&ldquo;We didn&rsquo;t have a strike like this,&rdquo; he recalled with conviction. &ldquo;These areas were always well protected. They never attacked there&mdash;they attacked elsewhere.&rdquo;
<h2>'Pahalgam is not a small area'</h2>
This distinction, he explained, was due to tight security perimeters maintained around Army camps, often extending 2&ndash;3 kilometers, reinforced by constant patrolling and surveillance. Banihal, in particular, was a strategically crucial location during his service. &ldquo;Our job was to not let them reach Banihal,&rdquo; he added.
Colonel Shailendra Singh's reflections on Pahalgam went beyond strategic discourse and into the very essence of its geography and tourism. He said, "Pahalgam is not a small area. It spreads out well beyond the developed zone. Where the road ends, most tourists think that&rsquo;s it&mdash;but the terrain continues, deeply.&rdquo;
The site of the April 22 attack, Baisaran Valley, lies approximately 5-7 kilometers from the main road. Known for its lush meadows and scenic beauty, it is accessible only by foot or on horseback&mdash;usually facilitated by local horsemen, or khachharwalas. This stretch, however, is not part of the formally designated safe zone, which typically extends only 2&ndash;3 kilometers from Pahalgam's main road.
&ldquo;As soon as you cross that tree line, you come to an open area&mdash;beautiful, yes&mdash;but beyond that, it&rsquo;s considered unsafe," he explained.

Meanwhile, in another operation, a terrorist hideout was busted in Machil, and a major cache of arms and ammunition was seized.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a joint operation was launched on Saturday by the Special Operations Group (SOG) Camp Machil and the Indian Army&rsquo;s 12 SIKHLI unit in the forested area of Sedori Nala, Mushtaqabad Machil of the Samsha Behak forest region, falling under the Kupwara Police Station and Police Post Machil, a press release from Jammu and Kashmir Police said.

Pahalgam terror attack: New video surfaces of terrorist shooting a man dead, goes viral

Seema Haider, who crossed the border to marry an Indian man, Sachin Meena, appealed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to deport her to Pakistan, saying that she's "India's daughter-in-law" and does not want to go to Pakistan.
"I was Pakistan's daughter, but now I'm India's daughter-in-law," Seema Haider said, fearing deportation from India after the Indian government suspended visa services for Pakistani nationals.&nbsp;
Seema Haider made headlines in 2023 when she left Pakistan to marry her Indian lover, Sachin. However, she was already married in Pakistan but she illegally entered India via Nepal along with her four children.&nbsp;

India took major actions against Pakistan after Pakistan-based The Resistance Front (TRF) claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of at least 27 people.&nbsp;
"I do not want to go to Pakistan. I appeal to PM (Narendra) Modi and UP CM Yogi (Adityanath) to let me stay in India," Seema said, in a video making rounds on social media, PTI reported.&nbsp;

Moreover, her lawyer is hopeful that she will be allowed to live in India, as she is no longer a Pakistani citizen.&nbsp;
"Seema is no longer a Pakistani national. She married Sachin Meena, a resident of Greater Noida, and recently gave birth to their daughter, Bharti Meena. Her citizenship is now connected with her Indian husband, and therefore the Centre's directive should not apply to her," Advocate AP Singh told PTI on Thursday.
Seema Haider further urged, "I appeal to Modi ji and Yogi ji that I am in their refuge now. I was Pakistan's daughter but now I'm the daughter-in-law of India. Let me stay here."&nbsp;

"In the interest of national security, all media platforms, news agencies, and social media users are advised to exercise utmost responsibility and adhere strictly to existing laws and regulations while reporting on matters concerning defence and other security-related operations," the ministry said in a post on X.&nbsp;

It further stated that premature disclosure of sensitive information may inadvertently assist hostile elements and endanger operational effectiveness as well as the safety of personnel.
"Specifically: No real-time coverage, dissemination of visuals, or reporting based on "sources-based" information related to defence operations or movement should be undertaken," it stated.
The ministry underscored the past incidents, noting the importance of responsible reporting.

