As per Lord Parkinson, the ban would not apply to broadcasters.

The proposed ban will refer proposed media mergers involving foreign states to the Competition and Markets Authority for investigation, with the Secretary of State required to block or unwind any merger resulting in foreign state ownership, influence, or control, he explained.

The move comes as RedBird IMI continues its efforts to take control of the Daily and Sunday Telegraph newspaper titles and Spectator magazine. The fund, largely owned by Sheikh Mansour of the UAE, faced growing political opposition.

Reacting to the government's decision, a spokesperson for RedBird IMI said they were "extremely disappointed by today's development" and stated they "remain committed" to investing in global media.

However, the company's bid for the newspapers looks likely to fail, reported BBC citing sources close to the matter.

In a coordinated operation on Wednesday night (Mar 6), the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and local police apprehended three terrorists near Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail where Pakistan's former prime minister Imran Khan is serving a 14-year sentence.

The arrested individuals, who reportedly hail from Afghanistan, were allegedly going to carry out terrorist attack in the area.

The police, as per an Associated Press of Pakistan report, recovered explosives and a map of the high-security jail from the terrorists.

The Geophysical Institute has advised tourists to stay away if any lava enters the sea.

"Gas emission and thermal anomalies were detected through satellite systems," said the ministry in a statement. It added that while they would continue to monitor the volcano, the eruption is not expected to affect tourism on the islands.

It said that La Cumbre blew a gas cloud about three kilometres into the air, which was dispersed by the wind without passing over other islands with human settlements, such as the neighbouring Isabela.

La Cumbre has previously erupted three times — in 2017, 2018 and 2020. It stands 1,463 metres (4,799.87 feet) high and has the highest eruption rate among all the volcanoes in the archipelago.&nbsp;

This eruption was likely bigger than those previously registered, authorities said.

Even though doctors knew obesity numbers were on a fast rise, a rise past one billion&nbsp;wasn't expected until 2030.

To reach their estimates, as per the Lancet, experts analysed the weight and height measurements of more than 220 million people in more than 190 countries. They found that an estimated 504 million adult women, 374 million men, and 159 million children were obese in 2022.&nbsp;

Compared to 1990, this is a more than triple increase among men, and double for women, while for children this was a five times increase (up from 31 million).

Experts blame bad eating habits for it, and say "very rapid transformation of the food systems is not for the better".

WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, "This new study highlights the importance of preventing and managing obesity from early life to adulthood, through diet, physical activity, and adequate care, as needed."

Obesity is a chronic and complex illness that comes with a greater risk of death from heart disease, diabetes and certain cancers, and even a higher risk of death from coronavirus.

The company is subject to strict regulation by the Israeli ministry of defence, which must approve all sales of its licences to foreign governments.

Despite NSO's plea to be excused from its discovery obligations due to "various US and Israeli restrictions," Judge Phyllis Hamilton ruled in favour of WhatsApp. She ordered NSO to produce "all relevant spyware" from the period one year before and after the alleged attacks on WhatsApp users, from 29 April 2018 to 10 May 2020.&nbsp;

Additionally, NSO is also required to provide WhatsApp with information "concerning the full functionality of the relevant spyware."

However, Judge Hamilton ruled in NSO's favour on one issue: the company will not have to disclose its clients' names or information about its server architecture.

Since its rediscovery, the tree has been grown in botanical gardens and private spaces around the world. Now, the tree saviours—the Wollemi Pine Recovery Team, which is a partnership between Australian government scientists and conservationists, has begun the process to reintroduce Wollemi pine seedlings to three sites in Wollemi National Park.

"The sites comprise high-elevation sandstone gorges that are sufficiently deep, narrow and steep-sided to provide refugia from frequent, intense wildfires and drought," said a representative of the Wollemi Pine Recovery Team, in a statement emailed to Live Science.&nbsp;

The committee, as per a Japan Times report, identified 99 acts, including patting the heads and buttocks of female staff members.

The third-party committee on Tuesday (Feb 27) published its report on the various sexual harassment complaints against Kojima.&nbsp;

It identified 99 acts of harassment, including touching their heads or buttocks, forcing them to lift their skirts and exposing his chest and legs to them. The report also makes mention of sexual comments and behaviour it deems "inappropriate" for a town mayor.

The report was based on the survey of 161 of the 193 employees working under Kojima—80 men and 81 women.&nbsp;

58 per cent of women and 53.7 per cent of men said that the mayor made them feel uncomfortable. 85 per cent of men and 81.4 per cent of women said they had seen him sexually harassing and/or verbally abusing members of the staff.

These findings, as per the report, point to no other alternative but Kojima's immediate resignation.

<h2>Mayor alleges 'bias'</h2>

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, 74-year-old Kojima, who was elected in&nbsp;November 2020 and was serving his first term,&nbsp;refuted the committee's report and called it "biased".

"I think the report of this investigation committee lacks neutrality. It is biased. I think it would have been better if there had been more careful explanations in the investigation."

