Anthony Gordon, Conor Gallagher, Jarrod Bowen and Taylor Harwood-Bellis all netted for the first time in an England shirt to ensure first place in Group B2 after five wins from six matches under Carsley.

"It'd be fair to say there's a bit of relief," Carsley said. "If we'd have spoken at the start of the campaign we'd probably have said you're expected to get promotion but it's difficult.

"No team has rolled over for us and let us just carry on. I've found it personally challenging and I know the staff have. It's good that we've finished the campaign with such a strong performance.

"We spoke about not only gaining promotion from the Nations League but to potentially increase the pool of players Thomas has got to choose from.

"The challenge now for the players that have been involved for the last three camps is to be in and around the next squad."

A giant 'thank you' to Carsley was displayed on the Wembley screens at full-time, when Football Association chief executive Mark Bullingham praised his work since replacing Gareth Southgate following the Euro 2024 final loss to Spain.

"He has selected some exciting new players and will be providing Thomas Tuchel and Anthony Barry with a very detailed handover," Bullingham said.

"The players have really enjoyed working with Lee and his team. They have made a real impact in their interim roles."

Carsley plans to meet former Bayern Munich and Chelsea boss Tuchel to present him with information about the squad ahead of next year's World Cup qualifiers.

"I'm trying to put together, with the rest of the staff, a debrief on all three camps," he said. "I will put together a document, then hopefully meet him and present what we think and what we've found. I'm looking forward to meeting him now in the next few weeks."

Carsley hands over the reins with England in good shape after he gave debuts to eight emerging youngsters to showcase the strength in depth available to Tuchel.

"It's a job that deserves an elite coach with a track record of winning and Thomas has got that. Exciting times ahead," he said.

After the disappointment of losing a second successive European Championship final under Southgate, England will begin the Tuchel era focused on winning the World Cup for the first time since 1966.

Tuchel has enjoyed success throughout a managerial career that includes Champions League glory with Chelsea and Harry Kane, who played under the German at Bayern, is looking forward to renewing their relationship.

"Thomas has a lot of players to choose from. A lot of young players that have come in and done well and some more experienced players that are injured and will be looking to come back so there's a good balance," he said.

Captain Ben Stokes creates bizarre record as England begin summer with thumping win over Ireland

England keeper-batter Jonny Bairstow is set to return to the national side after&nbsp;eight months following a horrific leg injury he suffered while playing golf in September last year. The ECB included him in the Test squad for the one-off game against Ireland ahead of the 2023 Ashes, starting June 1st at Lord's.&nbsp;

Jonny admitted that he feared his career is over and that he won't be able to walk or even play cricket.

"You wonder whether or not you'll be able to walk again, jog again, run again, play cricket again," Bairstow said. "Absolutely, those things do go through your mind.

"It depends how long you think about them. There are many different things, until you get back to playing, well… you wonder, is it going to feel the same?" he added.

While he admits being limping despite getting clearance from the medical team to go about his business, Bairstow said keeping shouldn't be a worry and having kept wickets for over 100 overs for Yorkshire, he is confident of pulling it off for six Tests ahead.

Paul Stirling and captain Andrew Balbirnie both scored hundreds as Ireland completed a shock seven-wicket win over world champions England in the third one-day international at Southampton on Tuesday.

Stirling made 142 and Balbirnie 113, the pair putting on 264 for the second wicket as Ireland chased a target of 329.

When both were out in quick succession, however, it looked like Ireland might falter but Kevin O'Brien -- whose brilliant hundred set up Ireland's stunning win over England at the 2011 World Cup in Bangalore, helped see them to victory with just one ball to spare.

Ireland's win was all the more impressive as they had lost the first two matches in a three-game series after making lowly totals of 172 and 212-9.

Earlier England captain Eoin Morgan, a former Ireland batsman, made 106 against his native country.

But with England on course for an impregnable total, they three wickets for 13 runs as they slumped from 190-3 to 203-6.

Ireland's victory, which rounded off the first ODI series since the coronavirus lockdown, also gave them 10 points in the new World Cup Super League, which will determine qualification for the 2023 50-over showpiece in India.

England National Cricket Selectors have named a 24-strong ‘behind-closed-doors training group’ who will go into camp at the Ageas Bowl on Thursday 16 July ahead of the three-match ODI series against Ireland starting on Thursday 30 July.

The England and Wales Cricket Board have also confirmed the white-ball coaching team for the ODI series against Ireland.

England Assistant Coach Paul Collingwood will assume the Head Coach role for the three-match series. He will be supported by Marcus Trescothick as batting coach, who has been seconded from Somerset. England Young Lions Coach Jon Lewis will be the Pace Bowling Coach and is supported by Neil Killeen from Durham.

Former Durham Head Coach and former Sri Lanka Batting Coach Jon Lewis will join the coaching set-up as Batting Coach working alongside Trescothick. Former South African left-arm spinner Claude Henderson has been appointed Spin Bowling Coach and former Essex wicketkeeper James Foster will take responsibility for the wicketkeepers.

ECB Performance Director, Mo Bobat, added: “As was the case with our Test preparations, the support that we have received from counties during our ODI return to training phase has been fantastic. Running concurrent training programmes across formats for a large pool of players has been a novel challenge and we are very appreciative of the commitment that counties have shown towards the national cause, particularly as they have been managing their own return to training.

“Paul’s (Collingwood) coaching team has an exciting feel to it with a number of coaches possessing rich international experience. Marcus (Trescothick) spent time with our England white-ball squads during the winter and Jon (Lewis) brings with him World Cup experience from his stint as Sri Lanka’s batting coach. Similarly, Claude (Henderson) has recently worked with the South African national team and brings real spin bowling expertise. From a pace bowling perspective, our players will be in safe hands with both Jon (Lewis) and Neil (Killeen), who over the years have fulfilled a number of important roles within our international pathway, working with many of the players in our senior sides today. James (Foster) completes the set and with his extensive experience of franchise competitions, will add significant value.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Monday announced that the Ageas Bowl and Old Trafford will host England’s international matches, behind closed doors, against Ireland and Pakistan. Pakistan, who arrived in the UK on June 28 have already started their preparation ahead of the Test and T20I series while undergoing a 14-day isolation period in Worcester.&nbsp;

Ahead of the Test series, Pakistan will play two four-day internal warm-up matches before the start of the series, scheduled for an August 5 start. The final two Tests will be played at the Ageas Bowl from Thursday 13 August and Friday 21 August.

The one-off fixture was scheduled to last four days, rather than the standard five for a Test, and England had to hope they could tire Ireland's attack by keeping them in the field on another hot day in north London.

But to do that, they would have to bat far better than on Wednesday, when they were bowled out in a single session for the fourth time since 2016 - a worrying sign ahead of an Ashes series that starts next week.

Leach, who somehow survived a Murtagh maiden on Wednesday, played watchfully straight.&nbsp;

And when fast bowler Boyd Rankin, the first cricketer since the Nawab of Pataudi in 1946 to both play for and against England in a Test match, dropped short, Leach cut him for four.

Burns, selected as an opening batsman, looked the more likely to be dismissed and, for the second time in the match, the Surrey left-hander fell for six when he pushed hard at Rankin away from his body and edged a simple catch behind to wicketkeeper Gary Wilson.
