Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden said on Monday that the vote of Hindu Americans will be an essential part of Democrats' electoral success.

Both US President Donald Trump and Joe Biden have been trying to woo the Hindu American community to garner votes in the November 3 presidential election.

Biden has chosen Indian origin California Senator Kamala Harris to be his running mate. If Joe Biden is elected in November, Harris will be the first female, the first non-white candidate and first Asian-American vice-president.

Hindu Americans who support Biden's campaign organised an event called 'Dharma of Voting' to emphasize that his administration will always work to have a constructive and positive relationship with India based on trust and conversation.

''Conversations will happen with a sense of regard and respect,'' Biswal said during the virtual event that featured high-ranking Obama-Biden administration alumni including Arun Kumar, former assistant secretary of commerce and Nishit Acharya, former director of innovation and entrepreneurship.

The panel also included Anu Natarajan, former vice mayor of Fremont, California, the first Hindu American elected to the Fremont city council and Aminta Kilawan-Naraine, a nationally recognised Caribbean Hindu leader and activist who founded the South Queens Women's March in New York.

During the event, the speakers touched on the centrality of their Hindu identity, and how following their dharma, the quest for righteousness through selfless duty, led them to public service.

They also made impassioned pitches to fellow Hindu Americans to support the Biden-Harris ticket.

''Hindus participate in a quest for truth. The Biden administration will be committed to that quest,'' said Kumar, now chairman and CEO of KPMG India.

Natarajan discussed the Hindu American and Indian American communities' impact on election results. Kilawan-Narine noted that Biden's connection to his faith resonates with many Hindu Americans.

Dr Murali Balaji, co-chair of Hindu Americans for Biden, noted that the Trump administration's actions against Hindu Americans contradicted his boasts of being a ''big fan of Hindus,'' as he once claimed in 2016.

''This administration has conducted raids against our Caribbean Hindu brothers and sisters, limited refugee opportunities for Hindus escaping religious persecution, capped immigration for Hindus coming from abroad, and revoked temporary protected status for nearly 10,000 Nepali Hindus displaced by the 2015 Nepal earthquake,'' he alleged.

Hindu Americans are absolutely one of the most critical voting blocs in this year's election, said Neha Dewan, national director for South Asians for Biden.

''As highlighted at the event, the Biden-Harris ticket has a deep and long-standing relationship with the Hindu American community, and is actively listening to their voices and working to earn their votes,'' she said.

Indian-American Congressman from Illinois, Raja Krishnamoorthi had previously organised an event called "Hindus for Biden" in the beginning of this month.

US election 2020: Biden tries to woo Hindu American community

Donald Trump and his rival for the US presidency, Joe Biden, will campaign in two election battlegrounds on Monday as they spar over the president's plan to fill a vacant Supreme Court seat with only weeks before voters choose between them.

Trump, the Republican seeking re-election on November 3, will hold campaign events in Ohio, a state some Democrats once saw as a lock for Trump, while the Democratic former vice president makes his second trip of the month to Wisconsin.

Both Trump and Biden are reckoning with a presidential contest that was upended by Friday's death of the liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Trump's intention to appoint a replacement before the election, which would cement a 6-3 conservative majority, has angered Democrats and shifted the election's focus away from the coronavirus pandemic that has killed nearly 200,000 Americans and thrown millions more out of work.

Biden said the winner of the election should pick the person who fills Ginsburg's seat in a speech on Sunday. He called Trump's planned appointment an "exercise of raw political power" after Republican senators refused to consider Democratic President Barack Obama's nominee in 2016, citing that year's presidential election.

In an interview on Monday, Trump said he will name his choice to replace Ginsburg by Friday or Saturday.

Biden is headed to Wisconsin for the second time this month in a sign of the state's importance to the upcoming election. In his last visit, Biden went to Kenosha and spoke with Jacob Blake, the Black man whose shooting by police prompted widespread unrest.

This time, Biden will visit largely white Manitowoc County, which supported the former vice president and President Barack Obama when they ran as the Democratic ticket in 2008. The county backed Trump in 2016, helping deliver the state to a Republican presidential candidate for the first time since 1984.

Biden's campaign has made targeting such "flip" voters a priority, and it also hopes Biden will deliver a larger share of white voters than Democrat Hillary Clinton did in 2016.

Trump's campaign has made holding the state a prime concern after his 2016 victory by less than 1 per cent of the vote. Trump visited Wisconsin last week, announcing a new round of coronavirus pandemic assistance to farmers of about $13 billion.

State polling averages show Biden with a lead of several points in Wisconsin but trailing Trump slightly in Ohio, where the president was scheduled to campaign on Monday.

Trump is expected to speak about "fighting for the American worker," with a focus on the economic themes that dominated his re-election pitch prior to Ginsburg's death, before attending a rally.

Earlier in the race, many Democrats had privately written off a win in Ohio, seeing it as firmly in Trump's grasp. But Biden's campaign is now pursuing wins in an expanded set of states.

On Monday, Biden's campaign said it would add Georgia and Iowa to a list of 10 other states where it is running paid advertisements. Meanwhile, campaign finance filings on Sunday showed the national Republican Party transferred $1.3 million in August to the coffers of the state party in Texas, a long-time Republican stronghold that Democrats also hope to make competitive.

US election 2020: Trump and Biden hit the campaign trail as Supreme Court battle looms

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden ramped up pressure on the incumbent US president, Donald Trump, to not push for a Supreme Court nominee before the presidential election in November.

Biden was speaking on Sunday, the day a second Senate Republican voiced objections to Trump's plan for a quick vote on a replacement to liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died on Friday.

Biden urged Senate Republicans to not vote on any candidate nominated to the US Supreme Court as the election nears, calling Trump's plan an "exercise of raw political power."

Such an appointment by the president, if approved by the Senate, would cement a 6-3 conservative majority that could influence American law and life for decades.

"Voters of this country should be heard ... they're the ones who this Constitution envisions should decide who has the power to make this appointment," Biden, who leads Trump in national opinion polls, said in Philadelphia. "To jam this nomination through the Senate is just an exercise of raw political power."

Biden said that if he wins the November 3 election, he should have the chance to nominate the next Supreme Court justice.

The former vice president rejected the idea of releasing the names of potential nominees, saying that doing so, as Trump did, could improperly influence those candidates' decisions in their current court roles as well as subject them to "unrelenting political attacks."

He reiterated his pledge to nominate an African-American woman to the court, which would be a historic first, if he has the opportunity.

Earlier on Sunday, Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska said she did not support Trump's plan to move fast on filling the seat, becoming the second of the 53 Republicans in the 100-seat chamber to object publicly following Ginsburg's death.

On Saturday, Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine said the presidential election winner should pick the nominee. She is locked in a tight re-election battle, while Murkowski's current term extends two more years.

Senator Lamar Alexander, another moderate Republican, said in a statement he did not object to a vote, adding: "No one should be surprised that a Republican Senate majority would vote on a Republican president’s Supreme Court nomination, even during a presidential election year."

Democrats noted that in 2016 Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked a vote on a Democratic appointee on the grounds that the vacancy should be filled by the next president.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer did not rule out that his party might move in future to end the filibuster, a procedural tactic under which the support of 60 members is required to move to a vote on legislation, if the Republicans went ahead with the nomination.

Trump said on Saturday he would make his nomination this week and named Amy Coney Barrett of the Chicago-based 7th US Circuit Court of Appeals and Barbara Lagoa of the Atlanta-based 11th Circuit as possible candidates to fill the vacancy created by Ginsburg, a revered figure among liberals.

Ginsburg's death upended the November election campaign, energizing both Trump's conservative base - eager to see the court overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that legalised abortion nationwide - and presenting new complications in the battle for control of the US Senate.

Trump has already appointed two justices: Neil Gorsuch in 2017 and Brett Kavanaugh in 2018. Kavanaugh was narrowly confirmed after a heated confirmation process in which he angrily denied accusations by a California university professor, Christine Blasey Ford, that he had sexually assaulted her in 1982 when the two were high school students in Maryland.

Biden blasts Trump's push for selecting a Supreme Court nominee before election

The opponents of the upcoming US presidential election -- Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden -- are fighting it off on the social media as much as they are doing it off it.

While it's all about strategies and tragedies at arenas and rallies, on the social media Biden and Trump turn all funny and witty.

Sample this -- Biden had a quirky take on a viral byte of Trump's. The incumbent US president went sad and explained how he would not be able to speak to the Americans if a certain 'Joe Biden beat him in the election'.

Biden quoted this video clip, and tweeted he was the person Trump referred to in the clip. And he approved the (kind-of) 'farewell' message.

Can we say we approve of this humour?

This is not the first time Biden has taken to an off-centre way to attract his audience's attention.

Last week, Joe Biden turned to music to gather support among Latinos as he made his first trip to Florida on the campaign trail. He played ‘Despacito’ on his phone in a bid to connect to Hispanic voters. The said video took social media by storm and even made him a subject of Trump’s jibe.

At a campaign event in Kissimmee, he said, “I just have one thing to say.”

Then, he looked down at his phone and played, “Hang on here.”

His name is Joe Biden. And he totally approves Trump's 'message'

US President Donald Trump complimented the Taliban for being tough and smart, and said the United States was dealing well with the Afghan militant group.

In a news conference on Friday, Trump also said he expects to have available enough doses of a coronavirus vaccine for every American by April.

CORONAVIRUS VACCINE

Trump said distribution of a vaccine will begin within 24 hours of it being approved by federal health regulators.

"In a short time we'll have a safe and effective vaccine and we'll defeat the virus," Trump said.

He has previously said a vaccine could be approved in October, an ambitious timeline that some experts have said is unlikely to be met.

'SMART' TALIBAN

Regarding the Taliban, who began peace negotiations with the Afghan government this week to end two decades of war, Trump said, "We're dealing very well with the Taliban. They're very tough, they're very smart, they're very sharp, but you know it's been 19 years and even they are tired of fighting, in all fairness."

In a news conference on Friday, Trump also said he expects to have available enough doses of a coronavirus vaccine for every American by April. CORONAVIRUS VACCINE Trump said distribution of a vaccine will begin within 24 hours of it being approved by federal health regulators. "In a short time we'll have a safe and effective vaccine and we'll defeat the virus," Trump said. He has previously said a vaccine could be approved in October, an ambitious timeline that some experts have said is unlikely to be met. 'SMART' TALIBAN Regarding the Taliban, who began peace negotiations with the Afghan government this week to end two decades of war, Trump said, "We're dealing very well with the Taliban. They're very tough, they're very smart, they're very sharp, but you know it's been 19 years and even they are tired of fighting, in all fairness." Taliban, coronavirus vaccine and US-Canada row: What Trump said in his latest briefing

US President Donald Trump & his challenger Joe Biden made dueling trips to the battle ground state of Minnesota on Friday. After staying endorse for most of the year democrat nominee Joe Biden is now hitting the hitting the campaign trail.

Trump seeks rural votes in battleground of Minnesota

US Election 2020: Donald Trump, Joe Biden make dueling trips to Minnesota battle ground

Early voting in four US states -- Minnesota, Virginia, South Dakota and Wyoming -- got underway on Friday even as recent opinion polls gave democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden a comfortable lead over President Donald Trump in Minnesota. The poll-tracking website RealClearPolitics showed Biden up by an average of 10.2 percentage points as of Friday.

Trump trails Biden in national opinion polls ahead of the November 3 election, but is trying to make up ground in Minnesota, a state he lost by about 1.5 percentage points to Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016.

On Friday, the two rivals campaigned in the election battleground state of Minnesota. Biden criticised Trump's handling of the economy.

Biden toured a union carpenter training centre in Hermantown, a suburb of the Lake Superior port city of Duluth, and painted a grim picture of the economic situation in Minnesota's iron ore mining region, saying the coronavirus pandemic has driven up joblessness.

The former US vice president blamed Trump for the sustained economic downturn, saying the Republican president has done little to contain the public health crisis.

Biden repeated a pledge to invest $2 trillion on US infrastructure improvements while tackling climate change. Biden also said he would make sure all federal projects use American-made materials and union labour.

Trump keeps promising an infrastructure plan, but one never materialises, Biden said.
"He has no plan," Biden added.

Trump spoke to thousands of people gathered outside an airport hangar in Bemidji, Minnesota, on Friday evening.

