Undeterred, Konsa got the lead nine minutes into the second half as he headed home John McGinn`s corner from a tight angle at the back post.

The goal was the 10th that Leicester have conceded from a set piece this season, excluding penalties.

McGinn's pinpoint set pieces and incisive passing created plenty of opportunities in the second half for Villa, with Ollie Watkins denied by Schmeichel in the 67th minute and Jacob Ramsey spurning another chance four minutes later.

Jamie Vardy came off the bench to give Leicester`s attack a shot in the arm but it was Harvey Barnes who came closest to getting an equaliser for the visitors, forcing a brilliant save from Emiliano Martinez in the 75th minute.

Leicester have little time to bask in the glory of winning the FA Cup for the first time as they face Chelsea again on Tuesday in a Premier League clash of huge significance for who makes next season's Champions League.

"We knew we didn't have any favours in the fixtures," said Rodgers on Monday.

Despite the disappointment of missing out on his first trophy in English football, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel did not shy away from suggestions that Tuesday's clash is more important than the cup final in the context his side's season.

"When I stepped into this club the task was let's try everything to be in the top four, not let's try everything to win the FA Cup," said Tuchel.

"Because the FA Cup, as big as it is, does not bring you to Champions League football next season. It's top four that brings us there. Tomorrow is another huge game."

Chelsea's strength in depth could prove vital given the quick turnaround from Wembley's energy sapping clash in front of 22,000 fans.

Tuchel's men were the dominant side on Saturday after he introduced Kai Havertz, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ben Chilwell, Christian Pulisic and Olivier Giroud off the bench in the second-half and the German is likely to make a number of changes.

Sacked Leicester City boss Claude Puel hailed the club's late chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and said he was privileged to have worked under him at the 2016 Premier League champions.

Sacked Leicester City boss Claude Puel hailed the club's late chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and said he was privileged to have worked under him at the 2016 Premier League champions. Leicester dismissed Puel on Sunday with the club 12th in the league on 32 points having lost five of their last six games, including a 4-1 hammering at home by Crystal Palace on Saturday that sealed Frenchman Puel's fate. First-team coach Mike Stowell insisted Leicester's players did not let down Puel in his final few games, despite rumours of an unsettled dressing room, and the team`s poor results were due to individual mistakes. Stowell, along with fellow first team coach Adam Sadler, has been asked to oversee the squad starting with Tuesday`s league clash against Brighton & Hove Albion and the 53-year-old gave his backing to the squad. "The players have not let him down at all. The results are poor but performances have been good," Stowell told reporters. "You get mistakes, they're not deliberate, they're just mistakes. This is a good young, bright team. "Claude has an excellent record of bringing youth players through. Young players like Harvey Barnes and Hamza (Choudhury) have been given opportunities." Puel had come under criticism with Manchester United great Peter Schmeichel, the father of Leicester goalkeeper Kasper, earlier this month saying he was not getting the best out of his players. Puel, who took charge of the club in October 2017, also denied a rift with striker Jamie Vardy following their defeat by United this month. "Every manager has a different personality, what you got with Claude was what you saw. But his coaching and football knowledge was excellent," Stowell added. "It's good that the game has come so quick, and that`s good after a defeat you don't want a long week. We're keeping things bright and getting the players feeling good about themselves." Meanwhile, British media said former England manager Sam Allardyc, as well as ex-Celtic boss and former Leicester player Neil Lennonn, were among those in the running for the vacant job.

Leicester City Sunday sacked Claude Puel as manager following four successive home defeats in the Premier League.&nbsp;

City lost 4-1 at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday in what proved to be Puel's final game after 16 months in charge. He took over the reins in October 2017, replacing Craig Shakespeare.

It is the first time, since January 2000, that City has lost four home games and conceded the first goal in 19 Premier League matches this season - more than any other side.
