Rolling Stones front-man Mick Jagger turns 80 today. He captured the essence of rebellion and raw sexuality decades ago and shows little sign of slowing down as he turns 80 today. <p>The Rolling Stones rocked Madrid on Wednesday with gusto, and a bit of nostalgia for their late drummer Charlie Watts, as they kicked off a European tour marking their 60th anniversary as a band.<br />

Some 53,000 fans at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium roared with excitement as they welcomed to the stage the original band members Mick Jagger, 78, and guitarists Keith Richards, 78, and Ronnie Wood, who turned 75 on Wednesday.<br />

They have been joined by drummer Steve Jordan for the tour, titled SIXTY. Watts, who joined the band in 1963, died last year aged 80.<br />

"Hola Madrid!" shouted the band`s wiry frontman Jagger to even louder cheering after the band opened the show with “Street fighting man” and Jagger launched into his signature strut dance moves.<br />
<br />
Right before the first song, videos of Watts where displayed in big screens on the stage and the band gave an emotional tribute to their late friend.<br />
<br />
“This is our first European tour without Charlie, we miss him a lot,” said Jagger in Spanish right before playing “Sad, sad, sad” to a moved crowd.<br />
<br />
"The band dedicated the show to him," show designer Patrick Woodroffe, who has worked with the Stones for four decades, told Reuters. "Some time has gone past and we miss him all the time, we laugh about him, we talk about him a lot and this is a way to celebrate his life rather than to mourn it."<br />
<br />
After 17 songs, The Rolling Stones left the stage just to return in response to a big round of applause by the Madrid crowd.<br />
<br />
The band played “Gimme shelter” as the Ukrainian flag and footage of destroyed Ukrainian cities where displayed on the monitors as a statement against war.<br />
<br />
After the two-hour show beaming fans clad in Rolling Stones t-shirts and draped in flags with the trademark lips and tongue logo left the venue chanting “Satisfaction”.<br />
<br />
“It was like they are 30 years younger again,” said Javier Romero.<br />
<br />
During the 14-show tour the British band will play stadiums and arenas in 10 countries, including their homeland.<br />
"On their 50th (tour) in 2012 we said this might be the last we’ve seen them and we have seen them around Europe many times since then, and in England,” said 60-year-old Paul, a fan who came from Britain for the gig.<br />
<br />
The Stones will next play in Munich on Sunday and later perform in Liverpool, Amsterdam, Bern, Milan, London, Brussels, Vienna, Paris and Stockholm.<br />
<br />
According to Woodroffe, the Stones have no plans to stop rolling and refuse to call any tour their last one.&nbsp;"I can tell you categorically that The Rolling Stones will never do a farewell tour... I think everybody in the world is asking `is this the end of The Rolling Stones?`<br />

<p>A series of black-and-white photographs dating back to the Rolling Stones' first concert tour in 1963 will be seen by the public for the first time when they go on display in east London this month.</p>

<p>The images, taken in a London recording studio and at a gig in Cardiff, Wales, were stored under photographer Gus Coral's bed for more than 50 years before he decided to dust them off.</p>

<p>They capture the humble beginnings of a band that would become a household name around the world and include a picture of the musicians getting the money together for cab fare and a tiny crowd waiting in the rain before they and other acts on the tour went on stage in Cardiff.</p>

<p>Coral, 26 when he took the photographs, remembers thinking at the time the band was going to be big.</p>

<p>"Obviously ... I didn't know they were going to last for all that many years and be that special, but I knew they were special," he said.</p>

<p>"We were just climbing out of World War Two and there were certain people who were kind of leaders in finding a new way, a new culture to go forward. And they were one of them."</p>

Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger became a father for the eighth time on Thursday when his ballet dancer girlfriend gave birth to a son in New York, his publicist said. "Melanie Hamrick & Mick Jagger’s son was born today in New York and they are both delighted. "Mick was at the hospital for the arrival. Mother and baby are doing well and we request that the media respect their privacy at this time," Fran Curtis, the long-time publicist for the Rolling Stones, said in a statement. The 73-year-old singer already has seven children with previous partners, as well as five grandchildren, and he became a great-grandfather in May 2014. Jagger and Hamrick, 29, began dating about two years ago, according to media reports. (Reuters)

<p>It is the band&#39;s first album to feature only cover songs, drawn exclusively from the 1950s blues scene of Chicago, where musicians from the blues&#39; southern heartland had settled seeking work.</p>

<p>The city&#39;s amplified sound marked a departure from the acoustic blues still popular in the American south, and paved the way for the rock &#39;n&#39; roll revolution.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Mississippi-born Muddy Waters was the scene&#39;s godfather, and his song &quot;Rollin&#39;&nbsp;Stone&quot; gave Jagger&#39;s band its name.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Songs by Little Walter, Eddie Taylor, Howlin&#39; Wolf, Magic Sam, Jimmy Reed and Willie Dixon all feature on the record, to be released on Friday.</p>

<p>Completing the full circle, the band recorded the album at the British Grove Studios, close to the west London pubs where they honed their all-conquering sound in the early 1960s.</p>

<p>However, the band hadn&#39;t intended their 23rd studio release to be a covers record.</p>

<p>&quot;We cut quite a few new songs,&quot; said Jagger of the recording process, which took place last December.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&quot;One day we got fed up doing this (new) song so we did one blues, then another, then another. I said &#39;OK, let&#39;s come back tomorrow and do three or four more&#39;.&quot;</p>

<p>Guitarist Keith Richards, who had recently released a blues-inspired solo album &quot;Crosseyed Heart&quot;, said he started the ball&nbsp;rolling&nbsp;by getting the band to play the Little Walter track &quot;Blue and Lonesome&quot;.</p>

<p>&quot;As we played that song, it came out very well,&quot; he told The New York Times.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&quot;Then suddenly Mick says: &#39;Let&#39;s do Howlin&#39; Wolf.&#39; It just took off. After that, you couldn&#39;t stop Mick. &#39;Cool&#39;, I said. &#39;Let&#39;s keep&nbsp;rolling, boys.&#39; In a way, it was a total accident.&quot;</p>

<p>The spontaneity defines the sound of the record, lending a beefy, dirtier edge to the decades-old classics, recreating the febrile atmosphere of the West Chicago clubs where they were spawned.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Producer Don Was, who has worked with the band for two decades, takes much of the credit for the record&#39;s raw energy, and for drawing every ounce of power from 73-year-old Jagger&#39;s battle-weary voice.</p>

<p>The record does, however, allow the singer to show off his considerable harmonica skills, particularly on the Little Walter covers.</p>

<p>The ephemeral blues genius, who died aged 38 following a 1968 Chicago street fight, is behind the album&#39;s high points, inspiring four tracks: &quot;Just Your Fool&quot;, &quot;Blue And Lonesome&quot;, &quot;I Gotta Go&quot; and &quot;Hate To See You Go&quot;.</p>

<p>He is set to become the subject of much-deserved attention on the back of the new album.</p>

<p>These songs, along with Little Johnny Taylor&#39;s &quot;Everything Knows About My Good Thing&quot; -- featuring electric-blues god Eric Clapton on guitar -- all bring out the very best in the Stones, even if the rest are less memorable.</p>

<p>In stepping back to the very beginning, the band has been able to produce its freshest sound in recent memory, aided by the metronomic rhythms of 75-year-old drummer Charlie Watts.&nbsp;</p>
