Pep Guardiola admits Manchester City cannot afford to drop any more points if they are to catch leaders Arsenal in the Premier League title race. Guardiola's second-placed side will trail Arsenal by five points if the Gunners beat Everton in their game in hand on Wednesday.

City had seized top spot when they won 3-1 at Arsenal recently, but a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest allowed Mikel Arteta's team to regain top spot.

The champions routed Bournemouth 4-1 on Saturday to stay in the hunt, just hours after Arsenal's 1-0 win at Leicester.

But with City having to come from behind in their bid to win a fifth title in six seasons, Guardiola knows they have no margin for error.

"I have the feeling in the Premier League many things are going to happen. Everyone is going to drop points but we cannot drop any if we are going to fight until the end," Guardiola told reporters on Monday.

There could be a rare chance for City midfielder Kalvin Phillips to start on Tuesday after a frustrating campaign for the England international.

"Kalvin is adapting and adjusting a little bit. Some players need a bit more time," Guardiola said.

"I have the feeling he needs a little bit more time to learn more about our rhythm, but it was so important for him to play the minutes he played at Bournemouth for the rhythm."

Can't drop points, says Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola

Liverpool boss Jurgen&nbsp;Klopp&nbsp;said there is no Hollywood ending in sight to his side's struggles after a 0-0 draw at struggling Crystal Palace on Saturday. The Reds travelled to Selhurst Park low on confidence after a 5-2 humiliation at home to Real Madrid in the Champions League in midweek.

Jean-Philippe Mateta wasted Palace's best chance when the Frenchman smashed against the bar from close range after Trent Alexander-Arnold had been robbed by Jeffrey Schlupp.

The closest Liverpool came to scoring before the break was when Alexander-Arnold's goalbound free-kick was deflected to safety by his own teammate Jordan Henderson.

Klopp's men were marginally better in the second period once Harvey Elliott replaced the ineffectual Keita.

Mohamed Salah was inches away from the moment of inspiration Liverpool badly needed as his curling effort came back off the crossbar.

Salah was the creator for Liverpool's other big chance to take all three points, but Cody Gakpo's attempted dink over the onrushing Vicente Guaita sailed wide.

Not the season for history, admits Jurgen Klopp amid Liverpool’s struggles

Under-fire Chelsea manager Graham Potter has received emails threatening him and his family. Potter revealed on Friday he has been targeted by an anonymous account after Chelsea's dismal season hit a new low with a 1-0 home defeat against Southampton last weekend.

Chelsea are languishing in 10th place and have won only two of their last 14 matches. Supporters called for Potter to be sacked throughout the Southampton debacle, with personal attacks towards him on social media also increasing.

But worryingly for Potter, threats are now being sent directly to the former Brighton boss, who succeeded the sacked Thomas Tuchel in September.

"You could ask my family how life has been for me and for them. It's been not pleasant at all. I understand supporters go home and they're annoyed because the team aren't winning," Potter said.

"I've had some not particularly nice emails come through, that want me to die and want my kids to die.&nbsp;

"That's obviously not pleasant to receive. If you've been asked for four months if you're under pressure, because (the media) need to sell stuff - what do you expect, in the end?

"You know there's a problem when the email address it's been sent from is 'Potter bastard at Gmail dot com'."

Despite the abuse, Potter is trying to remain positive ahead of the London derby at Tottenham on Sunday.

"I want to succeed here. There's nonsense (being said) that I don't care. Where does that come from? Where's your evidence on that? Ask my family. People have a perception I don't care - what's that based on? How do you know?" he said.

"If you go to work and somebody's swearing abuse at you, it's not going to be pleasant.&nbsp;

"You can answer it two ways. I could say I don't care, but you know I'm lying. Everyone cares what people think, because we're hardwired to be socially connected."

Not pleasant at all: Chelsea manager Graham Potter on receiving threatening emails

Ministers have announced plans for an independent&nbsp;football&nbsp;regulator to oversee the financial sustainability of the men's game in England, with powers to prevent clubs from joining breakaway leagues. The regulator would license clubs, requiring them to demonstrate sound financial business models, run robust owners' and directors' tests and give fans a greater say in the running of clubs.

It would also have the power to block clubs from joining breakaway leagues, appearing to prevent a repeat of any attempt to form a Super League such as the one that proved so unpopular with supporters in 2021.

"Despite the success of the sport both at home and abroad, we know that there are real challenges which threaten the stability of clubs both big and small," said British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

"These bold new plans will put fans back at the heart of&nbsp;football, protect the rich heritage and traditions of our much-loved clubs and safeguard the beautiful game for future generations."

Football&nbsp;Association CEO Mark Bullingham said the FA welcomed the plans, set out in a government white paper -- a policy document setting out proposals for future legislation -- to be published on Thursday.

"Our response will highlight a critical point made repeatedly by the fan-led review, which recommended that the professional game increases funding of the grassroots game," he said.&nbsp;

The&nbsp;Football&nbsp;Supporters' Association also welcomed the proposals.

"The&nbsp;football&nbsp;governance white paper clearly addresses our key concerns around ownership, rogue competitions and sustainability and of course we support any proposals that offer fans a greater voice in the running of their clubs," said FSA chief executive Kevin Miles.

But the Premier League warned it was vital that regulation did not damage the game.

"We will now work constructively with stakeholders to ensure that the proposed government regulator does not lead to any unintended consequences that could affect the Premier League's position as the most-watched&nbsp;football&nbsp;league in the world, reduce its competitiveness or put the unrivalled levels of funding we provide at risk," it said in a statement.

<h2>Terrible idea</h2>

West Ham owner David Sullivan echoed previous concerns expressed by some owners of Premier League clubs, describing the plans for greater regulation as a "terrible idea".

"The regulator will have a huge staff that&nbsp;football&nbsp;will have to pay for," he told Sky Sports News. "It will be a total waste of money. I bet it grows in size and cost every year.&nbsp;

"The Premier League is the best run and most successful league in the world. It gives more to the lower leagues and the PFA (Professional Footballers' Association) and the grassroots than any other top league in the world. It's a fantastic export."

The proposals are based on the recommendations of a fan-led review that ministers commissioned earlier than originally planned in the immediate aftermath of the Super League scandal.

The body's main purpose would be to oversee a licensing system to ensure clubs are run sustainably, following the collapse of Bury and Macclesfield in recent years.

But it would also be able to step in and force arbitration if the Premier League, the EFL (English&nbsp;Football&nbsp;League) and the&nbsp;Football&nbsp;Association are unable to reach a new settlement on how top-flight finances support the game at lower levels.

The government also plans to introduce a new owners' and directors' test, with a focus on the fitness and propriety of new owners and enhanced due diligence.

