<p>American actor and comedian Mindy Kaling has given tribute to her Indian origins while naming her second child.&nbsp;Kaling recently revealed that she gave birth to her secoind child- a baby boy- in September. Kaling has named him Spencer. And like his big sister Katherine `Kit` Swati, Spencer's middle name is a nod to their Indian heritage.<br />

The 41-year-old star is the December cover star for `Vogue` India, which she proudly shared on Instagram Wednesday (local time) alongside a photo of the glam cover.<br />

In the comments, a fan asked, "Not my business but do your children have Indian middle names? You are proud of your culture and I was wondering why the kids have very Caucasian names."&nbsp;<br />

"They do! Swati and Avu!" the actor, writer and producer replied, going on to tell another fan named Swati who said she`d "never known another Swati until now" that her daughter`s middle name is her late mom`s first name.<br />

"It`s gorgeous and meaningful," Kaling added.<br />

In her feature for `Vogue` India, the former `Mindy Project` star admits that although isolation during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has been "not great", she has been thankful for the company of Kit, who turns three this month, "because she`s so fun and funny."<br />

And while the star`s dad and stepmother live close by in Los Angeles, Kaling told `Vogue` India that her father went from seeing his granddaughter daily to not doing so for three months after lockdowns were put in place.</p>

"But waking up at 5 o’clock in the morning to do 26 episodes of TV is not something that I’m going to do again. Right now I’m surprised at how much I enjoy being a mom."<br />

<p>“I had this idea that the ‘Ocean’s’ movies were just a breezy hangout where George Clooney plays pranks on everyone,” she said. “And this was very challenging for me because I had to learn Hindi for a scene I had. None of you guys were on the scene, but I had to have a fight with my mother in Hindi.”</p>

<p>Born to a Tamil father and a Bengali mother, Kaling's mother tongue has never been Hindi and hence she had to hire a coach to get the nuances right.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Although I’m Indian, I was not raised speaking any Indian languages,” she told Parade. “So it was incredibly challenging, and it stressed me out like every night for months before. I got a coach. It’s the hardest thing I ever had to do as an actor – learn another language for a scene.”</p>

<p>Abdul Aziz learned about the US school shooting in which his 17-year-old daughter was killed from CNN, with the story airing live as he broke his Ramadan fast thousands of miles away in Pakistan.</p>

<p>In those chaotic first moments of confusion and terror he called his daughter Sabika Sheikh's phone over and over. She did not answer.</p>

<p>"I kept calling her and sent her messages on WhatsApp. Never before had my daughter failed to reply," Aziz told AFP, fighting back tears at his home in the southern port city Karachi Saturday, just hours after he and his wife had their worst fears confirmed.</p>

<p>"We are still in a state of denial. It is like a nightmare," said Aziz. His wife sat nearby, visibly still shocked and seemingly unable to speak as friends and relatives tried to comfort her.</p>

<p>Sheikh, an exchange student at the Santa Fe High School in Texas, was killed along with nine others after a heavily armed student opened fire on his classmates Friday.</p>

<p>It was the latest school shooting to rock the US, and came just three months after the massacre in Parkland, Florida, in which 17 people were killed, sparking an unprecedented grassroots, student-led gun control movement.</p>

<p>In Pakistan, the Santa Fe shooting has unleashed an outpouring of sympathy and horror over the tragic murder of Sheikh, who had been in the US for 10 months and was just weeks away from coming home.</p>

<p>Sheikh's father said she had always excelled in school, and had dreamed of serving in Pakistan's foreign office.</p>

<p>She had been due to return to Karachi in time for Eid al-Fitr, one of Islam's most revered holidays, marking the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, in which families come together and celebrate with days of feasting.</p>

<p>"She was coming back soon," her father said.</p>

<p>"There is a general impression that... life is safe and secure in America. But this is not the case."</p>

<p>The alleged gunman -- Dimitrios Pagourtzis, who at 17 is the same age as Sheikh -- was later apprehended by police and is being held on capital murder charges, meaning he could face the death penalty.</p>
