This hockey stadium is the first of its kind in the Kashmir valley. The stadium is built at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School Pulwama under the Augmentation of Sports Infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha laid the foundation stone for the Hockey Astro Turf Stadium after his first visit to Pulwama in September 2020.&nbsp;

"This work has been going on for the last one year, this will be Kashmir's first International Hockey stadium. This stadium is 102 by 60 metres, the work is still on and we will start with national tournaments and later international games too. Within days it will be completed now. Around Rs 50 million has been spent on this stadium. The turf is incomplete but children are so eager to play on this field. Pulwama youth has always shown more interest in hockey, but kids wanted a place to learn. When international hockey players come to play here, it will motivate our young generation to pick up this sport. and our youth are very talented but they just didn't have facilities. and I am sure our children will play internationally soon," said Syed Javed Iqbal, Lecturer, Physical Education.

Youth from Pulwama have always shown interest in this sport and their long-pending demand for a stadium. The facility would aid in the revitalisation of hockey in the district.&nbsp;

"We are all extremely happy and a lot of children come to us asking us when this will be completed so that they can play. They are so eager to play on this ground and we have told them it's a matter of days now. Our children are talented, Pulwama has a lot of talent and now we have this turf and I am sure we will do great in hockey as well," said Imtiaz Ahmad Pandit, a physical education teacher of Boys Higher Secondary Pulwama.&nbsp;

Experts from across the country have been brought in to help with the construction of the turf. They are making sure that this becomes a stadium of international standards.&nbsp;

"There is no doubt that we can't hold international matches here, We are a FIH approved agency, whatever materials we use are FIH approved. We have been working on the levels and turf for two weeks now and we have been installing turf for the last 6 days, within two weeks this stadium will be ready," said S Raja, Technical Manager.

But the most excited are the players. Hockey players in Kashmir are already visiting the stadium while it's being made. They are eagerly waiting for it to open so that they can start playing on it.&nbsp;

"I am extremely happy and it's great news for all of us, including players from Pulwama. Kashmiri players have a platform now and can represent the country at international level, people had lost interest and now with these turfs, youngsters are again picking up this sport. Players will be motivated now to play the sport. We will learn so much from the international players playing in these stadiums," said Inderpreet Singh, a hockey player.&nbsp;

The players also say that watching international players play in this stadium would motivate more and more youngsters to play hockey.&nbsp;

''I am extremely happy and it's a very big step, it will motivate the players, I went from here to see the turf. There were players from across different districts of Kashmir just to watch the turf. which means how eager they are to play this sport. The youth gets motivated when they see players wearing Indian jerseys, it motivates us to play more and better. ' said Salman Nissar, a hockey player.&nbsp;

While this will be the only international hockey stadium in the Kashmir valley, this also is the first big sports investment that the government has made in south Kashmir. To make sure that Kashmir produces hockey players of international repute.&nbsp;

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) that lost 40 troopers in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack said on Sunday that the country "did not forgive" and "will not forget" the supreme sacrifice made by the personnel.

A wreath-laying ceremony was held at CRPF camp in Lethpora in Jammu and Kashmir to mark the second anniversary of the deadly attack.

"We have inherited bravery which flows like blood in our veins," he was quoted as saying by the spokesperson.

"The video book has a content of 80 episodes and 300 minutes. A copy of the book will also be sent to the families of each of the personnel killed in the Pulwama suicide bombing attack," Dhinakaran said.

In an inspiring story, a physically challenged man from Pulwama district has started his own business against all odds. 34-year-old Arshid Ahmad Wani, who could hardly make ends meet, is now providing employment to a number of people at his joinery unit.A resident of Malpora, Litter village of the Pulwama, Wani was a carpenter by profession.&nbsp;

In 2016, a tragedy took place and his life changed forever. While he was working on the rooftop of a cowshed, he lost his balance and fell on the boulders, which caused grievous injuries to his legs.

