Pakistan's chances of participating in the Hockey World Cup received another blow after the country's cricket board, PCB, turned down a request for financial aid to send the national team for the mega event in India beginning November 28.&nbsp;

Pakistan Hockey Federation had sought a loan from the PCB to send the team to Bhubaneswar and clear the outstanding dues of players.&nbsp;

Pakistan's new head coach Tauqir Dar and manager Hasan Sardar confirmed they had spoken to the PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani and requested him to provide a loan to cover the expenses for the World Cup.&nbsp;

"He was scheduled to meet us on Thursday but due to some urgent issues he spoke to us on phone. He made it clear that the PCB couldn't advance any loan to the PHF since the federation had not returned a loan given to them by the board during the tenure of Lt General (retd) Tauqir Zia in early 2000," said Dar.&nbsp;

Dar said that Mani had minced no words in stating that due to the old loan it was not possible for the board to give a new loan since it had to answer to its financial advisors and auditors. 
"Mani sahib has however assured us he will speak to the government and sponsors to help us overcome our financial crunch," Dar added.&nbsp;

PHF Secretary, Shahbaz Ahmed, also told PTI that the national team's participation in the World Cup was in acute danger since the government was yet to respond to repeated requests from the PHF to release a grant of 8 million Pakistani rupees.&nbsp;

"We have now written directly to the Prime Minister's secretariat for the grant to be released within this week or else it would be very difficult for us to send the team to India," he said.&nbsp;

The World Cup is scheduled in Bhubaneswar from November 28 to December 16.&nbsp;

"If we are not able to send the team to India it will not only damage our image in world hockey but we will also face a hefty fine from the FIH," Shahbaz added.

Dar said that they had told Mani to talk to the Prime Minister and if the government wanted they could directly pay the hotel where the Pakistan team will stay for the World Cup and also credit outstanding dues of the players in their individual accounts instead of giving any money to the PHF.&nbsp;

Players have yet to get their daily allowance for the Asian Champions Trophy and the camp set up prior to the tournament last month in Karachi.&nbsp;

To ensure it got visas on time from the Indian High Commission, the PHF has even applied for visas well in advance to avoid any issues later on as two years ago, the national junior team couldn't travel to India for the Junior World Cup for lack of visa.&nbsp;

The camp for the World Cup has however kicked off in Lahore from Wednesday with Dar taking charge as the new head coach and Danish Kaleem as his assistant coach.

Hasan Sardar continues to be the manager and Rehan Butt is assistant coach.&nbsp;

Pakistani batsman Ahmed Shehzad has been banned for four months over a failed drug test, authorities said Friday, after he pleaded guilty to violating anti-doping rules.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) punished the 26-year-old after he tested positive for a "prohibited substance" during the domestic Pakistan Cup earlier this year.

Shehzad "has been banned for four months effective from 10th July 2018... for violating the board's anti-doping rules", the PCB said in a statement.

He "accepts that he has committed the violations of the PCB rules, but had no intent to cheat or enhance his performance", it added.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued a show cause notice to Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez, seeking an explanation over his remarks on ICC in the next seven days' time.&nbsp

He has also been barred from speaking to the media.

The notice comes days after the 37-year-old raised concern over ICC's process of dealing with suspect bowling actions.&nbsp

Hafeez, who has been called thrice for flexing his elbow more than the permissible 15 degree, was only recently allowed to resume bowling on May 1, after the latest case of him being reported during the game against Sri Lanka in 2017 had him suspended.&nbsp

However, the all-rounder underwent a reassessment on April 17 at the Loughborough University and the results of the evaluation indicated that the elbow extension was within the permissible 15-degree limit.

While speaking media, the all-rounder had made suggestions that the officials were perhaps a little lenient regarding bowlers from certain countries.&nbsp

"There are so many things influencing all this - it has a lot to do with the power of [some] boards and nobody wants to take them on. Mostly there are soft corners and relations between people which no one wants to spoil. What I say is why not implement the rule and get every bowler in the world to go through [testing]. What's the difficulty in that?"

The all-rounder also questioned how on-field umpires called actions that had the minutest of bends beyond the stipulated 15 degrees but not the ones which fell out of bounds massively.&nbsp

"When match umpires called me, I went for my test only to find the flex was recorded up to 16, 17 and 18 degrees. I was surprised: how can anyone with the naked eye see flex from 15 to 16, when at times they are not able to call those whose flex is 25 and even 30-plus? So I have my doubts about this calling system. This is suspicious: why are match referees or on-field umpires not able to see those flexing up to 35 but me with 16 degrees?"

The Pakistan board did not take not of Hafeez's comments but acted only when ICC highlighted it.&nbsp

The Pakistan Cricket Board&#39;s (PCB) Anti-Corruption Tribunal Wednesday hit cricketer Shahzaib Hasan with a one-year suspension for his alleged involvement in the spot-fixing scandal that marred the second edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The 28-year-old has also been slammed with a fine of Rs 1 million by the two-member tribunal.

