Following the former soldier's allegations, an Israel Prison Service (IPS) officer was questioned under caution.

According to Israeli media reports, several women have since come forward with allegations that female guards were "pimped out" to be raped or sexually abused by political prisoners at the same prison.

An IPS spokesperson said the "serious allegations" refer to an incident from a few years ago after being asked for a response to a request for comment.

Highlighting that the ''information is under a gag order'', the spokesperson added that ''we will wait for the results of the police investigation and act accordingly with zero tolerance.''&nbsp;

Israel Prime Minister Yair Lapid on Sunday (July 31), promised an investigation of female former prison guard that she was forced to work as a "sex slave" by her superiors. The prison management attracted fresh focus in September 2021 when six Palestinian prisoners escaped by tunnelling out of their cells.

The past year has seen a series of revelations regarding what some Israeli media call the Gilboa "Pimping Affair," a reference to widespread reports that male supervisors ordered female guards into situations where they were vulnerable to assault by inmates.&nbsp;

Last week, a woman identifying herself as a former guard,&nbsp;anonymously posted her testimony online. She said she was repeatedly raped by a Palestinian prisoner.

The woman said that she was "handed over" to him by her superiors and became his "private sex slave".

"I didn't want to be raped, to be violated again and again," she said.

Keren Barak, the woman's lawyer affirmed the testimony on Israeli channel during the weekend. Barak said her client needed mental health support.

Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid told his cabinet on Sunday: "It cannot be (tolerated) that a soldier is raped by a terrorist during her service."

"It must – and will be – investigated. We will make certain that the soldier receives assistance," Lapid said.&nbsp;

In a separate statement on Sunday, Internal Security Minister Omer Barlev said, the "affair that happened a few years ago in Gilboa prison," had "shaken the Israeli public."

"I read the testimonies that are published and I am simply shocked," Barlev said.&nbsp;

Israeli PM says 'sex slave' prison case will be investigated

In response to the Palestinian Authority's (PA) funding of militants, Israeli ministers retained the partial tax income freeze in place on Sunday, an official said. According to legislation from 2018, the 600 million shekels ($176 million) withheld would equal the amount the PA gave to the attackers' families in 2017.

Israel transfers the roughly $190 million a month it receives in customs taxes from commodities passing through Israeli ports on their way to Palestinian marketplaces to the PA. The Palestinians protested the law's implementation in 2019 by delaying receiving all aid for eight months. Israel claims that the money given to the attackers' families encourages more assaults.

For its part, the PA claims that the payments constitute welfare for families who have lost their primary earner. The so-called "security cabinet" of Israel's ministers gave their approval for the freeze to remain in place, an Israeli official told AFP.&nbsp;

According to a report by the UK’s Money magazine, Israel is already the sixth most expensive country in the world for groceries. And on Monday, it was announced that prices are set to increase even further… with the cost of buying what many consider the bare necessity, bread, is expected to rise by up to 21 per cent.

The Bnei Brak, which is a largely ultra-orthodox community with around 180,000 residents, is also one of the poorest cities in Israel. In 2022, it was ranked Israel’s most densely populated city, with 28,000 people per square kilometre.

It is ranked the fourth most densely populated city in the world, with an average of seven children per family. The cost of feeding these large families is set to rise this summer, and again in December.

The price of white bread in the region is increasing by 5 per cent instead of the planned 36 per cent. However, come December and the price of standard bread would jump by 21 per cent.

It comes as Israel's annual inflation rate has risen to 4.4 per cent which is the highest in the last 11 years.

The baking industry argues that the price hikes are necessary to prevent thousands of people from losing their jobs, and are not significant for consumers.

But it’s not just bread prices that are going up. The price of government-supervised eggs went up by 6.5 per cent at the start of July. For perspective, the last egg price rise was only by 1.44 per cent in 2019. And dairy products that are under government price regulation have also recently increased &nbsp;by 4.9 per cent.&nbsp;

While the government has limited bread price hikes for now, the price of bread would be going up gradually, with the next hike scheduled for after the forthcoming election. Prime Minister Lapid has asked ministers to provide a plan to tackle rising grocery bills.

