As the Academy announced its final list of nominations for Oscars 2020 on Monday morning, many prominent names surprisingly did not make it to the list.&nbsp;

These names had featured in almost all the Oscar probable lists prior to the nomination announcement. Yet, when the final list was made public, these names did not feature anywhere.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/oscars-2020-heres-the-full-list-of-nominees-274061">See the full Oscars 2020 nominations list here.</a>

Names like &nbsp;Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Murphy and Robert De Niro were royally snubbed despite their performances being talking points in 2019. Here's a look at the royal snubs from this year's nomination list at the Oscars

Jennifer Lopez

Singer and actress Jennifer Lopez's performance in 'Hustlers' was widely discussed for its powerful storyline and performance. Based on the true story of a ring of women who drugged and swindled rich men at strip clubs, the film had Lopez delivering a fine performance and most had predicted that she would be nominated in Best Supporting Actress category instead Kathy Bates made a surprise entry in the list for her role in 'Richard Jewell'.&nbsp;

"The big surprise of the day has to be Jennifer Lopez not getting a best supporting actress nomination," said Variety chief film critic Owen Gleiberman. "There was just so much buzz about it, so much expectation. A lot of people thought she was going to win."

Eddie Murphy

Murphy's portrayal in 'Dolemite is My Name,' was touted as a comeback of sorts for the comedian and actor and was hailed as his finest in recent times. The man was honoured with best actor nomination at the Golden Globes but did not impress the Academy. &nbsp;

Robert De Niro&nbsp;

Two-time Oscar winner De Niro was nominated as a producer of 'The Irishman,' which will compete for best picture with 8 other films but acting in the gangster epic did not get a mention in the actor's list. De Niro also failed to land a Golden Globe or Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for the part. Meet&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/photos/2020-oscars-nominations-best-actor-273985">best actor nominees here.</a>

Adam Sandler

Actor Adam Sandler won critical acclaim for his dramatic role in crime thriller 'Uncut Gems,' this past year but voters left him out of the Oscar nominations. Gleiberman called Sandler`s performance "extraordinary." "It`s an amazing movie, a truly great performance that shows that Adam Sandler really had a kind of greatness in him," Gleiberman said.

Awkwafina

Perhaps the biggest shock came when Awkwafina was left out of the best actress nomination. The rapper-actress won a Golden Globe for playing a doting granddaughter in 'The Farewell,' but Academy strangely did not deem her fit for an acting nod.&nbsp;

Frozen 2

Walt Disney Co`s blockbuster sequel 'Frozen 2' may have brought in big bucks for the company but the film failed to secure a spot in the best-animated feature category, which included two lesser-known entries from Netflix Inc - 'Klaus' and 'I Lost My Body'.&nbsp;

Great Gerwig&nbsp;

The Academy was severely criticised for one again failing to recognise female directors as it left out<a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/oscars-2020-saoirse-ronan-becomes-2nd-youngest-actress-to-get-four-nods-274171"> 'Little Women'</a> filmmaker Greta Gerwig. She was nominated for an adapted screenplay but not for best director. The film though received six nominations including best picture and a surprise nod for supporting actress Florence Pugh.&nbsp;

2020 Oscars nominations: 7 snubs that took everyone by surprise

Legendary star Robert De Niro Was honoured with the lifetime achievement award at Sunday's Screen Actor's Guild Award.&nbsp;
The award was a tribute to his 50-year old career in films ranging from dramas like "The Deer Hunter," "Raging Bull" and "The Godfather: Part II" to comedies such as "Meet the Parents" and "Silver Linings Playbook."<a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/sag-awards-2020-parasite-wins-top-honours-heres-the-list-of-key-winners-275358">See the complete list of winners here</a>

As he went up on stage to receive the award, the veteran actor took a dig at US President Donald Trump without mentioning him by name. &nbsp;De Niro's dig was in reference to Trump facing Senate trial this week on impeachment charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

"There’s right, and there’s wrong and there's common sense, and there’s abuse of power, and as a citizen, I have as much right as anyone else ... to voice my opinion," the actor said. "And if I have a bigger voice because of my situation, I’m going to use it whenever I see a blatant abuse of power. And that’s all I’m going say about that tonight," the actor said.&nbsp;

He then went on to thank his "comrades in arms" for bestowing the lifetime achievement honour, presented by the SAG-AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Actors) union.

