US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth strongly defended the Trump administration’s handling of the Iran war during a tense congressional hearing focused on the Pentagon’s budget and military strategy. Lawmakers questioned the growing financial burden of the conflict after Pentagon officials revealed the war has already cost around $25 billion, most of it spent on munitions and operations. Democrats on the panel criticised the administration’s long-term strategy and rising economic impact, while Hegseth argued the campaign was necessary to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

US-Iran War: Trump Vows Iran Blockade Will Remain Until Deal

Oil extended gains to the highest since 2022, surging past 120 dollars per barrel on Thursday as the US-Iran stalemate showed any signs of easing anytime soon.
The over two-month-long conflict remains in a stalemate with energy and other supplies through the critical Strait of Hormuz at a standstill.
That has led to fuel rationing across much of Asia and Africa and fears of a global economic slowdown.

Oil's Wild Moves

The gulf war has disrupted global oil supplies with key export routes under strain, producers are being forced to reroute crude through limited pipeline networks and alternative ports. But these options come with hard capacity limits, leaving a significant chunk of production stranded.
As a result, a large volume of oil is being forced offline. In the next news in numbers report we breakdown the supply loss caused due to the war. Take a look.

Russia is increasingly emerging as a central player in the Iran crisis, raising questions over whether Tehran now sees Vladimir Putin as its most trusted diplomatic backchannel. During recent talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Putin pledged that Moscow would do “everything” possible to help secure peace and protect regional stability. The growing Russia-Iran coordination comes as US-Iran negotiations remain deadlocked over Tehran’s nuclear programme, pushing Moscow into a potentially critical mediator role in one of the world’s most dangerous geopolitical standoffs.

Hegseth Defends $25 Billion Iran War As Democrats Grill Pentagon Strategy

Tensions are escalating once again in the Middle East.

New reports indicate the United States is weighing potential military strikes to break the deadlock in stalled negotiations with Iran, as diplomatic channels fail to produce a breakthrough over the nuclear and regional conflict.

At the same time, a high-stakes 90-minute phone call between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin added another layer to the geopolitical crisis. According to reports, the leaders discussed the Iran situation alongside Ukraine and broader global instability.

With diplomacy stuck and military options back on the table, the question now is: are the U.S. and its allies moving closer to escalation—or forcing a reset through pressure?

US Plans Strikes To Break Deadlock In Talks With Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump has escalated his rhetoric against Iran, declaring that Tehran will no longer be dealing with “Mr. Nice Guy.” With ceasefire talks stalled, the Strait of Hormuz still under pressure, and global oil flows disrupted, is this a negotiation tactic—or a signal of a deeper conflict ahead? We break down the strategy, the stakes, and the global economic fallout.

Trump’s Iran Warning: Posturing Or Path To War?

The Iran war is no longer just a regional conflict — its impact is now spreading across transportation, energy, industries and global financial markets. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has disrupted one of the world’s most critical trade routes, sending oil and fuel prices soaring while forcing airlines and shipping companies to reroute operations. Industries dependent on energy and raw materials are facing rising costs, while stock markets remain volatile amid fears of inflation, recession and long-term supply chain disruption.

How The Iran War Is Reshaping Global Energy, Trade And Financial Markets

With every day the Iran conflict and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz continue, the global impacts and economic fall-out increase.
The fate of the world economy now depends on whether, and when a real ceasefire emerges, the stalemate holds, or the conflict widens.

According to CENTCOM, 39 ships have now been redirected to ensure compliance with the blockade since it came into force. Also read | IRGC gunboat fires on container ship near Oman: Heavy damage reported amid Strait of Hormuz standoffThe cumulative effect on shipping patterns in the region is visible in the data CENTCOM provided alongside the announcement. Before the blockade, an average of five ships were moored or anchored on any given day at Iran's Chah Bahar port. That number has now risen to more than 20, as vessels pile up with nowhere to go while US forces cut off commercial traffic in and out of Iranian ports. Disclaimer: WION takes utmost care to accurately and responsibly report ongoing conflicts in West Asia involving Israel, Iran, US, Gulf nations and non-state actors like Hezbollah, Hamas, Houthis, Islamic State, and others. Why did US Marines storm a commercial ship M/V Blue Star III in the Arabian Sea, only to let it go shortly after?

What triggered the operation, and why was the vessel released? Scroll down to find out.

US Marines boarded a commercial vessel in the Arabian Sea on Tuesday (Apr 28) after suspecting it was attempting to reach an Iranian port in violation of Washington's blockade. The vessel, M/V Blue Star III, is a container ship sailing under the flag of Comoros. On X, CENTCOM posted, "Earlier today in the Arabian Sea, U.S. Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit boarded M/V Blue Star III, a commercial ship suspected of attempting to transit to Iran in violation of the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports." Curiously, soon after marines rappelled down to the ship from helicopters, the vessel was released. Here's why. According to reports, the vessel may have been boarded prematurely. The Comoros-flagged ship M/V Blue Star was released after a search confirmed it was not headed there. Marine traffic monitoring data revealed that the M/V Blue Star was not headed to Iran and was actually bound for the port of Sohar in Oman. But why was it boarded in the first place? US Central Command said Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit conducted the boarding after the ship raised suspicions about its intended destination. However, after completing a search and confirming the ship's voyage would not include an Iranian port call, forces released the vessel. Watch Marines forcefully board the M/V Blue Star III here:

Iran's Defence Minister Says Open To Export Defence Expertise

President Trump said Tuesday that Iran told the U.S. that it is collapsing and wants the Strait of Hormuz opened.

“Iran has just informed us that they are in a ‘State of Collapse,’” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “They want us to ‘Open the Hormuz Strait,’ as soon as possible, as they try to figure out their leadership situation (Which I believe they will be able to do!).”

US President Says Iran Seeks Reopening of Strait 'as Soon as Possible'

#Gravitas U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that any regime change in Iran has to happen from within. A statement that stands in sharp contrast to U.S. President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly claimed that regime change has already happened.
