One person was left dead while three were injured after a shooting incident at a birthday party in the southeastern US state of Alabama, late on Friday night. The incident took place in the Birmingham city of the state. According to Truman Fitzgerald, the Birmingham Police public information officer, the department received calls of multiple people being shot in the 900 block of 47th Street North at around 10 pm local time. Upon reaching the scene, the police officers managed to find one woman and three men injured in front of an apartment building. The Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service was pressed into action and the victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, one of the men succumbed to the injuries after initial treatment. Fitzgerald added that while men were shot, the woman suffered injuries not caused by gunfire. The preliminary investigation revealed that a birthday party was happening in the area when an 'unidentified' assailant approached the party attendees and opened fire. So far, the police do not have any major lead nor do they have any suspect in custody. The officials, on Monday (May 8), said that they have arrested a 58-year-old man in Southwest Louisiana, United States after he allegedly shot at a group of children playing hide-and-seek, one of whom was injured. According to the local sheriff’s office, the accused is facing aggravated assault and battery charges.

The incident took place in a small town named Starks, in the state of Louisiana which borders Texas, early Sunday. The man, later identified as David V. Doyle, is currently in the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center on Tuesday morning. The 14-year-old girl, as per the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, suffered a gunshot wound to the back of the head and was taken to the hospital.

As of Monday, the victim’s injuries were not considered as life-threatening. A group of juveniles “were playing hide and seek in the area and were hiding on the neighbour’s property,” said the officials, when Doyle allegedly fired his weapon. The accused told the detectives that “he observed shadows outside his home, at which time he went inside and retrieved his firearm.”

Subsequently, “he went back outside and observed people running away from his property, at which time he began shooting at them and unknowingly hit the girl,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a statement. According to the officials, Doyle was arrested and charged with aggravated battery, four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, and illegal discharge of a firearm.

Steven Spainhouer, a former officer in the US Army and police, claims to be a "gun lover" and feels at ease around firearms. Spainhouer, though, is now fiercely advocating for gun control after witnessing a man with a rifle kill many people before being fatally shot by police outside a suburban Dallas mall on Saturday.

“We need some action in our legislatures at the federal and state level for better gun control,” he said in an interview with MSNBC a day after the mass killing outside Premium Outlets in Allen, Texas.

Spainhouer recalled running to the mall after receiving a call from his son informing him that he had heard a shooting. He arrived before first responders and gave CPR to some people who had been shot to death, reported the Guardian.

Spainhouer described the atrocities he witnessed first-hand in a separate interview with CBS.

“The first girl I walked up to was crouched down covering her head in the bushes. So I felt for a pulse, pulled her head to the side and she had no face,” he told CBS.

Investigators discovered that Mauricio Garcia, 33, shot eight people to death and seven others in the vicinity of the Allen Mall. The attacker was fatally shot by a police officer who had gone to the mall for an unrelated incident; a law enforcement official later revealed to the Associated Press that Garcia had shown interest in white supremacist ideologies before committing the mass murder.

US: Shooting incident near Las Vegas middle school, at least one shot; police search for suspect

A recent shooting incident that occurred in South Florida, United States, and left one boy dead and another man wounded was called a “random act” by sheriff’s officials, on Friday (May 5), as they continue to investigate what led to the shooting.

According to Broward County Sheriff’s officials, a gunman fatally shot a 12-year-old boy and wounded a man before turning the gun on himself inside a South Florida convenience store reported the Associated Press.

“Detectives do not believe there is any connection between the gunman and the victims; this does appear to be a random act,” said sheriff’s spokesman Carey Codd at a press conference on Friday. He added, “There does not appear to be a connection between the two victims.” However, further investigation into the incident is underway.

The report citing the county’s sheriff’s deputies, said a 29-year-old later identified as Darren Rosenthal, shot a man sitting in his car outside a 7-Eleven in South Florida’s Dania Beach. The police received an alert about the shooting at around 11:00 pm (local time), on Thursday.

Subsequently, Rosenthal reportedly went inside the suburban Fort Lauderdale store and killed the 12-year-old boy before killing himself. The names of the 12-year-old boy killed and the man injured have not been released. Meanwhile, a store worker Maximo Limas said Rosenthal gave no warning before he started shooting, as per AP.