It is not clear whether there will be any human rights element to the test, despite calls for one from Amnesty International during the Saudi-led takeover of Newcastle.

The issue is again in the spotlight as a result of a Qatari bid for Manchester United.

The government said it would embark on further consultation, with plans to bring forward legislation to be announced as soon as parliamentary time allows.

Premier League: Independent regulator to oversee club operations

Marcus Rashford showed Manchester United won't be distracted by the race to buy the Old Trafford club as his double inspired a 3-0 win against Leicester on Sunday. United owners the Glazer family are considering rival offers from Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, chairman of one of Qatar's biggest banks, and British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe. Further bids could still be made amid reports United may be under new ownership within six weeks -- but Erik ten Hag's side have kept their focus firmly on the pitch. Rashford has been the key to United's impressive form in Ten Hag's first season and the England forward proved too hot for Leicester to handle at Old Trafford.

Rashford has scored 24 times in all competitions for United this season, the highest goal tally he has ever managed in a single campaign.

Remarkably, 16 of those goals have come in 17 appearances since he returned from the World Cup in December.

The 25-year-old is also the first United player to score in seven consecutive home league games since Wayne Rooney in 2010.

Rashford endured a difficult period prior to Ten Hag's appointment last season, sparking suggestions the forward might look to leave Old Trafford.

But Rashford is now United's most influential player as he rediscovers the form that made him a teen sensation.

<h3>Silverware drought</h3>

United sit third in the table, just five points behind leaders Arsenal, after a third win in their last four league matches.

Ten Hag has played down his side's hopes of catching Arsenal, who have a game in hand on United.

But if United do fall short in the title race, there are other opportunities to make it a memorable season in what could be the final campaign of the unpopular Glazers' 18-year reign.

United are without a major trophy since 2017, when they won the League Cup and the Europa League, while their last Premier League crown came 10 years ago.

The silverware drought could end this term, with United hosting Barcelona in the second leg of their Europa League play-off on Thursday before playing Newcastle in the League Cup final three days later.

United are also through to the FA Cup fifth round, where they face West Ham in March.

<h3>Rampant Rashford</h3>

After drawing 2-2 at Barcelona on Thursday, Ten Hag made five changes to freshen up his team ahead of their pivotal week.

David De Gea made a superb save to deny Harvey Barnes in the early stages after the Leicester winger surged onto Kelechi Iheanacho's pass.

Harry Souttar headed just over from the resulting corner before Iheanacho's deflected effort rolled narrowly wide.

Only De Gea was keeping United afloat and the Spaniard plunged to his right to make a brilliant stop from Iheanacho's stooping header.

Fittingly, De Gea finished with his 180th United clean-sheet, moving him level with Peter Schmeichel's all time record for the club.

After Leicester's barrage, they were hit with a Rashford sucker punch in the 25th minute.

Bruno Fernandes's deft pass with the outside of his boot exposed Leicester's creaky offside trap, and Rashford sprinted clear to fire a clinical finish into the far corner from 12 yards.

Rashford's goal came against the run of play, but it was reward for Ten Hag's decision to deploy his star as United's central striker rather than on the flanks.

United had seized the momentum and they should have been two up when Diogo Dalot somehow shanked Fernandes's cross wide from close-range.

Rashford's speed and movement made him unplayable at times and he doubled United's lead in the 56th minute.

Accelerating onto Fred's pass, Rashford guided a composed finish past Ward, with his celebrations briefly halted by an offside flag that was overturned by VAR.

Leicester were in disarray and Jadon Sancho put the result beyond doubt in the 61st minute when the substitute slotted home from Fernandes's pass.

Also Read: Nick Pope's red card against Liverpool leaves Newcastle in goalkeeping dilemma ahead of EFL Cup final Silverware drought United sit third in the table, just five points behind leaders Arsenal, after a third win in their last four league matches. Rampant Rashford After drawing 2-2 at Barcelona on Thursday, Ten Hag made five changes to freshen up his team ahead of their pivotal week. English Premier League: Race for top continues as Rashford-inspired Manchester United rout Leicester

Pep Guardiola has called on Jack Grealish and Kevin De Bruyne to raise their performances to new heights as Manchester City fight to retain the Premier League title. Grealish and De Bruyne both scored in Wednesday's vital 3-1 win at Arsenal as City moved above the Gunners into first place on goal difference. But, with no margin for error in their bid to hold off Arsenal, Guardiola believes England forward Grealish and Belgium midfielder De Bruyne have even more to give. Grealish has excelled for City since the World Cup break, producing his best run of form after a difficult time since joining from Aston Villa in 2021.

"Obviously he's playing really good. I'm not talking about the decision-making, but more about his ambition and aggression to point to the opponent, to attack the back line," Guardiola told reporters on Friday.

"The quality was always there but his commitment to take risks and make important decisions, makes the difference. But he has to continue."

De Bruyne has found it harder to deliver his usual masterful display this term, with his goal at Arsenal only the fourth time he has scored in the current campaign.

Guardiola is encouraged by De Bruyne's recent efforts however, saying: "Kevin is playing really good, too. It's like Jack, I'm so pleased for everyone, but I want more.

"I had the feeling Kevin can do more, and Jack can do more. They can do better.

"We have tough, aggressive opponents (to play). We need the players who have the feeling we can do better."

Although City have overhauled Arsenal to take pole position in the title race, Guardiola believes Mikel Arteta's men are still favourites.

City have the momentum after trailing Arsenal by eight points last month, but Guardiola pointed to the Gunners' game in hand as a key factor.

"Arsenal still have a game in hand, so nothing has changed much," Guardiola said ahead of Saturday's trip to Nottingham Forest.

"When you are a lot of points in front or a lot of points behind, yes there is a big difference, but we are tight.

"Momentum is when you win 10 games in a row and it didn't happen this season. We lost three games ago in London against Tottenham."

Beating Arsenal was a statement of intent from City as they chase a fifth English title in six seasons.

But Guardiola was just relieved to see City show they are still hungry for silverware after so much success in recent years.

"We wanted to arrive with 15 games left to be close, and we want to arrive at the last eight or 10 games being there close to the top," he said.

"We are in the position I would have dreamed of at the beginning of the season. I could not expect to be a lot of points in front after winning back to back. That's almost impossible."