"After receiving phone calls from townspeople and seeing news reports, I decided it was time to move on," he added.

The resignation is yet to be finalised and needs the consent of the town assembly, which will meet on Friday (March 1). If finalised, the mayoral election is expected to be held by the end of April.

Lewinsky can be seen modelling a leather trench coat, a bright red two-piece outfit, sweaters and other workplace attire in the campaign.

Veteran political consultant Steve Kramer has admitted to commissioning a robocall that impersonated President Joe Biden using artificial intelligence (AI). The call, which appealed to&nbsp;New Hampshire&nbsp;voters&nbsp;to not vote in the presidential primary&nbsp;and save their votes for the general elections to be held in November,&nbsp;sparked investigations and backlash from election officials and watchdogs.

Not just the US, in the UK as well there is concern over AI-generated content. Recently, voicing concern over AI generated deepfakes, James Cleverly, the UK home secretary during a recent interview, warned that criminals and "malign actors" working on behalf of malicious states like Russia and Iran could these to hijack the general election.

Speaking to the Times, he said that "The era of deepfake and AI-generated content to mislead and disrupt is already in play".

<h2>A revolutionary hero?</h2>

In a conversation with NBC News, Kramer, who was reportedly working for a rival Biden candidate, expressed no remorse for the deepfake call. Instead, he compared himself to American Revolutionary heroes Paul Revere and Thomas Paine and claimed that he had planned the call as an act of civil disobedience to highlight the dangers of AI in politics.&nbsp;

"This is a way for me to make a difference, and I have," he said, adding "For $500, I got about $5 million worth of action, whether that be media attention or regulatory action."

The call, made to over 5,000 New Hampshire voters, was reportedly part of Kramer's strategy to draw attention to AI's potential misuse in politics. He acknowledged facing potential legal consequences but said he remained committed to working in politics.

As per the report, he said he has received a subpoena from the Federal Communications Commission, and said he suspected that he might get sued by a half-dozen people and could even face jail time.

Kramer's admission comes after NBC News linked him to the fake Biden robocall. He revealed that he also commissioned an earlier deepfake robocall impersonating Senator Lindsey Graham as a test, which received a significantly higher response rate than an automated call.

Due to the diversion, a replacement plane completed the journey, and the flight was delayed by about 3.5 hours.

On Tuesday, a Reddit user aboard the flight also shared pictures of the damage on the social media platform, asking people "How panicked should I be? Do I need to tell a flight crew member?".

"Siwal was offered money in exchange for information through her contacts," said an Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) officer, as reported by The Times Of India.

ATS officers discovered multiple payments from unidentified sources in Siwal's Indian bank account in Moscow, which he couldn't explain.

Quoting ATS sources, the publication reported that ISI operatives have been trying to lure Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) employees with financial incentives for sensitive information.

A 39-year-old man has become the first person in England and Wales to be convicted of cyber flashing. The man, a resident of Essex, has been convicted under the Online Safety Act for sending unsolicited images of his exposed male genitalia to a teenage girl and a woman.&nbsp;

Nicholas Hawkes was arrested after screenshots of his unsolicited images were shared with the police. The woman, as per media reports, had taken screenshots of the WhatsApp image and shared them with the Essex Police.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) revealed that the images were sent on February 9th and a complaint was registered the same day.

Hawkes had also sent pictures of his genitalia to a 15-year-old girl.

On Monday, at the Southend magistrate's court, he admitted to two counts of sending a photograph or film of genitals to cause alarm, distress, or humiliation.

Talking to the press, Sefer Mani of CPS East of England called cyber flashing a "grotesque crime".&nbsp;He said that the "fact we were able to deliver swift justice for the two victims shows the new law is working."

"Everyone should feel safe wherever they are and not be subjected to receiving unwanted sexual images," added Mani.

The CPS officer also urged victims of cyber flashing to come forward and report it to the police.

"I urge anyone who feels they have been a victim of cyber flashing to report it to the police and know that they will be taken seriously and have their identities protected," he said.

A main aspect of such messages is the lack of the recipient's consent. It can be distressing and traumatic for those at the receiving end, and the sexually explicit images can cause emotional harm. It constitutes a violation of privacy.

<h2>UK's Online Safety Act</h2>

In January 2024, the United Kingdom made into law the Online Safety Act, under which a variety of online crimes are included, among them being cyber flashing.

In England and Wales, cyber flashing became a crime starting on January 31st. As per SkyNews, it has been a crime in Scotland since 2010.

As per CNN, the real Suharto was known for his perpetual grin that despite his authoritarian governance earned him the affectionate nickname "Smiling General". He passed away in 2008 at the age of 86.

Erwin Aksa, deputy chairman of Golkar, one of Indonesia's prominent political parties, shared the video with the message that when translated to English reads: "The hopes and struggles of the Indonesian people will never be extinguished, they will always be realised in every generation. Indonesia's dreams will always come true. On February 14, 2024, we will determine the fate of the Indonesian nation. We must elect the right people's representatives and leaders for Indonesia, for all Indonesian people."