The man wounded was “chilling in his car, minding his business,” before Rosenthal allegedly shot him in the neck, said Limas, as quoted by the US media reports. He added, “He killed a…boy and he just killed himself”.

“He shot a customer (and) the kid just wanted to buy ice cream. That's all he was doing,” said Limas. According to the officials, the boy died on the scene. Media reports citing Miami-Dade County court records have reported that the perpetrator had several misdemeanour drugs and alcohol-related arrests about eight years ago.

US: ‘Random’ shooting killed 12-year-old boy at Florida store, left man injured, say cops

At least four people were killed in a small city in rural south Georgia, United States, on Thursday (May 4) after a gunman shot a fast food worker and two of its relatives, before taking his own life.

Colquitt County Coroner C. Verlyn Brock told The Associated Press, that the shooter killed his mother and grandmother at two neighbouring homes and killed a woman at a McDonald’s restaurant in downtown Moultrie.

The 26-year-old gunman shot dead his 50-year-old mother and 74-year-old grandmother at two neighbouring homes and killed a woman, aged 41, Brock told AP. He also said that all three women appeared to have been shot multiple times.

The shooter was later identified as Kentavious White who fatally shot his manager identified as 41-year-old Amia Smith, said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The security camera footage from McDonald’s in Moultrie showed White, shooting the store manager after getting her to come to the door Thursday morning.

They also found two women related to White had been shot at neighbouring homes which were less than 3.2 kilometres away, said the GBI, in a statement on Thursday evening, adding that one of the women passed away after being taken to a hospital.

Previously, the GBI said in a statement only that there had been “multiple fatalities” at different crime scenes in the area, reported the AP. The state's leading law enforcement agency also said Moultrie Police Department requested its assistance.

An eyewitness Sabrina Holweger, as per AP, said that police blocked off a main street that runs in front of the McDonald’s. According to Holweger, the woman who died at the restaurant was the early morning manager and that the shooter was an employee.

Brock told CBS News the shooter shot his mother and grandmother at their homes. The media report also said that his mother died at the scene, but the grandmother, who lived next door to her daughter, was taken to the hospital and passed away.

In a statement, George Suarez, owner and operator of the McDonald’s in Moultrie, said that the restaurant will be closed until further notice. "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved restaurant manager, and our hearts go out to all the victims of this senseless act of violence," said Suarez.

The city where the incident occurred, Moultrie, is approximately three hours south of the state capital city of Atlanta, where at least one person was killed and four others were injured after a shooting incident in the waiting room of a medical facility.

US: Gunman in south Georgia town kills three before shooting himself

The search for the Texas gunman who allegedly killed five of his neighbours including a young boy entered its third day with false alarms and few apparent leads, as of Monday (May 1). Meanwhile, a United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) source told CNN that the suspect had entered the country illegally and been deported by immigration officials at least four times.

Suspect was an illegal immigrant

A report by CNN, citing the ICE source also said that the suspect identified by ICE as Francisco Oropesa Perez-Torres was first removed by an immigration judge back in 2009. However, the suspect’s current immigration status remains unclear and it is also not known how long he was in the US since last deported.

“At an unknown time and location, Perez-Torres unlawfully reentered the United States, and was apprehended and removed several more times by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in September 2009, January 2012, and July 2016,” the ICE source, who was not named, told CNN on Monday.

In a statement, the ICE also said that it identified the suspect as a Mexican and confirmed that he was apprehended and deported several times. Oropesa was also convicted of driving while intoxicated in January 2012 in Montgomery County, Texas and sentenced to jail, said ICE on Monday.

Oropesa remains at large

The FBI agent on the scene near Houston acknowledged they have little to go on as of now, and are widening the manhunt, reported the Associated Press. The news agency citing the suspect’s neighbours said they had lived on the street for years now, and said Oropeza has been deported four times since 2009.

This comes as more than 250 law enforcement officials are involved in Oropesa’s manhunt, while the suspect, as per an FBI official, is considered armed and dangerous. However, despite the involvement of US Marshals, additional manpower, scent-tracking dogs, and even a total of $80,000 in reward money, there is no sign of the suspect.

“I can tell you right now, we have zero leads,” James Smith, the FBI special agent in charge of the case, said Sunday. As of late afternoon Monday, there have been no updates from law enforcement while the trail had apparently gone cold a day prior.

What happened on Friday?

