<p>Since being ousted in April 2022,&nbsp;as a result of losing a vote of confidence in Parliament, Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Khan has pushed for the holding of early elections nationwide. By October, general elections would be held in Pakistan thanks to the election commission.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per The News, Khan, a former cricketer who is now a politician, said he was willing to wait until October for elections. But, his choice hinges on the coalition government led by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDMreadiness )'s to delay the polls.</p>

<p>The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and other members of the ruling coalition form the majority of the PDM (PML-N).&nbsp;</p>

<p>Khan said he could postpone the elections until October if the coalition administration provided a roadmap assuring that everything would take place systematically.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The PTI leader thanked the Supreme Court for overturning the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) decision and ordering the Punjab Assembly elections for May 14 while speaking to his party's members and supporters through video link.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a victory for the Khan-led PTI party, the three-member bench set May 14 as the date for elections in the politically significant province.</p>

<p>Khan said: “The incumbent government is using all tactics to escape from elections, which is a part of the London plan,” apparently referring to the former prime minister and the PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif.</p>

<p>Since an assassination attempt on him in November last year, Khan has been talking about a “London Plan” which as per his definition&nbsp;entails&nbsp;conspiracy regarding his murder and where commitments were made to bring “absconder” Nawaz Sharif to power as quid pro quo for agreeing to one appointment.</p>

<p>The last general election in Pakistan&nbsp;was held in July 2018 and the term of Pakistan’s current National Assembly is till October 2023.&nbsp;</p>

As per a Twitter video posted by Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, the forces are going to the extent of covering his entire head with what appeared to be a black bucket, presumably some kind of bullet-proof helmet. The extra caution&nbsp;stems from the PTI chairperson's claims that there could be another attempt on his life.</p>

<p>In the video, Imran Khan could be seen walking slowly towards the Lahore-based anti-terrorism court's entrance, surrounded by commandos carrying black bullet-resistant shields.&nbsp;</p>

<p>PTI reports that the case's hearing, which lasted over a week, witnessed high drama after two judges of the original five-member bench, Justices Jamal Khan Mandokhail and Aminuddin Khan, excused themselves from the case hearing.</p>

<p>Following this, the Chief Justice constituted a bench comprising himself, Justice Ahsan and Justice Akhtar to proceed with the PTI petition.</p>

<p>On Monday, the government put forth a statement through the Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Awan, asking for the formation of a full court to hear the case. It also sought the dismissal of the PTI petition in the light of what it interpreted as a "4-3" order issued by the apex court on March 1.</p>

<p>The CJP, however, rejected the government's request for a full court and instead suggested that a larger bench could be sought.</p>

Citing Dawn, PTI reports that the government&nbsp;disputed the court directions&nbsp;after Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail and Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, who were among the four judges who had written additional notes in the Feb 23 order, raised objections on the constitution of the bench as well as the invocation of the apex court's suo motu jurisdiction by the chief justice.</p>

<p>The clashes that erupted outside Khan's Zaman Park residence as per the press agency PTI were the result of a police operation to enforce an arrest warrant against Khan.</p>

<p>In a strongly worded letter Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, on Sunday (March 26) responded to President Dr Arif Alvi’s letter which was sent to him two days ago. The PM said that the president’s letter was “blatantly partisan” and in parts read like “a press release” of the opposition political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).&nbsp;</p>

<p>This was stated&nbsp;in reference to a letter sent by Alvi to Sharif, on Friday, asking him to direct federal and provincial authorities to assist the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The request was reportedly in line with the Supreme Court’s orders to “avoid further complications”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The president also mentioned the “use of disproportionate force” by authorities against politicians, party workers and journalists amid recent clashes with former prime minister Imran Khan’s PTI. This prompted PM Sharif to respond and “set the record of the government straight” while accusing President Alvi of constantly espousing “one-sided, anti-government views…notwithstanding your constitutional oath/office of President”.</p>