A versatile actor with more than 100 films to his credit, De Niro, 76, also is co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, established to help revitalize lower Manhattan after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks that reduced the World Trade Center to ruins.

Although known for his often-taciturn demeanour in public appearances while strictly guarding his private life, De Niro has emerged as one of Trump's most vocal critics outside of political circles.&nbsp;

This isn't the first time that the actor has critiqued Trump on a public platform. In 2018, he launched an expletive-laden attack on Trump on live television as a presenter on the stage of the Tony Awards for Broadway theatre. Trump responded on Twitter by calling De Niro "a very low-key individual."

A frequent collaborator with director Martin Scorsese, De Niro built his career with haunting portrayals of loners and tough guys - a deranged ex-convict in "Cape Fear," a disturbed vigilante in "Taxi Driver," a disillusioned Vietnam War veteran in "Deer Hunter," a ruthless gangster in "Goodfellas."

A method actor and perfectionist who trained at the Stella Adler Conservatory and the American Workshop and with Lee Strasberg, De Niro earned a reputation for intense preparation.

He learned to speak a Sicilian dialect to play the young mobster Vito Corleone in "The Godfather: Part II," a role that earned him his first Oscar in 1975. And he famously gained 60 pounds (27 kilos) for his second Oscar-winning performance as boxing great Jake LaMotta in 1980's "Raging Bull."&nbsp;

He also found success playing his hard-bitten screen image for laughs, in such comedic roles as an insecure mob boss in "Analyze This" and a retired CIA operative in "Meet the Fockers."

Nevertheless, De Niro has been largely overlooked this awards season for his acting work as hitman Frank Sheeran in "The Irishman," failing to garner nominations as a performer in the Golden Globes, Oscars, or SAG contests. He did, however, share an Academy Award nomination in this year's best picture race as one of four named producers of "The Irishman."&nbsp;

De Niro joins previous SAG lifetime recipients including Alan Alda, Elizabeth Taylor, Morgan Freeman, Clint Eastwood and Debbie Reynolds.

Actor Anna Paquin said that she is `incredibly happy` with her seven-word role in Martin Scorsese`s `The Irishman.`

According to Page Six, Anna`s fans on Twitter were furious about her brief role in the movie.One of her followers said, "I had more lines in the Nativity play I was in when I was seven than Anna Paquin has in `The Irishman,` while another added, "Teacher says every time Anna Paquin talks in `The Irishman,` `Cats` gets a good review."

However, the actor didn`t let the criticism affect her and said, "It`s very endearing when people think they are fighting a fight on your behalf, but not really necessary. I`m incredibly happy."

Veteran filmmaker Martin Scorsese has hinted that his recent film 'The Irishman' might just be his last film.&nbsp;"I`m 77 and I`ve got things to do... I don`t know how many more I can make -- maybe this is it. The last one," the filmmaker told The Guardian in a recent interview.

"We are in a situation now where the theatres are only showing the latest superhero films. You have 12 screens -- and 11 are a superhero film. You enjoy superhero films, fine, but you need 11 screens?" he asked.

Martin Scorsese hints 'The Irishman' might be his last film

While the ace filmmaker Martin Scorsese is known for crafting iconic films, the latest release `The Irishman` faced flak by critics claiming the lead female character in the movie played by Anna Paquin speaks just six words in 10 minutes of screentime.

The Oscar-winning actress plays Peggy Sheeran, the daughter of Frank Sheeran, a character played by Robert De Niro. Throughout her life, she suspects her father of being a morally corrupt person, particularly after he attacks a man, who evidently shoved Peggy in a grocery store, right in front of her.&nbsp;

Despite her presence in the film, however, she rarely speaks. She is mostly seen staring Frank in silence. Considering the capability of `The Piano` actor, some have questioned why a talented actress would be so underutilized, reported Variety.

The 76-year-old actor, however, has defended Scorsese and screenwriter Steven Zaillian`s choice to minimize her words."She was very powerful and that`s what it was," De Niro told USA Today. <a href="Martin Scorsese on making 'The Irishman' into TV series: Never even thought of it">Also read: Why Martin Scorses never thought of making 'The Irishman' into a TV series&nbsp;</a>

"Maybe in other scenes, there could`ve been some interaction between Frank and her possibly, but that`s how it was done. She`s terrific and it resonates."

Paquin herself defended the role and took to her twitter handle earlier this month, agreeing with a user who scoffed at the idea that Scorsese ordered Paquin to appear in the film.

