Two terrorists were killed in an encounter that broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Nihama area of Pulwama district in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir&nbsp;on Monday (June 3) morning, reports said quoting police.

"Bodies of 02 terrorists killed in the anti-terrorist operation recovered so far. Identity &amp; affiliation being ascertained. Operation in progress. Further details shall follow," Kashmir Zone Police said on its X social media handle.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, V K Birdhi also told PTI news agency about the killing of two terrorists in the exchange of fire.

In an earlier post on X, Kashmir Zone Police said that the security forces were on the job. "Encounter has started at Nihama area of District Pulwama. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow," it had said.

"Based on specific input, a Joint Search Operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the dense forest area of Awra, Kupwara, today. During the search, a terrorist hideout was busted, and a large cache of arms, ammunition, equipment and other war-like stores have been recovered," Chinar Corps posted on X.

Security forces got a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in Pulwama's Arshipora area following which a cordon and search operation was launched. During the search, terrorists fired on security forces resulting in a gun battle.&nbsp;

It was a joint operation of the Kashmir Police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Indian Army. After the operation started, more troops were brought in to carry out a major combing operation in the area.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir police have&nbsp;arrested 44 active terrorists and 183 over-the-ground workers (OGW). Two terrorists of Jaish outfit killed in Pulwama encounter

Four terrorists were killed in two operations in the Kashmir Valley. The first encounter started in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district and the second encounter was in the Soura area of Srinagar. Four Lashkar Toiba terrorists were killed in these operations, according to Jammu and Kashmir Police. 
 
In south Kashmir’s Pulwama, police claim to have killed the killers of TV actress Ambreen Bhat. She was shot dead outside her house in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday.&nbsp; 
 
Both were newly recruited local terrorists named Shahid Mushtaq Bhat of Hafroo Chadoora Budgam and Farhan Habib of Hakripora Pulwama.They had killed the TV artist on the instruction of LeT Cmdr. Lateef. "IGP Kashmir recovered one AK-56 rifle, four magazines, and a pistol," said IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar.

Security forces in India killed two terrorists belonging to the Al Badr outfit in south Kashmir's Pulwama district. Jammu and Kashmir police said that 62 terrorists have been killed in the various operations in the Kashmir valley in the first four months of 2022.&nbsp;

Jammu Kashmir police said that 39 terrorists belonging to&nbsp;&nbsp;Lashkar-e-Taiba, 15 terrorists of Jaish, six terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen, and two&nbsp;terrorists of Al Badr have been killed this year.

Out of 62 terrorists killed, 15 were foreigners, mostly Pakistanis, and 47 were locals.&nbsp;

"Both killed terrorists have been identified as Aijaz Hafiz and Shahid Ayub. 02 AK 47 rifles recovered. Both belong to Al Badr outfit. Both had been involved in a series of attacks on outside labourers in Pulwama in the month of March-April 2022.Operation is over," said Kumar.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jammu Kashmir police informed that a soldier was also injured during initial exchange of fire. The officer has been shifted to the hospital for treatment.&nbsp;

Three terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed in an encounter in the Pahoo area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Security forces recovered three dead bodies from the encounter site along with arms and ammunition.&nbsp;

Security forces had input about the presence of terrorists in the Pahoo area of Pulwama, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police and Army (50RR ) in the said area.&nbsp;

During the search operation, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the search party which retaliated effectively leading to an encounter.&nbsp;

"In the ensuing encounter, 03 terrorists linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. They have been identified as Arif Ahmad Hazar @Rehan (Deputy of LeT’s top commander Basit), Abu Huzaifa @ Haqqani (Pakistani terrorist) and Natish Wani @Haider resident of Khanyar, Srinagar," said Vijay Kumar, IG Kashmir.&nbsp;

The Jammu and Kashmir Police said that all the killed terrorists were part of groups involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/SFs and civilian atrocities.&nbsp;

"The killed terrorist Arif Hazar was a categorized terrorist, active since March 2021 and involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/SFs and civilian atrocities besides, several cases were registered against him in Srinagar city," said Kumar.&nbsp;

The Pulwama attack has once again brought the spotlight on Pakistan and it’s proxies operating in India. The Jaish-e-Mohammed, an organisation founded by Masood Azhar and headquartered in Bahawalpur in Pakistan’s Punjab province, has claimed responsibility for the attack.&nbsp;

It should be borne in mind that organisations like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed and Jaish-al-Adl (which carried out a similar suicide attack on Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard on February 13, killing 27 soldiers), the Haqqani network and the Afghan Taliban are all creations of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI.&nbsp;

These organisations must be considered as armed wings of the ISI to wage undeclared war on its neighbours and to give the Pakistan state a strong element of deniability.&nbsp;

It should also be recognised that since the 1980’s, Pakistan has been a state sponsor of terror and has consistently used terror as an instrument of state policy.&nbsp;