He would win Minnesota thanks to his economic record, Trump said, pointing to the strength of Minnesota's economy in 2019, before the coronavirus struck.

Trump also attacked what he said were Biden's policies on refugees. "Good luck, Minnesota," he said. "Your state will be overrun and destroyed if Biden and the radical left win."

The two candidates were in Minnesota on the first day of early voting in the state, a reminder that voting in the election already has begun as voters opt to cast ballots early or by mail during the pandemic.

In Virginia, elections officials in Fairfax and Arlington counties in the Washington suburbs reported heavy turnout, with lines out the door.

In Minneapolis, some 44 people cast ballots in the first 30 minutes that the city`s lone polling center was open. Some said they were anxious to get an early jump on the process, or to avoid potential crowds on Election Day.

The pandemic has sharply curtailed both candidates' campaign travel and is expected to bring a surge of early and mail voting as Americans seek to reduce their exposure to crowds.

Trump has been criticised for holding crowded campaign rallies, often with many people not wearing masks.

Biden's polling advantage underscores the extent to which the current electoral map appears to favor him. He leads in all three former industrial "Rust Belt" states that Trump flipped from the Democratic column on his way to victory in 2016: Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

Minnesota was the flashpoint for a national reckoning on race relations, when George Floyd, a Black man, died after a white Minneapolis policeman kneeled on his neck for about nine minutes even after he appeared to lose consciousness.

Floyd's death sparked protests against racism and police brutality in many cities, with civil unrest lasting in some places for months, and further rattled a nation already besieged by the coronavirus pandemic, which has killed nearly 200,000 Americans and thrown millions of people out of work.

Trump has responded to the demonstrations by vowing to establish "law and order" while broadly portraying protesters as far-left radicals who would be further empowered by a Biden victory.

Biden has denounced the violence that has flared in some cities while expressing support for the protesters' objections to racism and police brutality. Biden has blamed Trump's divisive rhetoric for inflaming the situation.

Early voting begins in four US states; Biden challenges Trump on economy

Republican President Donald Trump takes his re-election campaign to the political swing state of North Carolina on Saturday in an effort to boost his poll numbers against Democratic rival Joe Biden and shore up support among military members there.

Trump has boasted about revitalizing the U.S. armed forces with increased defense budgets but has seen his political support slip among troops.

A poll in the Military Times last month found a "slight but significant" preference among active duty military members for Biden, the former vice president, and a decline in favorability for Trump.

North Carolina has a number of military bases, and the president`s rally in Fayetteville is near Fort Bragg, a large base with tens of thousands of personnel.

An average of polls by RealClearPolitics shows a tight race between Trump and Biden in North Carolina, with Biden holding a slight lead.

The president has had a mixed relationship with military leaders. He described John McCain, a senator and Vietnam War veteran who is now deceased, in derogatory terms and has had to deny reporting in the Atlantic magazine that he referred to U.S. war dead as "losers" and "suckers."

Biden has sought to capitalize on that vulnerability. His campaign said on Friday it was releasing an ad directed at military families to be aired in swing states including Arizona, Florida, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Wisconsin.

"President Trump has been a consistent champion of America`s service members and veterans and has succeeded at rebuilding our military, reforming the Department of Veterans Affairs, and launching initiatives to help veterans adjust to civilian life," the campaign said in a statement on Friday after Vice President Mike Pence touted Trump`s record with the military in Arizona.

Trump has traveled repeatedly to North Carolina in recent weeks, making a stop there during the Republican National Convention and a later trip to declare the city of Wilmington a World War Two Heritage City.

Election experts in the United States fail to see any reason to expect an increase in ballot fraud in November 3 presidential election, despite President Donald Trump’s repeated expressions of doubt on the mail-in voting system.

Voting by mail is not new to the United States -- nearly 1 in 4 voters cast 2016 presidential ballots that way. Routine methods and the decentralised nature of US elections make it very hard to interfere with mailed ballots, experts say.

Mail balloting can help minimise the long lines, faulty voting machines and COVID-19-induced staffing shortages that have plagued some elections this year -- though it has its own share of drawbacks.

SECURITY GUARANTEED

Election experts say it would be nearly impossible for foreign actors to disrupt an election by mailing out fake ballots, a scenario floated by Attorney General William Barr.

For one thing, voters won’t just be selecting a president: They might be choosing candidates for city council, school board and weighing in on ballot initiatives. That can require hundreds of different ballot designs in a single county and the United States has more than 3,000 counties.

Ballots aren’t counted if they aren’t printed on the proper type of paper and don’t include specific technical markings.

States also require voters to sign the outside of their envelope, which they match to a signature on file.

Some 29 states and the District of Columbia allow voters to track their ballots to ensure they are received, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Fourteen states and DC also allow voters to return their ballots by hand if they don’t trust the mail.

Those envelopes are typically opened by a different group of workers than those who scan the ballots. Outside observers are allowed to monitor the process to ensure voter privacy.

Hence, documented cases of mail-ballot fraud are extremely rare.

The conservative Heritage Foundation, which has warned of the risks of mail voting, found 14 cases of attempted mail fraud out of roughly 15.5 million ballots cast in Oregon since that state started conducting elections by mail in 1998.

The most prominent cases of mail fraud have involved campaigns, not voters. North Carolina invalidated the results of a 2018 congressional election after state officials found that a Republican campaign operative had orchestrated a ballot fraud scheme.

Experts say those scenarios can be minimised by nixing requirements -- currently in place in 11 states -- which instruct voters to get at least one witness to sign their return envelopes.

Moreover, a Stanford University study found that participation increased by roughly 2 percentage points in three states that rolled out universal voting by mail from 1996 to 2018. It had no effect on partisan outcome and did not appear to give an advantage to any particular racial, economic or age group.

DRAWBACKS

Like any other voting method, mail balloting has its drawbacks.

States rejected 1% of returned ballots in 2016 for arriving too late, missing signatures or other problems, according to EAC figures -- though that figure was as high as 5% in some states. It can be more difficult to fix errors on mail ballots than on those cast in person, experts say.

Mail ballots can pose additional barriers to those who don’t speak English or have disabilities, and delivery can be problematic on Native American reservations, where residents sometimes don’t have street addresses.

Fraud is rare in US mail-in voting. Here's how it can be explained

US President Donald Trump has said he is planning to establish a commission to promote "patriotic education" in his country, taking issue with efforts to highlight the American history of slavery and racism.

Trump was speaking at the National Archives, which houses the US Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Declaration of Independence, on Thursday.

Trump has sought to portray himself as a "law and order" candidate in the November 3 election against rival Joe Biden and his announcement on Thursday to use an executive order to establish the commission could also be a move to appeal to his base.

In a speech rife with race-baiting and dog whistles, the President decried "left-wing mobs" and claimed their tactics were comparable to anti-American propaganda used by foreign adversaries. He also railed against people who have taken to the streets around the country this year to protest racial injustice.

Trump said "left-wing mobs" had torn down statues, desecrated memorials, and carried out a "campaign of violence and anarchy."

"Whether it is the mob on the street, or the cancel culture in the boardroom, the goal is the same: to silence dissent, to scare you out of speaking the truth, and to bully Americans into abandoning their values, their heritage, and their very way of life," he said.

"We are here today to declare that we will never submit to tyranny. We will reclaim our history and our country for citizens of every race, color, religion, and creed."

Trump is trailing Biden in national opinion polls. Biden has also condemned looting and violence that have been part of some anti-racism protests.

In his speech, the President also railed against racial sensitivity trainings and claimed that college students are "inundated" with teachings related to critical race theory.

Trump said the commission would "encourage our educators to teach our children about the miracle of American history."

"America’s founding set in motion the unstoppable chain of events that abolished slavery, secured civil rights, defeated communism and fascism, and built the most fair, equal, and prosperous nation in human history," he said.

Trump pushes 'patriotic education' in appeal to conservative base

The Biden administration, if elected to power in US after November presidential election, would place a high priority on strengthening US-India ties, his campaign has asserted.

It also said the administration would have no tolerance for terrorism in South Asia.

"We believe that India and the United States are natural partners, and if elected, our administration will place a high priority on continuing to strengthen the US-India relationship," it said in a written response to a series of questions asked by the Hindu American Political Action Committee.