Wani survived after the treatment, however, his both legs got paralysed. Having confined to a wheelchair for over two years, he got depressed. Finally, he decided not to give up and come up with the idea of opening a woodwork unit. As Wani was facing financial constraints, he later got a loan for his business and things are going pretty well for him now.&nbsp;

"For some time, locals and a few relatives helped me for some time. Later, I realised that I should apply for a loan, and thanks to the then Deputy Commissioner Pulwama who appreciated my idea and helped me in getting the loan through District Industries Centre (DIC)," Wani said. "So far I have almost bought all the machines that I need for wood working."

At present, six persons are working at his unit and he is receiving many orders to make doors and windows.&nbsp;

"I request handicapped people not to beg but move on and try to explore ways and means of starting their own ventures," he said.

Mushtaq Ahmad, District Social Welfare Officer, Pulwama said that the district administration is also providing him a monthly pension.&nbsp;

"He came here and we provided him a wheel chair. We are also giving him a monthly pension of Rs 1,000 per month. We also assisted him to get a loan from DIC. He has established a unit. This is a message for physically handicapped people. If they need help, we will provide them," he said.&nbsp;

Yawar Magray, an employee of Wani`s unit, lauded his owner`s will power and extended gratitude to DIC for sanctioning a loan for him.

"They set up a unit with the help of DIC. We make doors and windows. Many others are also working here. We are getting employment because of him. I am thankful to DIC for helping him," he said

Two terrorists killed as encounter breaks out in J&K's Pulwama

Four members of the&nbsp;Members of the European Parliament (MEP) have criticised the South Asian country Pakistan for its involvement in the Pulwama terror attacks in India in 2019.

"We call on the European Commission and the European External Action Services to immediately condemn the leadership and government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for its participation in the Pulwama attacks and request the European Union to consider sanctions against those responsible," the members said in a letter.&nbsp;

The statement came after a Pakistani minister in the National Assembly openly admitted that Pakistan's Prime minister Imran Khan was involved in the terror attack. The MEP condemned the&nbsp;"blatant and brazen" disclosure.

While Pakistan repeatedly denied any involvement in the attack, the recent declaration by Fawad Chaudhry brought back the question of whether or not Pakistan government was involved in the disastrous attack.&nbsp;"On 29 October 2020 Pakistan's Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry, stood up in the Pakistan National Assembly and hailed the Pulwama terror attack as a 'success 'under Imran Khan's government. EU lawmakers condemn Pakistan's involvement in Pulwama terror attack

In a reference to a dogfight that had broken out after India carried out Balakot airstrikes, Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa (retired) said if Pakistan had targetted our installations, India were in a position to "wipe out" Pakistan's forward brigades.&nbsp;

"And God forbid had they hit our installations on February 27, we were also in a position to wipe out their forward brigades. They know our capability. Basically, if this thing is there in their mind that we are likely to strike, they first look at how their own military is doing. The 2019 attack in which 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel died was the worst terror attack on Indian soil.&nbsp;

The MEA said, "The charge sheet has been filed after investigation of a year and a half since the attack took place on 14 February 2019. It has been filed to address the act of terrorism and to bring perpetrators of such a heinous crime to justice."

Shared enough evidence with Pakistan on Pulwama: MEA

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) in its charge sheet in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack case has named Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar, his brothers Abdul Rauf Asghar and Ammar Alvi, slain JeM terrorist Mohammad Umar Farooq, suicide bomber Adil Ahmed Dar and other terrorist commanders operating from Pakistan.

The 13,500-page charge sheet names people who were arrested from Pulwama for providing shelter and shooting the last video of Adil Dar, the suicide bomber who used around 200 kgs of explosives in the vehicle that rammed into the CRPF convoy on February 14 last year killing 40 personnel near Lethpora in South Kashmir.

Besides Azhar, those charge-sheeted include seven terrorists who were killed in various encounters and four absconders, two of whom are still hiding in Jammu and Kashmir — one of them a local and the other a Pakistani national.

Two relatives of Masood Azhar -- Abdula Rauf and Ammar Alvi -- have been named in the charge sheet as the main conspirators behind the case. The dead include a nephew of JeM terrorist Mohammed Umar Farooq who had entered India through natural caves at the international border in Sambha in late 2018.

According to the police, a white Hyundai Santro car was asked to stop at the checkpoint, but it&nbsp;accelerated and tried to go through the barricade.&nbsp;

"The security forces opened fire. The driver managed to escape, leaving behind the car laden with IED," Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said. "We got intelligence about a possible attack. We were looking for a vehicle with IED since yesterday," he added.

The car had a fake registration number and was later destroyed along with IED by a bomb disposal squad. The explosion damaged many houses in the area.&nbsp;

A top Lashkar-e Toiba (LeT) commander is killed in the encounter at Handwara in north Kashmir's Kupwara district, an official said.

Initial information suggests there have been no injuries so far. The area has been cordoned off and a search operation is underway.

CRPF and local police were on duty guarding the centre when the incident took place.

Pakistan-based terrorists have been trying to disrupt peace in the Valley by consistently targeting locals and truck drivers.

Jammu Kashmir: 105 posts created in Pulwama, Kupwara and Kargil

A migrant labourer has been shot dead by terrorists at Nihama village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district this afternoon.

Security forces have launched a search operation in the area. The victim has been identified as Sethi Kumar, a resident of Chattisgarh.&nbsp;

As per sources, Kumar was shot in the head after which he was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.&nbsp;

Kumar was working as a labourer at a brick kiln in Pulwama. More details awaited.&nbsp;

Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh on Monday said that his force has received intelligence that terror-outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) is training people for underwater attack.

"After the 26/11 attack in 2008, we set up coastal security. It is doing very well. As the Navy is overall in-charge of maritime security including coastal security along with coast guard, the marine police and other stakeholders, we are ensuring that there is no intrusion from the seas," he told reporters here.

"We have received intelligence that the underwater wing of Jaish-e-Mohammed is being trained for attacks. We are keeping a track of it and we assure you that we are fully alert to foil any of their designs" Singh added.

JeM had orchestrated the Pulwama terror attack in which 42 CRPF jawans were killed in February this year.

When asked about the budgetary allocation to Indian Navy going down, he said,&nbsp;"Because of the budgetary allocation, we have to do a little bit revamp of our procurement plan. Yes, it has limited us to some extent."

Singh said that the Navy is observing Chinese movement in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

"We are watching the progress in the IOR. Chinese want to become a global power, so they will come into the IOR. We are watching them. For us, our national interest is the topmost priority. We will have to act when there is something against our national interest," he said.&nbsp;

Seeking to acquire the capability to hit enemy positions close to populated areas without causing collateral damage, the Indian Army is in the process of acquiring Excalibur guided long-range artillery ammunition which can strike targets more than 50 km away.

"The Indian Army is planning to acquire the Excalibur artillery ammunition from the Americans under the emergency procurement procedures," government sources said here.

The acquisition case is being processed under the emergency powers for procurement of weapon systems and ammunition to be war-ready in post-Pulwama attack-like situations.

The ammunition is being acquired for units deployed along the Line of Control where artillery shelling by Pakistan is a common feature.

The ammunition can be busted in the air as well as after its penetration into bunker-type structures by using its different fuses.

In a recent meeting, the Army briefed Defence Minister Rajnath Singh about its plans to acquire the guided ammunition from the US which uses the GPS system to hit targets at ranges more than 50 km.

The Excalibur ammunition was developed in the US for improving the accuracy of the artillery shells in the war in Afghanistan which the Americans have been fighting for almost two decades now.

The Army has also started inducting the US-made M-777 ultra-light howitzers which can be used for firing the Excalibur ammunition.

The Army has also gone ahead with the purchase of the Spike anti-tank guided missiles which can be used against the enemy armoured columns.

The Indian Air Force recently acquired multiple ammunition and spares for its fighter aircraft to be war-ready.

The acquisition by the Air Force includes the Balakot airstrike-fame Spice 2000 bombs, made by Israel, including the version which can penetrate and destroy fortified structures.

