Russia is increasingly emerging as a central player in the Iran crisis, raising questions over whether Tehran now sees Vladimir Putin as its most trusted diplomatic backchannel. During recent talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Putin pledged that Moscow would do “everything” possible to help secure peace and protect regional stability. The growing Russia-Iran coordination comes as US-Iran negotiations remain deadlocked over Tehran’s nuclear programme, pushing Moscow into a potentially critical mediator role in one of the world’s most dangerous geopolitical standoffs.
