President Donald Trump has signaled to aides that he is willing to drop the push for a formal nuclear deal with Iran, focusing instead on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and letting severe economic pressure and inflation grind down Tehran. Whether Iran collapses internally remains uncertain, as historical and intelligence assessments show that external bombing campaigns often fail to instigate quick regime change and can instead temporarily unify populations.

The ongoing conflict has severely aggravated Iran's economic collapse, pushing average annual inflation to over 60%, driving food inflation past 130%, and forcing sharp cuts to subsidized fuel quotas. The International Monetary Fund projects Iran's wartime economy to contract by 6.1%.

As the U.S. midterm elections approach, political observers in Tehran are closely monitoring sliding domestic approval ratings for President Donald Trump. Public dissatisfaction with the protracted military conflict with Iran, rising inflation, and energy market pressures have cratered support for the White House's handling of both foreign and domestic policy.

West Asia remains on edge as Iran and Oman move closer to finalizing a Strait of Hormuz shipping agreement while tensions continue to rise across the region. Israel has launched fresh strikes on southern Lebanon, with the IDF citing Hezbollah ceasefire violations. At the same time, Iran has reportedly warned Gulf nations that their energy infrastructure could become targets if they fail to persuade the United States to halt military action.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has reportedly urged U.S. President Donald Trump to delay military action and prioritize diplomacy. Meanwhile, Washington continues to express frustration over stalled talks with Tehran, even as negotiations over maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz continue through Oman.

Iran Warns Gulf States | Israel Strikes Lebanon as Hormuz Talks Continue | West Asia Crisis

While Iran and Oman are close to seal a deal on the Strait of Hormuz, peace in West Asia remains elusive. Iran is also upping the ante on the diplomatic front. According to reports, Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi conveyed to Gulf nations that his country will hit their oil, power and water plants unless they convince Trump to end US strikes on Iran. According to this warning, energy facilities, oil fields, refineries, electricity grids, water infrastructure, and transport networks would be on target. Subsequently, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reportedly spoke to Trump, urging him to delay military action on Iran and pursue a diplomatic settlement. Now, US has also flagged divisions within Iran as a key reason for the deadlock in talks. Meanwhile, Iran continues to deny holding any talks with US. Instead, it is negotiating with Oman to finalise an agreement of safe passage of vessels through Hormuz. While Iran and US agreed for reopening Hormuz to vessel traffic for 60 days, the two sides disagreed over which routes ships should take. Iran attacked several ships that had reportedly taken an Oman-approved route backed by the US. According to reports, the proposed deal may give Tehran control over ships entering Hormuz, as well as visibility over outbound traffic. It also remains to be seen when America's naval blockade will be lifted. Amid this, US has once again vented its frustration over the deadlock in talks with Iran. Since the beginning of the war, one question has been repeatedly raised—Who is actually calling the shots in Iran? Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian reignited this debate after admitting that it was very difficult to get in touch with the country's new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. Injured in the strikes that assassinated his father on February 28, Mojtaba Khamenei has not been seen in public since then. While Hezbollah is yet to break its silence on Israel's strikes, the next few hours will be crucial to determine whether tit-for-tat attacks will resume in the region yet again.

West Asia is witnessing another dangerous escalation despite reports that Iran and Oman are close to finalizing a framework for commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Fresh Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon have heightened tensions, even as diplomatic efforts continue between Israel and Lebanon.

The developments come as Washington continues to pursue negotiations with Tehran while expressing concerns over divisions within Iran's leadership.

As uncertainty grows over the future of the Hormuz shipping route and the fragile Israel-Lebanon ceasefire, fears of a broader regional conflict continue to mount.

With multiple maritime flashpoints under pressure, fears are growing over energy supplies, commercial shipping, and regional stability.

Iran and Oman are reportedly close to finalizing a new framework governing commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most strategically important maritime chokepoints.

According to reports, the proposed arrangement would route inbound vessels through Iranian territorial waters and outbound traffic through Omani waters, with no tolls during an initial 60-day period. The agreement could significantly increase Iran's role in managing shipping through the strait and reshape regional geopolitics.

The United States has not officially responded to the reports, while Vice President JD Vance has warned that negotiations with Iran remain complex. Analysts say any agreement may only provide a temporary solution as political divisions continue within both Iran and the United States.

Baghaei added that any such agreement between Iran and Oman would not, by itself, guarantee security in the strategic waterway.

An Iran-linked organised crime network is under scrutiny after reports claimed that it has recruited teenagers to carry out contract killings, including attacks on Israeli targets across Europe. The BBC reports that the Foxtrot network, a European criminal organisation allegedly linked to the Iranian regime, is believed to be responsible for around 35 murders, along with several attacks and attempted attacks on Israeli targets across Europe since 2022.According to the BBC, the group routinely recruits vulnerable teenagers, deliberately targeting younger recruits because they are allegedly more willing to take risks and less likely to consider the consequences of getting caught. The report says Foxtrot promises cash for the attacks, but many recruits are arrested during or soon after the operation, meaning the network often avoids paying them. The case has drawn new attention after a British court convicted 19-year-old Norwegian national Johannes Natland of conspiracy to commit murder. The Norwegian teenager was arrested in a hotel in the UK's Huddersfield in March last year with two firearms and ammunition.Prosecutors told jurors that Foxtrot recruited him after someone using the alias "Agent 47" arranged the hiring of an assassin, with 28,500 U.S. dollars set aside for the operation. The BBC reports that Foxtrot leader Rawa Majid, also known as "The Kurdish Fox," is based in Tehran and is allegedly directed by the Iranian regime to target its enemies, including dissidents, journalists and Israeli targets. The network emerged in Sweden in the late 2010s before expanding into Norway and other parts of Europe.Recruiters allegedly use encrypted messaging apps and social media to lure teenagers, sometimes as young as 13, into carrying out shootings, murders, grenade attacks and bombings.Senior figures reportedly commission and finance attacks, while younger recruiters advertise jobs online and identify vulnerable teenagers. Many recruits reportedly do not know who ultimately ordered the crime. In 2025, the United Kingdom sanctioned Foxtrot and Majid.Then-UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy said the group had targeted Jewish and Israeli interests across Europe on behalf of the Iranian regime. The United States also sanctioned the organisation, accusing it of illegal drug trafficking and attacks on Israelis and Jews in Europe.Iran has denied the allegations, with its embassy in London categorically rejecting any connection between the Iranian government and the Foxtrot network.https://www.wionews.com/videos/iran-linked-crime-network-accused-of-recruiting-teen-hitmen-1785777137603/embed