"Nope, nobody was doing any `ordering,`" she wrote. "I auditioned for the privilege of joining the incredible cast of `The Irishman` and I`m incredibly proud to get to be a part of this film."&nbsp;

"Nope, nobody was doing any `ordering,`" she wrote. "I auditioned for the privilege of joining the incredible cast of `The Irishman` and I`m incredibly proud to get to be a part of this film."

Robert De Niro slams US President Donald Trump, calls him a dirty player

It wasn`t all smooth sailing between actors Joaquin Phoenix and Robert De Niro on the sets of&nbsp; 'Joker'.&nbsp;The Oscar-winning stars had different approaches when it came to preparing for the recently released thriller, which follows the origin story of Batman supervillain.
The director of the film, Todd Phillips recounted the friction between the powerhouse actors in Phoenix`s recent Vanity Fair profile, and it all came down to whether or not to do a table read. <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/joker-review-joaquin-phoenix-is-terrific-in-an-extremely-disturbing-film-253248">Read the review of 'Joker' here.&nbsp;</a>

As Phoenix explained in the piece, he prefers an easier approach to get into the skin of his characters."For me, I always thought that acting should be like a documentary. That you should just feel whatever it is that you`re feeling, what you think the character is going through at that moment," Phoenix told Vanity Fair. However, De Niro, an iconic figure in the film business, likes to read through scripts before shooting and be completely familiar with the character and the material.&nbsp;

Phillips revealed that there was some disagreement before shooting began, as De Niro wanted to do a read-through of the script, a process that Phoenix dislikes. "Bob called me and he goes, `Tell him he`s an actor and he`s got to be there, I like to hear the whole movie, and we`re going to all get in a room and just read it`," Phillips recalled in the interview."And I`m in between a rock and a hard place because Joaquin`s like, `There`s no f--- way I`m doing a read-through,` and Bob`s like, `I do read-throughs before we shoot, that`s what we do`," Phillips added.

The two actors ultimately worked out their differences, with De Niro even taking a moment to hold Phoenix`s face and give him a kiss on the cheek. However, that doesn`t mean that they were pals on the sets, as their characters are rivals in the movie.

Phoenix explained that the pair didn`t really speak on set, because of their shared acting methods and superstitions. "I didn`t like to talk to him on set. The first day we said good morning, and beyond that, I don`t know that we talked much," Phoenix said.

De Niro noted, "His character and my character, we didn`t need to talk about anything. We just say, `Do the work. Relate as the characters to each other.` It makes it simpler and we don`t talk. There`s no reason to."

'Joker` features a new take on the comic book character`s origin story, and follows an aspiring stand-up comedian called Arthur Fleck (Phoenix) whose mental health issues escalate, ultimately leading him to a life of criminality. Apart from Phoenix and De Niro, the movie also features Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.

The film released in India on October 2, alongside Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff-starrer `War` and Telugu action epic `Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy`. It releases worldwide on October 4.&nbsp;

Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro didn't get along well on sets of 'Joker'

Robert De Niro has found himself in a real-life court drama, trading duelling lawsuits with his former assistant after their decade-long working relationship went dreadfully sour.

He's accusing her of misappropriating money. She says he subjected her to sexist and harassing comments.

Chase Robinson sued the 76-year-old De Niro on 3 October&nbsp;in Manhattan federal court, seeking $12 million. The lawsuit came six weeks after De Niro’s company, Canal Productions, sought $6 million from Robinson in state court.

Robinson, who’s 37, said she endured years of gender discrimination and harassment as De Niro made sexually charged comments, was verbally abusive and treated her as his “office wife” while she was an executive assistant and eventual Vice President of Production and Finance.

According to the lawsuit, he sometimes directed Robinson to scratch his back, button his shirts, fix his collars, tie his ties and wake him up when he was in bed after hiring her in 2008 when she was 25 and aspiring to a career in the entertainment industry.

“De Niro would unleash tirades against Ms Robinson _ often while he was intoxicated _ in which he denigrated, berated, bullied, and hurled expletives at her,” the lawsuit said. “De Niro made vulgar, inappropriate, and gendered comments to Ms Robinson. He would joke with Ms Robinson about his Viagra prescription.”

The lawsuit included a link to a profanity-laced voicemail message De Niro once left Robinson in which he called her a “spoiled brat.”