In the meantime, however, it appears that many people may be left struggling to cope with food bills even more at the end of the month. And the rising cost of living and food insecurity may become key issues in the upcoming election.

The cooperation between India, Israel, United Arab Emirates, and the US is a game-changer as these countries have come together to fulfil geoeconomic objectives of enhanced investments and tackle global challenges. For India, the I2U2 grouping is of particular significance as it places New Delhi in a position to leverage its strategic relations with Israel, UAE, and the US to build mutually beneficial economic partnerships without any adverse impact on its domestic commitments. During the summit, it was announced that UAE would invest $2 billion to develop sustainable and hi-tech integrated food parks in India’s Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. The investment in food parks will give an impetus to the Indian agricultural system as it will help in more agricultural output with cooperation from the Israel-UAE state and private sector. The investment also points toward the sustainability advantage that will benefit India as the food parks will address the food waste problem. Regarding geoeconomic features, the investment will enhance food security in the Gulf region, with India getting space to negotiate on energy security. Additionally, the I2U2 grouping focuses on private capital investment and technical expertise to solve waste treatment problems, health access, and start-up linkages. India stands to gain from these investments as India’s start-up industry is increasing quickly. The investments in start-ups and their linkages with other countries will provide an impetus to entrepreneurial innovation and the creation of more such ventures. Apart from the food security and start-up-oriented investment, the grouping also benefits India with its Clean Energy initiative. The initiative looks forward to establishing a hybrid renewable energy facility bringing together wind and solar energy for energy conservation and promoting a sustainable enterprise. The clean energy project aligns with India’s commitment to reducing carbon dependency in the Paris Agreement. Hence, India stands to gain from the I2U2 grouping as it is an opportunity for India to cooperate with UAE and Israel to make a stronghold in the rest of West Asia. Continuation of 'Look-West' policy It would not be an exaggeration to say that the I2U2 grouping is a continuation of India’s Look West Policy. India has had trade partnerships with West Asia in areas of energy and oil since the 1990s. In 2014, with the coming of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister, in line with the Look East policy, he charted a new approach focusing on building strategic relations with West Asia. Under the Look West policy, India determined to fulfil its national interest without getting involved in the regional politics of the Arab world. India’s approach to engaging with West Asia establishes a common ground for cooperation. The relations between India and West Asia rest on government-to-government (G-G), business-to-business (B-B), and people-to-people (P-P) contacts. In May 2022, India and the United Arab Emirates signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which is expected to increase the bilateral between the two countries. Similarly, India shares historical relations with Israel owing to its defence requirements. Saudi Arabia is another partner of India in West Asia, actively investing in the Jio platform of Reliance Industries. Therefore, the I2U2 complements India’s Look West Policy as it strengthens its position in the region by collaborating with UAE and Israel on economic, oil, energy, and defence matters. Additionally, partnering with the US other than in the Indo-Pacific enhances Indo-US relations. Grants India an advantage in the region The Look West Policy has positioned India in an advantageous position as its relations with the OIC have improved while remaining a balancer in the region by not taking sides between the Arab world and Israel or Saudi Arabia and Iran. The I2U2 presents an opportunity for India to enhance its partnership with the Arab world and strengthen its stance on harnessing relations with all regions. The grouping is a platform where countries can multilaterally invest and cooperate. The Arab region is significant for India’s foreign policy as it is a hotspot of many conflicts. The Look West Policy is India’s strategy of engaging with the area bypassing Pakistan’s geopolitical boundaries. Therefore, the Look West Policy and I2U2 are a critical aspect of India’s foreign policy as it is in the country’s national interest. The Look West Policy complements I2U2 by engaging India with other developing economies of West Asia in sectors ranging from energy, climate action, sustainability, etc. India should continue to diplomatically engage with West Asia to continue its multilateral approach to international relations while also focusing on building more people-to-people contacts. The I2U2 grouping allows India to act as a balancer in the region by engaging with all countries in a geopolitically charged region. Speaking to WION’s Diplomatic Correspondent Sidhant Sibal, envoy Gilon said I2U2 or West Asian Quad is a "very, very positive initiative that will help, change the reality and cooperation and friendships in the region.".

