Bahrain has a wide selection of vegetarian restaurants. The first one I tried was Asha&rsquo;s curated by none other than the Indian music icon Asha Bhosle herself. From food including Palak patta chaat and samosa chaat to delicious paneer makhni, the restaurant had a lot to offer. With Asha Bhosle&rsquo;s music playing the background to a stunning wall curated with her images, the restaurant screamed Indian. However, a simple look outside the window would tell you that you are in Bahrain. With views of the canal and a stunning skyline - the restaurant is modern and chic.
My next stop was Rasmalai. As the name very much suggests, the restaurant had a selection of Indian food. From mango lassi, onion bhajiyas and delicious vegetarian biryani, I didn&rsquo;t miss home at all. To top it off, the chef came out himself and spoke to me in Hindi. He also treated us with a Rasmalai on the house since I am Indian. A sweet gesture indeed. Located in a happening area, Rasmalai has a lot of restaurants and shops around. We came back to the Rasmalai vicinity to try Plant Cafe, a hundred percent vegan cafe serving a multi cuisine menu. With the values of Ayurveda and yoga, the German Saudi restaurant owner had created a menu with nothing to miss. From aloo paratha to vegan sushi to mac and cheese, there was pretty much everything here. I loved their ambience too - it felt freeing strangely. To be in a majority Muslim country and still cater to a vegan audience was a brave business model to run.

With small artwork from diverse regions of the world adorning the walls, it was tough to sit in one place and not get up to click images. The place looked charming and airy. There was also an element of sunlight with window-paneled roofs that led to stunning views of the sky. While I mostly saw rich Bahrainis dining at Villa Mamas, I knew it&rsquo;s a space tourists frequent to often. As an award-winning cafe, the owner has taken the cafe to other countries creating a huge demand for tables. My guide booked my table three weeks in advance.

They identified a 'stretch receptor' in the esophagus of the larvae&nbsp;that's linked to specific neurons in the brain of the fruit fly.&nbsp;

They found that some of these neurons play a role in detecting the quality of food and the happy hormone 'serotonin' is released when the food is good.

"[The neurons] can detect whether it is food or not and also evaluate its quality. They only produce serotonin if good quality food is detected, which in turn ensures that the larva continues to eat," ScienceAlert quoted neuroscientist Andreas Schoofs from the University of Bonn as saying.

This then triggers more desire for eating.&nbsp;

In the video, it was seen that yellow-colored liquid is being mixed with orange food coloring along with sugar syrup. Then the processed liquid is filled in canned bottles made from plastic paper. After that, they are sealed in large cartons, preparing them for supply in the market. The video went viral, outraging the internet, for betraying the trusted loyal consumers of the product, who were under the illusion that these renowned brands use good and natural products for making these juice boxes. Netizens’ disappointments The comments filled with rage. One user said, “Thank goodness I kept my family away from Coke or any bottled soft drinks, fruit juices… they are over 30 and till date no Coke or packaged fruit juices come home.” Another user, expressing his anger, said, “Slow poison… and the government is behind them.” A third user, promising not to buy mango juice containers, said, “I am not buying any more juice from the store because of this video.”

According to a study published in The Lancet Global Health journal, people in India are not consuming a proper nutritional diet which is said to be&nbsp;resulting in micronutrient deficiencies.

Micronutrients, which include vitamins and minerals, play a significant role in maintaining proper bodily functions. They&nbsp;are essential in smaller amounts&nbsp;like fats and carbohydrates&nbsp;are vital components for good health.

The&nbsp;study, conducted by Harvard University,&nbsp;shows the insufficient consumption of 15 micronutrients&nbsp;taken through a regular diet without any additional supplements,&nbsp;among 185 countries.&nbsp;

Across the world, there are over five billion people whose&nbsp;diets&nbsp;do not include iodine, vitamin E, and calcium, according to the researchers.

In India, women intake less iodine compared to men, as per the study. It also noted that males consume less zinc and magnesium in comparison to women.

Researchers at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), stated micronutrient deficiencies are the most common type of malnutrition at the global level.

“Each deficiency carries its own health consequences, from adverse pregnancy outcomes, to blindness, to increased susceptibility to infectious diseases,” the researchers said.

In this study, the authors used data available from global dietary sources, to calculate the insufficient nutrient intake for 99.3 per cent of the world population.

World's first study on common food aromas may help scientists understand why astronauts report that meals taste bland in space even as they struggle for their normal nutritional intake.&nbsp;

Scientists from RMIT University have led a study, which was published on Tuesday (Jul 16) in the International Journal of Food Science and Technology.&nbsp;

"Previous astronauts or space travellers have reported that food doesn’t taste the same in space as it does on Earth," first author Grace Loke, a PhD candidate at RMIT, told COSMOS.&nbsp;

"Imagine having your meals pre-planned months ahead because they tasted good on Earth, only to dislike them in space. Usually, flavour is lost," Loke added.&nbsp;

The study involved a&nbsp;sample size as it included 54 adults. "One of the long-term aims of the research is to make better tailored foods for astronauts, as well as other people who are in isolated environments, to increase their nutritional intake closer to 100%," Low said.&nbsp;

The researchers also studied the phenomenon of fluid shift and complemented results from other studies based on eating experiences in space.&nbsp;

The study mentioned that fluid moves from the lower to the higher regions of the body while one is weightless, causing swelling in the face and congestion in the nose. This eventually impacts taste and smell. However, these symptoms vanish a few weeks after entering the space station in most cases.&nbsp;

"Astronauts are still not enjoying their food even after fluid shift effects have gone, suggesting that there's something more to this," Low said.
