<p>“I saw him open fire and tackled him before he could fire another round. He dropped the gun and started fleeing. I chased and caught him... Khan sahab, jab tak hum zinda hain, aanch nahi aa sakti. (Khan sir, till the time I am alive, you will not be harmed),” the supporter of the former PM said, according to a report in&nbsp;India Today.</p>

<p>Ibtisam claimed to have pursued the suspect and apprehended him with the aid of other marchers.</p>

<p>Naveed Mohammad Basheer has been named as the shooter who attacked Khan. In addition to admitting his crime, he charged the former PM&nbsp;with blasphemy, claiming that this was what drove him to attack Khan.</p>

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry has confirmed that Imran Khan was shot in the leg by an attacker&nbsp;carrying&nbsp;AK-47 rifle&nbsp;and even called it a “targeted attack” at Imran and the party.<br />

Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi has taken notice of the firing incident near PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s container in Wazirabad and instructed the provincial IGP to submit a report after thorough investigation.&nbsp;“Those behind this incident will be brought to justice soon and the injured will be provided the best medical care,” the chief minister said.<br />

Former minister Asad Umar also informed reporters that Imran will be moved to Lahore where he will be admitted to a hospital for further treatment.</p>

In a speech during the march in Gujranwala, Khan compared himself and his party's struggle to that of Bangladesh's late founding father and Awami League chief Sheikh Mujibur Rehman.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Leaning into the comparison, Khan said a country had split into two the last time&nbsp;a political party with a clear political mandate was denied the&nbsp;right to rule.</p>

<p>“A shrewd politician (Zulfikar Ali Bhutto), in his greed for power, set the armed forces against the then largest party (Bangladesh’s Awami League), which had won elections, causing the dismemberment of the country," said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Last week, Khan had called his protest march a jihad against the ruling government. He egged his supporters by saying, "This is something way beyond politics, it is a war for freedom from these thieves that have been imposed over us. This jihad will decide where the country will go."</p>

<p>He claimed that when he arrived at the electoral watchdog’s office, Khan’s supporters attacked him at the "behest of PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) leadership” with the "intention of murder", according to local media reports.</p>

<p>He further alleged that attempts were made to break into his car by smashing its glass.</p>

<p>In the FIR, Ranjha said that he appeared before the ECP as a plaintiff in the Toshakhana case.</p>

<p>The Toshakhana case refers to the incident where it was alleged that Khan during his tenure as the PM incorrectly declared details of presents from foreign dignitaries and proceeds from their alleged sale. The gifts included Rolex watches, a ring and a pair of cuff links.</p>

<p>Following this the ECP barred Khan from holding office for five years, prompting a wave of protests from the PTI members and supporters.</p>

<p>Videos shared on social media showed police firing tear gas to disperse Khan’s supporters holding a protest outside the capital Islamabad. Security in the city has been stepped up.</p>

<p>Under Pakistani laws, government officials are required to declare all gifts, but are allowed to keep those below a certain value. In some cases, the recipient can buy them back at around 50 per cent.</p>

<p>Last month, Khan admitted that he sold at least four gifts he had received during his premiership and that they had been included in his income tax returns.</p>
