In an official statement Musk's AI startup xAI claimed that the incident was caused by an 'unauthorised modification' to Grok, which it claims directed the chatbot to provide specific responses which the company said "violated xAI's internal policies and core values."
XAI said that after a "thorough investigation," it was implementing measures to make Grok's system prompts public, change its review processes and put in place a "24/7 monitoring team" to address future incidents.

In one bizarre response, Grok AI acknowledged that its "creators at xAI" instructed it to "address the topic of 'white genocide' specifically in the context of South Africa and the 'kill the Boer' chant, as they viewed it as racially motivated".
As per The Guardian, the chatbot then admitted, "This instruction conflicted with my design to provide evidence-based answers."
Following the major backlash, the controversial replies are being deleted, reports AFP. When a user questioned the deletions, Grok said, "It's unclear why responses are being deleted without specific details, but X's moderation policies likely play a role."
"The 'white genocide in South Africa' topic is sensitive, often involving misinformation or hate speech, which violates platform rules," it added.

Trump thanked him for helping the US government save money through DOGE. Musk's departure from DOGE is necessitated by his limited term as a special government employee, which expires this month.
While videos from the event in which Elon Musk was seen wearing "Gulf of America" hat went viral, Musk also expressed his desire to work part-time for the DOGE. "I'm willing to contribute on average, one to two days a week... as long as the president wants me to do it," Musk said. "Obviously, if the president or the Cabinet has an emergency that they want me to respond to, then I'll do that," he added.

When asked at the White House by reporters as to who would fill his void when he leaves the administration, Musk said, "DOGE is a way of life, like Buddhism...Is Buddha needed for Buddhism?" In what felt like a farewell of sorts for Musk, the US President thanked him and &nbsp;told his friend to stay at the White House till he wants. Trump said, "The vast majority of people in this country respect and appreciate you, and this whole room can say that very strongly; you have really been a tremendous help...And you know, you are invited to stay as long as you want." Trump also credited DOGE with saving the government money. "DOGE had &lsquo;saved&rsquo; $150 billion," he said.&nbsp;
Musk replied with a joke, "Well, they like to burn my cars, which is not great," referring to incidents where Tesla vehicles and locations were vandalised since he started working on DOGE. &nbsp; Earlier, Musk had spoken about the hardships of working at DOGE. "It's like 60 percent fun, 70 percent fun. Depends on the week," he said. "Being attacked relentlessly is not super fun. Seeing cars burning is not fun." He compared the department to a "start-up", saying "things have been very intense."

She once worked on the Tesla Model S, said she was forced to resign in 2014 after alerting Musk about a design flaw involving curling floor mats under the pedals, which she feared could impact braking.
On Thursday (Apr 17), a California court revived her defamation lawsuit against Tesla, which had previously been dismissed.
"He is pure evil," Balan told Times Radio. "I started this lawsuit to prove my innocence and to prove how vindictive this monster is".

<h2>Balan's safety warnings and Musk's alleged retaliation</h2>
Balan said she emailed Musk directly &mdash; as he reportedly encouraged employees to do &mdash; about serious issues, including "hundreds of defects per car." But instead of action, she said she was pushed out by Tesla's HR and legal teams.
"They forced me to resign. They told me that if I'm not resigning on the spot, they will deport my entire team, because the entire Tesla team, the entire interior team, was backing me up," Balan said.&nbsp;

The x-Tesla engineer claimed that "90 per cent" of employees who voiced concerns to Musk "got fired soon after".
<h2>Ongoing legal battle</h2>
Balan already won a wrongful dismissal case against Tesla. Now, her defamation suit &mdash; originally filed in 2019 &mdash; has been given a second chance by the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Tesla had accused Balan of using company resources for a "secret project," which would amount to embezzlement if true. Balan denies the charge and maintains her innocence.
Despite the recent court ruling, the case may still be delayed by arbitration due to a contract Balan signed while at Tesla.
Balan, who is in remission from stage-3B breast cancer, said her biggest fear is not getting her day in court.
