Celta Vigo have parted ways with manager Rafael Benitez and his staff eight months after their appointment, the La Liga club said on Tuesday (Mar 12).

Rafa Benitez sacked by struggling La Liga club Celta Vigo

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has been handed a two-match suspension after being red-carded for his outburst during the La Liga match against Valencia over the weekend.&nbsp;

The suspension comes despite Madrid appealing the red card. The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) issued the diktat saying Bellingham showed "contempt or&nbsp;disregard" towards referee&nbsp;Gil Manzano when Madrid players and staff surrounded him.

The English player has also been fined&nbsp;$652 (£513) while Madrid will have to fork out&nbsp; $760&nbsp;(£598). RFEF&nbsp;disciplinary committee also dismissed Madrid's argument that the referee had made an "error".

<h2>What happened?</h2>

The controversy erupted after&nbsp;Bellingham scored the supposed winner, deep into stoppage time, only for the referee to disallow it saying he had blown the whistle before the ball went into the back of the net.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Anguished that the goal was chalked off, Bellingham lost his temper and charged alongside his teammates at the referee and allegedly mouthed:&nbsp;"It’s a f*cking goal, the ball is in the air. What the f*ck is that!"

Manzano didn't like what he heard and reached for his back pocket, flashing a red card in the direction of the England international.

In a post-match interview, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti provided full support to his midfield star, saying he had not insulted the referee.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

The Catalans needed a stoppage-time penalty converted by Lewandowski at the second attempt to find a way past a Celta Vigo side battling relegation, down in 17th place.

Lewandowski slammed the visitors ahead at Balaidos before half-time but Iago Aspas levelled for Rafa Benitez's Celta early in the second half.

Barcelona tamely struggled to find a way through before being gifted a late spot-kick for a clumsy foul on Lamine Yamal, which Lewandowski dispatched for his 12th goal of the season.

Lewandowski's first penalty attempt was saved by Vicente Guaita but as the goalkeeper was off his line, the striker was given another chance and he converted.

"On the second penalty I scored and that's the important thing," Lewandowski told DAZN.

The Catalans are unbeaten in four matches since Xavi said he would depart at the end of the season.

They face Napoli on Wednesday in the Champions League last 16, with Europe the club's last realistic chance of silverware this season.

"I felt we played well until we got into the final third ... we lacked the final ball," Xavi told DAZN.

"I think the team had effort, attitude, commitment, the decision I made (to leave) was to get that, and it's going well -- 10 points from 12."

Xavi handed Brazilian forward Vitor Roque his first start for the club on the left of the attack, alongside Lewandowski and 16-year-old sensation Yamal.

The latter was Barcelona's brightest player once again, with the Catalans dependent on his skill and speed on the right flank to create danger.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said Tuesday he was unhappy to be pitted against fierce city rivals Atletico Madrid three times in under a month.

Los Blancos take on Diego Simeone's Atletico on Wednesday in Riyadh in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final, again next week in the Copa del Rey last 16, and also in La Liga in early February.

Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos said on Sunday he hoped the club would solve its dispute with Kylian Mbappe and welcome the France superstar back into the squad for the upcoming season.

Mbappe was left out of a squad of 29 players for the French champions' pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea amid an ongoing contract dispute.

"He is an exceptional player but it is a decision that was taken over our heads, by the management," Marquinhos told reporters in the Japanese city of Osaka.

He admitted it was a "delicate" subject.

"Even in Japan you are here with your questions," he complained, although new coach Luis Enrique, sitting alongside the Brazilian, escaped without being asked about Mbappe. "We always want to have top players with us and I hope a decision will be taken to allow him to be with us and help us this season," Marquinhos added.

The 24-year-old Mbappe has said he will not extend his existing deal with the Qatar-owned club, which expires next year, and PSG therefore decided not to take him on the trip east.

He has said he wants to remain in Paris for one more year, but PSG say they would prefer to sell him in this transfer window rather than seeing him depart as a free agent in 2024.

The move can therefore be interpreted as PSG putting pressure on the club's all-time top scorer to either sign a new deal or agree a transfer elsewhere.

Luis Enrique therefore faces the prospect of having to do without PSG's leading scorer from last season at least until the transfer window shuts at the start of September.

Mbappe first joined PSG from Monaco in August 2017 and signed a new deal a year ago, that two-year contract including the option for a third season, to 2025, which the player could take up if he wished.

PSG believe that the player already has an agreement in place with Real Madrid to sign for the Spanish giants as a free agent after the upcoming season.

