The Bear star Ayo Edebiri is not happy with Elon Musk. The actress called out the Tesla CEO on Tuesday in an Instagram story for spreading fake news about her which, she claims, caused her to recieve death threats.&nbsp;
Edebiri, 29, shared a screenshot of an X post by Musk, who in February 2024 shared a post claiming the actress was being considered to replace Johnny Depp in the new installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. There have been no credible reports of this, but Musk shared the fake casting news on X, writing in reply to the quoted post, "Disney sucks."
<h2>'He's an idiot'&nbsp;</h2>
On her Instagram story the actress recalled the backlash she subsequently received.
"Just remembering when I got some of the most insane death threats and racial slurs of my life (idk if it's the #1 moment, but for sure top 3) for a fake reboot of a movie I had never even heard of because of this man," she wrote, adding that not only is Musk a "fascist" but "he's an idiot."

Edebiri also shared a screenshot of a recent rant about Musk by Bill Burr. On NPR's Fresh Air, the comedian mocked the billionaire as a "guy with dyed hair plugs and a laminated face" who "makes a bad car and has an obsolete social media platform." He also asked why liberals are "so afraid of this guy who can't fight his way out of a wet paper bag."
"Bill Burr. Every time!" Edebiri wrote on top of a screenshot of Burr's remarks, adding a bullseye emoji.
In another Instagram story, Edebiri shared a private chat with a friend who said she would actually be great in a Pirate film. The actress admitted she liked the idea.&nbsp;

Edebiri is not the first star to voice her displeasure about Musk, who has been working closely with President Donald Trump as a senior adviser.
In November, Saturday Night Live star Chloe Fineman alleged that Musk made her "burst into tears" behind the scenes when he hosted the show in 2021. She said she decided to share the story after Musk began complaining about "SNL" on X.
"I stayed up all night writing a sketch, I was so excited, I came in, I asked if you had any questions, and you stared at me like you were firing me from Tesla and were like, 'It's not funny,'" Fineman said, speaking to Musk in a video.

US President Donald Trump bought a red Tesla car to support CEO Elon Musk. Trump also purchased a red Tesla but admitted he "won't drive" it. He criticized the treatment of Musk, calling it unfair amid ongoing political and business tensions.

Trump buys Tesla; on White House driveway backs Elon Musk

US President <a href="https://www.wionews.com/donald-trump" rel="dofollow">Donald Trump</a> was handed a pre-written sales pitch by Elon Musk during a Tesla-buying event at the White House on Tuesday, a move widely seen as an effort to promote the electric car company amid growing backlash against Musk&rsquo;s role in a controversial government restructuring.
<h2>'They gave me notes'</h2>
Photographers captured Trump holding note cards detailing the price and specifications of various Tesla models as he inspected the vehicles on display. The president openly admitted the words were not his own. &ldquo;They gave me notes,&rdquo; he said, shuffling through the papers before stepping into one of the cars.

Photos of the document revealed phrases such as &ldquo;SAFEST car,&rdquo; &ldquo;state of the art,&rdquo; and &ldquo;affordable,&rdquo; suggesting Musk had provided Trump with a script to bolster Tesla&rsquo;s image.
The publicity stunt, which critics likened to an unpaid "Tesla advert," followed a sharp 15% drop in Tesla&rsquo;s stock on Monday, the steepest decline in five years. The plunge has been largely attributed to Musk&rsquo;s ties to Trump and the controversial Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

He went on to accuse political opponents of unfairly targeting Musk and Tesla. &ldquo;But the Radical Left Lunatics, as they often do, are trying to illegally and collusively boycott Tesla, one of the World&rsquo;s great automakers, and Elon&rsquo;s &lsquo;baby,&rsquo; in order to attack and do harm to Elon, and everything he stands for.&rdquo;

However, despite his promotional efforts, Trump&rsquo;s policies have so far hindered electric vehicle sales. He revoked a 2021 order by former president Joe Biden that aimed for half of all car sales to be electric by 2030 and froze unspent government funds for EV charging stations.

‘Safest, state-of-the-art, affordable’: Did Elon Musk hand Trump a ‘Tesla ad’ script amid stock plunge?