<p>He accused Alvi of violating his oath of office on several occasions including the order of the dissolution of the National Assembly on April 3, last year, following “illegal instructions” by the former PM Imran Khan which the Supreme Court days later also declared unconstitutional. PM Sharif also accused the president of “failure to discharge” his constitutional duty citing clause (5) of Article 91 to “call upon me to assume the office of the Prime Minister and administer the oath of office.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>He added, “Despite the foregoing and several other instances, where you actively worked towards undermining a constitutionally elected government, I have made all-out efforts to maintain a good working relationship with you. However, the contents of your letter, its tone, and language have compelled me to respond to it.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Pakistan PM addressing the country’s president also stated, “regrettably and ostensibly due to your party allegiance, you have failed to note the sheer isolation of laws, contumacious disregard of court orders, attacking the law enforcement agencies, damaging public property, attempts to create chaos, civil and political unrest, and in short, to bring the country to the brink of economic default and civil war by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-lnsaf (PTI).”&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the letter, Sharif asserted that actions by the authorities&nbsp;were in accordance with the law and that PTI’s complete disregard for the law tarnished the image of Pakistan in the international community. He also called Alvi out for not addressing the former PM’s conduct despite being the president and described Khan’s actions as an “aggressive, rather militant, attitude of a political order in complete defiance of court orders”.</p>

<p>Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party has reportedly hired a firm for lobbying in the United States to make authorities aware of the threats faced by Pakistan’s former prime minister.</p>

<p>Dawn newspaper, quoting a senior party leader, reported that the PTI’s US unit signed a contract with a Washington-based lobbying firm, Praia Consultants LLC, on February 21 this year. The contract will be valid for six months and can be renewed for another six-month term with mutual consent.</p>

<p>The New York-based PTI unit will pay $8,333 per month to the US firm. Under the contract, the firm “shall provide expert advice regarding the client’s relationship with the US government and institutions”.</p>

<p>The firm shall also “organise meetings with several key US decision-makers and will provide guidance in terms of the content of the meetings”.</p>

<p>The details of the agreement were revealed only on Wednesday, a month after the contract was signed after Pakistan’s former US ambassador Hussain Haqqani posted a copy of the contract on his Twitter handle.</p>

<p>“What we are paying the firm, does not come from Pakistan. It’s our money that we are spending to protect Imran Khan,” he wrote.</p>

<p>“The firm will help us in making Americans aware of the threat to Khan’s life,” he told Dawn.</p>

<p>The need to hire a lobbying firm to repair relations between Khan and the Biden administration marks a departure from the party’s previous policy where Washington has been blamed for the cricketer-turned-politician’s ouster from the government in April last year.</p>

<p>Pakistan government is considering to initiate legal proceedings to declare former prime minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party a banned outfit, local media reported.</p>

<p>His remarks came after police claimed to have seized weapons and petrol bombs from the former premier's residence in Lahore</p>

<p>Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Saturday said that the legal team of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was examining the matter.&nbsp;He, however, clarified that the prerogative to officially ban a political party lies with the judiciary.</p>

<p>“Terrorists were hiding in Zaman Park. Weapons, petrol bombs, etc have been recovered from the residence of Imran Khan which is enough evidence to file a case against the PTI for being a militant organisation,” Sanaullah was quoted as saying.</p>

<p>On the government’s plan to initiate the process to ban Khan’s party, the minister said: “Primarily it is a judicial process to declare any party proscribed. However, we will consult our legal team on the issue.”</p>

<p>The push to declare Khan’s party a “militant organisation” came from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s niece Maryam Nawaz, who is also the senior vice president of the PML-N party.</p>

<p>Prime Minister Sharif agreed with the assertion and tweeted, “If anyone had any doubt, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Niazi’s antics of the last few days laid bare his fascist and militant tendencies.”</p>

<p>Meanwhile, an Islamabad court delayed the arrest warrant of Khan in the Toshakhana until March 30.</p>

<p>He was allowed to go back after marking attendance outside the Islamabad Judicial Complex on Saturday.</p>

<p>Speaking to the news agency AFP, one of Khan's lawyers said, "The court has cancelled the arrest warrant after marking Imran Khan's attendance. The hearing has been adjourned till March 30."</p>

<p>Earlier in the day, the Punjab police launched a surprise search operation at Imran's residence – hours after he left to appear before a local court in Islamabad – and arrested several party workers.</p>

<p>Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore himself monitored the operation as the police used heavy machinery to break down the gate of PTI chief Imran Khan's residence.</p>

<p>Police were accompanied by water cannons, bulldozers, and a prisoner van. They soon demolished PTI camps in the area with the help of cranes and removed barriers and containers.</p>