Following Chelsea's hurried sale in the aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine which forced Roman Ambramovic to sell the club, it has been widely reported&nbsp;that two of the most successful Premier League clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United are also up for a sale.&nbsp;

Ever since reports emerged that both Man United and the Liverpool FC owners are willing to sell the club, Indian industrialist Mukesh Ambani has emerged as a strong contender to buy&nbsp;one of the two clubs. However, it is believed that Ambani is eyeing to buy the 13-time English champion Arsenal and not Man United or Liverpool.&nbsp;

At present, Arsenal's majority stakes are with the American-based Kroenke family (Kroenke Sports &amp; Entertainment company). The&nbsp;report has further revealed&nbsp;that Ambani's son Akash is a big fan of the current Premier League table toppers Arsenal and, hence, the industrialist might try really hard&nbsp;to take over the ownership.

"There is an increasing appetite in India for non-cricket investment opportunities in sport. This links to India's digital and entertainment economy. City Football Group invested in Mumbai, and Mumbai is the digital, entertainment and financial capital of India. If you look at some of the things Abu Dhabi's wealth fund is investing in, they have invested in digital start-ups in Mumbai. There is a sense India could be the next great frontier. We've already had China, and now we have Saudi Arabia," Simon Chadwick, professor of sport and geopolitical economy at the SKEMA Business School, said to Athletic.

Indian industralist Mukesh Ambani eyeing to buy THIS big Premier League club - Reports

Manchester&nbsp;United&nbsp;said on Tuesday it was commencing a process to explore strategic alternatives, including a new investment or a potential sale, 17 years after the American Glazer family bought the English Premier League soccer club. The Glazer family is working with financial advisers on the process, which could lead to a partial sale of the Old Trafford club or investments including stadium and infrastructure redevelopment, the club said in a statement.

Manchester&nbsp;United&nbsp;fans have been clamouring for a change of ownership and the Glazers have been the target of intense criticism as the team have gone five years without winning a trophy. The last silverware they won was the Europa League and League Cup back in 2017. "As we seek to continue building on the club’s history of success, the board has authorized a thorough evaluation of strategic alternatives," Avram Glazer and Joel Glazer, executive co-chairmen and directors of&nbsp;United, said in the statement. "We will evaluate all options to ensure that we best serve our fans and that Manchester&nbsp;United&nbsp;maximizes the significant growth opportunities available to the club today and in the future," the statement said.

In August, British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe had expressed interest in buying&nbsp;United, Reuters reported. At the time, Elon Musk had also joked about planning to buy the club. Wealthy Asian tycoons, especially those from China, have been buying European teams in recent years including Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers and Italy's Inter Milan. However, football clubs have since been deemed unfavorable assets by China and any major overseas purchase would seem unlikely at the moment, said Mark Dreyer, Beijing-based author of "Sporting Superpower", a book about China's sports ambitions.

"It's almost impossible to see how any Chinese-related entity could justify a purchase of this magnitude in the current climate," he said. "... with China only just now facing up to the realities of COVID-19, which makes the entire economic environment that much more uncertain, no state body would approve this kind of deal." The owners are under pressure with&nbsp;United&nbsp;sitting fifth in the Premier League halfway through the season, which has been suspended because of the current Qatar World Cup.

Manchester&nbsp;United&nbsp;shares jumped as much as 20% after Sky News first reported on the sale process, giving the club a market capitalisation of $2.6 billion. The company was worth $2.5 billion at the close of U.S. trading on Tuesday. At its peak as a public company, it had a market capitalisation of $4.3 billion in 2018.

Also on Tuesday, the club said that star striker Cristiano Ronaldo will leave with immediate effect, marking a bitter end to the Portugal captain's second spell at Old Trafford after he said he felt betrayed by the club. The Glazers bought the club for 790 million pounds ($939.07 million) in 2005 in a highly leveraged deal which has been criticised for loading debt onto the club. United&nbsp;has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange since 2012, when the Glazers sold 10% of their holding via the listing and have sold more shares since.

The Raine Group is acting as financial adviser and Latham &amp; Watkins LLP is the legal adviser to Manchester&nbsp;United. Rothschild and Co. is acting as financial adviser to the Glazer family shareholders.&nbsp;Among the fan protests against the Glazers was one in May 2021 that forced the postponement of a home match against Liverpool, one of the club's biggest rivals. It was the first Premier League match to be postponed because of a protest.

United&nbsp;and Liverpool were among a group of big clubs that said they wanted to establish a European Super League in April 2021 but then withdrew, partly because of objections from many fans in England. Liverpool are also "exploring a sale" according to club chairman Tom Werner. In May 2022, Chelsea Football Club was sold to a consortium led by an investment group fronted by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital for $3.2 billion (2.5 billion pounds).

United&nbsp;finished sixth last season in their worst Premier League campaign in terms of points earned, failing to qualify for the lucrative European Champions League competition. They won the last of their record 20 top-flight league titles in 2013, the year the great Alex Ferguson stepped down as manager after more than 26 years in charge. The club have hired Dutch manager Erik ten Hag from Ajax Amsterdam in a bid to turn around their fortunes.

Almost 5% of the payers admitted to having suicidal thoughts at some point of time in their careers

One of the toughest football leagues in the world, the Premier League is home to some of the best footballers from around the globe. However, incidents of racism and social media abuse have marred the league over the years and have impacted several top players. Players have also admitted to having faced mental health issues in their personal and professional lives.

As per the survey conducted by PFA, 79 out of the 843 male players in the EFL and the Premier League admitted to having experienced bullying in their careers. 40 players admitted they has suicidal thoughts and were ready to take their lives at some point.

The survey which was conducted through well-being workshops at the clubs throughout last season found out several players were against getting vaccinated for COVID-19 and felt pressured into getting jabbed. 189 out of the 843 players who were surveyed also opened up about facing severe anxiety and admitted they feared something bad might happen.

The data found in the survey was released by PFA on World Mental Health Day on October 10 and brought forward the dark side of professional football. It showcases how athletes who appear tough from the outside undergo severe stress mentally and face multiple challenges throughout their careers

Dr Michael Bennett, the director of the player wellbeing at the PFA, said the organisation is trying to get more feedback from players and learn what kind of bullying experiences they endured during their careers. Bennett said the players could have been at the receiving end of bullying from their own teammates, club staff or the management in some cases.

"These are stark figures that illustrate how serious these issues are in the game. Based on this feedback, we have adapted the sessions this season to learn more about the type of bullying players face," said Bennett.

"It could be peer-on-peer bullying, for example, from teammates in the dressing room or training ground. It could be by club staff or management. We are particularly concerned around transfer windows.

"We know that players can be isolated from their squads when a club is trying to force a move. We are often dealing with cases like this. Ultimately, whether it is the training ground or the stadium on a match day, it’s a player’s workplace. They have a right to feel protected and safe at work," he explained.

Three Premier League games scheduled for this weekend have been postponed ahead of Queen Elizabeth's funeral next Monday, including Chelsea's home game against Liverpool on Sunday, the Premier League has announced.

