"Our intelligence services have data indicating that British military specialists were directing and coordinating the attack." Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov was quoted as saying by the news agency AFP.</p>

<p>"There is evidence that Britain is involved in sabotage, in a terrorist attack on vital energy infrastructure, not just Russian, but international," he added. But Britain's defence&nbsp;ministry is yet to comment on the matter.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Nord Stream gas pipelines, offshore natural gas pipelines in Europe that run from Russia to Germany in the Baltic sea, suffered four successive gas leaks in September, intensifying the energy crisis in Europe amid ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.&nbsp;</p>

<p>European leaders had accused Russia of the leak, an assertion that was subsequently denied by the Kremlin, saying that the allegations of Russia damaging Nord Stream were 'stupid'. The leaks were reported in both Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines respectively.</p>

<p>The former was operational since 2011 and was closed down by Russia in August for 'maintenance' purposes. The Nord Stream 2 pipeline, although complete, never became operational due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine that broke out in February this year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, Swedish prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist, involved in the criminal investigation stated that the country was already cooperating with Denmark and Germany and thus it rejected the new proposal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ljungqvist added that agreeing to the JIT may have led to the leak of confidential data.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This is because there is information in our investigation that is subject to confidentiality directly linked to national security," said&nbsp;Ljungqvist.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As reported by WION, Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson earlier this week had refused to share the findings of the probe with Russia citing a similar 'confidentiality' reason.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"In Sweden, our preliminary investigations are confidential, and that, of course, also applies in this case," she told reporters.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As a result, Türkiye has emerged as a strategic location for Russia to maintain their dominance in the field of gas supply and also, continue to keep a clear channel to send it to European countries.</p>

<p>"In the course of the work of this hub, which we could create together, of course, it would also be a platform not only for supplies, but also for determining the price, because this is a very important issue -- the issue of pricing," Putin told Erdogan at the meeting, reported Reuters.</p>

<p>The recent damage to the Nord Stream pipelines has also forced Russia to look for an alternative route in case the exports resume and Putin said that Türkiye can develop into a major player in the sector.</p>

<p>He also spoke about grain exports to less developed countries around the world and made it clear that Russia will be honouring its commitment to continue the distribution via Turkiye.</p>

<p>"We are determined to strengthen and continue the grain exports under the Istanbul agreement and the transfer of Russian grain and fertiliser to less developed countries via Türkiye."</p>

<p>The Swedish investigating authorities said on Thursday (October 6) that an inspection of two of the leaks at the Nord Stream gas pipelines has supported the suspicions that they were acts of sabotage. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Mats Ljungqvist, who is a public prosecutor, said in a statement: "We can conclude that there have been detonations at Nord Stream 1 and 2 in the Swedish exclusive economic zone that led to extensive damage to the gas pipelines."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ljungqvist added that the "crime scene investigation had strengthened the suspicions of aggravated sabotage. Pieces of evidence have been gathered at the crime scene and these will now be examined."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Swedish Coast Guard said on Monday (October 3) that there was no visible gas leak from Nord Stream 1 pipeline but a smaller leak from Nord Stream 2 was still visible.</p>

<p>"The larger leak is now no longer visible on the surface while the smaller one instead has increased slightly," the coast guard said in a statement.</p>

<p>The observations were made during an overflight on Monday at around 8:00 am (0600 GMT) of the two pipelines suspected to have been damaged, it added.</p>

<p>All of the leaks in the Nord Stream pipelines were discovered on Monday last week. These leaks were in the Baltic Sea off Danish island of Bornholm.</p>

<p>Danish authorities had estimated that all the gas trapped in the pipelines would have escaped by Sunday.</p>

Energy prices in Europe are already up and the countries are bracing as winter months approach.</p>

<p>The pipelines are operated by a consortium majority-owned by Russian gas giant Gazprom. The pipelines, though not in operation, still contained gas.</p>

<p>According to climate groups, Nord Stream 1 and 2 contained some 350,000 tonnes of natural gas -- methane.</p>

<p>Nord Stream 1 and 2 are major pipelines that transmit gas from west Siberia in Russia to Europe. The pipelines have been a major focus of geopolitical tension as Russia chose to reduce gas supply as a retaliation to western sanctions in the wake of Ukraine war.</p>

<p>On Tuesday (September 27), Scandinavian authorities reported leaks in the vital pipelines. There are suggestions of sabotage voiced by several countries.</p>

<p>Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Pekov, when asked about possibility of sabotage, said, "it is impossible to exclude any options".</p>

<p>Possibility of sabotage was also mentioned by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.</p>

<p>"It's an unusual situation, to have three leaks a distance from each other. That's why it's hard to imagine that it's accidental", Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen told Danish media during a visit to Poland.</p>

<p>The European Commission, however, has said that it was premature to speculate on the cause of leaks.</p>

<p>"Obviously any act of sabotage on any infrastructure is something that we we would condemn," EU Commission chief spokesman Eric Mamer told a regular news briefing.</p>
