Talking about his goal after the game, the 19-year-old said: "I can't believe it," Garnacho said. "To be honest, I just turned around and thought, 'Oh my God.'"

Ten Hag, however, thinks it's not fair to compare Garnacho to Rooney or Ronaldo just yet and the youngster has to work very hard for it.

"Don't compare, I don't think it is right," said Ten Hag. "They all have their own identity, but for Garnacho to go that way he has a lot to come, he has to work very hard. You have to do it on a consistent basis and so far he has not."

The manager agreed that the 19-year-old has potential to do amazing things but he has to be consistent.

"But he definitely has high potential to do some amazing things, it's not the first time we saw this. We have already often seen glimpses, but if you want to be a player like Rooney or Ronaldo you have to score 20, 25 goals in the Premier League each season. That's not easy to get, you have to work hard, you have to go in areas where it hurts. So a lot to come. But potential, he has it."

The goal by Garnacho was first of three scored by the United during their 3-0 win. The result also saw them climb up to sixth place on the points table with 24 points after eight wins and five losses in 13 games. Marcus Rashford (56th minute by penalty) and Anthony Martial (72nd minute) were others to score for the United.

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has died aged 78 after a battle with cancer, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday.

"Everton Football Club is in mourning following the death of chairman Bill Kenwright, who passed away peacefully last night aged 78, surrounded by his family and loved ones," the club reported.

Kenwright, who succeeded Phillip Carter as chairman in 2004 after first joining the board at Goodison Park in 1989, passed away following surgery to have a cancerous tumour removed from his liver in August.

Liverpool-born Kenwright, who was married to British actor Jenny Seagrove, was a successful theatre impresario and film producer when he joined the Everton board in 1989.

"The club has lost a chairman, a leader, a friend, and an inspiration," Everton added.

"The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Everton are with his partner Jenny Seagrove, his daughter Lucy Kenwright, grandchildren and everybody who knew and loved him."

Kenwright bought a majority 68-percent stake in the club in 1999 and became deputy chairman before replacing Carter at the helm.

It was announced last month that a deal to sell the club to American investment firm 777 Partners had been agreed.

Premier League: Everton chairman Bill Kenwright dies aged 78

Everton have been sold to 777 Partners, the struggling Premier League club said on Friday, with the U.S. private equity firm taking over from Farhad Moshiri in a deal reports said was worth more than 550 million pounds ($685 million).

The Miami-based investment fund said it had signed an agreement with British-Iranian billionaire Moshiri to acquire his 94.1% stake in the club. The deal is expected to be closed by the end of the year, a club statement said.

"We are truly humbled by the opportunity to become part of the Everton family as custodians of the club, and consider it a privilege to be able to build on its proud heritage and values," said Josh Wander, founder and managing partner of 777 Partners.

The firm 777 Partners has a number of clubs in its portfolio, including Italian side Genoa and Belgian team Standard Liege, while they also have stakes in LaLiga club Sevilla and Australian A-League side Melbourne Victory.

Moshiri, a former Arsenal shareholder, first bought a 49.9% stake in Everton in 2016. By January 2022, he had increased his stake to 94.1% with a 100 million pounds capital injection.

But despite investing nearly 750 million euros ($799.65 million) in transfers to build the squad since Moshiri's arrival, Everton have slipped out of the top half of the table to fight relegation battles in recent seasons.

Everton's most recent figures showed a fifth straight year of losses -- 44.7 million pounds for the 2021-22 season -- with their total loss over that period amounting to over 430 million pounds.

Under Premier League rules, teams can make a maximum loss of 105 million pounds over three years, although special allowances were made for the COVID-19 pandemic. 
Everton are also in the midst of an investigation into alleged breaches of Premier League financial fair play rules, but chairman Bill Kenwright said in April they were confident the Merseyside club were compliant of all financial rules.

The club is set to go before an independent commission next month over the alleged breaches.

They have also invested in building a new stadium on Bramley Moore-Dock in Liverpool's Vauxhall area, with Moshiri saying it would cost 760 million pounds.

Everton's statement said the investment from 777 Partners would strengthen the club's balance sheet and guarantee "full funding" of the stadium.