Manchester United's home game versus Leeds United on Sunday has also been postponed while Brighton &amp; Hove Albion's match against Crystal Palace on Saturday remains postponed, the league said.

The Brighton game was originally postponed due to planned industrial action on the rail network, which has been called off following the queen's death.

English soccer's ruling body had already postponed all of last weekend's fixtures as a mark of respect.

"Seven of the 10 Premier League fixtures this weekend will be played, with three matches postponed due to events surrounding The Queen's funeral," the Premier League said in a statement.

"Following extensive consultation with clubs, police, local Safety Advisory Groups and other relevant authorities, there was no other option but to postpone the three fixtures.

"For the matches being played during the period of National Mourning, tributes will be paid to The Queen at Premier League stadiums."

FA, EFL matches resume

Earlier, England's Football Association (FA) and the English Football League (EFL) said matches will resume as scheduled from Tuesday after the last round of fixtures were postponed following the queen's death last week.

"After a period of pause and reflection for our national game, we can confirm that fixtures will resume as scheduled," the FA said on Monday.

That includes matches from the Women's Super League and women's Championship, FA Cup second round qualifying, women's FA Cup, the lower tiers of the English football pyramid as well as all matches across grassroots football.

However, FA Trophy and FA Youth Cup matches will return later on Monday. The FA also said that all scheduled matches will be postponed next Monday, the day of the queen's funeral.

The EFL said on Monday that tributes will be paid to the queen at grounds across England.

"A minute's silence will be held before matches, with black armbands to be worn by participants, flags to be flown at half-mast and the National Anthem to be played in stadiums," it said in a statement.

"With a national policing plan now in operation, the League and clubs will continue to work with forces in respect of any challenges that may emerge regarding policing of specific fixtures."

Also Read: 'Devastated that my time at Chelsea has come to an end'- Thomas Tuchel reacts after being sacked The EFL said on Monday that tributes will be paid to the queen at grounds across England. "A minute's silence will be held before matches, with black armbands to be worn by participants, flags to be flown at half-mast and the National Anthem to be played in stadiums," it said in a statement. "With a national policing plan now in operation, the League and clubs will continue to work with forces in respect of any challenges that may emerge regarding policing of specific fixtures." Thursday's Europa League group game between Arsenal and PSV Eindhoven has been postponed due to the lack of adequate security personnel in London.

Thomas Tuchel urged "soft"&nbsp;Chelsea&nbsp;to toughen up after a shock 2-1 defeat against Southampton plunged his spluttering team into Premier League turmoil on Tuesday. Tuchel's side blew the lead at St Mary's after Raheem Sterling put them ahead midway through the first half. England forward Sterling bagged his third goal in two games with a close-range strike in the 23rd minute.

But&nbsp;Chelsea&nbsp;had squandered a host of chances before Sterling's opener and, not for the first time in Tuchel's reign, their profligate finishing came back to haunt them. Romeo Lavia equalized in the 28th minute with his first goal for Southampton, curling home from the edge of the area after&nbsp;Chelsea&nbsp;failed to clear a corner.

Adam Armstrong put Southampton ahead on the stroke of half-time as he took Romain Perraud's pass and drilled a deflected shot past&nbsp;Chelsea&nbsp;keeper Edouard Mendy. Chelsea, beaten 3-0 at Leeds in their previous away fixture, were unable to muster a response as they slipped to a second defeat from their last three games.

"Soft, soft, soft defending. There is no need to give shots away. Just toughen up as a team and show a different mentality," Tuchel said.

With just two wins from their first five matches, the Blues are already five points behind leaders Arsenal, who play their game in hand against Aston Villa on Wednesday. Despite a significant close-season spending spree, which is set to continue with several more signings mooted before Thursday's transfer deadline,&nbsp;Chelsea&nbsp;are struggling to find any sustained momentum at present.

While it is too early to write them out of the title race, Tuchel will be concerned by his team's latest sloppy display -- with key mistakes at both ends of the pitch -- having already criticised them publicly after the Leeds loss.

"It is too easy to put us off balance, to beat us, to confuse us. It is too easy. It happened against Leeds. We need to understand why and find solutions," Tuchel said. "We lose concentration, we lose our plan and lose consistency. I don't understand why we have so many injuries. "In a match where you are in the lead there is no need to give away half-chances. To have no answers in the second half was disappointing."

Everton's wait for a first win this season goes on after Luis Sinisterra's first league goal for Leeds earned a 1-1 draw at Elland Road. Frank Lampard's team went ahead when Alex Iwobi's incisive pass was flicked through the legs of Diego Llorente by Anthony Gordon, whose clinical finish capped a superb move in the 17th minute.

But Colombia winger Sinisterra marked his first start for Jesse Marsch's men in memorable fashion with a composed finish from Brenden Aaronson's pass in the 55th minute. Fulham ended Brighton's unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 win at Craven Cottage that lifted them to sixth place.

Fourth-placed Brighton had won three of their first four games, but Marco Silva's promoted side broke the deadlock in the 48th minute through Aleksandar Mitrovic's fifth goal this season. Neeskens Kebano provided the pass and Serbia striker Mitrovic tapped in at the far post for his 100th league goal for the Cottagers.

Wilfried Zaha showed why Arsenal and&nbsp;Chelsea&nbsp;have been linked with him as the Ivory Coast forward gave Palace the lead with a brilliant strike from the edge of the area after 59 minutes. Thomas Tuchel calls 'soft' Chelsea to toughen up after shock defeat vs Southampton

Manchester United have had a disastrous start to the ongoing Premier League season under new manager Erik Ten Hag, who arrived at the club from Dutch side Ajax earlier this summer. Ten Hag has signed up for arguably the biggest challenge of his managerial career so far, but finds himself in troubled waters just a couple of games into his first season at the club.

The Dutch manager had massive optimism surrounding his arrival after United showed glimpses of brilliant football Ten Hag is known for, during their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia. But the buoyancy was a short-lived one as back-to-back losses against Brighton and Brentford in the first two games of the season pushed United to the bottom of the table.

United were shambolic in defence and far from clinical in attack as the lack of quality in the squad was crystal clear on the pitch during their defeats against Brighton and Brentford. While they were expected to kick off the new season with new vigour after a dismal campaign last season, Ten Hag's men looked completely out of sorts in the two defeats which have served as an eye-opener.

But the problems at United are clear and obvious. They are far beyond Ten Hag's reach as the club's owners — The Glazer family — are to be blamed for bringing down the English football giants. Deservingly, the Glazers find themselves at the receiving end of massive criticism from fans, experts and former players alike after United's terrible start.