After neighbours asked him to stop firing his rifle, the suspect stepped out of his house on Friday night and started shooting off rounds with an AR-15-style rifle in his yard, San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers said on Saturday. The shooting took place at a Cleveland, Texas, home.

Wilson Garcia, the father of the one-month-old, and two other men, had walked over to Oropesa’s yard to ask him to stop shooting so close to their home because their baby was sleeping, Garcia told CNN. At a vigil on Sunday, he had also recalled the terrifying efforts of hiding and shielding themselves and their children after Oropeza walked up to the home and began firing, killing his wife first at the front door.

The gunman shot Garcia's wife Sonia Argentina Guzman, before killing three other adults - Diana Velazquez Alvarado (21), Julisa Molina Rivera (31), Jose Jonathan Casarez (18) - and Garcia’s son, Daniel Enrique Laso-Guzman (8).

According to the FBI, They were all believed to be living in the house but were not members of a single family.

Texas man accused of killing five people was deported four times; search enters third day

A government-sponsored buyback programme in New York saw people surrender more than 3,000 guns in exchange for gift cards. These guns were collected over a single day, on Saturday (April 29), across New York state.

“We recovered 3,076 guns today, including 185 assault weapons. Every single one of these guns represents a potential tragedy averted,” tweeted Letitia James, New York Attorney General. Her office hosted Saturday's programme.

ABC News reported that for surrendering untraceable "ghost guns" and assault-type rifles, people were given USD 500 gift cards. No questions were asked. If a person surrendered a handgun, they got USD 500 for the first weapon and USD 150 for subsequent weapons.

New York: People surrender more than 3,000 guns in exchange for gift cards

Every recent American mass shooting has been followed by a political play that has become all too common: Democrats demand additional gun control laws, such as banning assault-style weapons, and note how the US is unique among industrialised nations in its high levels of gun violence. Republicans argue that any gun control measures would be ineffective because the US Constitution upholds the right to own firearms.

Six-year-old shot after basketball rolls into North Carolina man's yard, suspect held in Florida

Menace of mass shooting has reared its ugly head once again in the United States. At least four were killed and nine wounded at a bank in downtown Louisville, Kentucky on the 10th of April. The attacker, a 23-year-old employee of the bank, livestreamed the attack over the internet. He was later shot down by the responding law enforcement officials. Bafflingly, Monday's mass shooting in Louisville was the 146th of the year. In addition to this, two more attacks took place over the past week in the United States. Three were injured and shoppers evacuated from a Delaware mall on 8th of April and four people were shot outside a funeral home in the capital, Washington D.C. on 11th of April. What explains these frequent mass shootings?

A grand jury in the US state of Virginia indicted the mother of a six-year-old boy, on Monday (April 10) after he shot his teacher, earlier this year. The incident took place, in January when a boy shot his elementary school teacher in the city of Newport News, United States. After months, his mother, Deja Taylor has been charged with child neglect and one count of a firearm-related offence, said the office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney.

This also comes a month after Newport News Commonwealth’s Attorney Howard Gwynn had said that the child will not be criminally charged. Meanwhile, his 25-year-old mother was indicted by a grand jury and was charged with felony child neglect and a misdemeanour charge of endangering a child by reckless storage of a firearm, said Gwynn, in a statement.

Taylor’s son had shot Abigail Zwerner, a 25-year-old teacher, who earlier this month also filed a $40 million negligence lawsuit against the school authorities following the incident at Richneck Elementary School. Zwerner who was shot on January 6 was later taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her hand and chest, as per media reports citing officials.

According to the statement, the indictment, on Monday, comes after a “thorough investigation” from the police and the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office. “Every criminal case is unique in its facts, and these facts support these charges, but our investigation into the shooting continues,” said Gwynn. The prosecutor has also said that the grand jury would continue to investigate and consider if additional charges are warranted in this case.

Meanwhile, one of the attorneys for the family, James Ellenson in a statement said that Taylor “will be turning herself in later this week,” reported CNN. He also reportedly declined to further comment on the indictment.

Last week, Ellenson also said that the allegations in the lawsuit against the child and the family “should be taken with a large grain of salt.” He added, “We of course continue to pray for Ms. Zwerner’s complete recovery.” This came after the 25-year-old teacher had filed the lawsuit which sought $40 million in compensatory damages. She alleged that the school staff and officials were aware of the student’s “history of random violence.”

