West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Friday (Jan 5) condemned the attack on members of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) team and called it a "ghastly incident". He also summoned the Home Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP) over their alleged role in the attack.

While speaking to the press, he said it&nbsp;is the prime responsibility of a&nbsp;government to bar vandalism in a democracy.

"It is a ghastly incident. It is alarming and deplorable. It is the duty of a civilised government to stop barbarism and vandalism in a democracy. If a government fails in its basic duty, then the Constitution of India will take its course. I reserve all my constitutional options for appropriate action. This pre-election violence should find an early end, and this is the beginning of that end," said Bose.

On Thursday night (Jan 4),&nbsp;an Enforcement Directorate team was attacked by a mob and their vehicles vandalised in Sandeshkhali village of North 24 Parganas in West Bengal.

This happened at the time the agency was conducting raids at the residence of former Bongaon Municipality Chairman Shankar Adhya&nbsp;and TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan's house over their role in an alleged ration scam case, said an ED official.

Shahjahan is the Fisheries and Animal Resources Officer of North 24 Parganas Zilla Parishad as well as Block President of Sandeshkhali 1.

Two&nbsp;ED officials suffered injuries in the incident.

A member of the raiding ED team said, "Eight people came to the spot. We three moved from the incident spot ...they attacked us."

TMC MP Santanu Sen, however, claimed that the officials of the federal agency 'provoked' the locals which led to a counter-reaction from the people.

"The officers of the Central investigation agency surrounded by the Central forces provoked the local people. That's why there were counter-reactions continuously," he said.

Sen also said that the people of the country are 'frustrated' with actions taken by the central agencies which are being 'monitored from Delhi'.

"The real fact is the people of India are frustrated watching this deep-rooted conspiracy engineered and monitored from Delhi daily and that too in the case of TMC in West Bengal...On the contrary, the person who's posting all this on social media is topping the list of corruption. He was found taking money before the camera. His other family members are accused of corruption but no action was taken against them because they belong to BJP," said Sen.

India's federal agency Enforcement Directorate (ED) said on Tuesday that it has attached immovable assets and equity shares worth about Rs 752 crores (USD 90 billion) as part of its investigation against Indian National Congress-promoted National Herald newspaper in the case of money laundering allegations.

The provisional attachment order against assets of National Herald and companies linked to it took place just as election process in five Indian states (Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Mizoram) is going on. Counting of votes is due to be held on December 3.

The Congress has termed the action taken by the ED as "petty vendetta tactics" and has called ED a "coalition partner" of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Congress said that the BJP is going to get defeated in the state assembly elections.&nbsp;

The Enforcement Directorate, a federal probe agency in India, has alleged that donors and shareholders of the Congress were "cheated" by Associated Journals Ltd (AJL) and Young Indian (YI).

AJL publishes the National Herald newspaper and is owned by Young Indian Private Limited. Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have majority of shares in Young India with 38 per cent stake owned by each of them.

The provisional order, such as the one issued by the ED while attaching the assets, needs to be approved by Adjudicating Authority of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) within six months. After that ED can take possession of these attached properties.

"Investigation revealed that Associated Journals Ltd. (AJL) is in possession of proceeds of crime in the form of immovable properties spread across many cities of India such as Delhi, Mumbai and Lucknow to the tune of Rs. 661.69 crore (USD 79 billion) and Young Indian (YI) is in possession of proceeds of crime to the tune of Rs. 90.21 crore (USD 10 billion) in the form of investment in equity shares of AJL," ED said in a statement.

The immovable assets owned by the National Herald include an office at ITO, Delhi and another near Kaiserbagh in Lucknow. Last year, ED questioned the Gandhis, and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in addition to Pawan Bansal, DK Shivakumar and DK Suresh.

PTI cited sources to say that the leaders may be called for questioning again before the federal agency files a charge sheet.

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj told news agency ANI about the party's plan if Kejriwal is taken into custody.&nbsp;

"It would be decided by the senior leaders of the party. But if the whole party is in jail, then the government and the party would run from jail. And this is what the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) wants: everyone should be in jail… They want free education, free electricity, free water, free pilgrimage, hospitals, and mohalla clinics to stop but Arvind Kejriwal will not let this happen…", said Bharadwaj.

The Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) national convenor has been asked to depose at the ED's Delhi office at 11 am (local time)&nbsp;on November 2, the sources said. 
 
This is the first time that Kejriwal has been summoned by the ED. He was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the case in April. 
 
Reacting to the summons, Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said it is clear that the BJP-led Centre's only goal is to finish the AAP.

The ED has mentioned Kejriwal's name multiple times in its chargesheets filed in the case and said the accused were in touch with him regarding the preparation of the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. 
 
The ED has claimed in one of the chargesheets that it has recorded the statement of Butchibabu, an accountant allegedly linked to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha, in which he said "there was political understanding between K Kavitha and the chief minister (Kejriwal) and (former) deputy chief minister (Manish Sisodia). In that process, K Kavitha also met Vijay Nair (AAP communications in-charge arrested in the case) on March 19-20, 2021". 
 
In an another instance involving arrested accused Dinesh Arora, the ED said he told the agency that he had met Kejriwal once at his residence.

Similarly, the ED chargesheet said YSRCP MP Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy also held meetings with Kejriwal, wherein the AAP leader welcomed his entry into the Delhi liquor business.

It had said Buchibabu and another accused, Arun Pillai, have revealed that they and Nair were working with the "support and sanction" of Kejriwal and Sisodia for all the excise policy-related activities, including its formulation and implementation. 
 
It had also alleged that Nair "arranged a video call through facetime (a video-calling facility on iPhone) on his phone for another arrested accused, Sameer (Mahendru), and Sh Arvind Kejriwal, where Sh Arvind said to Sh Sameer that Vijay is his boy and that Sh Sameer should trust him and carry on with him".

Kejriwal had then rubbished the contents of the ED complaint, saying the agency has "filed 5,000 chargesheets under the tenure of the current government". 
 
"How many people have been sentenced? All the cases filed by the ED are fake and they are used to topple governments or form them. The ED does not file cases to eradicate corruption. They do it to buy MLAs, topple governments. There is a question on the ED chargesheet," he had said.

It is alleged that the Delhi government's excise policy for 2021-22 to grant licences to liquor traders allowed cartelisation and favoured certain dealers who allegedly paid bribes for it, a charge strongly refuted by the AAP. 
 
The policy was subsequently scrapped and the Delhi lieutenant governor recommended a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in its implementation, following which the ED registered a case under the PMLA. 
 
In a related development, the Supreme Court rejected two separate bail pleas of Sisodia in corruption and money-laundering cases related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam and said a transfer of Rs 338 crore was tentatively established in the matter.

As per reports from the Delhi Police, one of the culprits has been apprehended, while intense operations are currently underway to track down the remaining perpetrators.

The team's quick action secured a substantial part of the stolen money. The police control room (PCR) team managed to intercept a suspicious vehicle in Narela area, recovering a substantial sum of $84.05k in cash.

The apprehended suspect was found in possession of a firearm and four live cartridges, raising more questions about the crime.

The victim of this heist is a young individual working in the private sector banking industry in Gurugram.

Identified by the alias 'Sundar,' the 25-year-old had recently completed a significant land sale transaction. He had received a payment of $384k in cash, securely storing it inside the confines of his home, tucked away beneath his bed.

The remainder of the sale price was received through two separate cheques.

The criminals, posing as ED officers, descended upon Sundar's residence, accusing him of harbouring illicit funds.

In this swift fake operation, they confiscated the entire cash stash, making away with the significant sum. Not content with this theft, the culprits also seized the mobile phones belonging to both Sundar and his mother.

As the investigation unfolded, the arrested suspect, identified as Amit, provided a crucial lead.

India: Miscreants pose as law enforcement officers in Delhi's $384k money heist

India's Enforcement Directorate&nbsp;conducted searche at the premises owned by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Amanatullah Khan in connection with a money laundering case. The ED took action based on a First Information Report (FIR) filed by Delhi's Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and another which was filed by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The cases pertain to alleged corruption over appointments to the Delhi Waqf Board, which Khan chairs.

Khan, 49,&nbsp;faces allegations that he illegally recruited 32 persons for the Delhi Waqf Board violating norma and government guidelines.

It is also alleged that he indulged in corruption and favouritism. 
 
