"You are being unfair to people on the grounds, sometimes umpires themselves ask for referrals. Other games have also adopted (video referrals)."

FIH CEO Weil, who came on board in March this year, too felt it was not wise to blame umpires after a defeat.

"I think the beauty of sports in principle is that you have a winner and a loser. The day you win, you are happy. The day you lose, you are sad, which I understand. Even Argentina team cried on the bench," he said.

"Respect in fair play is such a nice thing. When you lose, what you have to do? You have to look forward to play better and win next time. To blame umpires is not the hockey style.&nbsp;

"I would just recommend (that) and definitely say umpires have a tough job, decision to be made within seconds. It (questioning umpires) is not acceptable."

The FIH CEO said the world body is no mood to review any umpiring decisions.

The 2018 Men's Hockey World Cup will be the 14th edition of the Hockey World Cup field hockey tournament. It is scheduled to be held from 28 November to 16 December 2018, at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

It is considered as the most important tournament in field hockey after Olympics which is organised after every four years.

The best teams around the world showcase their skills on the field during the World Cup to clinch the coveted trophy.

Till the previous edition, 12 qualifying nations used to participate but according to the new qualification process, which was announced in July 2015 by the International Hockey Federation, now 16 teams can participate.

The 2018 Men's Hockey World Cup will be the 14th edition of the Hockey World Cup field hockey tournament. It is scheduled to be held from 28 November to 16 December 2018, at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

The 2018 Men's Hockey World Cup will be the 14th edition of the Hockey World Cup field hockey tournament. It is scheduled to be held from 28 November to 16 December 2018, at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. It is considered as the most important tournament in field hockey after Olympics which is organised after every four years. The best teams around the world showcase their skills on the field during the World Cup to clinch the coveted trophy. Till the previous edition, 12 qualifying nations used to participate but according to the new qualification process, which was announced in July 2015 by the International Hockey Federation, now 16 teams can participate. The defending champions Australia will compete with England, Ireland and China in Pool B while the hosts India will Belgium, Canada and South Africa in Pool C. In this edition, a total of 36 matches will be played within a span of 18 match days and 27 technical officials appointed by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) hailing from 18 countries from all five continents will officiate at this prestigious event. India hockey team captain Manpreet Singh has replied to an incident that embarrassed the <a href="http://www.wionews.com/hockey-world-cup">World Cup</a> organisers ahead of their crucial quarter-final clash against Netherlands.&nbsp;

Indian team players including captain Manpreet Singh were accused of entering the VIP lounge of the Kalinga Stadium during the match between Netherlands and Canada.

As per the media reports, Hockey India official 'yelled at' the Indian players for entering the restricted zone.&nbsp;

As per the protocol of the tournament, the players were not entitled to be present at the VIP lounge. But on the request of a few near and dear ones, Manpreet and a few players entered the area and was busy in signing autographs and clicking pictures with their fans.

France eked out a narrow 1-0 win over debutants China in the second cross-over match to advance to the quarterfinals of the men's hockey World Cup here on Monday.&nbsp;

The lone goal of the match came in the 36th minute from the stick of Timothee Clement.

France might be the lowest ranked team in the tournament at 20, but they had already shown the world that rankings hardly have any significance by stunning Olympic champions Argentina 5-3 in the pool stages.

France will face two-time defending champions and world number 1 Australia in the second quarterfinal on Wednesday.

The Frenchmen started on a bright note against world number 17 China and took the early initiative by earning four back-to-back penalty corners as early as in the second minute but wasted all the opportunities.

China made a subdued start to the game and allowed France to dominate the possession, relying mostly on their counter-attacking ability to stun their opponents.

Will Calnan scored England's first goal with a perfect-mid-air deflection. Phil Roper pushed the ball from the left corner and set a perfect chance at the goalmouth for Calnan, which he scored without making any mistake.

Liam Sanford was given the player of the match for his tremendous effort in England's victory.

Chief India coach Harendra Singh on Saturday said for him the pool matches were a four-nation event and the real World Cup begins now after the hosts grabbed a direct entry into the <a href="http://www.wionews.com/sports/hockey-world-cup-india-maul-canada-5-1-to-book-quarte-final-berth-182506">quarter-final with a 5-1 thrashing of Canada</a>.

India topped Pool C with seven points on account of a better goal difference than Olympic silver medallist Belgium and will play their quarter-final game on December 13.&nbsp;

"Those who have visited my room know I have already written who we will play in the quarter-finals and who in the semifinals. For me a four-nation tournament has finished and the World Cup starts now," Harendra said.&nbsp;

"From quarter-finals, you can smell a medal. The actual tournament starts with the next game."&nbsp;

Harendra said India were guilty of running too much with the ball in search of goals in the opening two quarters.&nbsp;

"We are missing in the final pass, we were running for goals. We have to wait for our moment, can't rush towards the ball. I think the first half, we did too much running," he said.