"We are committed to partnering with the local community over the long term, working on important projects such as the development of Bramley-Moore Dock as a world-class stadium venue," Wander added.

Everton narrowly avoided relegation from the top flight in each of the last two seasons and are currently 18th in the standings without a win in four games this season.

"It is through my lengthy discussions with 777 that I believe they are the best partners to take our great club forward, with all the benefits of their multi-club investment model," Moshiri said. "Today is an important next step in the successful development of Everton and I look forward to closely following as our Club goes from strength to strength."

"(My childhood is) something I haven't really spoken about that much, to be honest. I mean, I think there were a few incidents that could give you kind of a brief understanding," Alli said.&nbsp;

Alli first tasted Premier League football in 2015 and scored on his debut against Leicester City at the King Power stadium for Tottenham. He would then go on to form a formidable partnership with Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane as Spurs enjoyed a brilliant next four years.&nbsp;

"So, at six, I was molested by my mum's friend, who was at the house a lot. My mum was an alcoholic, and that happened at six. I was sent to Africa to learn discipline, and then I was sent back."

"At seven, I started smoking, eight I started dealing drugs. An older person told me that they wouldn't stop a kid on a bike, so I rode around with my football, and then underneath I'd have the drugs, that was eight. Eleven, I was hung off a bridge by a guy from the next estate, a man."

"Twelve, I was adopted... I was adopted by an amazing family like I said, I couldn't have asked for better people to do what they'd done for me. If God created people, it was them," he added.

Alli, 27, was one of former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino's trusted men in midfield and helped the team reach the 2019 Champions League final. He was also part of the England squad that reached the World Cup semi-finals in 2018 where he scored twice for the national side including a goal in the last eight against Sweden. However, his career has since been on a downward trend, falling out of favour with new managers at Spurs including Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte which prompted his&nbsp;move to Everton, who loaned him to Besiktas in 2022, where he failed to rediscover his form for the Turkish side.&nbsp;

He decided to speak on his struggles so as to start a dialogue and help others who might have suffered abuse. The rehab spell has done him a lot of good as it helped to fuel his love and passion for the beautiful game, with the objective of getting his football career back on track.

"Going into rehab is definitely scary but I could never have imagined how much I would get from it and how much it would help me mentally. I was in a bad place. A lot happened when I was younger that I could never understand," added an emotional Alli.&nbsp;

The player emphasised the fact that the dangers of sleeping pill addiction are widespread, as many footballers are using prescribed tablets before and after matches.

"To take a sleeping tablet and be ready for the next day is fine, but when you're broken as I am, it can obviously have the reverse effect because it does work for the problems you want to deal with," he said.

He struggled in Turkey, scoring twice in 13 games before returning to Everton in April 2023 with an injury that required surgery. His last appearance in a Besiktas shirt was against Antalyaspor on February 26. &nbsp;

Representing the Hammers, Baptiste, 19, is tipped to be the next big thing in English football and dimmed as the next Jadon Sancho and Phil Foden.

<h2>Big career ahead</h2>

Tipped to scale incredible peaks in his career, the defender penned his first professional contract with West Ham United FC when he was 17.

Last season, he became their second youngest representative at the U23 level in addition to turning up for the England national team in the U18 age group as well. Many at West Ham compared him to fellow academy graduate Declan Rice, who has progressed to see roaring success both at the club and the international level in the last few years.

Baptiste is part of the West Ham squad that is touring India for the Premier League Next Generation Cup. But, obviously, looking at the older players back there and seeing how they added themselves in a big group with younger players, it’s been done quite well and it’s a good experience. You can tell them (younger players) what they are doing right and doing wrong,” Baptiste said.

English club coaches that are set to participate in the upcoming Reliance Foundation presents Premier League Next Generation Cup collectively encouraged Indian players to embrace the challenges they will face in the tournament starting May 17, 2023. The visiting squads of Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, West Ham United FC and Everton went through their first training sessions since landing in India on Tuesday (May 16).

“Embrace the opportunity. It’s a fantastic event. It’s a great opportunity for them to test themselves against some of the best teams in England. Wolves and West Ham alongside us – three really prestigious academies back in the United Kingdom (UK),” Everton coach Kieran Driscoll conveyed his message to the four Indian clubs that have qualified for the tournament.