WION: How do you see the I2U2 summit happening and the role of Israel in this major West Asian quad

Naor Gilon: I think it's a very important and interesting imitative in the sense that none of the 4 countries involved, India, Israel, United States and United Arab Emirates (UAE). They have no common border, but they only have common values and interests, and we are going to unite together and work together to implement these values and interests. It is not against anyone, it's for our people, for making the world a better place. There are two projects we will work together to implement, one in the field of food security, food corridors in India and another one is clean tech, and clean energy, also in India. With the implementation of technologies, funding from different actors including Israel. So, I think, it's a very very positive initiative that will help, change the reality and cooperation and friendships in the region.

WION: Do you think it's because of the Abraham accords that this grouping has emerged.

Naor Gilon: Of course, there is no doubt that the basis of everything for the big change we are seeing in the middle east is the Abraham accords. Without the Abraham accords, we would not see for example the UAE not joining it with such enthusiasm. I think&nbsp;the Abraham accords, is really huge change for the middle east, because although we had very important peace accords with important Neighbours like Jordan and Egypt, but these were based on land problems, land swaps etc. But now we are doing peace with countries that are far away from Israel and really don't have an issue with Israel as well.&nbsp;Morrocco, Bahrain, UAE, and this is a change. I must say, probably, we have to thank Iran also because the fear of Iran for these countries undoubtfully is one of the elements that is uniting them, pushing them to be closer to Israel, which is considered the biggest opponent, I guess, of the Iranian behaviour, destabilizing, supporting terrorism. I think they deserve a lot of credit for the Abraham accords, and then I2U2, which is really a continuation of that.

Naor Gilon: I think the first two&nbsp;projects are in India. Their collaboration on high technology&nbsp;and health is very important. US, Israel, and UAE are there, so it's a good neighbourhood partnership, and brings abilities in different fields on the table, be it technology be it financial, be it both. It is a huge opportunity also for India.

Saudi Arabia has declared that it will ease restrictions on "all carriers" operating in&nbsp;its airspace. US President Joe Biden who will be visiting the Kingdom soon welcomed the "historic" decision as an attempt at defusing tensions with Israel. In a statement released by the White House, US&nbsp;hailed this as a result of Biden's "persistent diplomacy". US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said that the decision was the outcome of the President's "persistent and principled diplomacy with Saudi Arabia over many months, culminating in his visit today," adding that Biden "commends" it.

He added that the US president, who is travelling to the Middle East and will arrive in Saudi Arabia later on Friday, "will have more to say on this breakthrough later today."

Taking to Twitter Saudi's General Authority of Civil Aviation said that it "announces the decision to open the Kingdom's airspace for all air carriers that meet the requirements of the authority for overflying".&nbsp;

As per the statement, the decision was made to "complement the Kingdom's efforts aimed at consolidating the Kingdom's position as a global hub connecting three continents".&nbsp;

Shortly after the Abraham Accords were announced in 2020, Saudi Arabia declared that UAE planes to "all countries" could overfly the country and even permitted an Israeli plane to fly over while travelling to Abu Dhabi.

Following Friday's announcement, aeroplanes flying to and from Israel are no longer subject to overflight restrictions.

Israel has pushed for the right to use overflights to reduce connections to Asian destinations.

The Israeli government also wants direct flights from Israel to Saudi Arabia for Muslim pilgrims who currently have to pay for costly layover costs in other countries.

The company, known for its political activism, took the unusual step of seeking an injunction after London-based Unilever last week announced it had sold its interest in the ice cream to Israeli license-holder Avi Zinger.