The committee recently sent a series of questions to the campaigns of former vice-president Joe Biden and President Donald Trump as part of its decision-making process to endorse either of them before the November 3 presidential election.

"The Biden-Harris administration will have no tolerance for terrorism in South Asia -- cross-border or otherwise. Our administration will work to strengthen India's capabilities as a defence and counter-terrorism partner," the Biden campaign said.

"During the Obama-Biden administration, the US and India strengthened their cooperation to fight terrorism in each of our countries and across the region, and if we are elected, the Biden-Harris administration will continue and build on this effort," it said.

Biden also expressed concern about dangerous conditions for religious minorities in South Asia and elsewhere. He said if elected, his administration will renew America's commitment to standing as a beacon of hope for refugees around the world, including those fleeing religious persecution and seeking the freedom to worship as they choose.

He noted that the US is fundamentally a nation of immigrants, and said he is committed to immigration reform that provides a roadmap to citizenship for nearly 11 million undocumented immigrants -- including more than 500,000 from India.

"We will remove the uncertainty for Dreamers by reinstating the DACA programme and explore all legal options to protect their families from inhumane separation. All of this is in direct opposition to Trump's actions," the campaign said.

The Biden-Harris administration will work with the Congress to increase the number of visas awarded for permanent, employment-based immigration -- and promote mechanisms to temporarily reduce the number of visas during times of high US unemployment, it said.

"We will also exempt from any cap recent graduates of PhD programmes in STEM fields in the US... We believe that foreign graduates of a US doctoral programme should be given a green card with their degree and that losing these highly trained workers to foreign economies is a disservice to our own economic competitiveness," it said.

Ajay Bhutoria, national finance committee member of Biden campaign, said in a statement that the Biden-Harris administration will celebrate Hindu holidays, as was done in the Obama-Biden administration, which celebrated Diwali at the White House, the Vice President's residence at the Naval Observatory, and at the Pentagon.

This election year Biden recognised Holi and Ganesh Chaturthi.

Bhutoria said the Biden campaign made history in its outreach to the Hindu-American community. "Biden became the first major-party presidential nominee to respond to a questionnaire for the Hindu-American community," he said.

Biden's a response to real concerns in the community, addressing the unique challenges facing Hindu students to the importance of reforming the immigration system to how to help small businesses recover from COVID-19, Bhutoria said.

Biden admin to place US-India ties on 'high priority', his campaign says

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Christopher Wray told US Congress that Russia was interfering in US Presidential Elections and was releasing steady stream of misinformation that aimed Democratic Party candidate Joe Biden. He said that Russia was even making efforts to diminish Americans' confidence in the election process.

He said his biggest concern is a "steady drumbeat of misinformation" that he said he feared could undermine confidence in the result of the 2020 election.

Multiple reviews by US intelligence agencies have concluded that Russia acted to boost now-President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign and undermine his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. The Republican president has long bristled at that finding, which Russia denies.

Regarding China, Wray said that the FBI is so active in monitoring Chinese efforts to acquire U.S. technology and other sensitive information that it is opening a new counterintelligence investigation related to China "every 10 hours."

Wray said the FBI is conducting multiple investigations into violent domestic extremists following months of street protests against racism and police brutality. He said the largest "chunk" of investigations were into white supremacist groups.

Lately, Donald Trump has repeatedly and without evidence questioned the increased use of mail-in ballots, a long-established method of voting in the United States which is expected to see a surge in use due to the coronavirus. Regarding China, Wray said that the FBI is so active in monitoring Chinese efforts to acquire U.S. technology and other sensitive information that it is opening a new counterintelligence investigation related to China "every 10 hours." Wray said the FBI is conducting multiple investigations into violent domestic extremists following months of street protests against racism and police brutality. He said the largest "chunk" of investigations were into white supremacist groups. A promise is being made to deliver coronavirus vaccine as soon as possible. The vaccine has taken centre stage in the race to the White House.

However, Donald Trump and Joe Biden seem to have very little to offer. Trump has unveiled the largest, fastest and most advanced vaccine distribution plan in American History. Under this plan, Trump administration is promising to swiftly deliver the vaccine to all Americans free of cost. Trump is saying that the vaccine will be available in a matter of weeks.