"We were too much in a hurry. We were lacking in the final execution. I think we have to throw out the childish instinct."

He, however, rued the fact that India failed to keep a clean slate.

"We were running for the ball. I want the players to tackle irrespective of their position. We failed to keep a clean-sheet and I feel bad about it," Harendra said.&nbsp;

"By conceding you give away the momentum to opponents. It puts pressure on the (future) opponents when they see the team has kept a clean sheet.

"This team doesn't look into any other team's bedroom. Our target was 6-0, we won 5-1. This team is working on that for the last 4-5 years. We have a target and we know if we achieve that we will reach where we want to," he added.

Despite leading 5-1, India removed goalkeeper PR Sreejesh for a kicking back with three minutes remaining and Harendra said it was a premeditated tactic.

"I should have done (removed goalkeeper) 3 minutes ago. It was decided that in the 8th minute we will remove, but we missed that somehow. Irrespective of the result, we had decided we will take out the keeper (shortly before the end)," he said.

The coach informed that skipper Manpreet Singh didn't play the full match as he was unwell.&nbsp;

"We knew Manpreet was having cough and sore throat. We could not use him for the entire match. So, we had one less midfielder. That's why Lalit's (Upadhyay) role changed. I pulled Lalit back a little," Harendra said.&nbsp;

Man-of-the-match Lalit, who scored two goals on Saturday, said their main focus was to maintain the structure.&nbsp;

"As the coach told us, our structure and energy should be the focus. We were going all out. He (coach) knows each and every player, how to use them. He wants us to play fearlessly," he said.

Standing on the cusp of creating history, two-time defending champions Australia are keen to put up a good show at the ongoing <a href="http://www.wionews.com/hockey-world-cup">hockey World Cup</a> to ensure an uninterrupted flow of funds from its government till the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Aiming to win a rare hat-trick of titles, Australia chief coach Colin Batch said a disastrous outing here could seriously affect its preparations for the Tokyo Olympics as its government may not release additional funds.

By virtue of the national team's impressive performances over the years, which includes back-to-back world titles in 2010 and 2014 besides the Champions Trophy and Commonwealth Games gold earlier this year, hockey is one of sports identified by the Australian government to get additional funding till the 2020 Olympics.

"It's very important that we continue to get the funding. Of course, it's linked to our performance. It was good to have the funding consolidated right till Tokyo 2020. The team has earned that with their performances over the last two years. It has given a lot of encouragement," Batch said at the Kalinga Stadium here ahead of his side's World Cup opener against Ireland on Friday.

"We would like to perform well here, because then the players will get more funding as well. They know that, so it goes on. If we are knocked out in the early part of the tournament here, then that can affect our funding. So, it's very important to play well here and be successful," he added.

Being the two-time defending champions, there is pressure on Australia to become first hockey playing nation to win a hat-trick of World Cup crowns, but the coach said they are taking it as a challenge.

"The Aussie group has a proud history. We are defending our title here and we are looking it as a challenge. That's our approach,? Batch said.

Australia's last success on Indian soil was when they won the Hockey World League (HWL) Final here last year and Batch said the Kookaburras drew heart from that campaign.

"We continued to improve during the tournament (HWL Final). We could not win a game in the group stage but we drew three games against quality opposition. We made it to the quarterfinals and our hockey improved significantly from there," he said, summing up Australia's showing in the HWL Final.

"We have got some belief from that tournament that we can continue to improve at whatever level we start at. Earlier this year we have got some success in the Commonwealth Games and the Champions Trophy. Each tournament creates different obstacles."

Talking about hosts India, Batch said India have already earned back its respect in world hockey with their upward rise in the recent years.

"They (India) have improved. We have played them at the Champions Trophy and that was the best Indian team we had seen for a while," the Aussie coach said.

"I think they will play well here, but again the best teams will play consistently right through the tournament. There will be pressure on India for sure, but they have a good team. I think everyone in world hockey respects them enormously."

Australia's co-captain Aran Zalewski too agreed with his coach and said they were taking the tournament as a challenge.

"It's great that Australia has such a proud history in World Cups. We have taken experiences from the past but this is completely different group. We have now got 10 guys making their debut at World Cup," he said.

"For us as a team this is our first real chance of winning a World Cup as a group. We are not taking it as pressure but as a challenge."

Recently, Malaysia won bronze at the Asian Champions Trophy after defeating Japan for the third-place match, where India and Pakistan were the champions as they shared the title.
