The Lithuanian embassy in India has undertaken a unique project to highlight the linguistic similarities between Sanskrit and Lithuanian, two of the oldest languages in the world.

The Lithuanian embassy in India has undertaken a unique project to highlight the linguistic similarities between Sanskrit and Lithuanian, two of the oldest languages in the world. The project involves a street art mural on the outer wall of the Harcourt Butler School in Delhi's Mandir Marg area, showcasing common words in both languages. The colourful mural depicts traditional Lithuanian style and patterns, and it is set to become a popular attraction for passersby. Diana Mickeviciene, ambassador of Lithuania, highlighted the link between Sanskrit and Lithuanian and how this bonds the two countries together. "Lithuanian language is officially recognised as the closest living sister language of Sanskrit and we are very keen to research this particular connection. We have been keen to bring this message of friendship and historical connection. We are looking forward to more present and modern connection," Mickeviciene told WION. Elaborating in Hindi she pointed out, "hamarey desh ki dosti ka nishan bharat key liye (This is a symbol of friendship between India and Lithuania)." WATCH | India: Sanskrit and Lithuanian words adorn the school wall in Delhi × Linas Kaziulionis, a Lithuanian artist, painted the mural on the outer wall of the school. He symbolically painted the final keywords of the mural, "Deva" and "Agni," which have a profound meaning for both nations and represent the linguistic and cultural connection between the people of Lithuania and India. "Really amazing, India is a very good country and planning to come here again. I am very glad to be here and show language similarities," said Kaziulionis. The project involved painting the most common day-to-day Sanskrit-Lithuanian words like Sapna, Madhu, Agni, and Deva in both Devanagari and Lithuanian scripts. The project has not only highlighted the connection between ancient languages but also brought together people from different cultures and backgrounds in a celebration of art and language. The Lithuanian Embassy in association with Vilnius University and the Lithuanian language institute has also published a unique dictionary that showcases the auspicious 108 words in Lithuanian and Sanskrit, which sound and mean the same. The department on its website gave links for its taxpayers to check if their PAN card is linked to their Aadhaar card or not.

Here is a step-by-step guide for you to check the Aadhaar-PAN card link status online:

Since you are linking both your cards, you will have to visit the Income Tax e-filing portal to check the status of the card linking.

First, on the homepage click 'Quick Links,' then click on Aadhaar Status.

After this, a page will open which will have two fields where you need to enter PAN and Aadhaar numbers.

The server then checks the status, and a pop-up message will be displayed. If both Aadhaar and PAN are linked, the message will read, "Your PAN is already linked to given Aadhaar."

However, if both cards are not linked, then this message will appear, "PAN not linked with Aadhaar. Please click on 'Link Aadhaar' to link you Aadhaar with PAN."

But if the link is in progress, then the taxpayer will see this on his/her window, "Your Aadhaar-PAN linking request has been sent to UIDAI for validation. Please check the status later by clicking on 'Link Aadhaar Status' link on Home Page."

Another way for checking the status can be done by logging into the Income Tax portal and by doing the following steps:

After you login into the website, you need to visit the 'Dashboard' on the homepage and then click on the 'Link Aadhaar Staus' option.

You can also go to 'My Profile' and click on the 'Link Aadhaar Status' option.

If your Aadhaar is linked to your PAN card, then the Aadhaar number will be displayed. In case the two documents are not linked, the 'Link Aadhaar Status' will be displayed.

The website will also ask a check the status later if the request to link your Aadhaar with your PAN card is pending with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

The IT Department has also given a facility for checking the status through SMS. You need to send an SMS to 567678 or 56161. If the PAN is linked to the Aadhaar, then this message will be displayed, "Aadhaar is already associated with PAN in ITD Database." If not, then the message will read, "Your Aadhaar is not associated with PAN (number) in ITD Database. Thank you for using our services."

But if you're someone who is not able to link your PAN- Aadhaar due to a mismatch in name, phone number, or date of birth, you can correct your details in either your PAN or Aadhaar database such that both have matching details.

Bengaluru, known for its traffic, can make you wait for hours even when travelling short distances. Many of us opt for auto and bike rides to avoid such situations, as they are more flexible and cheap compared to other forms of transport. However, increasing demand for bike rides has prompted over two lakh auto (two hundred thousand) auto drivers to begin a day's strike in support of their long-pending demands, which includes a ban on bike taxi services. The drivers will be on strike from Sunday (March 19) midnight to Monday (March 20) midnight. Auto drivers have argued that bike taxi services exploit youngsters by luring them with incentives while risking their lives. Here's everything you need to know why auto drivers are on strike and what are their demands, what bike taxi operators claim and what happens next.

What do auto drivers demand?

The Bengaluru Auto Drivers Unions' Federation called for a one-day strike on Sunday, where Adarsh Auto and Taxi Drivers' Union president M Manjunath told news agency PTI, “We have been demanding the government to ban Rapido bike taxis and other whiteboard bike services which are affecting our livelihood. We have submitted a memorandum to the authorities appealing to them to meet our genuine demands, but it has been in vain."

He added that 21 autorickshaw drivers' associations have come together against the bike taxis. Manjunath also mentioned that even some students are using their bikes under the 'Rapido bike services,' to earn more money too.

He claimed they had warned the government not to provide permission, but the latter "turned of a blind eye" to their demands, and the bike drivers continue to operate in the city.

Auto drivers argue that for them it's a must to follow many rules and regulations such as getting permits, paying taxes, ensuring safety standards and charging fares fixed by the government. However, the bike taxis on the other hand do not have any such obligations to follow and charge lower rates.

What do the bike taxi operators say?

Following the accusations by the auto drivers, bike taxi operators have claimed that they have been providing all legal and essential services to the public, especially during the pandemic. They added that they are not competing with auto drivers but complementing them with another form of transport service.

They added that with this service, they are also providing employment to thousands of youngsters who otherwise would have been unemployed.

Bike taxi operators claimed that in states like Telangana, Haryana and Rajasthan they have been allowed to operate "legally," and have urged the Karnataka government to do the same.

Where does the government stand on this?

The Karnataka government has not yet taken any clear stand on the issues, however, the transport department has granted permission to 'Bounce' to run 100 e-bikes in the capital under their Bike Taxi Scheme.

Transport minister Angad Singh while appealing to the auto unions to call off their strikes, said that he will soon hold a talk with auto unions and bike taxi aggregators to resolve the differences.