"We're on track to deliver and distribute the vaccine in a very, very safe and effective manner. We think we can start sometime in October. So as soon as it is announced, we'll be able to start. That will be from mid-October on, may be a little bit later than that, but we'll be all set," said Trump

However, just hours before Donald Trump unveiled this plan, Director of US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Robert Redfield testified before a US Congress panel and said that a vaccine won't be available to American public before second and third quarter of 2021.

"I think there will be a vaccine that will initially be available sometime between November and December, but very limited supply and we'll have to be prioritized. If you're asking me when is it going to be generally available to the American public, so we can begin to take advantage of the vaccine to get back to our regular life? I think we're probably looking at third, late second quarter, third quarter 2021," he said.

But Trump said Redfield made a mistake when he said that

"No. I think he made a mistake when he said that. It's just incorrect information. And I called him and he didn't tell me that. And I think he got the message may be confused. Maybe it was stated incorrectly, said Trump.

There's no telling what is the real situation. But let's hope that vaccine Trump is promising to deliver next month is not that disinfectant which he once promoted as a remedy for the Wuhan virus.

The Good Friday Agreement refers to a pair of deals signed on April 1998 that ended most of the violence of the Troubles, a political conflict in Northern Ireland that had been ongoing since the 1960s.

Johnson says the United Kingdom has to have the ability to break parts of the 2020 Brexit treaty he signed to uphold London's commitments under the 1998 peace deal which ended three decades of sectarian violence in Northern Ireland between pro-British Protestant unionists and Irish Catholic nationalists.

The EU says any breach of the Brexit treaty could sink trade talks, propel the United Kingdom towards a messy exit when it finally leaves informal membership at the end of the year and thus complicate the border between Northern Ireland and EU-member Ireland.

Britain and the EU jointly promised in the Brexit agreement to ensure there are no customs posts or other obstacles on the Northern Ireland-Ireland border. The open border is key to the stability that underpins the peace settlement.

British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab is in Washington this week, and has been trying to assuage American concerns that a pending government bill would undermine Northern Ireland peace, if passed by lawmakers.

No deal?

The EU's Brexit negotiator told the bloc's 27 national envoys that he still hoped a trade deal with Britain was possible, stressing that the coming days would be decisive.

Michel Barnier addressed the gathering on Wednesday and the three sources either participated in the discussion behind closed doors or were briefed on its content.

"Barnier still believes a deal is possible though the next days are key," said one of the EU diplomatic sources.

Johnson told The Sun that the EU was being "abusive" to Britain and risking four decades of partnership.

He said the UK must "ring-fence" the Brexit deal "to put in watertight bulkheads that will stop friends and partners making abusive or extreme interpretations of the provisions."

Societe Generale analysts said on Thursday they now see an 80 per cent chance that Britain and the EU will fail to strike a trade deal before the end of the year.

Biden, who has talked about the importance of his Irish heritage, retweeted a letter from Eliot Engel, chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives, to Johnson calling on the British leader to honour the 1998 Good Friday peace deal.

Engel urged Johnson to "abandon any and all legally questionable and unfair efforts to flout the Northern Ireland protocol of the Withdrawal Agreement."

He called on Johnson to "ensure that Brexit negotiations do not undermine the decades of progress to bring peace to Northern Ireland and future options for the bilateral relationship between our two countries."

Engel said Congress would not support a free trade agreement between the United States and the United Kingdom if Britain failed to uphold its commitments with Northern Ireland.

The letter was signed by Representatives Richard Neal, William Keating and Peter King.

Johnson is pushing ahead with his plan.

His government reached a deal on Wednesday to avert a rebellion in his own party, giving parliament a say over the use of post-Brexit powers within its proposed Internal Market Bill that breaks international law.

US Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden warned the United Kingdom that it must honour the Northern Irish peace deal as it extracts itself from the European Union or there would be no US trade deal.

US Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden warned the United Kingdom that it must honour the Northern Irish peace deal as it extracts itself from the European Union or there would be no US trade deal. We can’t allow the Good Friday Agreement that brought peace to Northern Ireland to become a casualty of Brexit. Any trade deal between the U.S. and U.K. must be contingent upon respect for the Agreement and preventing the return of a hard border. US Election 2020: Joe Biden holds lead over Trump among Indian-American voters

The United States goes to polls in just 47 days from now. Who will America elect as its next president? Donald Trump or Joe Biden?