Canal’s lawsuit alleged Robinson misappropriated hundreds of thousands of dollars, converted millions of the company’s frequent flyer miles for her personal use, paid herself from Canal’s petty cash account for personal and luxury items and “loafed during working hours, binge-watching astounding hours of TV shows on Netflix.”

It said the company “seeks economic damages from a disloyal employee who, despite being in a trusted position, repeatedly and methodically abused her position to misappropriate her employer’s funds and property for her personal gain.”

Robinson countered in her lawsuit that the lawsuit against her was retaliatory because it was filed after she had resigned and informed De Niro’s lawyer that she was considering a lawsuit to address De Niro’s gender discrimination and wage violations.

“The lawsuit is replete with ‘clickbait’ allegations that falsely characterize Ms Robinson as a loafer, a thief, and a miscreant. Now, when her name is Googled, these allegations pop up on the screen. The results have been devastating to Ms Robinson. Her reputation and her career have been destroyed,” her lawsuit said.

'The Irishman' new trailer: Ray Romano brings comic element in Martin Scorsese directorial

Martin Scorsese`s highly-anticipated new <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/the-irishman-teaser-robert-deniro-and-al-pacino-come-together-in-this-martin-scorsese-film-239827">mob drama 'The Irishman'</a> may turn into a case of `catch it if you can` as far as traditional moviegoers are concerned.

Netflix Inc said on Tuesday the movie, starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino and already generating Oscar buzz, will get a limited 26-day release in independent US&nbsp;movie theatres starting in November before arriving on the streaming platform.&nbsp;

Netflix said it planned to keep the movie in theatres for an unspecified period beyond the streaming launch, however.&nbsp;

The announcement follows an impasse in negotiations for a more traditional movie rollout between Netflix and major theatre chains like AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc and Cineplex Inc , according to The Hollywood Reporter.&nbsp;

Movie theatre chains prefer an exclusive 90-day theatrical window before a film can appear elsewhere; Netflix wants to offer its films to subscribers sooner.&nbsp;

While the limited release starting Nov. 1 in independent movie theatres will not affect awards eligibility for 'The Irishman,' the decision reflects the tension between filmmakers, who like their work shown on big screens, and streaming services that have upended Hollywood`s traditional business models.

Scorsese, one of Hollywood`s most influential directors, did not respond to a request for comment on Tuesday.

But De Niro, who is also a producer, told Reuters earlier this year that he, Scorsese and other producers hoped 'The Irishman' would "have as much theatrical as possible."

Hollywood website Deadline on Tuesday reported that British art-house chain Picturehouse and European movie chain Vue will not screen the film due to the limited theatrical window.

The National Association of Theatre Owners, whose members include the largest movie theatre chains in the world, declined to comment on the Netflix announcement.

'The Irishman,' a saga of organised crime in America spanning several decades, chronicles the mysterious disappearance in 1975 of labour union boss Jimmy Hoffa, played by Pacino.

The film, which features costly "de-aging" technology as its protagonists move back and forth in time, will get its world premiere at the New York Film Festival on Sept. 27. Despite not having been seen, it already tops several U.S. critics lists as a likely Oscar best picture contender next year.

Netflix picked up 'The Irishman' from Viacom Inc`s Paramount Pictures in 2017 after ballooning costs. The film cost $159 million to produce, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Netflix`s limited theatrical release of 'The Irishman' is similar to that of Alfonso Cuaron`s black-and-white movie 'Roma,' which ran exclusively in theatres for 23 days. 'Roma' went on to win three Academy Awards in February but missed out on the coveted best picture prize.

Hollywood star Robert De Niro has never minced his words when it comes to US President Donald Trump. He has now called him “a real racist” and a “white supremacist”.&nbsp;

In a recent interview with the Guardian, the actor said that there was a time in his life when he was willing to take a chance on Trump. "I'm older now and I'm just upset about what's going on. When you see someone like (Trump) becoming president, I thought, well, OK, let's see what he does, maybe he'll change. But he just got worse,” De Niro said.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Not withholding anything, he added, "It showed me that he is a real racist. I thought maybe as a New Yorker he understands the diversity in the city but he's as bad as I thought he was before, and much worse. It's a shame. It's a bad thing in this country.”

He agreed on Trump being a “white supremacist” and said being a ‘fascist’ follows white supremacy. He said, "If he had his way, we'd wind up in a very bad state in this country. I mean, the way I understand it, they laughed at Hitler. They all look funny. Hitler looked funny, Mussolini looked funny and other dictators and despots look funny.”