The lawsuit also accuses the then-assistant principal of overlooking the concerns raised by several teachers and staff members which also included warnings over the six-year-old’s possible possession of a firearm and did not act proactively. US gun violence has stoked widespread protests across the United States in recent days, after as many as 9,800 people reportedly died due to gun violence in just the first three months of 2023, a figure that also includes self-inflicted deaths by suicide apart from regular acts of mass gun violence. Last week, three Democratic Party politicians led a gun control protest at the Tennessee Capitol, calling for tighter gun controls after the Nashville school shooting on March 27. Both Democrat lawmakers, Justin Jones and Justin Pearson were expelled from Tennessee statehouse on Thursday (April 6). The Republican-controlled house said that the trio had brought "disorder and dishonour to the House". The Republican-controlled House of Representatives voted 72-25 to expel Justin Jones and 69-26 to remove Justin Pearson. However, the vote against a third Democratic lawmaker, Gloria Johnson, a white person, who also joined the protest with Jones and Pearson, fell short by one vote. "A state in which the Ku Klux Klan was founded is now attempting another power grab by silencing the two youngest Black representatives," Justin Jones said after the votes, referring to the 19th century white supremacist group which targeted Black Americans, Jews, Native Americans and homosexuals with an explicit racist overdrive. ALSO WATCH | 2 Democrats expelled from Tennessee house for protesting against gun laws × Jones told BBC News that an "extreme Republican supermajority, almost completely a white caucus" had expelled the "two youngest black lawmakers because we stood demanding action on gun violence". The March 27 attack at a Nashville School killed six people, including three nine-year-old children. The three Democrat lawmakers, dubbed "Tennessee Three", took to the Tennessee House floor, chanting "no action, no peace" during a protest on March 30. The protest saw hundreds of pro-gun control demonstrators coming in front of the statehouse, demanding strict gun controls. Jones, 27, and Pearson, 28, the two youngest members of the legislature, used a megaphone and banged the House lectern as they made rousing speeches and addressed the protesters who crowded around the chamber's public viewing platform. "We don't want to be up here, but we have no choice but to find a way... to disrupt business as normal, because business as normal is our children dying," Pearson said. All three also chanted "enough is enough" and "power to the people". US President Joe Biden, a Democrat, slammed the expulsions as "shocking, undemocratic, and without precedent". In Tennessee, the House of Representatives has only twice voted to expel members, first in 1980 when a lawmaker convicted of soliciting a bribe was removed and then in 2016, when a lawmaker facing accusations of sexual misconduct was removed. People in the United States own more guns than anywhere else in the world. According to a 2018 report by Geneva-based Small Arms Survey, US gun owners own 393.3 million weapons, translating into 120.5 firearms per 100 residents. US: Tennessee House expels two Black Democrats for gun violence protests, spares White lawmaker

A well-known US YouTuber who finds delight in making videos in which he exhibits unusual behaviour to scare others plans to continue making them, despite the fact that one of his targets allegedly shot him close to death.

Tanner Cook reportedly played a practical joke on a man at a mall in the Dulles, Virginia, outside of Washington at around lunchtime on Sunday for the almost 40,000 followers of the channel Classified Goons, as reported by the Guardian.

Authorities and an interview Cook gave to the neighbourhood TV station WUSA both claim that he was being recorded by a buddy when events took a nearly fatal turn.

Investigators said that the man, identified as 31-year-old Alan Colie, drew a gun and shot Cook in the stomach. Cook, 21, was in critical condition when first responders took him to the hospital, but he survived the wound and needed surgery.

“I was playing a … simple … joke, and this guy didn’t take it very well,” Cook told WUSA from his hospital bed.

Cook claimed the shooter "didn't say anything" before opening fire on him, which according to authorities also sparked panic among shoppers in the mall.

Colie, according to the report, was detained by police while seated in the food court of the mall near a gun. He was then charged with aggravated malicious injury, shooting while committing a crime, and firing a gun into an occupied structure. Cook's father, Jeramy, stated that they were certain he would make a full recovery. Jeramy Cook said to WUSA, "We live on faith, not fear." According to Tanner Cook, he is not upset with Colie. He added that creating videos is his life's passion and he has no intention of letting the shooting deter him. WATCH WION LIVE HERE:
