<p>FBI agents in tactical gear on Wednesday raided the Los Angeles-area mansion home of YouTube star and social media influencer Jake Paul in an investigation stemming from a looting spree at an upscale shopping mall in Scottsdale, Arizona, officials said.<br />
<br />
The Federal Bureau of Investigation also searched two locations in Las Vegas, but no one was taken into custody during the raids and no arrest warrant has been issued for Paul, the agency said. Paul, 23, was not&nbsp; present when his home was searched, according to Laura Eimiller, an FBI spokeswoman in Los Angeles.<br />
Paul`s lawyer, Richard Schonfeld, in a statement acknowledged that his client`s home was searched and promised cooperation with the investigation.</p>

<p>Paul, whose viral YouTube video postings of provocative pranks have won him millions of followers, had no comment on his Twitter and Instagram accounts. An FBI spokeswoman in Phoenix, Brooke Brennan, said agents were "investigating allegations of criminal acts surrounding the incident at Scottsdale Fashion Square in May." She declined further comment because the search warrant was under court seal.<br />
<br />
Local news video footage from the raid showed officers removing several rifles from Paul`s mansion in Calabasas, about 30 miles northwest of Los Angeles. Scottsdale police said separately that misdemeanor charges filed in June accusing Paul of criminal trespass and unlawful assembly in connection with the Fashion Square "riots" were dismissed on Wednesday in conjunction with the federal probe.</p>

<br />
Misdemeanour charges from that incident were likewise dropped against two men police described as Paul`s associates, one of them a Las Vegas nightclub promoter. Police said dismissal of those charges was tied to completing the federal investigation, adding that prosecutors could refile the case if warranted.<br />
<br />
Civil disturbances in Scottsdale on May 30 grew out of demonstrations triggered by the George Floyd killing that week. Police said Paul took part in the unrest and was present after the protest was declared an unlawful assembly. <p>Harvey Weinstein was charged in Los Angeles on Friday with a third sexual assault case, and prosecutors there said they have started the process of seeking his extradition from New York, where the former film producer is serving prison time for rape.<br />

The onetime Hollywood mogul, who tested <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/harvey-weinstein-free-of-coronavirus-symptoms-spokesman-says-291724">positive</a> for the coronavirus soon after being incarcerated in upstate New York but has since recovered, was newly charged with a single felony count of sexual battery by restraint.<br />
<br />
The 68-year-old had already been charged in Los Angeles with rape, sexual penetration by force and forcible oral copulation for an alleged encounter with one woman, and with sexual battery of a second woman, both in February of 2013.</p>

Harvey Weinstein hit with third sexual assault case in Los Angeles

<p>Every starry-eyed ingenue arriving in Los Angeles faces the same question: how to catch that big break in Hollywood? For Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, it's far more complicated.<br />
<br />
The pair, who formally <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/meghan-markle-prince-harry-thank-fans-for-support-in-last-instagram-post-from-official-account-289704">stepped down as senior members</a> of the British royal family this week, have reportedly already relocated to sunny California.<br />
<br />
They are currently rumored to be hunkering down at a compound in Malibu, the exclusive beach community outside Los Angeles long favored by A-listers and movie moguls.<br />
<br />
But how the couple will achieve their ambition of forging a new, "financially independent" life remains to be seen.<br />
Meghan's options would appear to be more straightforward.<br />
<br />
It is a homecoming of sorts -- she grew up in Los Angeles, her mother still lives here, and she has extensive contacts from her days as an actress.<br />
<br />
"I think Meghan will continue to work in the entertainment world one way or another," said celebrity branding expert Jeetendr Sehdev.<br />
<br />
"It's their unique selling point -- Meghan, at the end of the day, has come from the entertainment industry. They don't want to be denying that DNA."<br />
<br />
While Sehdev thinks it is "unlikely" she will go back into acting, Meghan "might present documentaries, she might do more voiceover work."<br />
<br />
Before she left Britain, <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/hollywood-news-meghan-markle-makes-hollywood-comeback-with-disneys-elephant-288858">Meghan had already narrated a wildlife documentary for Disney</a> -- a company that her royal background could make her uniquely suited to.<br />
<br />
"The fact that she was a princess -- people do like that idea," said Los Angeles-based producer and journalist Simon Thompson.<br />
<br />
"Even though they're no longer part of the royal family, people will still put that brand on her -- she's ideal for alignment with things like Disney."<br />
<br />
Other entertainment giants including Netflix have already voiced interest in working with her.<br />
<br />
But if she were to act again, Meghan will likely be wary of "stunt casting" and need to be selective in picking more substantive roles, Thompson added.<br />
<br />
"I think she'll get some big offers," he said. "It really depends on whether she wants to continue to be seen as a celebrity or as an agent of change."<br />
<br />
<strong>- 'Complete 180' -</strong><br />
<br />
For Harry, the decision to sever family ties and move thousands of miles away is more of a plunge into the unknown.<br />
"I don't see a natural fit for somebody like Harry in Hollywood -- but that's not to say that he won't adapt," said Sehdev, bestselling author of "The Kim Kardashian Principle."<br />
<br />
"The royal family brand was programmed to be opaque. It's so controlled, so contrived and so manufactured that we don't really know who these people are."<br />
<br />
Speaking engagements, book deals and interviews -- including on Hollywood's famous red carpets -- could be options to redress that, said Sehdev.<br />
<br />
"He's going to have to do a complete 180 and actually take a leaf out of the book of Kim Kardashian, those reality show influencers, and say I'm gonna actually open up my life. Let you in and show who I really am."<br />
<br />
The pair could also emulate the Obamas by forming a production company, suggested Thompson -- a move that would allow both to highlight causes important to them such as veteran care, mental health and the environment.<br />
<br />
<strong>- 'Life of celebrities' -</strong><br />
<br />
Another decision facing the couple is where to live.<br />
<br />
With Meghan's mother based in the city, gated communities and private streets in affluent neighborhoods such as Brentwood or Beverly Hills could appeal.<br />
<br />
"I don't think we're going to see them out and around in the heart of Hollywood, living right in the thick of it," said Thompson.<br />
<br />
"That would be just a logistical nightmare for them," he added, pointing to the security requirements and the couple's young son Archie.<br />
<br />
President Donald Trump has insisted US taxpayers will not pay their security bill -- prompting a rare response from the couple's spokeswoman, who said they had "no plans to ask the US government for security resources."<br />
<br />
Calabasas -- a hilly suburban haven for the likes of the Kardashian clan -- could be another option, said Sehdev.<br />

Every starry-eyed ingenue arriving in Los Angeles faces the same question: how to catch that big break in Hollywood? For Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, it's far more complicated. The pair, who formally stepped down as senior members of the British royal family this week, have reportedly already relocated to sunny California. They are currently rumored to be hunkering down at a compound in Malibu, the exclusive beach community outside Los Angeles long favored by A-listers and movie moguls. But how the couple will achieve their ambition of forging a new, "financially independent" life remains to be seen. Meghan's options would appear to be more straightforward. It is a homecoming of sorts -- she grew up in Los Angeles, her mother still lives here, and she has extensive contacts from her days as an actress. "I think Meghan will continue to work in the entertainment world one way or another," said celebrity branding expert Jeetendr Sehdev. "It's their unique selling point -- Meghan, at the end of the day, has come from the entertainment industry. They don't want to be denying that DNA." While Sehdev thinks it is "unlikely" she will go back into acting, Meghan "might present documentaries, she might do more voiceover work." Before she left Britain, Meghan had already narrated a wildlife documentary for Disney -- a company that her royal background could make her uniquely suited to. "The fact that she was a princess -- people do like that idea," said Los Angeles-based producer and journalist Simon Thompson. "Even though they're no longer part of the royal family, people will still put that brand on her -- she's ideal for alignment with things like Disney." Other entertainment giants including Netflix have already voiced interest in working with her. But if she were to act again, Meghan will likely be wary of "stunt casting" and need to be selective in picking more substantive roles, Thompson added. "I think she'll get some big offers," he said. "It really depends on whether she wants to continue to be seen as a celebrity or as an agent of change." - 'Complete 180' - For Harry, the decision to sever family ties and move thousands of miles away is more of a plunge into the unknown. "I don't see a natural fit for somebody like Harry in Hollywood -- but that's not to say that he won't adapt," said Sehdev, bestselling author of "The Kim Kardashian Principle." "The royal family brand was programmed to be opaque. It's so controlled, so contrived and so manufactured that we don't really know who these people are." Speaking engagements, book deals and interviews -- including on Hollywood's famous red carpets -- could be options to redress that, said Sehdev. "He's going to have to do a complete 180 and actually take a leaf out of the book of Kim Kardashian, those reality show influencers, and say I'm gonna actually open up my life. Let you in and show who I really am." The pair could also emulate the Obamas by forming a production company, suggested Thompson -- a move that would allow both to highlight causes important to them such as veteran care, mental health and the environment. - 'Life of celebrities' - Another decision facing the couple is where to live. With Meghan's mother based in the city, gated communities and private streets in affluent neighborhoods such as Brentwood or Beverly Hills could appeal. "I don't think we're going to see them out and around in the heart of Hollywood, living right in the thick of it," said Thompson. "That would be just a logistical nightmare for them," he added, pointing to the security requirements and the couple's young son Archie. President Donald Trump has insisted US taxpayers will not pay their security bill -- prompting a rare response from the couple's spokeswoman, who said they had "no plans to ask the US government for security resources." Calabasas -- a hilly suburban haven for the likes of the Kardashian clan -- could be another option, said Sehdev. "It's fair to say that they want to live the life of celebrities."

<p>The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/instances-of-binge-drinking-increasing-among-us-adults-study-275080">CDC</a>) said the screening at the San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles airports would begin on Friday and focus on travellers to the United States via direct or connecting flights from Wuhan.</p>

<p>So far, the new virus has spread outside of China to Japan and Thailand, and CDC officials said in a conference call with reporters that they expect more cases will be reported outside of China. The risk to Americans is deemed to be low, the CDC said.</p>

<p>Under the screening procedures, travellers from Wuhan will be taken to a separate area in the airport, where they will complete a questionnaire and be checked for fever. The United States will begin screening efforts at three US airports to detect travellers from the central Chinese city of Wuhan who may have symptoms of a new respiratory virus that so far has killed two people and infected 45 more, public health officials said on Friday. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said the screening at the San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles airports would begin on Friday and focus on travellers to the United States via direct or connecting flights from Wuhan. So far, the new virus has spread outside of China to Japan and Thailand, and CDC officials said in a conference call with reporters that they expect more cases will be reported outside of China. The risk to Americans is deemed to be low, the CDC said. Health screenings of travelers arriving from #Wuhan, China is part of a layered approach used with other public health measures already in place to slow and reduce possible spread of #2019nCOV into the United States. https://t.co/Ovg4CTFJWf — CDC (@CDCgov) January 17, 2020 × Dr. Martin Cetron, director of the CDC's Division of Global Migration and Quarantine, said the CDC will be sending about 100 additional staff to the three airports, Los Angeles International, San Francisco International, and New York's John F. Kennedy International to supplement existing staff at quarantine stations located at those airports. Under the screening procedures, travellers from Wuhan will be taken to a separate area in the airport, where they will complete a questionnaire and be checked for fever. Those with symptoms will be asked additional health and exposure-related questions and those needing more follow-up will be referred to a designated healthcare facility for more testing. The CDC said it may adjust screening procedures as the outbreak investigation continues. The Chinese virus is a coronavirus, a large family of viruses that can cause infections ranging from the common cold to severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, a highly infectious virus that originated in China in 2002 and eventually traveled to 37 countries, killing 774 people. So far, health officials do not consider the new virus from China to be as lethal as SARS, but the investigation is evolving and much is still not known about whether the virus can spread easily from person to person. <p>A <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/arrests-ordered-in-philippines-vaping-ban-263361">Philippine</a> Airlines flight bound for Manila suffered an apparent engine failure on Thursday shortly after takeoff from Los Angeles and made an emergency landing, authorities said.</p>