As reported by AFP, according to the complaint filed in a US district court, the legal action was "essential to ... protect the brand and social integrity Ben &amp; Jerry's has spent decades building." Unilever's decision was "made without the consent of Ben &amp; Jerry's Independent Board," and goes against the merger agreement that gave the board the ability to protect the founder's values and reputation, the complaint said.

In July last year, Vermont-based Ben &amp; Jerry's announced it would no longer sell its ice cream in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories, which the Jewish state seized in 1967, saying it was "inconsistent with our values," although it said it planned to keep selling its products in Israel. However, Zinger continued to produce the ice cream in his factory in the suburbs of Tel Aviv and distribute it to the Israeli settlements, going against Ben &amp; Jerry's decision.

The Israeli approval follows the US Food and Drug Administration granting in June emergency authorisation for Moderna's vaccine for children aged six months to five years, and Pfizer's shots for those between six months and four years old

Several other countries and territories like Argentina, Bahrain, Chile, China, Cuba, Hong Kong and Venezuela have cleared vaccines for toddlers buut none of these vaccines include mRNA vaccine.

A July 1 letter by Israeli health ministry director-general Nachman Ash, sent to AFP on Tuesday, noted two hearings held by a ministry panel, in which Pfizer and Moderna data on the "mild" side effects and efficacy rates were presented.

All members of the expert panel agreed the vaccines were safe, with most of the panel "recommending to vaccinate at-risk babies and children, and to enable the vaccination of children who are not at risk," Ash wrote.

In light of the recommendation, Ash decided "to enable the administering of mRNA Covid-19 vaccinations by Pfizer and Moderna to children aged six months to four or five years," he said.&nbsp;

Over six million Israelis have received at least two Covid-19 vaccination shots, included in them 17 percent of the country's children aged 5-11, which up to the latest approval had been the youngest group eligible for the inoculation.

Israel approves Covid-19 shots for youngest children

French President Emmanuel Macron on Tueday (July 5) said that world needed 'defend' nuclear deal with Iran the revival of which is being discussed between world powers and Iran. Macron made the statement in a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid. Israel is fiercely against any nuclear deal with Iran.

Nuclear deal with Iran was struck by the USA under former president Barack Obama and other world powers including Russia in 2015. But Obama's successor Donald Trump took USA out of the deal and re-imposed crippling sanctions on the Islamic republic. After current President Joe Biden took office, the discussions to revive the nuclear deal have been going on but without result so far.

"We have to defend this (nuclear) deal (with Iran). And take in account the interests of our friends in the area, primarily Israel," Macron told reporters in the joit press conference.

Israel is opposed to any deal with Iran. The Islamic republic has over years, carved its own sphere of influence in West Asia. Saudi Arabia is also opposed to growing Iranian influence.

Before his arrival in Paris, Lapid reiterated his country's stance in presence of reporters travelling with him.&nbsp;

Acknowledging that France disagrees with that view, he said what was beyond dispute was that "Iran is violating the agreement and continues to develop its nuclear programme."

Israeli officials fear that giving Iran sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on its nuclear programme could allow Tehran to boost funding to Hezbollah, as well as the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

Macron, meanwhile, deplored that Iran "refuses to seize the opportunity offered to it to conclude a good agreement", but said he would "make every effort" to make Tehran "see reason".