In their 17 years of ownership of United, the Glazers have made some awful footballing decisions; they have failed to install a proper hierarchy at the club to run the footballing side of their ‘commercial’ venture, and instead of pumping in money to strengthen the squad over the years, have put the club under mounting debt while also enjoying annual dividends.

The Glazers have been accused of leaving Manchester United&nbsp;'to rot' while they continue to milk money out of the most successful club in the history of English football. So much so, that the fans, former players and experts have had enough and have called out the owners for 'destroying' the club in recent days.

Who are the Glazers? How did they buy Manchester United?

Avram, Joel, Bryan, Kevin, Edward and Darcie - the six Glazer&nbsp;siblings currently own Manchester United, one of the most popular clubs in the world with a staggering fan following across the globe. Their father Malcolm Glazer, an American business tycoon, had entered the sports business for the first time when he bought the Tampa Bay Buccaneers team in America's National Football League (NFL).

After running the Buccaneers, Glazer&nbsp;siblings Joel, Edward and Bryan set their sights on buying Manchester United. It was in 2003, that Malcolm Glazer made his first move and bought 2.9% shares of United for around $4.7 million. He kept increasing his stake and reached the coveted 30% mark which was enough to launch a full takeover bid.

The Glazers increased their stake to 58.7% after United's former manager Sir Alex Ferguson had a fall out with John Magnier and J. P. McManus, who collectively owned 28.7% shares of the club. Glazers sensed an opportunity and made the most of it as they bought the entire 28.7% stake from the duo to increase their stake while retaining Ferguson as the manager.

Their ownership soon rose to 75% before Glazers took full control of the club in 2005 for a sum of around £790 million. However, there was a catch, the Glazers didn't spend their own money to buy Manchester United and instead opted to finance the move through loans. The Glazers only spent £270m on their own financed the rest by placing the club into debt.

It was for the first time since 1931, that United, a debt-free club, was put into debt. It was the beginning of what has panned out to be a disastrous stint for the Glazers as the owners of United with success eluding the club for a number of years and fans growing impatient with every passing season as they witness their beloved football club being brought down to the ground.

One of the most profitable football clubs in the world, United had to pay interest payments of around £62 million every year after the Glazers financed their purchase of the club with a loan and put it on the United brand. Instead of hoping for new investment into the club, United found itself spending millions to pay off the debt.

Why the&nbsp;Glazers have been called 'leeches' by Manchester United fans?

Manchester United was a debt-free club till the Glazers took over in 2005 by taking a loan of around a staggering £525 million and put it on the club to pay it off. The Manchester United fans had sensed what was to come in the future and protests outside Old Trafford, the club's home ground had begun even before the Glazers' takeover was complete.

However, the protests were not as fierce as they have been in the last few years as the fans still hoped the American owners would take the club in the right direction. However, that has clearly not been the case as United, one of the top clubs in the world, has been far from challenging for major titles since the departure of Alex Ferguson.

In 2010, United's debt rose to a staggering £716.5 million which forced the club to issue bonds of around £500 million to pay it off. As per reports, United's current debt sits at around £627 million. The club has paid around £855m alone in interests which could have easily been invested into infrastructure, stadium and in improving the quality of the squad that is currently crying for reinforcements.

If the debt was not enough, from 2016 the Glazers started taking out more money as dividends for the shares they own. They have&nbsp;taken out around £154 million in dividends in the last six years and continue to fill their pockets with millions of pounds annually despite the club needing a complete rebuild from top to bottom.

All this, while not investing properly in the squad and not having a proper structure at the club to run the footballing side of it, has left the fans exhausted but louder than ever. The Glazers have been termed&nbsp;'leeches' with&nbsp;calls for the American&nbsp;owners&nbsp;to sell the club growing&nbsp;louder in the last few years than ever before due to their sheer inability to properly run one of the biggest football clubs in the world.

Have Glazers not spent money on transfers?

The Glazers had their faces saved by the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson in their initial years after buying United as the former manager delivered success on the pitch to paper over the cracks. However, United have not managed to win a single Premier League title ever since his departure in 2013 when the club won their last league title.

From 2005 to 2013, Manchester United had a net spend of just £164m which averages just over £20 million per season over eight years. At the same time, the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and other top European clubs were spending big money in the transfer market to get the players they wanted to achieve success.

With Ferguson in charge, United's transfer howlers were majorly covered over as the legendary manager still was able to help the club win titles one after another. However, the Glazers were left exposed once Ferguson left the club as United's inability to track the best talents and bring them to Old Trafford ended up costing them on the pitch.

United have spent over £1 billion in transfers since Ferguson's departure but they have little to show for the money spent as a number of signings over the years have flopped and flopped massively at the club. The likes of&nbsp;Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay, Marouane Fellaini, Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku among others have all flopped at Old Trafford, exposing United's below-par recruitment and transfer strategy.

While many might argue the Glazers still have paid money, the over&nbsp; £1 billion spent on transfers since 2013 is the money generated by the club. The Glazers have not put in any investment into the club but have rather taken money out in dividends while the debt remains over&nbsp;£600 million even 17 years after the takeover.

As per Sky Sports, the Glazers' takeover of United has ended up costing the club an unbelievable&nbsp;£1.5-2 million pounds, the majority of which could have been utilised in the proper functioning of the club and ensuring it remains as successful as it was under Ferguson, who won a stunning 13 Premier League and 2 Champions League titles during his glorious stint and is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers of all time.

Elon Musk's bluff

Amid their continuous efforts to force The Glazers to sell their beloved club for its own good, Manchester United fans saw a ray of hope when Tesla COO Elon Musk put out a tweet on Wednesday (August 17) saying he was buying the English club. Twitter was soon flooded with reactions as United fans saw light at the end of the tunnel.

However, their joy was short-lived as it was yet another bluff from Musk, who is known for his pointless tweets. The world's richest person was quick to clarify in another tweet&nbsp;that it was just a joke and that he is not planning on buying a sports team. However, Musk insisted if he were&nbsp;to buy a sports team it will be United, as the club was his favourite in childhood.

"No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I’m not buying any sports teams," Musk said in his tweet replying to a user, who asked him if he was serious about buying the English club.&nbsp;

"Although, if it were any team, it would be Man U. They were my fav team as a kid," he said in another.

There is no question&nbsp;that Musk has all the resources that he would need to buy Manchester United, but the club's problems run deeper and it is in dire need of an owner, who would be willing to be invested in sorting out the underlying issues at Old Trafford. And as of now, Musk isn't United's saviour as he is not interested in buying the Premier League giants.

Musk, who had recently pulled out of a deal to buy social media giant&nbsp;Twitter after being denied information he sought, would be in for an even bigger challenge at United if he opts to buy the sleeping giants of English football, who might be up for sale sooner rather than later as the Glazers, who value the club at&nbsp;£4 billion might give in one day amid&nbsp;the mounting pressure from all corners.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville had perfectly put in on Sky Sports last week when he called out the Glazers urging them to sell the club while slamming them for their awful ownership.

“There is a family in America that is letting its employees take the blame. They need to get on a plane to Manchester and explain what the plan is. We never will have the Glazers here," said Neville, who played a staggering 602 matches for United.

“The only money that has been spent on players has been generated by the club. The Glazers have borrowed and used the revenue the club generates through its amazing fanbase.”

“My point is there has been a toxic culture at this club for the last 10 years since Alex Ferguson and (CEO) David Gill left. It’s a mess. And it cannot continue to go on. The embedded failure over a ten-year period has to come back to the owner. I blamed (CEO Ed) Woodward for a long time but the Glazers left him in situ," he added.

So much so, that the fans, former players and experts have had enough and have called out the owners for 'destroying' the club in recent days. Who are the Glazers? How did they buy Manchester United? Avram, Joel, Bryan, Kevin, Edward and Darcie - the six Glazer siblings currently own Manchester United, one of the most popular clubs in the world with a staggering fan following across the globe. Their father Malcolm Glazer, an American business tycoon, had entered the sports business for the first time when he bought the Tampa Bay Buccaneers team in America's National Football League (NFL). After running the Buccaneers, Glazer siblings Joel, Edward and Bryan set their sights on buying Manchester United. Also Read: 'Not buying any sports team' - Elon Musk clarifies after claiming he is going to buy Manchester United Why the Glazers have been called 'leeches' by Manchester United fans? They have taken out around £154 million in dividends in the last six years and continue to fill their pockets with millions of pounds annually despite the club needing a complete rebuild from top to bottom. All this, while not investing properly in the squad and not having a proper structure at the club to run the footballing side of it, has left the fans exhausted but louder than ever. The Glazers have been termed 'leeches' with calls for the American owners to sell the club growing louder in the last few years than ever before due to their sheer inability to properly run one of the biggest football clubs in the world. Also Read: Five strikers Manchester United can sign this window if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Have Glazers not spent money on transfers? The likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay, Marouane Fellaini, Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku among others have all flopped at Old Trafford, exposing United's below-par recruitment and transfer strategy. While many might argue the Glazers still have paid money, the over £1 billion spent on transfers since 2013 is the money generated by the club. The Glazers have not put in any investment into the club but have rather taken money out in dividends while the debt remains over £600 million even 17 years after the takeover. As per Sky Sports, the Glazers' takeover of United has ended up costing the club an unbelievable £1.5-2 million pounds, the majority of which could have been utilised in the proper functioning of the club and ensuring it remains as successful as it was under Ferguson, who won a stunning 13 Premier League and 2 Champions League titles during his glorious stint and is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers of all time. Twitter was soon flooded with reactions as United fans saw light at the end of the tunnel. However, their joy was short-lived as it was yet another bluff from Musk, who is known for his pointless tweets. The world's richest person was quick to clarify in another tweet that it was just a joke and that he is not planning on buying a sports team. However, Musk insisted if he were to buy a sports team it will be United, as the club was his favourite in childhood. "No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I’m not buying any sports teams," Musk said in his tweet replying to a user, who asked him if he was serious about buying the English club. "Although, if it were any team, it would be Man U. They were my fav team as a kid," he said in another. No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I’m not buying any sports teams. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) August 17, 2022 × Although, if it were any team, it would be Man U. They were my fav team as a kid. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) August 17, 2022 × There is no question that Musk has all the resources that he would need to buy Manchester United, but the club's problems run deeper and it is in dire need of an owner, who would be willing to be invested in sorting out the underlying issues at Old Trafford. And as of now, Musk isn't United's saviour as he is not interested in buying the Premier League giants. Musk, who had recently pulled out of a deal to buy social media giant Twitter after being denied information he sought, would be in for an even bigger challenge at United if he opts to buy the sleeping giants of English football, who might be up for sale sooner rather than later as the Glazers, who value the club at £4 billion might give in one day amid the mounting pressure from all corners. The Glazers have borrowed and used the revenue the club generates through its amazing fanbase.” “My point is there has been a toxic culture at this club for the last 10 years since Alex Ferguson and (CEO) David Gill left. It’s a mess. And it cannot continue to go on. The embedded failure over a ten-year period has to come back to the owner. I blamed (CEO Ed) Woodward for a long time but the Glazers left him in situ," he added.

Elon Musk not the saviour, but Manchester United plagued by clear and obvious issues

Two years after the Premier League clubs had decided to express solidarity with the rest of the world in 'taking the knee' as a gesture of standing up against racism of all forms, they have decided not to continue with it in each match next season. The Premier League clubs have decided the anti-racism pre-match gesture will now be limited to only a handful of significant games next season.

Premier League players had started taking the knee in 2020 after the season had resumed post the delay caused by COVID-19. The initiative had begun in the wake of the death of George Floyd, a black man, who died in police custody in Minneapolis, US earlier that year. Floyd's death had sparked massive anti-racism protests across the US and around the globe.

However, the Premier League clubs and players have now decided to not take the knee before every game next season and limit the gesture to only a few matches, which are of more significance.&nbsp;

Premier League clubs to not take the knee before every match, gesture limited to only significant games

Cristiano Ronaldo arrived in Manchester and joined the Manchester United camp on Tuesday (July 26). The superstar footballer touched down in Manchester along with his superagent&nbsp;Jorge Mendes to hold talks with new manager Erik ten Hag regarding his future with the Red Devils, ahead of the commencement of the new EPL season.

As per various reports, Ronaldo is eager to cut short his stay at the premier club -- with one year still remaining in his contract -- after the Red Devils failed to make a mark in the last EPL season, ending sixth and missing out on Champions League football for the 2022/23 season. Thus, Ronaldo is eager to be associated with a club where he can compete in the Champions League and, hence, the 37-year-old isn't happy with how things have panned out for him in his ongoing second innings at the club. Thus, reports suggest that the Portuguese captain has&nbsp;handed in a transfer request. His absence from Man United's pre-season tour of Bangkok and Australia for personal reasons&nbsp;further raised speculations of his exit.

Was Alex Ferguson part of Ronaldo's meeting with Ten Hag over his Man UTD future? Here's the truth

Manchester United have signed Christian Eriksen on a free transfer with the Danish playmaker signing a three-year deal, the Premier League club announced on Friday. Eriksen, who needed life-saving treatment on the pitch last year when he suffered a near-fatal cardiac arrest in a European Championship match against Finland in June, returned to action with Brentford after signing a short-term deal in January.