Among many other things that he mentioned, the actor said that there is a bigger danger lurking, and that is if the future generations look up to him as an example and start to emulate him. He said, “They'll be affected in some way, but they'll be a lot smarter and have many more colours to their personality and be more mercurial and become someone with the same values as he has but able to get much further and do more damage as a despot. That's my worry.&nbsp;

"There are people who look up to him: 'I want to be like him'. But they'll do it much better and they'll be more smart about it," he said.

Will the actor ever play Trump in a film? De Niro said an emphatic no in the interview and explained his decision: "I always find the character's point of view and I can of course find his, but I have so little sympathy for him, for what he's done, the responsibility he's been given and just thrown away. He doesn't care."

De Niro has always been criticial of Trump and his policies. He had once even said&nbsp;"F**k Trump" as he appeared on stage at the Tony Awards last June. In a reply to this,&nbsp;Trump then wrote on Twitter: "Robert De Niro, a very Low IQ individual, has received too many shots to the head by real boxers in movies. I watched him last night and truly believe he may be 'punch-drunk' (sic)"

The investigation into 10 pipe bombs sent to high-profile Democrats and critics of US&nbsp;President Donald Trump is focusing on leads in Florida, a federal law enforcement source said on Thursday.

Former Vice President Joe Biden and actor Robert De Niro on Thursday became the seventh and eighth intended targets of the bombs, all of which were intercepted before they exploded.

The bombs have heightened what already was a contentious campaign season ahead of the Nov. 6 elections in which Trump's Republicans will try to maintain majorities in the Senate and House of Representatives. The episode has also called attention to the harsh rhetoric Trump wields against his rivals.

Trump condemned the bombs but later blamed the media, his frequent foil, for much of the angry tone.

No one has claimed responsibility and the FBI urged the public to report any tips and be vigilant.

Some of the bombs were said to have been hand-delivered, but the law enforcement source said all 10 of the suspicious packages were believed to have gone through the US&nbsp;Postal System at some point. The source said officials were focusing their investigation on Florida.

The pipe bombs discovered on Wednesday were similar to the ones sent to Biden and De Niro, a federal official told Reuters. Authorities described the devices as crude while security experts said their goal may have been to create fear rather than to kill.

Leading Democrats said the bombs were a dangerous outgrowth of an antagonistic political atmosphere created by the president.

Trump and other Republicans have likened Democrats to an "angry mob," citing protests at the confirmation hearing of US&nbsp;Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

The FBI said on Thursday one of the two packages sent to Biden - who once said he would have fought Trump if they were in high school - was discovered at a mail facility in his home state of Delaware and the second at another location.

The device intended for De Niro, who received a loud ovation when he hurled an obscenity at Trump at the Tony Awards in June, was sent to one of his properties in New York City.

Trump blamed media

At a Wisconsin rally on Wednesday night Trump, who has denounced news media organizations as an "enemy of the people," called attention to "how nice I’m behaving tonight” but on Thursday morning he attacked the media.

"A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News," Trump wrote. "It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description. Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!"

Several of the people who were sent bombs - including former President Barack Obama and Trump's rival for the presidency, Hillary Clinton - are frequent targets of right-wing critics.

Also sent packages were Eric Holder, who served as attorney general under Obama; former CIA Director John Brennan, who had his security clearance withdrawn after frequently lambasting Trump; prominent Democratic Party donor George Soros; and California Representative Maxine Waters, another outspoken Trump critic. Two packages were sent to Waters, whom Trump has called "an extraordinarily low IQ person."

Several politicians, including US&nbsp;Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, described the package bombs as an act of terrorism.

"Someone is trying to intimidate. Someone is trying to quash voices in this country using violence," De Blasio said. "I am confident that we will find the perpetrator or perpetrators."

The CNN bureau in New York received a package addressed to Brennan, who has appeared as a CNN analyst, leading police on Wednesday to evacuate the Time Warner building in a busy Manhattan neighbourhood near Central Park.

The package sent to CNN, which Trump has frequently derided for its coverage of him, contained an envelope of white powder that experts were analyzing, New York City Police Commissioner James O'Neill said.

Increased security

Some major media outlets in New York, including the New York Times, increased security on Thursday.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo told CNN some of the packages in his state were hand-delivered and that authorities were scrutinizing security camera videos for signs of the bomber.