West Ham United coach Lauris Coggin asked the Indian players to keep their calm and be in the moment. He suggested them to put in a cohesive and collective effort in addition to taking their time early on in the game to assess the opposition and conditions that they come across.

“Take your time. First five minutes, understand what the opponent is going to offer, the pitch, the weather, the platform. Take as much information as you can in the initial moments; help each other in the difficult moments and try to slow the game down,” Coggin quipped.

Many Indian players harbour hopes of playing abroad, particularly in the Europe, as they rise through the ranks here. ATK Mohun Bagan’s star forward, Kiyan Nassiri, seconded this notion during one of his interactions with the media.

“Of course, 100 per cent, I see myself playing abroad. Everyone wants to play first for the national team and then possibly go to play (for an international club),” Nassiri had mentioned.

Wolves coach James Collins agrees with the same. He believes that it is extremely difficult for clubs across the world to get a hang of their counterparts at the junior level unless they play against them in some competition. The Reliance Foundation presents Premier League Next Generation Cup, he believes, will enable the Indian players get a first-hand experience of the standards they need to uphold to secure lucrative opportunities of playing in Europe.

“I think what it does for the Indian players is it gives them an idea of the standard (of football in Europe). It’s very difficult to know what a U-18, U-19 or an U-20 player looks like in England, if you have not played against them or seen them. It’s very similar in India. We don’t know until we play against them. I think one should know what you are competing with as it gives you a fighting chance of getting yourself to the standard required,” Collins claimed.

“If you don’t know, it’s more difficult. So, hopefully competitions like these will give the next generation of Indian talent a good idea of where they stand in order of getting there and hopefully one or two of them will,” Collins signed off.

The tournament kicks off on Wednesday, May 17 at the Reliance Corporate Park (RCP) in Mumbai with Wolves and Everton taking on each other and West Ham United locking horns with RFDL third-place occupants ATK Mohun Bagan.

Everton's Alex Iwobi rescued a 2-2 draw against relegation rivals Leicester, but it was the Foxes who climbed out of the Premier League's bottom three after Monday's pivotal showdown.

Iwobi scored a second-half equaliser at the King Power Stadium after James Maddison wasted a chance to put Leicester 3-1 up when his penalty was saved by Jordan Pickford.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin put Everton in front with an early penalty, before Leicester hit back with goals from Caglar Soyuncu and Jamie Vardy.

Leicester, who have won one of their last 12 league games, moved out of the relegation zone on goal difference.

The Foxes, Premier League champions in 2016, are fighting to avoid playing in the Championship for the first time in nine years.

"We missed a penalty for 3-1, but also in the first half we were second best for long periods," Leicester boss Dean Smith said.

"We knew the result today would not define what happens. We came out of the bottom three, but there are still four games to go."

Everton, who last played in the second tier in 1954, remain in 19th place.

Sean Dyche's side are one point from safety with four games left for each of the bottom five clubs.

Everton narrowly escaped relegation last season under Frank Lampard, but their struggles again this term led to Dyche's appointment in January.

The Toffees beat Arsenal and Leeds in two of Dyche's first three games, but have won just one of the 11 games since then, sparking furious fan protests against the club hierarchy.

"We held our nerve, kept trying to create things and overall it's a good performance, although we didn't get the three points," Dyche said.

"I didn't come here for a walk in the part. I knew it was going to be a challenge. The only crime tonight was two really soft goals, but the mentality is what we want."

Despite the mutinous mood among Everton's travelling fans, they took the lead in the 15th minute.

Timothy Castagne needlessly conceded a penalty with a rash shove on Calvert-Lewin as the striker tried to control Seamus Coleman's lofted pass.

Calvert-Lewin smashed the spot-kick into the roof of the net for his first goal since October and only his second of an injury-plagued campaign.

Leicester needed a response and they delivered emphatically with two goals in the space of 11 minutes.

Harvey Barnes' 22nd-minute cross was headed back across goal by Wout Faes and Soyuncu pounced with a half-volley that eluded Jordan Pickford's weak attempted save.

Everton's creaky defence was exposed again after 33 minutes.

Iwobi lost possession too easily and Vardy rolled back the years with a blistering run to reach Maddison's pass and round Pickford for a cool finish.