Eriksen is United's second recruit in the close season under new Dutch manager Erik ten Hag after the club signed Dutch left back Tyrell Malacia.

"Manchester United is a special club and I cannot wait to get started. I have had the privilege of playing at Old Trafford many times but to do it in the red shirt of United will be an amazing feeling," Eriksen said in a statement.

"I have seen Erik's work at Ajax and know the level of detail and preparation that he and his staff put into every day. It is clear that he is a fantastic coach.

"Having spoken with him and learned more about his vision and the way he wants the team to play, I am even more excited for the future."

Eriksen was an Inter Milan player when he collapsed and underwent surgery to be fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) device -- which is not permitted in the Italian Serie A -- leading to the termination of his contract.

After signing for Brentford, he made 11 league appearances under Danish coach Thomas Frank, scoring a goal and providing four assists as Brentford finished 13th in their first season in the Premier League.

He is no stranger to the Premier League, however, having spent nearly seven seasons with Tottenham Hotspur, making more than 300 appearances in all competitions for the London side.

He also resumed his Denmark career, scoring against Serbia on his return to the Parken Stadium where he had collapsed.

"I still have major ambitions in the game, there is a huge amount that I know I can achieve, and this is the perfect place to continue my journey," Eriksen added.

Christian Eriksen joins Erik Ten Hag's Manchester United on a free transfer ahead of new EPL season

Liverpool was thrashed 4-0 by Manchester United in an exhibition match held at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok on Tuesday (July 12). Despite the defeat, the Jurgen Klopp-led club still remains one of the strongest contenders for winning the forthcoming EPL season.

Liverpool is currently in&nbsp;Singapore where they next&nbsp;play Crystal Palace, in an exhibition match, at the National Stadium on Thursday (July 14). Ahead of the EPL season 2022/23, The Reds' former captain and a legend of the club Sami Hyypia opined on Mohamed Salah's extension, thrashing at the hands of new-look Manchester United in Bangkok, team's strengths and rivalry with Man City.

Sami, a former club captain who was part of Liverpool's victorious&nbsp;Champions League campaign in 2004-05, interacted with WION's Sports Editor Digvijay Singh Deo and shared insights on many aspects. Firstly, he played down Liverpool's 4-0 loss vs Man United and said, "Yeah, everyone knows how big the rivalry is. I won't be too worried about the result. Everyone knows the circumstances under which we played. At United, there is a new manager. He wants to be successful straightaway so these friendlies are more important for him. I won't be too worried about this loss. I am sure Liverpool will be ready once the Premier League starts."

Regarding Mohamed Salah, Hyypia lavished huge praise on the 30-year-old Egyptian footballer and said, "He is a great player. One of the best players. He has shown that for many years. I'm glad he is staying here at Liverpool. When he performs like that, it is good for him as well as Liverpool. When Salah came on (in Bangkok), it looked like he had trained for a long long time. His fitness isn't a concern. He came from a holiday. Maybe that was more of a mental holiday. But, he seemed to be in good shape."

32 clean sheets in 63 games last season. Thus, without a doubt, a&nbsp;lot of Liverpool's success boils down to their defence and goalkeeper. In this regard, Hyypia said, "It is a great record. That department is well-equipped at the moment. We had a bit of a problem last year, with the central defence's injury, but now that department is sorted. Allison (Becker) is a world-class goalkeeper and he saved us many times last season. He made game-winning saves. In every department, maybe we are better than last season. I know Sadio Mane left for Bayern Munich but when a player wants to leave you can't force him to stay. If they aren't happy, so move on. Overall, even in that department, we are well-equipped."

It seems to be a two-horse race -- between Liverpool vs Man City -- for the top-two berth in the upcoming EPL season as well. Commenting on this, the 48-year-old veteran told, "I don't know if it is the biggest rivalry. There is a rivalry then it is all about good recruitment. It means a great atmosphere has been created. Each player knows his role. That has been great to see. The scouting department has also been great for Liverpool. They have been spot-on. They are doing an important job. It looks great. I don't think next season there will be anyone to challenge those two (Man City and Liverpool). Chelsea, and Arsenal would want to be in a position where Man City are, however, I don't think they will challenge them both."

Liverpool will look to go the distance and end with the EPL championship after ending second in the last edition. They begin their campaign versus Fulham on August 6.

Exclusive: Liverpool great Sami Hyypia predicts a two-horse Premier League title race again

Manchester United have already kicked off their preparations for the new season under new manager Erik Ten Hag as the Premier League giants aim to bounce back after a disastrous campaign last season. United failed to finish in the top four in the Premier League and were also knocked out from the Champions League from the Last 16 in what was yet another trophyless year for the club.

United have failed to win a trophy in the last five years with their last triumph coming under Jose Mourinho in the Europa League in 2017. Despite United signing the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane to strengthen their squad, they failed to impress in the Premier League leading to the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager.

The club's&nbsp;woes both on and off the pitch were left exposed under the tenure of the interim manager Ralf Rangnick with reports emerging of unrest in the dressing room. Ronaldo, who returned to the club last summer, and was one of their best players, was reportedly involved in a rift with skipper&nbsp;Harry Maguire over his position as captain of the team.

Reports claimed that Ronaldo was not happy with Maguire's leadership last season and the duo were at odds over the issue. With the arrival of Ten Hag as the new manager, many believed Maguire's position as captain was not certain. However, in his first presser ahead of United's pre-season clash against Liverpool, Ten Hag confirmed Maguire will continue to lead the club next season.

Ten Hag said Maguire was an established captain and he doesn't doubt the issue when asked who will be leading the club next season. Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has backed the manager on his decision and said Maguire is a leader, who is an important player for United.

"I think Harry Maguire is very important to us. Harry didn't particularly have his best season (last season) for us but two years before that he was excellent. I think he is a leader and the type of person that we need in the dressing room at the club," the former Manchester United captain told WION in an exclusive interaction in&nbsp;Bangkok ahead of the club's pre-season clash against arch-rivals Liverpool.

United's pre-season is currently underway in Thailand without Ronaldo, who has reportedly informed the club he wants to leave this summer for a fresh challenge. The club's woes both on and off the pitch were left exposed under the tenure of the interim manager Ralf Rangnick with reports emerging of unrest in the dressing room. Ronaldo, who returned to the club last summer, and was one of their best players, was reportedly involved in a rift with skipper Harry Maguire over his position as captain of the team. Exclusive! He is a leader: Bryan Robson backs Ten Hag's decision to retain Harry Maguire as Man Utd captain

A lot is being said and written about Cristiano Ronaldo's move from Manchester United in this Premier League. Thus, with Ronaldo almost certain to shift base from the Red Devils, many are also pinning their hopes on Lionel Messi to exit Paris Saint-Germain and possibly make an entry into the Premier League.&nbsp;

While a lot of Messi's ardent fans are eager to see him in the Premier League, former Manchester City defender&nbsp;Danny Mills doesn't think that such a move is practical in the current scenario. In this regard, he said on talkSport, "Would you take Lionel Messi? He's the greatest footballer I've ever seen, I didn't see [Johan] Cruyff live or [Diego] Maradona. Messi is the best footballer that I've ever seen. I know Ronaldo's numbers are a little better and he's more of a big-game player."

"In terms of being a footballer, Messi is the greatest, but would you take Messi in your team now? Probably not. "I don't think they [the Premier League's top six] would take him. Liverpool? No. Man City? No. Tottenham? No. I don't think they would," he added.

Last year when Messi had become a free agent, many reports had suggested that he had shown interest to join the Man City club, however, he eventuallyb went to PSG. In his maiden season for the French club, the 35-year-old only managed to score 11 goals in what was an under-par run for the Argentinan captain. Recent reports have claimed that PSG is keen on revamping their squad around superstar Kylian Mbappe and the club can release Neymar and Messi. However, there is no official confirmation regarding this.

Thus, Messi would hope to turn the tides and return to his usual best in his second season for PSG, if he remains a part of the club.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has taken a dig at arch-rivals Liverpool after the club extended Mohammed Salah's contract, offering him a new three-year contract with a staggering pay rise. Salah will become the highest-paid player in Liverpool's history after penning a new three-year deal with a salary of reportedly more than £350,000 per week.

The 30-year-old has been one of Liverpool's best players since joining the club from Italian Club AS Roma in 2017. He has been scoring goals consistently and is already among the all-time top-scorers for Liverpool. Salah was in talks with Liverpool for several months as his contract was nearing its end.

However, the Egyptian was demanding a huge pay rise which made it difficult for Liverpool to decide on extending his contract. His previous contract was set to expire next year but Salah has now penned a deal which will keep him at Liverpool till 2025 making him the highest-earning player in their squad at present.

Reacting to Salah's contract extension at Liverpool, Manchester United legend Neville suggested the star forward had 'played' the club and hinted that Salah, who had initially refused to sign a contract extension, did so to get a lucrative contract from the club.

Salah was reportedly holidaying in Mykonos amid the ongoing break and the Liverpool executives flew to the island in Greece to negotiate the contract extension with the star forward. Liverpool eventually had to bow down to Salah's demands despite their strict wage structure and fears that his new contract might propel other top players in the team to demand similar wages.

However, Liverpool had little choice when it came to extending Salah's contract considering they have already let go of Sadio Mane, who was one of the club's best forwards along with the Egyptian. Mane joined Bayern Munich this summer after Liverpool failed to agree a contract extension with him due to his high wage demands.

Manchester United are looking to strengthen their squad and bounce back next season under new manager Erik Ten Hag after enduring a disappointing campaign in the Premier League last season. It was an abysmal campaign for United as they finished sixth and failed to win a single trophy. They are out of the Champions League next season and Ten Hag has a huge job at his hands in fixing the issues at the club.

Ten Hag, who was roped in from Ajax, comes with a brilliant record in the Dutch league Eredivisie
with his former side but will face his biggest test yet in the Premier League. Ten Hag has already eyed some key signings to kick-start his rebuild project at United with former Ajax and current Barcelona star Frenkie De Jong on top of his list.

Ten Hag is focused on strengthening United's midfield which is an area of concern before moving on to other positions. While the incomings will provide him a significant boost ahead of the season, Ten Hag will also have to sort out the United dressing room which was reportedly split last season amid the club's disappointing run.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who returned to United from Juventus last year and was one of the best players of the Red Devils last season, was reportedly at odds with skipper Harry Maguire over the captaincy. United players were reportedly split after a disagreement over the captaincy and Ronaldo was at the core of it, as per a report in the BBC.

There were reports last season of a power struggle between Ronaldo and Maguire in the United dressing room during interim manager Ralf Rangnick's tenure. However, England centre-back Maguire had rubbished the reports stating that all was well between the duo.

The report further claims that Rangnick was barely on speaking terms with Manchester United's&nbsp;football director John Murtough, who was the person responsible for hiring him. Rangnick's comments exposing United's lack of ambition on and off the pitch didn't go down well with Murtough, who believes such remarks could have been avoided to safeguard the club's reputation.

Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Manchester United due to lack of signings ahead of new season: Report

Listing world's most lucrative sports leagues after IPL media rights auction

The Indian Premier League (IPL) in a span of just 15 years has managed to become one of the biggest sporting leagues in the world. The inaugural edition of the IPL was played in 2008 and there has been no looking back ever since as the T20 league continues to witness a&nbsp;massive growth in its popularity across the globe. IPL is arguably the biggest T20 league in the world and has the best players from across the globe playing their trade in the competition.

IPL is organised annually by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) which is the richest cricket board in the world. While there is no doubting IPL's popularity and its staggering growth over the years, the T20 league has still some distance to cover to become the most popular sporting league in the world.

However, BCCI president and former captain of the Indian cricket team, Sourav Ganguly recently made a bold claim stating that the IPL earns more revenue than the English Premier League (EPL). The English Premier League is the top-tier tournament in English football and is one of the most-watched sporting leagues globally.

EPL's popularity is not just limited to the UK and the competition is followed by passionate fans from all corners of the world. It is also deemed one of the most difficult football leagues in the world for players and involves huge finances in terms of transfers, tickets and other expenditures.

But speaking at the India Leadership Council event, Ganguly said IPL earns more revenue than EPL and it gives him immense happiness to have witnessed cricket grow from strength to strength over the years.

"I've seen the game evolve, where players like me earned a few hundreds and now have the potential of earning crores. This game is run by the fans, by the people of this country, and by the BCCI, which was formed by cricket fans. This sport is strong and will continue to evolve. The IPL generates more revenue than the English Premier League. It makes me feel happy and proud that the sport I love has evolved to become so strong," Ganguly said.

The BCCI president's comments have come at a time when IPL media rights for the 2023 to 2027 cycle are up for grabs at the e-auction which is currently underway. A number of big names including the likes of Disney Star, Sony, Zee, SuperSport and Reliance/Viacom18 are in the fray to bag the TV and digital rights of the tournament for the next five-year cycle.

As per reports, the BCCI is expected to receive a huge cash influx through the e-auction of the media rights. The bidding war can go up to 7 billion USD and the winner will be awarded the broadcasting rights of the tournament from 2023 to 2028.
