<p>Hollywood’s awards season kicked off with the <strong>Golden Globes 2021</strong> albeit a little dulled down amid the coronavirus pandemic as the first awards of the year were held virtually with most celebrities tuning in from their homes. While the awards were celebrated with an outpour of love and support by fans and fellow celebrities for the winners of the Golden Globes awards, however, many have slammed the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) for the lack of diversity in people who are a part of the voting members. There are zero Black voters among the HFPA members for this award and the Hollywood stars are not taking this lightly.</p>

<p>Currently, there are 87 journalists who vote for the Golden Globes and not one of them is Black. <p>Sterling K Brown who was a presenter at this year’s Golden Globes award shared a lengthy statement: “To be nominated for a Golden Globe is a tremendous honor. To win one is a dream come true. It can affect the trajectory of an individual’s career…it certainly has with mine,” Sterling said. “I’m presenting at the telecast this weekend to honor all the story tellers, especially those of color, who have achieved this extraordinary moment in their careers…AND I have my criticisms of the #HFPA.”</p>

<p>He continued, “87 people wield a tremendous amount of power. For any governing body of a current Hollywood award show to have such a lack of voting representation illustrates a level of irresponsibility that should not be ignored. With the power you have HFPA, you simultaneously hold a responsibility to ensure your constituency is fully reflective of the world in which we live. When you know better, you must do better. And having a multitude of Black presenters does not absolve you of your lack of diversity. This is your moment to do the right thing. It is my hope that you will.”</p>

<p>Jennifer Aniston shared an Instagram story stating not a single Black member out of 87.</p>

Golden Globes 2021: Celebs slam Hollywood Foreign Press Association for having zero Black voters

<p>A week before the 78th annual Golden Globe Awards, the organization behind the ceremony is facing a scathing exposé regarding the functioning and ethics of the organisation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to LA Times, there are zero Black journalists among the 87 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and the organization, whose ethics have long been questioned, dating back to an FCC investigation that led to a broadcast ban from 1968-74 and the Pia Zadora scandal of 1982, is continuing to allow its members to behave in ways that call into question their ethics and integrity.</p>

<p>The HFPA is not only allowing its members to receive lavish perks from the studios and networks whose projects they later write about and vote on, such as a junket in France that might help explain recent Golden Globe nominations for the critically maligned TV series Emily in Paris, among other head-scratchers. But the organization, which is a nonprofit, is also paying its own members,&nbsp;substantial amounts of money to serve as officers and on various committees.</p>

<p>Norwegian journalist Kjersti Flaa filed an antitrust lawsuit against the HFPA last year alleging that the organization was depriving her of potential income by barring her and other qualified journalists from becoming members in order to protect the sale value of current members’ reportage in various international territories.&nbsp;<br />

Lack of Black members in HFPA raises questions about ethics of Golden Globe voters

<p>Nothing was off the table for British comedian and actor Ricky Gervais as he took the role of a host at the Golden Globe awards on Sunday. This was his fifth time hosting the awards and he cracked scathing jokes about Hollywood's elite that got both laughs and disapproving looks from the A-list audience.</p>

<p>Gervais, known for his no-holds-barred style of comedy, joked about Hollywood's lack of diversity, film producer Harvey Weinstein, who has been accused by more than 80 women of sexual misconduct, and the suicide of financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.</p>

<p>"Let's have a laugh at your expense," Gervais said at the start of his opening monologue, in which he vowed that the ceremony would be his last time hosting. "Remember we're all gonna die soon. And there's no sequel."</p>

<p>Gervais last hosted the Globes four years ago, before the #MeToo and #OscarsSoWhite movements shined a spotlight on the underrepresentation of women and minorities in Hollywood.</p>

<p>He said the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which hands out the Golden Globes, had planned to have a segment honoring celebrities who died in 2019, "but when I saw the list of people who died, it wasn't diverse enough."</p>

<p>Gervais also called out Hollywood actors as hypocrites for giving impassioned political speeches at awards shows while working in movies or television series produced by major tech and media corporations.</p>

<p>"You say you're woke, but the companies you work for - I mean, unbelievable - Apple, Amazon, Disney. If ISIS started a streaming service, you'd call your agent, wouldn't ya?," he asked.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"So if you do win an award tonight, don't use it as a platform to make a political speech. You are in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg.</p>