Macron made the statement in a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid. Israel is fiercely against any nuclear deal with Iran. Nuclear deal with Iran was struck by the USA under former president Barack Obama and other world powers including Russia in 2015. But Obama's successor Donald Trump took USA out of the deal and re-imposed crippling sanctions on the Islamic republic. After current President Joe Biden took office, the discussions to revive the nuclear deal have been going on but without result so far. "We have to defend this (nuclear) deal (with Iran). And take in account the interests of our friends in the area, primarily Israel," Macron told reporters in the joit press conference. Israel is opposed to any deal with Iran. The Islamic republic has over years, carved its own sphere of influence in West Asia. Saudi Arabia is also opposed to growing Iranian influence. Before his arrival in Paris, Lapid reiterated his country's stance in presence of reporters travelling with him. Acknowledging that France disagrees with that view, he said what was beyond dispute was that "Iran is violating the agreement and continues to develop its nuclear programme." Israeli officials fear that giving Iran sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on its nuclear programme could allow Tehran to boost funding to Hezbollah, as well as the Palestinian militant group Hamas. Macron, meanwhile, deplored that Iran "refuses to seize the opportunity offered to it to conclude a good agreement", but said he would "make every effort" to make Tehran "see reason". Last month, the organisation known as Sharp Boys claimed to have acquired information such as ID numbers, addresses, credit card details, and more from Israeli travel websites.

Over 20 travel-related websites, including hotel4u.co.il, hotels.co.il, isrotel.com, minihotel.co.il, trivago.co.il, and danhotels.com, were compromised.

Several personal requests by Israeli consumers to cancel scheduled holidays due to various health conditions were reportedly among the information that was released.

"You are under our supervision no matter where you go, including on your travels. Keep our name in mind, "in a picture they shared on their Telegram channel, the Sharp Boys stated.

According to N12, Israel's Privacy Protection Authority stated it contacted the website operator after the theft to draw attention to flaws in data protection. The majority of the compromised Israeli websites are run by Gol Tours, which is owned by the operator.

Additionally, the authorities claimed that the operator ignored their request for him to update his cyber security. The Privacy Protection Authority claims that the reason for his denial was the prohibitive expense.

The proprietor of Gol Tours denied the claims made against him, saying he never refused to update his cyber security. Furthermore, he claimed that his business does not maintain credit card details and that the hackers "just grabbed names and phone numbers" from his website.

Iranian hackers leak data of over 300,000 Israelis from tourism sites

United Nations on Friday said that the shot that klled Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was fired by Isreali forces. The incident took places on May 11. The Palestinian-American journalist was wearing a vest marker 'press' and a helmet. She was covering Israeli Army operation in Jenin camp in West Bank.

"We find that the shots that killed Abu Akleh came from Israeli security forces," UN Human Rights Office spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani told reporters in Geneva.

"It is deeply disturbing that Israeli authorities have not conducted a criminal investigation.

"We at the UN Human Rights Office have concluded our independent monitoring into the incident.

"The shots that killed Abu Akleh and injured her colleague Ali Sammoudi came from Israeli security forces and not from indiscriminate firing by armed Palestinians, as initially claimed by Israeli authorities" she said.&nbsp;

She added that the information came from the Israeli military and the Palestinian attorney general.&nbsp;

At around 6:30 am, as four of the journalists turned into a particular street, "several single, seemingly well-aimed bullets were fired towards them from the direction of the Israeli security forces.

"One single bullet injured Ali Sammoudi in the shoulder; another single bullet hit Abu Akleh in the head and killed her instantly."

Israel govt collapses, paving way for 5th election in 3 years; Lapid to be interim PM

Israel's outgoing government vowed on Tuesday to prevent a comeback by ex-premier Benjamin Netanyahu, their fellow right-winger, as the country braced for a fifth election in less than four years with polling predicting no clear winner, as reported by Reuters.

On the fall of the current coalition, Netanyahu said, "I must tell you that this evening people are smiling, even on the way over here, people are simply smiling. Because they feel that despite this consciousness modification, which we also heard tonight, they understand that something great happened here.”

“We are getting rid of the worst government in Israel's history," he added.

The prospect of an election as early as October delighted Netanyahu, Israel's longest-serving leader, who was toppled a year ago after Bennett mustered a rare coalition of hard-right, liberal and Arab politicians.

"I intend to form a strong, national, steady government. I think the atmosphere changed, I can feel it. I hear from the people. You walk and talk to mothers, fathers, young couples with children, with older people, some of whom did not vote for me, and they say - we now want the real change, we want to return the State of Israel to the place it deserves and I intend to do it together with my friends," said Netanyahu.