Trump told the Wisconsin rally his government would conduct "an aggressive investigation."

"Any acts or threats of political violence are an attack on our democracy itself," Trump said. "We want all sides to come together in peace and harmony."

Last week, Trump, who joined other Republicans in accusing Democrats of encouraging "mob" tactics, heaped praise on a Montana congressional candidate who assaulted a reporter during his successful 2017 campaign.

The first package turned up on Monday and was addressed to Soros, the billionaire financier and advocate of liberal, open-border values who is a frequent target of right-wing conspiracy theories.

The FBI said on Wednesday the packages consisted of a manila envelope with a bubble-wrap interior containing "potentially destructive devices." Each bore a computer-printed address label and six "Forever" postage stamps, the FBI said.

News brief: Big stories of the day

Two more suspected bombs were found in New York City and Delaware on Thursday morning as a<a href="http://www.wionews.com/world/manhunt-underway-after-bombs-sent-to-us-democrats-trump-critics-173411"> manhunt intensified </a>for a serial bomber who targeted high-profile Democrats and CNN, less than two weeks ahead of elections that could alter the US&nbsp;political landscape.

Police said a device in New York City was similar to the other bombs and was addressed to actor <a href="http://www.wionews.com/world/new-york-police-investigate-suspicious-package-found-at-de-niros-restaurant-report-173407">Robert De Niro</a>, who hurled an obscenity at President Donald Trump at the Tony Awards last June.

Police found a ninth suspicious package that was addressed to former Vice President Joe Biden at a mail facility in New Castle County, Delaware, CBS News reported, citing federal authorities.

None of the nine devices went off and no injuries were reported, but some top Democrats called the threats a symptom of a coarsening brand of political rhetoric promoted by Trump, who also condemned the acts.

At a Wisconsin rally Wednesday night Trump called attention to "how nice I’m behaving tonight” but on Thursday morning he attacked the media.

All the people who were targeted are frequently maligned by right-wing critics, including former <a href="http://www.wionews.com/world/explosive-device-found-near-bill-and-hillary-clintons-home-in-new-york-173244">US&nbsp;President Barack Obama</a>, former Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and Obama's Attorney General Eric Holder.

Former CIA Director John Brennan, prominent Democratic Party donor George Soros and California Representative <a href="http://www.wionews.com/americas/suspicious-package-also-sent-to-california-democratic-representative-maxine-waters-confirms-fbi-173278">Maxine Waters</a>, an outspoken critic of Trump, were also targeted.

The bomb packages were sent as the nation prepared for Nov. 6 elections that will decide whether Democrats take control of one or both houses of Congress from Republicans and deny Trump the majority his party now holds in both chambers.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Several politicians, including US&nbsp;Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, described it as an act of terrorism.

"Someone is trying to intimidate. Someone is trying to quash voices in this country using violence," De Blasio said. "I am confident that we will find the perpetrator or perpetrators."

'Aggressive investigation'

Trump told the Wisconsin rally his government would conduct "an aggressive investigation."

"Any acts or threats of political violence are an attack on our democracy itself," Trump said. "We want all sides to come together in peace and harmony."

Last week, Trump, who joined other Republicans in accusing Democrats of encouraging "mob" tactics, heaped praise on a Montana congressman who assaulted a reporter in 2017.

At an event in Texas on Wednesday, Brennan faulted Trump for frequent inflammatory rhetoric.

The first package, which turned up on Monday, was addressed to Soros, the billionaire financier and advocate of liberal, open-border values who is a frequent target of right-wing conspiracy theories.

The parcel intended for Holder ended up rerouted to the return address printed on all the packages - the Florida office of U.S. Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a former chair of the Democratic National Committee, according to the FBI.

The FBI late Wednesday confirmed that two additional packages, similar in appearance to the others, were addressed to Waters.

The other packages consisted of a manila envelope with a bubble-wrap interior containing "potentially destructive devices." Each bore a computer-printed address label and six "Forever" postage stamps, the FBI said

Other officials said the devices contained in the envelopes were all similar to the one found in the mailbox of the Soros home and later detonated by police. At least one bomb was packed with shards of glass, one federal source said.