Trump turns the White House lawn into a Tesla showroom

The White House has responded to concerns over potential cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid after Elon Musk suggested that his administration's US DOGE Service might target waste and fraud within these programmes.
Speaking in a Fox Business interview on Monday, Musk claimed that &ldquo;waste and fraud&rdquo; in entitlement spending could be reduced, estimating potential savings of &ldquo;half a trillion, maybe 600 to 700 billion a year.&rdquo;&nbsp;

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt clarified on Tuesday that Musk was referring specifically to eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse within these programmes. She accused the media of taking his words &ldquo;out of context&rdquo; and added that the administration is not considering direct cuts to Social Security benefits.
<h2>What does Elon Musk think about Social Security?</h2>
Elon Musk has previously criticised Social Security, calling it a &ldquo;Ponzi scheme&rdquo; and sharing a meme describing beneficiaries as &ldquo;the Parasite Class&rdquo;. When pressed about his estimate that entitlement programmes could contain up to $700 billion in fraud, Leavitt defended Musk&rsquo;s statement, explaining that it was based on internal reviews conducted by DOGE. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s an estimate based on what he&rsquo;s seen. He&rsquo;s not saying definitively,&rdquo; she told reporters.
The administration also cited a report from the Government Accountability Office, which estimates that fraud across the entire government could range between $233 billion and $521 billion annually. However, these figures apply to all federal spending, not just Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

Government auditors have found that improper Social Security payments total around $10 billion per year, less than 1% of total benefits. In 2023, Medicare and Medicaid payment errors amounted to approximately $100 billion, though this includes clerical errors, not just fraud.
<h2>Elon Musk's comments face public&nbsp;backlash</h2>
Musk&rsquo;s comments have sparked backlash, particularly from Democrats who fear that benefit cuts may be on the horizon. Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-Michigan) took to social media, saying, &ldquo;Musk said the quiet part out loud: he&rsquo;s going after your Social Security and Medicare. Period.&rdquo;
Additionally, under DOGE&rsquo;s direction, the Social Security Administration (SSA) is preparing to lay off at least 7,000 employees. Overtime for workers processing benefit claims has been suspended, and some regional and field offices are being shut down. Democrats have warned that these changes could make it harder for Americans to access their benefits, potentially putting millions at risk.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk said X was hit by a major cyber attack after reports of problems with the social media platform started to do the rounds. Several users in Asia, Europe, and North America said that they could not access the platform. Watch this report to find out more.

X crashes multiple times on Monday, Elon Musk claims 'massive cyberattack'

On Monday, Elon Musk's owned X ( formerly Twitter) platform went down so many times that is caused issues across the globe for its users. Dark Storm Team is a pro-palestinian hacking group that has claimed responsibility for the outages of X.
The cyberattack caused several outages, with over 40,000 X users being affected. The platform was down for several hours before being active. X owner Elon Musk said the platform suffered a massive cyberattack. "Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved," Musk wrote, suggesting that a group is involved."
<h2>All about Dark Storm Team</h2>
Dark Storm Team is a pro-Palestinian hacker group founded in 2023. It is known for initiating cyberattacks against groups they perceive as Israel supporters. Their activities include Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks and other forms of cyber warfare, targeting governments, infrastructure, and organisations aligned with Israeli interests.

Dark Storm Team is not just working on ideology, it also offers cyberattack services for profit. The group offers DDoS attacks on websites, both secure and vulnerable, along with database breaches, as per their Telegram channel.
<h2>Dark Storm Threats</h2>
In February 2024, the Dark Storm Team issued warnings threatening cyberattacks on Israel, NATO countries, and countries supporting Israel. These threats questioned the group's intentions to harm critical services and government sites.
The group has reportedly joined hands with pro-Russian hacktivist organisations, extending their reach. Their activities include selling hacking tools and services through various media channels.

The Team has claimed responsibility for cyberattacks on US infrastructure, including a DDoS attack on John F Kennedy International Airport in October 2024, citing the airport's perceived support for Israel as motivation.
<h2>Cyberattack on X</h2>
Elon Musk has confirmed that it was a massive cyberattack. Cybersecurity experts identified the X attack as a multi-layered DDoS attack. Hackers flooded X's servers with an immense number of fake requests, crippling the platform's ability to function.
Unlike a simple traffic wave, the attack used a botnet, a network of hijacked devices. It includes personal computers, smart cameras, and routers. These devices, controlled remotely by the hackers, helped keep up the attack and made it harder to stop. X has yet to confirm whether the Dark Storm Team was behind the cyberattack.

Elon Musk says 'X' hit by major cyber attack, claims attack may have originated in Ukraine

Elon Musk says cyberattack caused 'X' global outages

Elon Musk has suggested that a major cyber attack was responsible for the multiple outages that hit his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), on Monday (March 10).
The billionaire entrepreneur claimed the attack was highly resourced and possibly linked to a coordinated group or even a nation.
"There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against 𝕏. We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved. Tracing &hellip;" Musk wrote on X.
His comments came in response to a post by a user named 'DogeDesigner', who had pointed out a pattern of recent disruptions, including protests against Dogecoin (DOGE), attacks on Tesla stores, and now, the outage on X.
"First, protests against DOGE. Then, Tesla stores were attacked. Now, 𝕏 is down. I wouldn&rsquo;t rule out the possibility that this downtime is the result of an attack on 𝕏," the user posted.
Another user responded, "They want to silence you and this platform," to which Musk replied, "yes."
Calls for further investigation also surfaced, with one user urging, "Trace it out and let everyone in X know who's behind it!"
Musk has not yet provided further details on the attack or any possible suspects.