Everton were in disarray at the back and Michael Keane conceded a penalty in first-half stoppage time when he blocked Barnes' cross with his out-stretched arm.

But Maddison blasted his penalty straight at Pickford to give Everton renewed hope.

The save was also a tribute to England keeper Pickford's preparation.&nbsp;

Television cameras showed an image of his water bottle in the back of the net covered in details about potential Leicester penalty takers, including the note: "James Maddison - Stay - 60 percent centre".

"I did my homework. I called it this morning where I would go. He is a good player and he would've expected me to move but I double-bluffed him," Pickford said.

Iwobi made Maddison pay for his miss as the Everton midfielder equalised in the 54th minute, drilling a fine finish past Iversen from 10 yards after Calvert-Lewin flicked on McNeil's cross.

In a tense finale, Vardy's header was nodded off the line by James Tarkowski, while Iversen saved at Calvert-Lewin's feet, then repelled Abdoulaye Doucoure's rocket.

Manchester United's Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial secured a well-earned 2-0 victory over Everton as the hosts climbed above Newcastle United into provisional third spot in the Premier League on Saturday.

Erik ten Hag's United are in the thick of the race to finish in the top four, with 56 points from 29 games, three ahead of Newcastle, who have a game in hand, and six more than Tottenham Hotspur, with those sides playing later on Saturday.

The defeat for Sean Dyche's Everton, who are battling to avoid relegation, leaves them in 16th spot, outside the drop zone only on goal difference and level on 27 points with Nottingham Forest in 17th place and Bournemouth who are 18th.

United were missing Casemiro, who completed a four-game ban on Saturday, but fellow midfielder Christian Eriksen returned from an ankle injury when he came on after 77 minutes for his first appearance since Jan. 28.

The Toffees have won only once on the road this season in early October against Southampton but have had improved results in recent weeks including a home draw with Spurs on Monday.

14-year-old Jacob, an autistic Everton fan was trying to capture Ronaldo when the Man Utd star was walking down the tunnel after his team's defeat. However, much to his shock, the Portuguese forward smashed the phone out of Jacob's hands leaving him with a broken phone and bruised hand.

The Manchester United star was recently charged for the incident by the Football Association. The Man Utd star had also been cautioned by the police in August earlier this year when questioned about the incident which had taken place in April. Ronaldo had apologised for his behaviour at the time and had also invited the fan to watch a game at Old Trafford.

However, his mother Sarah Kelly is not happy with Ronaldo 'getting away'&nbsp;and has demanded the 'right punishment' for the Manchester United star stating that his behaviour was unacceptable. She claimed her son still hasn't had his phone back.

“Let's hope he finally gets the right punishment. He can't keep getting away with it. His behaviour is unacceptable. I'm being hounded by people saying I'm dragging it up again but I didn't know anything about it. He should have been dealt with six months ago. My son talks about what happened to him every day. He still hasn't had his phone back," Kelly told the Mirror.

“He should have paid for that. He's the one who caused all this. It baffles me – he can assault a child and carry on as normal. How can he sleep at night knowing the distress he has caused to a young fan," she added.

When asked about Ronaldo's offer to meet the young fan and his family, Kelly said nothing has been put in place for a visit to Old Trafford. She said Ronaldo apologised but he said he didn't do anything wrong which felt like an insult to the family.

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo will return for their Premier League clash with Everton after overcoming illness but defender Luke Shaw will be unavailable for up to three weeks, interim manager Ralf Rangnick said on Friday.

Ronaldo, United's top goalscorer this season with 12 league goals, will be back after missing their 1-1 draw with Leicester City last weekend while Shaw is set for a spell out due to follow-up treatment for a broken leg sustained in 2015.

"Cristiano is back again," Rangnick told reporters ahead of Saturday's game.

"Luke is still injured, we had to take him off at halftime (against Leicester), he's had his problems with his leg where he had the operation in 2015.

Rangnick, whose side are seventh with 51 points from 30 games, said their mentality, attitude and physicality would play a crucial role against Everton who are a point and a place above the relegation zone.

"These factors will decide the game," Rangnick said. "We're aware of the importance of the game for both sides."
