Over the past few weeks, India has been witnessing a rise in influenza cases. Flu cases in the country's national capital are also witnessing a spike. As per a PTI report, hospitals in New Delhi are witnessing a close to 150 per cent spike in cases of the H3N2 virus. Amid the spike, a fatality is being reported from the country's financial capital Mumbai. If verified, it will bring the nation's death toll due to&nbsp;the H3N2 virus to three.

As per doctors, the influenza virus triggers symptoms like fever, cold and body aches, and in some cases causes a persistent cough that can make patients extremely weak.&nbsp;According to a Zee News report, in India, two Influenza 'A' type strains are behind this rise in flu cases. H3N2 has emerged as the dominant subtype of flu, it is followed by H1N1.

Talking to PTI about the current strain, Dr Vikas Deswal, Senior Consultant, Internal Medicine, Medanta, Gurugram said the influenza virus is the most prevalent virus that affects our respiratory system.

He explained that the virus is present in three different types: A, B, and C.

"Among these, subtype A is the most commonly found. One subtype of the influenza A virus is H3N2, which produces symptoms similar to other flu viruses such as cough, fever, cold, sore throat, fatigue, muscle pain, and respiratory complications, especially in children under two years, the elderly, and those with other medical conditions," he said.

The crime was committed on February 18 but came to light a week later, after Krishna surrendered to the police.

India was able to save over 3.4 million lives by undertaking a nationwide vaccination campaign against Covid at an unprecedented scale, a working paper by the Stanford University and Institute for Competitiveness has highlighted. Three cornerstones of the national strategy – containment, relief package, and vaccine administration - proved to be crucial in saving lives and cutting down the spread of the virus. The approach was instrumental in "ensuring economic activity by sustaining livelihoods, and developing immunity", underlines the working paper titled “Healing the Economy: Estimating the Economic Impact on India’s vaccination and related issues”. It was released on&nbsp; Friday (February 24) by Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya.

<h2>India vaccination campaign and 'positive impact for economy'</h2>

The vaccination campaign helped in preventing a loss of $18.3 billion, according to the report. "A net benefit of $15.42 billion occurred for the nation after taking into consideration the cost of the vaccination campaign," it stated, adding that "as against the top-down approach, a bottom-up approach was useful in curbing the spread of the virus". Contact tracing, mass testing, home quarantine, distribution of essential medical equipment, revamping healthcare infrastructure, and constant coordination among stakeholders at the centre, state, and district levels were the measures at the ground level that helped.

The political parties in Jammu and Kashmir have opposed the move by the J&amp;K Government to impose property tax on the residents of the Union Territory. The administration led by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir has issued the order to impose a property tax on people living within the jurisdiction of urban local bodies across the Union Territory with effect from April 1 this year.&nbsp;

The Principal Secretary Housing and Urban Development department issued a notification stating the rules for the levy, assessment and collection of property tax in municipality committees and municipal councils. The rules shall be called as Jammu and Kashmir Property Tax (Other Municipalities) Rules, 2023, and will come into force from April 1, 2023. &nbsp;

The regional political parties in Jammu and Kashmir have come out strongly against the decision. Former J&amp;K chief minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said that the order is “unjust”.

“No Taxation Without Representation. Why should people in J&amp;K pay state taxes, including the proposed property tax when we have no say in how our government is run &amp; no say in the decision-making of J&amp;K. We are expected to be mute spectators to all unjust decisions by Raj Bhavan,” said Omar Abdullah, former J&amp;K chief minister.&nbsp;

The former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, on the other hand, called the decision an injustice. ''The people of this region have faced terrorism for decades and whatever was left was taken away during Covid, the economic condition of people is also worse, and now imposing this property tax is completely unacceptable. The people of the Union territory should come out and resist the government's decision in a peaceful manner. These decisions should be left for the elected government to decide, '' said Mehbooba Mufti, Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;

However, the LG administration has given out a clarification that Jammu and Kashmir is the only place in India where property tax wasn't being paid by the people. According to the government, it hampers the developmental work in the ULBs and municipal committees of UT.

The administration led by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir has issued the order to impose a property tax on people living within the jurisdiction of urban local bodies across the Union Territory with effect from April 1 this year. The Principal Secretary Housing and Urban Development department issued a notification stating the rules for the levy, assessment and collection of property tax in municipality committees and municipal councils. The rules shall be called as Jammu and Kashmir Property Tax (Other Municipalities) Rules, 2023, and will come into force from April 1, 2023. The regional political parties in Jammu and Kashmir have come out strongly against the decision. Former J&K chief minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said that the order is “unjust”. “No Taxation Without Representation. Why should people in J&K pay state taxes, including the proposed property tax when we have no say in how our government is run & no say in the decision-making of J&K. We are expected to be mute spectators to all unjust decisions by Raj Bhavan,” said Omar Abdullah, former J&K chief minister. The former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, on the other hand, called the decision an injustice. ''The people of this region have faced terrorism for decades and whatever was left was taken away during Covid, the economic condition of people is also worse, and now imposing this property tax is completely unacceptable. The people of the Union territory should come out and resist the government's decision in a peaceful manner. These decisions should be left for the elected government to decide, '' said Mehbooba Mufti, Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. However, the LG administration has given out a clarification that Jammu and Kashmir is the only place in India where property tax wasn't being paid by the people. According to the government, it hampers the developmental work in the ULBs and municipal committees of UT.

India's Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday (February 23) yet again spoke of Pakistan's tacit support to terror groups at a time when the country faces multiple economic challenges and almost dismissed the idea of helping the western neighbour to come out of its economic mess. No country can come out of a difficult situation, Jaishankar insisted, "if it's basic industry is terrorism".&nbsp;

"Terrorism is a fundamental issue in relationship with Pakistan... we must not be in denial of it," the Foreign Minister said at an event. The minister, who is known for making sharp comments about China and Pakistan on international platforms while&nbsp;reflecting the government's stand, dropped clear hints at not extending any help to Pakistan for helping it tide over the crises by saying that he will consider the local public sentiment while making any such big decision.

"...If I were to look at any big decision I am making, I will also look at what is the public sentiment. I would have a pulse what do my people feel about it. And I think you know the answer," Jaishankar was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Underlining that India is a very "forbearing and patient country", he stressed that the nation "will do whatever it takes to protect its borders".

<h2>India and other nations on Pak economic crises</h2>

Pakistan is facing one of its worst economic crises. Earlier last year, cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan was ousted out of power amid accusations over poor handling of the economic crises. Despite his removal, the situation has hardly improved amid a political blame-game. Even as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has delayed its next tranche of $6.5 billion loan, China and Pakistan now come to the rescue of the country. Beijing has reportedly lent a $700 million loan to shore up the country's foreign reserves, which have hit a new low.

New Delhi, meanwhile, has been seeking measures by Islamabad for tackling terror. Earlier this week, in an interview with news agency ANI, Jaishankar underlined: "Pakistan’s future is largely determined by its own actions and choices. Nobody reaches a difficult situation suddenly without cause. It is for them to find out. Today, our relationship is not one where we can be relevant directly to that process." &nbsp;