Sources close to the player also assure that he has a huge offer from a club in Saudi Arabia, although a move there seems highly unlikely.

PSG, without Mbappe but with his younger brother Ethan, are due to face Al-Nassr, the Saudi club for whom Cristiano Ronaldo plays, in a friendly in Osaka on Tuesday.

Madrid said their net worth is 558 million euros, 12 million more than last season, and their net debt, excluding the Bernabeu project, stood at 46.7 million euros as of June 30 2023.

Notably, Mbappe had almost landed in Bernabeu last summer but a U-turn at last moment saw him extending his stay in Paris. The situation, however, has changed since and Mbappe has publicly informed of his intention of not extending his stint with PSG after the upcoming season.

There, however, have been no progress on Mbappe's possible landing in Madrid since he made that statement on June 12 as the club stays cautious of the developments.

Bellingham burst onto the biggest stage at the Qatar World Cup in 2022, driving England into the quarter-finals, where they were narrowly ousted by eventual runners-up France.

The midfielder, who turns 20 later in June, brought grace and balance to the Three Lions, with tireless energy to contribute at both ends of the pitch and maturity beyond his years.

That cool head helped him become Dortmund's youngest captain when he took the armband last October, and he took them to the brink of a rare title.

Dortmund coach Edin Terzic has called Bellingham "the oldest 19-year-old in the world" and was taken aback by his unfluctuating level of performance.

"It is extraordinary to be able to play football so consistently at that age," said Terzic.

Bellingham scored eight goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances this season and was named the German top flight's player of the season in May, two days after his team missed out on the title in the final game of the season.

The Englishman was an unused substitute in the 2-2 draw with Mainz after sustaining a knee injury, watching on with frustration as his team failed to earn the victory which would have clinched their first title since 2012.

Bellingham began his career at Birmingham City, coming through the youth ranks and helping them avoid relegation from the Championship in his one first-team campaign at the club, 2019-20.

Birmingham made the bold choice to&nbsp;retire Bellingham's shirt number, 22, when he left for Dortmund in 2020, "to remember one of our own and to inspire others".

The German side splashed 25 million euros ($27 million) on the then 17-year-old, which they have more than quadrupled now.

The Brazilian winger was sent off in stoppage time by referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea for striking an opponent following a scuffle with Valencia players in which Vinicius appeared to be grabbed around the neck.

Vinicius had earlier been racially abused by fans at the Mestalla Stadium, which led to the game being halted for 10 minutes as the player pointed out people who were abusing him in the stands.

"The RFEF Competition Committee considers that the referee's assessment was determined by the omission of the entirety of the play that took place, which affected the refereeing decision," the federation said.

"The fact that he (the referee) was deprived of a decisive part of the facts led him to adopt an arbitrary decision. And this is because it was impossible for him to properly assess what happened."

Seven people accused of different hate crimes against Vinicius were detained by the Spanish police earlier on Tuesday.

The RFEF also announced that it had fined the club 45,000 euros ($49,536) and that the south stand of the Valencia stadium will be partially closed for five matches.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti admitted they were beaten by the better side as they suffered a painful 4-0 demolition at Manchester City on Wednesday that completed a 5-1 aggregate defeat in their Champions League semi-final.

City, who were beaten by Real at the same stage last season, avenged that heartbreaking defeat with a brilliant performance in front of their jubilant fans, with only Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois preventing them inflicting even more damage.

"They played better than us and deserved to win," Ancelotti told reporters. "They put a lot of pressure at the beginning, it worked out well for them because they made it very difficult for us to get the ball in play and they went two goals ahead.

"From then on, it was difficult to get back into the game. We tried in the second half... but it didn't work out."

Haaland fired another blistering effort just wide and Courtois denied Silva an unlikely hat-trick as City attacks continued in waves before the break.

But they had to show a different side to their game early in the second-half to weather Madrid's reaction and ensure there was no repeat of last season's late drama between the sides.

The closest Real came to a lifeline was a dipping free-kick from David Alaba that Ederson tipped over.

At the other end Courtois continued to win his personal battle with Haaland by turning the Norwegian's shot onto the bar when one-on-one.

But City won the war to move within one match of completing a transformation in the club's fortunes since an Abu Dhabi-backed takeover in 2008.

The next blow to the Spanish giants was self-inflicted as Militao deflected Manuel Akanki's header past Courtois 15 minutes from time.

Haaland was replaced by Alvarez two minutes from the end and that was all the Argentine World Cup winner needed to make his mark as he slotted home from Phil Foden's pass.