"It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description. Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!" All the people who were targeted are frequently maligned by right-wing critics, including former US President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and Obama's Attorney General Eric Holder. Former CIA Director John Brennan, prominent Democratic Party donor George Soros and California Representative Maxine Waters, an outspoken critic of Trump, were also targeted. The bomb packages were sent as the nation prepared for Nov. 6 elections that will decide whether Democrats take control of one or both houses of Congress from Republicans and deny Trump the majority his party now holds in both chambers. There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Several politicians, including US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, described it as an act of terrorism. "Someone is trying to intimidate. Someone is trying to quash voices in this country using violence," De Blasio said. "I am confident that we will find the perpetrator or perpetrators." The CNN bureau in New York received a package addressed to Brennan, who has appeared as a CNN analyst, leading police to evacuate the Time Warner building in a busy Manhattan neighbourhood near Central Park. The package contained an envelope of white powder that experts were analyzing, New York City Police Commissioner James O'Neill said. 'Aggressive investigation' Trump told the Wisconsin rally his government would conduct "an aggressive investigation." "Any acts or threats of political violence are an attack on our democracy itself," Trump said. "We want all sides to come together in peace and harmony." Last week, Trump, who joined other Republicans in accusing Democrats of encouraging "mob" tactics, heaped praise on a Montana congressman who assaulted a reporter in 2017. The other packages consisted of a manila envelope with a bubble-wrap interior containing "potentially destructive devices." Each bore a computer-printed address label and six "Forever" postage stamps, the FBI said Other officials said the devices contained in the envelopes were all similar to the one found in the mailbox of the Soros home and later detonated by police. At least one bomb was packed with shards of glass, one federal source said.

Two more bombs sent to former US Vice President Biden, actor De Niro

Another suspected bomb was found in New York City on Thursday (October 25) morning as a manhunt was underway for a serial bomber targeting high-profile Democrats and CNN, less than two weeks ahead of elections that could alter the US&nbsp;political landscape.

The latest device was addressed to actor Robert De Niro, according to CNN.

None of the eight devices went off and no injuries were reported, but some top Democrats called the threats a symptom of a coarsening brand of political rhetoric promoted by President Donald Trump, who also condemned the acts.

All the targets are frequently maligned by right-wing critics, including former US&nbsp;President <a href="http://www.wionews.com/world/explosive-device-found-near-bill-and-hillary-clintons-home-in-new-york-173244">Barack Obama, former Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton </a>and Obama's Attorney General Eric Holder.

Former CIA Director John Brennan, prominent Democratic Party donor George Soros and California Representative <a href="http://www.wionews.com/americas/suspicious-package-also-sent-to-california-democratic-representative-maxine-waters-confirms-fbi-173278">Maxine Waters</a>, an outspoken critic of Trump, were also targeted.

On Thursday morning, the New York City bomb squad removed a suspicious package addressed to De Niro and similar to the other bombs, CNN reported. After the Oscar-winning actor's expletive-laden attack on the president at the Tony Awards in June, Trump called him a "very low IQ individual."

In a first, Netflix has acquired the worldwide theatrical and streaming rights to Martin Scorsese&rsquo;s next film, The Irishman. The movie, a $100 million gangster film starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, is set to be the next Netflix Original.&nbsp;

Announced in 2008, The Irishman&nbsp;is an adaptation of&nbsp;Charles Brandt&#39;s 2014 book named I Heard You Paint Houses, which follows the life of mob hitman Frank Sheeren, who confessed to killing organised-crime leader Jimmy Hoffa. The script of the movie has been written by Steve Zaillian of&nbsp;Schindler&#39;s List&nbsp;and Gangs of New York&nbsp;fame.&nbsp;

The film was initially set up with Paramount for release which was handling the domestic distribution and STX Entertainment handling overseas rights. However,&nbsp;Scorsese and team have now opted to package the movie elsewhere according to IndieWire. &nbsp;

Paramount Pictures had released Martin&#39;s previous film Silence&nbsp;which cost them $46 million but earned only $7.1 million. With the previous movie not delivering&nbsp;results as expected and the exit of chief Brad Grey, the movie hit a few halts. As reported to IndieWire, &quot;The movie is a risky deal and Paramount is not in the position to take risks&quot;.

Martin Scorsese is recognised as one of the world&rsquo;s most famous directors, and with his movie exploring a different mode of distribution, it is expected to bring a shift in how movie makers will use technology to market their films in the future.&nbsp;

Netflix has&nbsp;not commented on the deal, but sources close to the project confirmed a report by IndieWire. Production on The Irishman&nbsp;is expected to start later this year.