In October 1994, a Britisher of Pakistani descent, Ahmed Omar Sheikh, was sent from England and he successfully kidnapped three Britishers and an American from the backpackers paradise of Paharganj, New Delhi, to force the government of India to release Masood Azhar.&nbsp;

However, this plan did not succeed as the UP police were able to rescue the hostages from Ghaziabad, UP. Two policemen and a terrorist were killed in this rescue operation, but all the tourists were freed unhurt. Ahmed Omar Sheikh was sent to Tihar jail where he remained till December 1999.&nbsp;

It should be borne in mind that Pakistan has never been a friend of the Kashmiris and distrusts them thoroughly. However, it covets their land for its strategic location and water resources.&nbsp;

Pakistan does not have any border with China except through Gilgit-Baltistan, a part of J&amp;K, which has been under its illegal occupation since 1947. The people living here do not have any political or human rights and the original Shia inhabitants are now a minority due to the settling of Pathan and Afghan refugees and presence of thousands of Chinese for construction activity along the Karakoram highway.&nbsp;

The fight, against terrorism and militancy, is being fought primarily by the Jammu and Kashmir police since 1988. The Army, BSF, CRPF and other security agencies are playing a very significant role, but it is the J&amp;K police which bears the brunt of the attacks and is usually the first responder to any terrorist attack.&nbsp;

Similarly, a large chunk of the Kashmiri population is pro India, but not very vocal about it.&nbsp;

The Pulwama attack poses a serious challenge to India and cannot be allowed to go unanswered. Not just the perpetrators, but also their handlers and masters in GHQ, Rawalpindi, have to be brought to book through all available means at the disposal of the Indian government.&nbsp;

Just as the Jaish-e-Mohammed is an auxiliary of Pakistan, stone pelters and those who interfere in anti-terror operations are their auxiliaries and must be dealt with sternly.&nbsp;

However, the rest of the Kashmiri population must be treated with honour and respect. This calls for careful calibration of the security forces response and J&amp;K police can play a major role in that. &nbsp;

There have been unanimous parliamentary resolutions asserting that the whole of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. The Indian state must work resolutely to make that happen.

Pulwama attack cannot be allowed to go unanswered

Brigadier Harbir Singh, who was injured in an operation against Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists on Monday in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, had cut short his leave to lead his soldiers from the front, a senior army officer said Tuesday.

"Brigadier Harbir Singh, who is among the injured, was on leave at home. When he realised at midnight that the operation has started, he cut short his leave voluntarily and rejoined," General Officer Commanding of Army's 15 Corps Lt Gen KJS Dhillon told reporters.

Lt Gen Dhillon was briefing reporters about the operation that led to elimination of three Jaish terrorists who were responsible for the suicide car bomb attack on CRPF on February 14 in which 40 security personnel were killed.

"He (Brigadier Singh) came back to Kashmir and went straight to the operational site. He was leading his men from the front. DIG Amit Kumar (who was also injured) again was leading his men from the front and you would see from the injuries to our officers, it shows our commanders were leading the operation from the front and we were able to achieve nil civilian casualties," Lt Gen Dhillon said.

He said the Army officers will continue to lead from the front during operations in future as well.

Major VS Dhoundiyal, three Army soldiers and a policeman were killed in the gun battle at Pinglan in Pulwama district on Monday. Several other personnel including DIG Kumar, Brigadier Singh, a Lt Colonel and a captain were among the injured.

He said all the personnel, who sustained injuries during Monday's operation as well as those injured in the car bomb attack last week, were now stable and undergoing treatment.

Asked about the high number of casualties in the operation, Lt Gen Dhillon said the security forces wanted to avoid any civilian casualties.

"There were two to three main reasons for it. We did not want civilian casualties. As you are aware, other than one civilian casualty, which happened due to terrorist fire in the initial stages itself, not a single civilian has been injured in this operation that lasted 17 hours. That is the risk we took, we took it on our chin," he added.

Lt Gen Dhillon asked people to not go near the encounter sites.

"At the same time, I would like to convey to people to please stay away from the encounter site during the encounter and after the encounter for your own safety. During the encounter crossfire, something can go wrong and after the encounter because of the leftover explosives, it can cause injury or death," he said.

In the initial burst of fire four army jawans and one civilian sustained critical gunshot injuries. They were evacuated to hospital for medical attention. Consequently, four injured jawans attained martyrdom and the civilian also succumbed to his injuries," J&amp;K police said in a press release.&nbsp;

Two JeM terrorists shot dead in Pulwama encounter, four soldiers killed 

A terrorist was killed and an Army Havaldar martyred while another soldier was wounded in a fierce encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Tuesday morning.

Police have identified the terrorist as Hilal Ahmad Rather son of Ghulam Mohammad Rather, a resident of Behgambagh Kakapora district Pulwama.

Police said that he was involved in several terror crimes, including the escape of top Lashkar commander, Naveed Jatt, who was killed in an encounter last year.&nbsp;

"As per police records, he was affiliated with proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen. He had a long history of terror crime records and was wanted by law for his complicity in a series of terror crimes including an attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities," police said in a press release.&nbsp;