The IAF has also acquired the Strum Ataka anti-tank guided missiles for its Mi-35 attack helicopters.&nbsp;

Indian Army to buy American howitzer ammo for long-range accurate strikes

An encounter broke out on Tuesday between terrorists and security forces in forests of Tral area of Pulwama district. The firing is still underway.

Security forces on Wednesday killed an unidentified militant in an encounter in a forest in Tral in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, police said.

Troops of 42 Rashtriya Rifles with Special Operations Group, Tral were carrying out a cordon and search operation during which the encounter broke out, news agency ANI reported.&nbsp;

On receipt of information, troops of 180 Batallion CRPF rushed to the spot for reinforcement. Further details are awaited.&nbsp;

"One militant was killed in the gun battle while there were no casualties among the security forces," he added. 
The identity and group affiliation of the slain militant is being ascertained.

More than 700 terrorists have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir over the last three years, the Home Ministry said on Tuesday, news agency PTI reported.&nbsp;

A total of 113 terrorists were killed between January and 16 June this year, 257 were killed in 2018, 213 in 2017 and 150 in 2016, taking the total number of those killed during the period to 733, it said.

As many as 112 civilians have also lost their lives during this period in the state. Of them, 15 had died in 2016, 40 in 2017, 39 in 2018 and 18 between January and 16 June, this year.

"The government has adopted a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism. Security forces are taking effective and continuous action in countering terrorism. This has resulted in a corresponding change in the number of such incidents, including casualties," Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.

"Security forces keep a close watch on persons who attempt to provide support to terrorists and initiate action against them," he added.

"They (Pakistan) have closed their airspace that is their problem. Our economy is vibrant and air traffic is a very important part. You have noticed that the Air Force has never stopped our civil air traffic," he said at a press conference here.&nbsp;

Pakistan extended the ban on its airspace for all Indian flights till June 28. The country had fully shut its airspace on the eastern border with India after the IAF carried out aerial airstrikes on a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror camp in Balakot on February 26.&nbsp;

The strikes were in response to the terror attack in <a href="https://www.wionews.com/opinions/pulwama-terror-attack-can-india-respond-like-israel-197942">Jammu and Kashmir`s Pulwama</a>, in which 40 CRPF personnel lost their lives on February 14. In March, Pakistan partially opened its airspace for all flights but not for Indian flights.&nbsp;

Since then, foreign carriers using the Indian airspace have been forced to take long detours because they cannot fly over Pakistan. The closure has mainly affected flights from Europe to Southeast Asia.&nbsp;

Dhanoa recalled: "Only on February 27 (this year) we had stopped Srinagar airspace for two-three hours. We did not allow tension with Pakistan to dictate our civil aviation because our economy is much bigger and much stronger as compared to theirs."

He was speaking at the press meet after the IAF at its Gwalior airbase recreated the Tiger Hill attack and displayed the aircraft used during the `Operation Vijay` to commemorate 20 years of the Kargil conflict.

"The purpose of our attack has always been to show our resolve and capability. The message has been given to the person who is being hit. On August 2, 2002, the message was given to the person who was being hit as that person never returned," said the Air Chief Marshal.&nbsp;

Dhanoa said that Pakistan Air Force planes did not cross the Line of Control (LoC) during the February 27 dogfight in the aftermath of the air strike on a JeM terror camp in Balakot, a military objective, which India achieved.

"Pakistan did not come into our airspace. Our objective was to strike terror camps. Their objective was to target army places. None of them crossed the border. We achieved our military objective. None of them crossed the Line of Control into our territory," he said.&nbsp;

The IAF organised a seminar on `Air operations in Kargil war, lessons learnt and way forward` at Air Force Station Gwalior. The focus of the seminar was conducting air operations at high altitude by fighters, transports, and helicopters of IAF employing contemporary equipment and innovative strategies.&nbsp;

To celebrate the event, a flypast by various aircraft like SU-30 MKI, M 2000, MiG -21 Bison, Jaguar, and Advanced Light Helicopter was also undertaken. The Kargil conflict was an intense border clash fought between India and Pakistan in the mountains of Kashmir in 1999.