The Trump administration is set to eliminate 83% of the programmes under the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and shift the remaining ones to the State Department, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Monday (March 10).

This decision shows the swift dismantling of the US' independent humanitarian agency, which had been on the hit list of both President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk. The remaining 1,000 USAID programmes will now be managed under the State Department&rsquo;s oversight.

<h2>Rubio defends cuts</h2>
In a post on X, Rubio said, "After a 6-week review we are officially cancelling 83% of the programmes at USAID. The 5200 contracts that are now cancelled spent tens of billions of dollars in ways that did not serve, (and in some cases even harmed), the core national interests of the United States."
He added, "In consultation with Congress, we intend for the remaining 18% of programmes we are keeping (approximately 1000) to now be administered more effectively under the State Department. Thank you to DOGE and our hardworking staff who worked very long hours to achieve this overdue and historic reform." DOGE, a Musk-backed office, has placed officials in key government roles and played a significant part in reducing federal spending.

<h2>Musk reacts</h2>
Musk, who had previously clashed with Rubio, responded to the announcement by saying, &ldquo;Tough, but necessary.&rdquo;
&ldquo;Good working with you. The important parts of USAID should always have been with Dept of State,&rdquo; Musk added. He has long been a vocal critic of USAID, even once suggesting that it should be "fed into a woodchipper."

A court filing in late February revealed that the administration had already cancelled nearly 5,800 USAID awards. It stated that Rubio had "made a final decision with respect to each award, on an individualised basis, affirmatively electing to either retain the award or terminate it pursuant to the terms of the instrument or independent legal authority as inconsistent with the national interests and foreign policy of the United States."
The administration&rsquo;s decision to freeze foreign aid payments and dismantle USAID has faced legal opposition. A federal judge permitted the government to proceed with suspending and terminating staff. However, another judge ruled that the administration must pay nearly $2 billion in outstanding fees for humanitarian work.

The Supreme Court upheld this ruling last week, though it did not specify when the payments would be made.
USAID has historically distributed billions of dollars annually to combat poverty, address diseases, and respond to crises such as famines and natural disasters. It also supports democracy-building initiatives, independent media, and social development projects.

Elon Musk pushes for US to exit NATO; 'Doesn’t make sense...'

US President Donald Trump has dismissed reports of a fallout between Elon Musk and Senator Marco Rubio, calling them "fake news." He emphasized that the two share a "great relationship" despite recent speculation. This statement comes amid growing political tensions and debates over tech industry regulations.

Trump denies rift between Elon Musk and Marco Rubio, calls it ‘fake'

One of President <a href="https://www.wionews.com/donald-trump" rel="dofollow">Donald Trump&rsquo;s</a> first actions upon returning to office in January was a sweeping removal of &ldquo;woke&rdquo; language across federal government websites. According to an investigation by the New York Times, this directive has led to hundreds of terms being erased or avoided in official communications.
The Times reported that the list of banned words includes phrases such as &ldquo;sense of belonging,&rdquo; &ldquo;all-inclusive&rdquo; and &ldquo;at risk.&rdquo; However, the purge has also extended to seemingly neutral terms like &ldquo;women,&rdquo; &ldquo;institutional&rdquo; and &ldquo;systemic.&rdquo;

<h2>A push for &lsquo;free speech,&rsquo; but with limits</h2>
On his first day back in office, Trump signed an executive order titled &ldquo;Restoring Freedom of Speech and Ending Federal Censorship.&rdquo; The order declared, &ldquo;Government censorship of speech is intolerable in a free society.&rdquo; However, the language restrictions now in place appear to contradict that stance.

According to The Times, additional words that federal agencies have been instructed to avoid include &ldquo;historically,&rdquo; &ldquo;Native American,&rdquo; &ldquo;health equity,&rdquo; and &ldquo;political.&rdquo; The list, compiled from various government memos, internal guidance documents, and official directives, shows a major shift in the administration&rsquo;s approach to language.
In some cases, agencies have been ordered to remove these words from public-facing materials, including websites and educational content. At other agencies, managers have been advised to exercise caution when using certain terms, though not all have been explicitly banned.

Is Trump reining in Musk, finally? US President Donald Trump on Thursday (March 6) addressed mounting criticism over sweeping government cuts led by billionaire advisor Elon Musk, stressing that staff cuts should be carefully targeted.
In what could be seen as the first move to rein in the seemingly unlimited power accorded to Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Trump on Truth Social wrote: "We say the 'scalpel' rather than the 'hatchet'," while emphasising that department heads&mdash;not Musk&mdash;would ultimately control personnel decisions.