<p>All 347 passengers and 18 crew aboard Flight 113, a Boeing Co 777 widebody, are safe, an airline spokeswoman said.</p>

<p>Pilots of flight 113&nbsp;declared an emergency and reported a possible engine failure, Los Angeles International Airport said. A witness on the ground described "bursts of flames" coming out of an engine.</p>

<p>The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration said the plane returned and landed safely. Television station ABC-7 in Los Angeles aired video of the aircraft after takeoff that showed flames and smoke coming out of the right engine.</p>

<p>The plane landed around noon local time&nbsp;and was met by the Los Angeles Fire Department, the airport said. The emergency landing did not affect other flights.</p>

<p>Although the cause of the apparent engine failure was not immediately clear, it comes as Boeing faces intense scrutiny over twin deadly crashes involving its 737 MAX single-aisle jetliner. The 737 MAX has been grounded worldwide since March.</p>

<p>GE Aviation, a subsidiary of General Electric, which makes the GE90 engine for the 777 twin-aisle jetliners, said it was aware of the incident and was "working with the airline to determine the cause of the event and to promptly return the aircraft to service."</p>

<p>Boeing did not immediately respond to requests for comment.</p>

<p>"You saw bursts of flames, little flames shooting out from the engine," said Andrew Ames, a 36-year-old fitness professional in Los Angeles, who watched as the 777 ascended over the ocean after takeoff. "It almost looked like backfire flames from a motorcycle or car."</p>

<p>"I had never seen a plane spew flames repeatedly. Then it stopped. As soon as it stopped, I saw the plane bank left, like it was heading back to the airport," Ames said.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/want-to-ban-toxic-vaping-philippines-president-duterte-263244">Philippine</a> Airlines spokeswoman said the flight crew noticed smoke in the plane's second engine, declared an emergency and returned safely to the airport.</p>

<p>"All passengers are safe and sound," spokeswoman Cielo Villaluna said. "They are all being assisted to another flight."</p>

The plane landed around noon local time and was met by the Los Angeles Fire Department, the airport said. The emergency landing did not affect other flights. Although the cause of the apparent engine failure was not immediately clear, it comes as Boeing faces intense scrutiny over twin deadly crashes involving its 737 MAX single-aisle jetliner. The 737 MAX has been grounded worldwide since March. GE Aviation, a subsidiary of General Electric, which makes the GE90 engine for the 777 twin-aisle jetliners, said it was aware of the incident and was "working with the airline to determine the cause of the event and to promptly return the aircraft to service." Boeing did not immediately respond to requests for comment. "You saw bursts of flames, little flames shooting out from the engine," said Andrew Ames, a 36-year-old fitness professional in Los Angeles, who watched as the 777 ascended over the ocean after takeoff. "It almost looked like backfire flames from a motorcycle or car." "I had never seen a plane spew flames repeatedly. Then it stopped. As soon as it stopped, I saw the plane bank left, like it was heading back to the airport," Ames said. The Philippine Airlines spokeswoman said the flight crew noticed smoke in the plane's second engine, declared an emergency and returned safely to the airport. "All passengers are safe and sound," spokeswoman Cielo Villaluna said. "They are all being assisted to another flight."