Surveys have consistently given Likud around 30 of parliament's 120 seats - which would make it the biggest party but would require Netanyahu to sign up like-minded allies, including among current partners in Bennett's coalition. But, outgoing coalition members are vowing to not let Netanyahu in.

Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman said at an Israel Democracy Institute conference in Jerusalem, "The main object in the upcoming election is to prevent Netanyahu from returning to power."&nbsp;

Netanyahu claims ‘everyone is smiling’ at ‘fall of coalition’, outgoing members vow to block his comeback

A recent sensational controversy has rocked the present Pakistani Government when the news trickled in that a number of Pakistani expats and some citizens recently travelled to Israel from the US. &nbsp;This was discussed in the Pakistani parliament, media conferences, public meetings and other platforms.

The trip's&nbsp;main organizer Anila Ali, who heads the Non-Government Organization (NGO) called American Muslim Multifaith Women’s Empowerment Council (AMMWEC) disclosed to a prominent Pakistani newspaper that they had arranged special permission from the PTI government for one of its members, a Pakistani citizen, to travel to Israel. &nbsp;

The said individual, a woman, was assured that she will not be harmed due to her Israel visit. &nbsp;On the other hand, Anila Ali also claimed that her NGO aims to build inter-faith ties with people of different communities in the US. &nbsp;More significantly, the aim was also towards forging a natural alliance with Muslims and Jews as formidable partners for future scheme of things.

This ongoing raging controversy is unlikely to die out as it is being politically exploited to malign the erstwhile Imran Khan dispensation which has been accused for encouraging this trip.

One, Ahmed Quraishi, the Pakistani Television (PTV) journalist, who accompanied the delegation to Israel, gave out to the press that Imran Khan regime had initiated the unexpected debate on Pakistan-Israel relations and denied rather categorically that the Pakistani delegation had anything to do to lobby in establishing diplomatic relations between Israel and Pakistan and it was to promote only interfaith harmony, Muslim-Jewish reconciliation, and the Abraham Accords. &nbsp;

Quraishi, however, a full-time employee of the PTV, was dismissed from service summarily which he has contested.&nbsp;

He further said in his defence that the government’s announcement meant that it was endorsing PTI’s leadership’s “false claims” about a state employee being sent to Israel. In his opinion, the statement that the government issued through PTV was a political one, possibly trying to give PTI leadership a concession.

He also claimed that the purpose of his delegation’s visit had “nothing to do with Pakistan”. Quraishi also alleged that the matter was dragged into Pakistani politics and politicized by Shireen Mazari, who used photos of the trip to claim that the Shehbaz Sharif government was conducting covert diplomacy with Tel Aviv.

This has further messed up things.

Notwithstanding the facts, as discussed above, it would be pertinent to point out that it was former President Pervez Musharraf who during his tenure, had met the vibrant Jewish lobby in the US to use their good offices to facilitate a toe hold in Tel Aviv for a thaw in the bilateral ties.

As a hawk and a military dictator, who always had India in mind in his external and internal policies, wanted to befriend Israel to strike a balance. &nbsp;He was indeed short of vision as general Pakistani public and the highly Islamized Pakistan’s society with religious radicals still calling the shots, would always be vehemently opposed to Pakistan getting close to Israel chiefly on the issue of Palestine and Zionism.