Hasan, who represented Karachi Kings last year, was found guilty of breaching three clauses of PCB&#39;s code of conduct for players- for luring cricketers into spot-fixing, not reporting approaches by the bookies on time and hiding information regarding his contacts with the bookies.

After the verdict was pronounced, Hasan&#39;s advocate Kashif Rajwana said that his client was not handed punishment for luring someone to indulge in spot-fixing but for not informing the PCB about breaching timely, media reports said.&nbsp;

Rajwana further informed that Hasan&#39;s suspension would end on March 17, adding that he would decide about appealing against the decision only after consulting his client. &nbsp;

Earlier in March last year, the PCB had provisionally suspended Hasan and issued a Notice of Charge with immediate effect from participating in all forms of cricket.

Last year in March, a three-member tribunal was formed by the PCB to investigate the spot-fixing case allegedly involving Sharjeel Khan and Latif. &nbsp;

Latif and Sharjeel both were handed a ban of five years each last year after they were found guilty of spot-fixing and other violation of the board&#39;s anti-corruption code.

We have, however, no say on multilateral events (ICC tournaments),&quot; Goel told reporters in New Delhi.&nbsp;

The PCB has already sent a legal notice to BCCI claiming damages in tune of USD 60 million (Rs 387 crore approx) for allegedly not honouring the MoU that had stated five bilateral series in the cycle between 2015-2023.

It is learnt that the BCCI officials led by joint secretary Amitabh Chaudhary will explain to their PCB counterparts that the series can&#39;t be held without government permission and would also request them to withdraw the case.

If Pakistan refuses to budge, it is learnt that now way will BCCI pay any compensation in this case.

The cash-strapped PCB&#39;s finances heavily depend on a series with India which would mean a financial windfall for the nation, where no international cricketing activity has taken place since terrorist attack on Sri Lankan cricket team.

Indian government says 'no' to bilateral cricket with Pakistan

Pakistan has called off their scheduled cricket tour of Bangladesh this year, the country&#39;s board chairman Shaharyar Khan has said.

Bangladesh last toured Pakistan in 2007-08. Pakistan has since travelled to Bangladesh in 2011 and 2015 and were scheduled to play two tests, three ODIs and a Twenty20 International in July and August in the South Asian country.

Khan said Bangladesh had failed to reciprocate Pakistan&#39;s visits with the Bangladesh Cricket Board turning down an invitation to play two T20 internationals in Pakistan.

&quot;We had spoken about the possibility of hosting them (Bangladesh in Pakistan) this year,&quot; the PCB chairman told ESPNcricinfo.

&quot;Pakistan have now toured Bangladesh twice without them reciprocating, and we feel we cannot tour Bangladesh for the third straight time.

&quot;Therefore, we have decided to postpone the tour, and will explore another window in the next year or so.&quot;

Pakistan has called off their scheduled cricket tour of Bangladesh this year, the country's board chairman Shaharyar Khan has said. Bangladesh last toured Pakistan in 2007-08. Pakistan has since travelled to Bangladesh in 2011 and 2015 and were scheduled to play two tests, three ODIs and a Twenty20 International in July and August in the South Asian country. Khan said Bangladesh had failed to reciprocate Pakistan's visits with the Bangladesh Cricket Board turning down an invitation to play two T20 internationals in Pakistan. "We had spoken about the possibility of hosting them (Bangladesh in Pakistan) this year," the PCB chairman told ESPNcricinfo. "Pakistan have now toured Bangladesh twice without them reciprocating, and we feel we cannot tour Bangladesh for the third straight time. "Therefore, we have decided to postpone the tour, and will explore another window in the next year or so." At least 10 gunmen fired on a bus carrying Sri Lanka's cricket team in 2009 with rifles, grenades and rockets, wounding six players and a British coach, and killing eight Pakistanis. Pakistan call off tour of Bangladesh

Pakistan batsmen Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif have been provisionally suspended and sent home from a Twenty20 competition being played in Dubai as part of an anti-corruption investigation, the country&#39;s cricket board has said.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was investigating whether an international syndicate had attempted to influence matches in the Pakistan Super League, it said in a statement.

Both Sharjeel and Latif play for Islamabad United in the PSL, which is being played in Dubai due to security concerns in Pakistan, though the final will be staged on home soil.

&quot;Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif have been suspended and the rigorous and wide-ranging investigation by the PCB supported by the ICC will continue as part of collective efforts to protect the integrity of the sport,&quot; the PCB said.

Sharjeel played the opening match of the 2017 edition for defending champions Islamabad against Peshawar Zalmi, while Latif was not part of the playing XI.

PSL Chairman Najam Sethi said in a statement that they were working with PCB`s and International Cricket Council`s anti-corruption units to root out corruption.&nbsp;

&quot;The investigation of the PCB Anti-Corruption Unit backed by the ICC ACU has been effective in dealing with this case to date and we will continue to work in the closest collaboration as the investigation proceeds,&quot; he said.

Sharjeel is a regular member of Pakistan`s limited-overs team and made his test debut against Australia in Sydney last month, while Latif has played five one-day internationals and 13 T20 matches.