"During events such as the Kargil war, the Mumbai terror attacks (26/11), and the Kandahar hijacking, unrestricted coverage had unintended adverse consequences on national interests," it added.&nbsp;
The ministry stressed that it is a shared moral responsibility to ensure that our collective actions "do not compromise ongoing operations or the security of our forces."
"No programme should be carried in the cable service which contains live coverage of any anti-terrorist operation by security forces, wherein media coverage shall be restricted to periodic briefing by an officer designated by the appropriate Government, till such operation concludes," it read.&nbsp;
This comes after India took big actions against Pakistan after The Resistance Front (TRF) claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir. India has accused Islamabad, its regional rival, of supporting "cross-border terrorism".

&ldquo;Our being here is a big response to terrorists. It was a dream to come here, and it&rsquo;s been peaceful here for many years. We came on Monday, and the attack took place on Tuesday; it was very tragic. A lot of people left from here, while many, including us, stayed back. We thought if we left, it would be the win of terrorists. We decided to stay, as our forces are here to protect us, and the people of Kashmir are taking good care of us. We went to Gulmarg, and a lot of things were free for tourists, and there was no fear,&rdquo; said K Jindal, a tourist.

&ldquo;We came on the April 23. We had got the news of Pahalgam attack on April 22 but we still came as we know that Kashmir is a good place. We went to Gulmarg and Sonamarg and today we are touring Srinagar. It&rsquo;s a very peaceful place and we have not faced any issues anywhere. The people are ready to help here at every location. Our drivers and tour operators are very cooperative,&rdquo; said Rajesh, a tourist.
The tourists are showing faith in the security forces and locals. They also appreciate how the locals came to the rescue of those injured in the Pahalgam attack.
&ldquo;Everything is peaceful here. When we heard this news, it did play on our minds, but we still came. Looking at the situation, everything looks normal here. The people here are very cooperative. The befitting response to the terrorists will be that tourists keep coming here and foil the plans of terrorists. They want to hit the tourism in the Valley,&rdquo; said Javed, a tourist.

The hoteliers of the Kashmir Valley have been raising the slogan &ldquo;Not in my name&rdquo;. They have been demanding that the government bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice.
&ldquo;Kashmir has always been, it is and it will always be hospitable. This act was done by some animals, and it has nothing to do with my religion. It&rsquo;s not my name. We all got together, and we spoke of only one thing: we want action against those barbarians. All the people of Kashmir have opened their doors to tourists who are happy,&rdquo; said Manzoor Wangnoo, an activist and a hotelier.
The tour and travel operators have been calling for brotherhood among communities and said that this is the time when we all need to stand together.

As the hunt continues for perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack, a woman says she met two of them only a day back. Ekta Tiwari, a model, told News18 that they posed as mule handlers and were enquiring about their religion. She told the publication that after the photos of the terrorists were released, she instantly recognised two of them and gave the details to the police.
Ekta recalled that she was in Pahalgam with a group of 20 people on April 20 and met the men on April 21. They had asked a local mule handler to arrange a mule ride for them. The next day, two men showed up who claimed they were mule handlers. However, they acted suspiciously and asked them strange questions.

Ekta found their behaviour strange and didn't reveal much. They asked her whether she had a husband and her plans to get married. They told her to read the Quran, and one of them said he teaches the holy book. Ekta said she was wearing a rudraksha mala and told them that she doesn't read the Quran.&nbsp;

"They insisted on taking us to Baisaran Valley, but we didn't go. They were angry and misbehaved with us. We even have videos of the incident. More than half of our group returned early. Out of the sketches released, I recognise one of the terrorists," she said.

After the meeting, Union Minister of Jal Shakti, CR PPaatil,said, &ldquo;A roadmap was prepared in the meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Three options were discussed in the meeting. The government is working on short-term, medium-term, and long-term measures so that not even a drop of water goes to Pakistan. Soon, desilting of rivers will be done to stop the water and divert it.&rdquo;
The decision comes after terrorists attacked tourists at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam on 22 April, killing 26 people and leaving many injured.