Further, it is quite possible that a segment in the Pakistani establishment had encouraged this NGO under discussion to use a `trial balloon’ to test the waters. &nbsp;It is also likely that the Jewish lobby too had been thinking of alluring the Pakistan security establishment to allure them for inviting Israel’s companies for investments in Pakistan. &nbsp;Their role and priorities have always been commercial and less political. &nbsp;

Several Israeli companies are active in sale of security spyware and intelligence-related equipment and they have gone all over the world with spectacular success. &nbsp;Pakistan, essentially a military-dominated country with India as the arch-enemy, could be an ideal marketing turf for the Israeli business houses.&nbsp;

Hence, this possibility is also not ruled out. &nbsp;However, if Pakistan officially goes ahead in warming up to Israel (which does not look feasible), public sentiment within will go ballistic and it will be an exercise in futility.&nbsp;

This is evident by unsavoury and knee-jerk sensation in this sensational move. &nbsp;It is also worth taking a note that of late, Israel has warmed up to its adversaries like Saudi Arabia and the UAE. &nbsp;Both these countries have one thing common with Israel. &nbsp;And, that is Iran as their enemy. &nbsp;It’s not the case with Pakistan. &nbsp;Saudi Arabia and UAE have regimes which can control the public opinion within but Pakistan cannot. &nbsp;

In other words, the `trial balloon’ is pricked and burst hence move by this NGO is a non-starter. &nbsp;&nbsp;

On their part, the current Pakistani government will also play safe exercising utmost caution. &nbsp;As it is, it’s a fragile coalition saddled with countless uncertainties. &nbsp;Opening a new front will be suicidal and any signal of getting close proximity to Israel will incur the wrath of many. Surely, the new dispensation cannot afford to take that risk.

Several Israeli companies are active in sale of security spyware and intelligence-related equipment and they have gone all over the world with spectacular success. Pakistan, essentially a military-dominated country with India as the arch-enemy, could be an ideal marketing turf for the Israeli business houses. Hence, this possibility is also not ruled out. However, if Pakistan officially goes ahead in warming up to Israel (which does not look feasible), public sentiment within will go ballistic and it will be an exercise in futility. This is evident by unsavoury and knee-jerk sensation in this sensational move. It is also worth taking a note that of late, Israel has warmed up to its adversaries like Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Both these countries have one thing common with Israel. And, that is Iran as their enemy. It’s not the case with Pakistan. Saudi Arabia and UAE have regimes which can control the public opinion within but Pakistan cannot. In other words, the `trial balloon’ is pricked and burst hence move by this NGO is a non-starter. On their part, the current Pakistani government will also play safe exercising utmost caution. As it is, it’s a fragile coalition saddled with countless uncertainties. Opening a new front will be suicidal and any signal of getting close proximity to Israel will incur the wrath of many. Surely, the new dispensation cannot afford to take that risk. Israel announced on Tuesday that it had proof that Iran stole sensitive documents from the United Nations Atomic Energy Agency over two decades ago and used them to hide its nuclear programmes from international inspectors.

The documents appear to demonstrate that Iran was spying on the inspectors and seeking to anticipate and respond to any claims of malfeasance, but there is no indication that it was pursuing nuclear weapons. Israel has been pressuring the United States and other international powers not to rebuild the shattered nuclear deal with Iran.

The materials were distributed to the media by Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett. They come from a cache of Iranian nuclear files acquired by Israel in 2018 but never made public, according to his office.

The Wall Street Journal first reported on the documents last week, saying it had obtained them from a Middle East intelligence agency” in a country opposed to Iran’s nuclear program.

Bennett claimed he was distributing the documents in reaction to remarks made at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, by Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, who dismissed the charges as lies. " The foreign minister referred to earlier instances when Israel has provided dire warnings that Iran was poised to build nuclear weapons that did not come to pass.

Spreading false information? Please, don't make me laugh. Bennett remarked in a video distributed to the media, "I'm holding the proof of your falsehoods right here in my hands." The Persian-language documents, which could not be verified right away, appear to be stamped with official stamps, some of which say "secret."

Israel is widely believed to be the only nuclear-armed state in the Middle East. It has never publicly acknowledged having such weapons.

One of the documents shared by Israel, a purported Iranian intelligence memo from 2004, says 27 pages of classified IAEA documents are being sent to prepare for an inspection of Iran’s Arak heavy water nuclear reactor. The reactor produces plutonium as a byproduct, which can be used for nuclear weapons. The memo says the documents were obtained using intelligence methods.
