into effect on Monday alongside an EU embargo on maritime deliveries of Russian crude oil. Under the cap, Russia can only continue delivery of oil sold at $60 per barrel or less.

US and allies to announce price cap on Russian oil; move will help cut Moscow's revenues for its war machine

A bipartisan group of 16 US senators in a letter have asked the joe Biden administration to carefully reconsider giving Ukraine the lethal Gray Eagle drones to fight Russia.

Several senators, including Republican Joni Ernst and Democrat Joe Manchin, who are both members of the Senate Armed Services Committee, have expressed alarm at US opposition to the proposal and stated that providing the armable drone "demands careful reconsideration."

Reuters reports that the group has asked Pentagon to explain why Ukraine's request for the drones has so far been rejected. Ukraine has made multiple appeals for the said drones. Here's all you need to know:

Why are these drones special?

The MQ-1C Gray Eagle drone as per Reuters has an operational ceiling of 29,000 feet. This capability can go a long way in helping Ukraine in its defence and would "represent a great technological leap" for the country.

Does Ukraine only want these particular drones?

No, as Russia increasingly uses kamikaze drones and targets civilian infrastructure, Ukraine has made several requests for the United States to give it sophisticated drones. Its most recent request was for anti-drone missiles.

Why is the US hesitant to grant Ukraine's request?

While the Pentagon hasn't publicly stated its position, it is believed that the denial was motivated by worries that the drones could intensify the conflict and the belief that they are not necessary for Ukraine's military effort. Additionally, there are concerns that drones might be shot down.

What now?

The senators as per a Wall Street Journal report have given Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin until November 30 to respond to their questions. They want to know why the Pentagon considered the drone, produced by General Atomics, was inappropriate for the conflict in Ukraine; whether US worries about technology transfer could be alleviated; and whether the Pentagon feared that launching the drone would further enrage Russia.

US hails Ukraine’s ‘extraordinary victory’ in Kherson, says it will have ‘broader strategic implications’

The US and Russia have decided to resume talks related to the New START nuclear arms reduction deal, which was put on hold since before Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

New START, or Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, was signed between the United States and Russia. Its formal name is Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms. It is the only surviving weapons control pact between the two biggest nuclear powers in the world.

The bilateral consultative committee (BCC), the mechanism for its implementation, will meet "in the near future," said Ned Price, spokesperson for the US State Department, on Tuesday.

Russia summons wheelchair-bound man to fight in the Ukrainian war

Russia on Friday labelled superstar rapper Oxxxymiron, popular among young Russians, a "foreign agent", according to the interior ministry's website.

Oxxxymiron, the stage name of 37-year-old Miron Fyodorov, has called the Kremlin's Ukraine offensive a "catastrophe and a crime".

His name was added to a register of "foreign agents" -- a term used to crackdown on Kremlin critics -- on the ministry's website.

The rapper is one of thousands of Russians who left Russia since the Kremlin sent troops to Ukraine and has organised concerts in support of Ukrainian refugees from abroad.

Popular Russian science fiction writer Dmitry Glukhovsky -- who also denounced the offensive and was put on a wanted list for "discrediting" the Russian army -- was also labelled a "foreign agent".

The author of a 2002 post-apocalyptic fiction novel, 'Metro 2033', was put on the list after a Russian court ordered his arrest in absentia for his criticism of the offensive.

Feminist politician Alena Popova -- who has long campaigned for domestic violence legislation in Russia -- and a journalist for Radio Free Europe/Liberty, Irina Storozheva, were also added to the foreign agent list.

The label, which is reminiscent of the "enemy of the people" of the Soviet era, has been used extensively against opponents, journalists and human rights activists accused of conducting foreign-funded political activities.

Trying to escape mobilisation, Russians pay $27,000 for seats on private planes out of country

Nine years after he exposed the scale of secret surveillance operations undertaken by the United States' National Security Agency (NSA) and sought refuge in Russia, President Vladimir Putin has finally granted Russian citizenship to whistleblower Edward Snowden.

The move comes at a time when the relationship between Moscow and Washington is at an all-time low, thanks to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Just five days back Putin had declared the first Russian public mobilisation since World War Two to support Moscow's faltering invasion of Ukraine. Now the news of Snowden's citizenship has led to humorous quips about whether the whistleblower will be drafted into the military.

"Will Snowden be drafted?" Editor-in-chief of the state-run media company RT and ardent Putin admirer Margarita Simonyan wrote in a darkly humorous tone on her Telegram channel.

Given that Snowden has no prior military experience in the Russian army, according to Snowden's attorney Anatoly Kucherena, he would not be called up for duty.

As per an AFP report, Edward Joseph Snowden, born June 21, 1983, was listed among the newly naturalised Russian nationals in a presidential decree that was released on Monday.

Reuters reports that in order for Snowden to stand trial for espionage, American authorities have long demanded that he be brought back to the country.

In November 2020, the fugitive whistleblower revealed that he had applied for Russian citizenship, adding that he will attempt to keep his US citizenship. After 4 months of brutal torture, 7 Sri Lankans freed with Ukraine's recapture of Izyum. This is their story

Faced with an energy crisis at the hands of Russia, Germany has taken a U-turn from its plans of a nuclear exit and announced on Monday that it would keep two of its nuclear plants on standby beyond the end of this year.

This comes a Russia has shut off gas supplies to Europe. After a three-day maintenance period last week, Russian energy giant Gazprom announced that gas deliveries via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline would not resume as scheduled. It blamed Western sanctions for the decision.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, "problems with pumping (gas) arose due to sanctions that were imposed against" Russia.

Economy Minister Robert Habeck announced in a statement that following a fresh network stress test, two of the three remaining power plants will "remain available until mid-April 2023 in case needed."

The facilities as per AFP would be held in reserve in case they were needed to "make a further contribution to the electricity grid in southern Germany," where the development of renewable energy lagged behind that of the north.

According to Habeck, such a crisis is still "very unlikely" because Germany has "very high security of supply."

The Green Minister also emphasised that Germany was sticking to its plan to abandon nuclear power, with all plants being disconnected from the grid at the end of the year, and that it was not reversing course.