<h2>Trump-Musk at odds?</h2>
No, Trump and Musk are not at odds, if one goes by the tone of his Truth Social post.
At the outset, the US president supported DOGE and its chief. According to a recent AP report, Musk in private talks told lawmakers this week that the firings of thousands of federal workers, including veterans, are the responsibility of individual agencies, not him.

"DOGE has been an incredible success, and now that we have my Cabinet in place, I have instructed the Secretaries and Leadership to work with DOGE on Cost-Cutting measures and Staffing. As the Secretaries learn about, and understand, the people working for the various Departments, they can be very precise as to who will remain, and who will go," said Trump.

According to Politico, Trump also conveyed directly to his cabinet, with Musk in attendance, that while the DOGE chief can make recommendations, the ultimate authority lies with his officials.
<h2>Federal workforce in turmoil</h2>
As part of the administration&rsquo;s effort to streamline government operations, tens of thousands of federal workers have already been dismissed or face termination. Millions of employees received directives from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and Musk, demanding justification for their roles in bullet-pointed memos&mdash;or risk losing their jobs.

Meanwhile, Musk, facing a backlash from within his task force, admitted to missteps during a meeting with Republicans on Wednesday (March 5).
According to Politico, nearly a third of DOGE's staffers resigned by February, citing concerns that the drastic measures endangered national stability.
"We swore to serve the American people and uphold our oath to the Constitution across presidential administrations," 21 DOGE members wrote in a letter to White House Chief of Staff Susan Wiles, reported the AFP news agency. "However, it has become clear that we can no longer honour those commitments," they wrote.

Trending | World | US President Donald Trump assures that department heads, not Elon Musk, will oversee federal workforce reductions or firings.

Is Trump reining in Musk, finally? US President Donald Trump on Thursday (March 6) addressed mounting criticism over sweeping government cuts led by billionaire advisor Elon Musk, stressing that staff cuts should be carefully targeted. In what could be seen as the first move to rein in the seemingly unlimited power accorded to Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Trump on Truth Social wrote: "We say the 'scalpel' rather than the 'hatchet'," while emphasising that department heads—not Musk—would ultimately control personnel decisions. The NASA astronauts, Sunita Williams and Butch Willmore, have been stranded in space for the past 9 months, marking the longest time astronauts have remained in space. After staying reticent for so long, they have now broken their silence. Watch in for more details!

India is set to see its first Tesla showroom. Reports suggest that the EV giant has signed a five-year lease in Mumbai's prime location. Tesla will pay an initial annual rent of $446,000, with an increase to $542,000 by the fifth year.
<h2>Tesla moves amid 'Trump effect'</h2>
This update comes as US President Donald Trump called out India for its high auto tariffs. Tesla and its CEO, Elon Musk, have long been critical of the high levies that India has imposed. High duties have kept Tesla from entering the world's third-largest car market. However, Musk now has the backing of Trump, who reaffirmed his aggressive tariffs stance. Reports also suggest that low auto tariffs are crucial in the ongoing India-US trade negotiations. Commerce Secretary Piyush Goyal is currently in the US to diffuse trade tensions and possibly find a middle ground for India - &nbsp;a deal that favours a strategic trade balance with the US but also protects its domestic industries.
<h2>Can Tesla compete in India?</h2>
Even if we imagine a world where Tesla rides on Indian roads, the journey is expected to be tricky. India's EV market is currently dominated by domestic automakers, with Tata Motors holding over 60 per cent market share. Pricing could be crucial since Tesla's base models cost nearly double the price of existing Indian EVs. Tesla can probably capitalise on the growing premiumisation of the Indian market, with luxury segments outpacing affordable shopping.
But pricing isn't the only challenge. EV infrastructure could be a bigger issue, with a glaring lack of charging stations. Tesla's low ground clearance may require re-engineering, significantly increasing costs. Electric vehicle growth is still nascent in the country, with EVs making up less than 3 per cent of the total passenger car sales in India, which, in hindsight, could mean unearthed potential.
<h2>Can India become a safe haven for Tesla?</h2>
Tesla's India bet also comes at a crucial time globally. The company faces rising opposition in Europe amid protests against Elon Musk. Multiple vandalism reports have emerged across the US and Europe. Meanwhile, cyber truck owners report harassment and intimidation on the roads as Tesla's once-loyal fan base crumbles. Now, a movement called 'Tesla Takedown' is gaining momentum, urging consumers to boycott Musk's businesses. As growth challenges mount in mature markets, a country like India - one of the world's fastest-growing auto markets - could be crucial for Tesla's expansion.