<p>After two months, Rebecca Broxterman who was in the vehicle with Kevin Hart, during his brutal car accident, spoke about the incident on social media on Thursday.<br />
<br />
"Grateful and blessed," she wrote alongside photos of her fiance Jared Black, who was also involved in the accident, recovering in the hospital. "September 1, 2019, was the scariest day of my life. Broxterman went on to add, "God was definitely watching over us that night and protecting us. Thank you, Lord, for wrapping your loving arms around us in our time of need," she wrote on Instagram.<br />
<br />
She added what she wrote just weeks after the accident. "First of all, I want you all to know that ultimately, all 3 of us in the car wreck are alive and recovering and that's what matters the most! It is going to be a long road to recovery but we have the best support team," she wrote with the date September 17, 2019.</p>

Kevin Hart's friend involved in car crash breaks silence 2 months after the accident

<p>Just 16 seconds passed from the time a California high school student pulled a .45 semi-automatic pistol from his backpack in an outdoor school courtyard and emptied the weapon, killing two classmates and wounding three more, before shooting himself in the head and collapsing.</p>

<p>Police investigating the Thursday morning shooting at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, about 40 miles (65 km) north of Los Angeles, said they did not yet know the motive.</p>

<p>The shooter's name was not released by police, who said it was his 16th birthday. He saved his last bullet for himself, and was in grave condition at a hospital, authorities said.</p>

<p>Early on Friday, two girls aged 14 and 15 were being treated at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, California and were listed in good and fair condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.</p>

<p>At the Henry Mayo Hospital in Santa Clarita, authorities said a 14-year-old male was treated and released, and the other students died.</p>

<p>No names of the wounded or the dead were released early on Friday, but the two slain students were a 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy.</p>

<p>Captain Kent Wegener of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said surveillance video footage showed the suspect opening fire from a single stationary position, shooting his victims in rapid succession before turning the gun on himself.</p>

<p>The scene at Saugus High School was reminiscent of other mass shootings at U.S. schools, including Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where a former student with an assault gun killed 17 people on Feb. 14, 2018.</p>

<p>It was the 85th incident of gunfire at a school this year, according to Everytown, a gun control advocacy group.</p>

<p>Police said the accused shooter had acted alone. Investigators descended on his family home, blocking off the street. They found no further danger there.</p>

<p>A next-door neighbour, registered nurse Jared Axen, said the suspect had seemed introverted and sad, possibly despondent over the loss of his father from a heart attack in December 2017.</p>

<p>"I would say he (the boy) was hurting and couldn’t ask for help," Axen said of the suspect, who was a track athlete at the school, involved in Boy Scouts and liked the outdoors, going on hunting trips with his father.</p>

<p>There was no immediate word on where the suspect obtained the weapon.</p>

Police investigating the Thursday morning shooting at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, about 40 miles (65 km) north of Los Angeles, said they did not yet know the motive. The shooter's name was not released by police, who said it was his 16th birthday. He saved his last bullet for himself, and was in grave condition at a hospital, authorities said. Early on Friday, two girls aged 14 and 15 were being treated at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, California and were listed in good and fair condition, a hospital spokeswoman said. At the Henry Mayo Hospital in Santa Clarita, authorities said a 14-year-old male was treated and released, and the other students died. No names of the wounded or the dead were released early on Friday, but the two slain students were a 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy. Captain Kent Wegener of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said surveillance video footage showed the suspect opening fire from a single stationary position, shooting his victims in rapid succession before turning the gun on himself. The scene at Saugus High School was reminiscent of other mass shootings at U.S. schools, including Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where a former student with an assault gun killed 17 people on Feb. 14, 2018. It was the 85th incident of gunfire at a school this year, according to Everytown, a gun control advocacy group. Police said the accused shooter had acted alone. Investigators descended on his family home, blocking off the street. They found no further danger there. A next-door neighbour, registered nurse Jared Axen, said the suspect had seemed introverted and sad, possibly despondent over the loss of his father from a heart attack in December 2017. "I would say he (the boy) was hurting and couldn’t ask for help," Axen said of the suspect, who was a track athlete at the school, involved in Boy Scouts and liked the outdoors, going on hunting trips with his father. There was no immediate word on where the suspect obtained the weapon.
