Speaking to BBC, Khan said that the PTI was expecting a change after the new army chief came in. But there was no change and in fact, hardships increased, Khan said.&nbsp;

On being asked about his intention to meet General Munir, the former prime minister said it was being reported that he wanted an audience with the army chief, and he did not need the establishment if he wanted to speak to Munir.&nbsp;

"When asked what will I do if the establishment says it wants to talk to you, I said I am a political person and can talk to everyone except for those thieves," Khan told BBC in an apparent reference to the ruling government.&nbsp; 
 
Khan also said that he never invited the army chief or Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to talks.

The PTI chairperson's comments come after media reports said that Khan did reach out to General Munir but was rebuffed.

Citing unnamed sources, Geo News reported that General Munir told businessmen earlier this week that Imran Khan sent him a message seeking a meeting, but he told the former prime minister that it was not his job as army chief to meet politicians.&nbsp;

Munir also asserted that he would neither interfere in politics nor would play any role in it.&nbsp;

Imran Khan has been demanding snap elections in Pakistan since he was ousted last year. The current government, however, has rejected the demand and said that elections would be held as scheduled later this year.&nbsp;

Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency has reportedly decided to arrest former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan in a prohibited funding case, previously known&nbsp;as foreign funding case.

ARY News, citing sources, reported that a four-member team has been formed, and the arrest will be made with the help of the Punjab Police.

It has been further reported that an arrest summary in this regard has been sent to the director general of the FIA for final approval.

The latest developments come after the agency registered a case against the PTI chief and 10 others over accusations of receiving foreign funding. The case was registered by the FIA Corporate Banking Circle.

It was alleged that the former premier, and 10 others violated the Foreign Exchange Act and all of the nominated persons were beneficiaries of the private bank account.

The case was first filed in 2014 by PTI founding member Akbar S Babar, who alleged serious financial irregularities in the party’s funding from Pakistan and abroad.

The PTI has, however, denied any wrongdoing and maintains that the funding is not from prohibited sources.

A scrutiny committee was formed in March 2018 to examine the PTI's financing. It submitted its report on January 4, 2022, after 95 hearings and nearly four years.

The report, based on eight volumes of record requisitioned through the State Bank of Pakistan, proved that the PTI leadership had committed gross violations of funding laws by allowing the collection of millions of dollars and billions of rupees without any source and details from foreigners, including Indian nationals and foreign companies.

Governor of Pakistan's Punjab province on Friday (December 23) de-notified Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi with "immediate effect", plunging the region into a constitutional crisis. Governor Baligur Rehman took the step as he said the chief minister did not comply with his order of obtaining a vote of confidence. Later, however, the Lahore high court set aside the Punjab governor's order and reinstated Chaudhry Parvez Elahi as the chief minister and his cabinet 'conditionally' after he gave an undertaking that he would not dissolve the provincial assembly on the "wish" of ousted prime minister Imran Khan.

The governor belongs to Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) (PML-N) while the chief minister is from Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party. The governor took the step of denotifying the chief minister in order to keep him from dissolving the assembly.

Former Pakistan prime minister and PTI chief Imran Khan had announced that provincial assemblies of Punjab and Kyber Pakhtunkhwa will be dissolved to force snap elections. PTI is in power in both these assemblies.

In the early hours of Friday, the governor issued an order denotifying chief minister Elahi and his Cabinet. Prior to that,&nbsp;large number of supporters of Pakistan's ousted prime minister Imran Khan "besieged" the governor's house.

"Since chief minister, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has refrained from taking a vote of confidence at the appointed day and time (last Wednesday) therefore he ceases to hold office with immediate effect. He however can continue working as chief minister of Punjab till his successor is appointed," the governor said.

Elahi who belongs to the PTI junior coalition partner Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PMLQ) moved the court against the governor's 'illegal order'.

PTI senior leader and former information minister Fawad Chaudhry said the governor will have to pay for his "misconduct".

"The governor's order denotifying the chief minister and his Cabinet has no legal value. Chief Minister Parvez Elahi and his cabinet will continue to function and a reference against him is being sent to the president for his removal from office," Fawad Chaudhry tweeted.

The PMLN and its allied parties had vowed to use all options to stop Khan from dissolving the two assemblies. They say the country can't afford early polls because of its poor economy.

Legal experts say the ongoing constitutional battle between the federal and Punjab governments will eventually be settled by courts as questions of law have arisen after Governor Balighur Rehman asked Chief Minister Elahi to seek a 'vote of confidence' in a special assembly session within 48 hours and subsequently denotified him for his failure to comply with his order.

FirstPost reports that the call recording was apparently leaked by a local Pakistani Journalist named Syed Ali Haider. First shared on Youtube the audio is now also making the rounds on Twitter.

Reportedly a few Pakistani news portals have also claimed that it is an old recording and that the call was made from Pakistan Prime Minister's Office.

Dr Arslan Khalid, a PTI leader who served as Focal Person (Digital Media) to Imran Khan during his regime said that "Political opponents of the PTI chairman can’t think beyond creating fake audios and videos."

With Pakistan going through extreme financial crisis due to natural disasters, the government has come under extreme pressure to organise polls.

"Next Friday (Dec. 23), we will dissolve the Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa assemblies," Khan said while addressing a gathering of his supporters in the eastern city of Lahore, reported The Dawn.

The PTI currently controls two out of Pakistan’s four provincial assemblies and the decision to dissolve their positions has&nbsp;given rise to a legislative crisis. Local elections are generally held alongside the general elections but the government has not said when they will be conducted.

The general elections are stated to take place in November 2023. Sharif has said earlier that the government will not hold local elections before the stipulated time for the polls.

Punjab is the most populous province of Pakistan right now with a population of over 220 million and with the province in crisis, the political scene in the country is expected to get complicated soon. According to the constitution, the government needs to hold regional elections within 90 days of the legislators submitting their resignation and that puts Sharif in a tight situation.

Imran also criticised former army chief Gen (retd.) Qamar Javed Bajwa and said that he has caused more damage to Pakistan than an enemy ever could.

Punjab is the most populous province of Pakistan right now with a population of over 220 million and with the province in crisis, the political scene in the country is expected to get complicated soon. According to the constitution, the government needs to hold regional elections within 90 days of the legislators submitting their resignation and that puts Sharif in a tight situation. “They’re delaying elections just because they are fearful of defeat. We’ll win whenever they’re held," Imran Khan had said earlier during a public address according to The Dawn.&nbsp;

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry took to Twitter to share the deadline set by his party.&nbsp;

While the opposition parties have been calling for early elections, the Pakistan government has not paid any attention to their demands. Sharif has maintained that elections will not be held ahead of time.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Sharif has issued a statement on Twitter regarding the rocket fire from Taliban forces on a border crossing with Pakistan that led to the death of six civilians. In the Twitter post, the Pakistan PM demanded that “the Afghan Interim government should ensure that such incidents are not repeated."&nbsp;

"Pakistan has also approached Afghan authorities at Kabul to highlight (the) severity of the situation and demanded strict action to obviate any such recurrence of the incident in future," the Pakistan military said.&nbsp;