Donald Trump has made a charge that Joe Biden is "taking something". According to Trump, Biden's stage performance during the primaries was a "disaster".

The US President is surprised by Biden's improved stage performance now and hence feels that Biden is taking something that gives him clarity. That's not all, Trump wants Biden to undergo drug test before their presidential debates which begin on September 29.

Joe Biden has rubbished Trump's allegations. Biden said that Trump was a "fool" and his comments were foolish.

Donald Trump's proximity to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is apparently helping him. A leading American think tank has said that Trump may bag more Indian-American votes compared to Joe Biden.

It shouldn't come as a surprise as Trump has repeatedly gone out of his way to woo Indian diaspora. During PM Modi's visit to Houston in 2019, Trump was at the stadium event for Modi.

In February this year when Trump had come to India, PM Modi had hosted him in his home state Gujarat. The Democrats on the other hand have rubbed India the wrong way with their stand on Kashmir.

The Democrats however, have an edge. When Biden picked Kamala Harris as his running mate there was "historic outpour of contribution' to the Democratic Party, according to a report. Around $48 million came on first two days of the announcement of Kamala Harris's candidature. In August alone, Democrats collected a record $364.5 million.

Women and Californians, who would otherwise avoid shelling out money for Joe Biden, donated generously. This week, Kamala Harris attended a fundraiser with Hillary Clinton that fetched $6 million from 100 thousand people.

Donald Trump is winning more bad press than donations. His old trip to France has come in focus now. Trump had gone to France in 2018 and cancelled a visit to cemetery. He apparently called dead US marines losers and suckers. Trump reportedly spent time admiring art at the house of US Ambassador to France. Trump liked some art pieces so much that he took some of them back home in the US. He reportedly picked art worth $750,000

However the art pieces were not original! They were replicas! One of the headlines read Trump 'has a habit of falling for fakes'

Old tales, new jokes. That just about sums up the US elections.

US election tracker: From drugs to fake art, everything is making news

The US President Donald Trump has hit his rival Joe Biden under the belt in what most people are calling 'a new low' of election campaigning, weeks before the upcoming US elections.

A twitter handle — @ConservUSA38 — tweeted a video of Joe Biden from 2015 where he can be seen leaning in to whisper something in the ear of Stephanie Carter, former Defense Secretary Ash Carter's wife, during his swearing-in ceremony. His hands are seen resting on Carter's shoulders.

The video, created in form of a GIF, was posted with a caption reading "We can beat them at their game .. #PedoBiden".

Ahead of US election, Trump retweets post calling Biden 'paedophile'

As the wildfires are raging across the West, climate change took center stage in the race for the White House on Monday as former Vice President Joe Biden called President Trump a “climate arsonist” while the president said that “I don’t think science knows” what is actually happening.

Donald Trump rejects Science again: Biden calls Trump a 'climate arsonist'

As wildfires sweeping the west coast states assumed center stage on Monday (September 14) in the US election campaign, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden stressed the role of climate change in stoking the fires, saying President Donald Trump, who has blamed the fires on poor forest management, has not done enough.

"Donald Trump's climate denial may not have caused these fires and record floods and record hurricanes, but if he gets a second term, these hellish events will continue to become more common, more devastating and more deadly," he said.

The blitz of wildfires across Oregon, California and Washington state has destroyed thousands of homes and a half dozen small towns since August, scorching more than 4 million acres (1.6 million hectares) and killing more than two dozen people.

Calling Trump a "climate arsonist," Biden said, "If we have four more years of Trump's climate denial, how many suburbs will be burned by wildfires? How many suburban neighborhoods will have been flooded out," he said.

Democrats have blasted Trump for remaining mostly silent about the largest wildfires in state history, except for his efforts to blame the blazes on failures by the state government.

Trump, who pulled the United States out of the Paris accord that laid out an international approach to combat climate change, has authorised federal disaster aid for both California and Oregon and is due to meet with firefighters and emergency officials in Northern California.
