Our aim is to reach this agreement and to pave the way for more pauses that can put an end to this war that everyone is suffering from. Hopefully, the end will be very soon and we need to build this and that in order to reach a lasting permanent ceasefire.”</p>

<p>“So we are hopeful that by 7am (05:00 GMT) tomorrow and everything will stop and we’ll have the beginning of the humanitarian pause," he said adding, “The discussions over the details … of how this will happen were very difficult.</p>

<p>"The contacts on the release of our hostages are advancing and continuing constantly. The start of the release will take place according to the original agreement between the sides, and not before Friday," said&nbsp;Hanegbi.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On November 7, the Indian embassy in Doha secured additional consular access to the detainees, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in a weekly press briefing.</p>

<p>"Qatar has a court of first instance that gave the judgment on eight Indian employees. The judgement is confidential and has only been shared with the legal team. They are now pursuing further legal steps, and an appeal has been filed. We will also remain engaged with the Qatari authorities on this matter," he said.</p>

<h2><strong>Eight Indians kept in confinement since August 2022</strong>&nbsp;</h2>

<p>The Indian men were arrested by Qatari authorities in August 2022, and have been kept in detention without specifying the crimes committed by them. The Court of First Instance of Qatar passed the judgment against them. All of them worked for&nbsp;Dahra Global Technologies and Consultancy Services.</p>

<p>Those sentenced have been identified as Navtej Singh Gill, Birendra Kumar Verma, Saurabh Vasisht, Amit Nagpal, Purnendu Tiwari, Sugunakar Pakala, and Sanjeev Gupta. Their trial began on March 29 after bail pleas were rejected. Bagchi also said that the Indian authorities are in constant touch with the aggrieved families.</p>

<p>"We are in touch with the family... if you remember, the External Affairs Minister (S Jaishankar) met their family in Delhi. We will continue to extend all possible legal and consular support," he said.</p>

<p>On October 30, Jaishankar met the families and said that he shares their pain and concern.</p>

<p>Qatar-mediated negotiations between Israel and Hamas aimed at de-escalating fighting in Gaza continued on Saturday, a source briefed on the negotiations said, even as Israel intensified its assault on the enclave.</p>

<p>Talks have not broken down, but are taking place at a "much slower pace" than before the escalation from Friday evening, the source told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of negotiations.</p>

<p>Gaza's besieged people had barely any communication with the outside world on Saturday as Israeli jets dropped more bombs on the Hamas-ruled Palestinian enclave and military chiefs said a long-threatened ground offensive was gearing up.</p>

<p>Qatar has been conducting behind-the-scenes diplomacy for more than three weeks, speaking to Hamas officials and Israel to promote peace and secure the release of more than 200 hostages Hamas and other armed groups are holding in Gaza.</p>

<p>Qatar's mediation last week led to the release of two American hostages, a mother and daughter, and two elderly Israeli women.</p>

<p>Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday that efforts to secure the hostages' release will continue even during the Gaza ground offensive.</p>

<p>"We will utilise and exhaust every possibility to bring them home," Netanyahu said.</p>

<p>Earlier, the armed wing of Hamas said it had been close to reaching an agreement with Israel over the hostages, but Israel had "stalled" on that possibility.</p>

<p>After Sheikh Jassim's withdrawal,&nbsp;British businessman Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos Group remains the only bidder. According to a BBC report, Ratcliffe is now attempting to conclude a deal for a minority stake in the club, thought to be around 25 per cent.&nbsp;</p>