The ACB arrested Khan last&nbsp;September in connection with the Delhi Waqf Board corruption case after recovery of alleged incriminating material and evidence. He was granted bail later.

Khan&nbsp;is a member of legislative assembly (MLA) representing Okhla constituency in the Delhi Assembly.

The ED searches are being undertaken under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The raids on Khan's premises came close on the heels of arrest of fellow AAP leader Sanjay Singh in connection with an alleged Delhi excise policy scam.

Singh, a member of Parliament's upper hou&nbsp;e&nbsp;Rajya Sabha, was arrested from his residence in New Delhi by the ED.

He was second prominent leader from AAP&nbsp;in another case, about the liquor policy. Another AAP leader, former Delhi helath mnister Satyendar Jain, was arrested in a separate case.

They searched the premises of Sujit Patkar and IAS officer Sanjeev Jaiswal. Patkar is a close aide to Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and Jaiswal, then additional municipal commissioner, is a close aide to Aaditya Thackeray. ED has also raided the premises of contractors and intermediaries involved in the alleged scam. The raided places include Lifeline Hospital Management Services in Sasmira Marg, Worli, and Patkar's residence in Santacruz (East), the Indian Express reported. About Mumbai's Covid Jumbo Centre Scam The Enforcement Directorate opened the investigation into the alleged Covid jumbo centre scam based on the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). In August 2022, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Kirit Somaiya, registered an FIR about the same at the Azad Maidan police station against four Lifeline Hospital Management Services partners, including Sujit Patkar. The other four names in the FIR were Dr Hemant Ramsharan Gupta, Sanjay Madanlal Shah, and Raju Nandkumar Salunkhe. Later, the local police transferred the case to the Mumbai Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW). In January 2023, EOW asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) senior officials for details about contracts and transfers to Lifeline Hospital Management Services. During the pandemic, the civic body contracted the company to set up Covid jumbo centres in Mumbai. ED also interrogated the civic officials about the matter. BJP leader Kirti Somaiya claimed the Covid jumbo centre scam is a ₹100-crore scam. However, the Mumbai Police EOW pegged it at ₹38 crore. ED has searched the Chembur residence of Suraj Chouhan, another close aide of Aaditya Thackeray. In the FIR, Somaiya accused the firm of getting the contract by forging documents, including the partnership deed. He also accused the firm of hiding information about being barred by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority from giving medical services. Furthermore, the BJP leader alleged that the authorities allotted the contracts at exorbitant rates to contractors linked to Shiv Sena leaders but had prior experience in the healthcare service sector. India's ED issues show-cause notice to Xiaomi over illegal remittances

Bollywood model and dancer Nora Fatehi arrived at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office on Friday in a Rs 200 crore money laundering case that is linked to conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar. The economic intelligence agency ED questioned Nora Fatehi earlier in September as well in the extortion case including another Bollywood celebrity Jacqueline Fernandez.

According to ED, Nora Fatehi and Jacqueline Fernandez received luxury cars and other expensive gifts from conman Sukesh. Sukesh Chandrashekhar is currently in jail and is accused of cheating various people including high-profile individuals such as the former Fortis Healthcare promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh's wife, Aditi Singh.&nbsp;

Earlier when Nora Fatehi was summoned by ED she told them that she had no clue about the events that are currently on the radar of ED, "Nora Fatehi says she didn't know that the event where she was invited to in Chennai had links to this crime syndicate. But everything will have to be seen, how were the car and gifts that she had received used. We'll reach a conclusion only with a proper probe".

According to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday, the government has sent letters to Oppo, Vivo India, and Xiaomi in connection with incidents of potential tax fraud. Jacqueline in her reply furnished before the concerned authority said that she made the FDs before having any links with the conman. It was her income which was legal and tax was also paid on it, she added. 
 
"It is my own earned money. At that time Chandrashekhar didn`t exist in this world. This should be released. The allegations against me is that I received gifts from him," she said in her reply. 
 
Recently, the ED attached a number of Jacqueline`s FDs claiming it was tainted money. The agency has also filed second supplementary chargesheet recently in the matter against the actress.

Pravin M Raut, Sanjay Raut's aide has also come under the scanner. Pravin Raut was arrested earlier by the ED in a probe linked to an alleged land scam related to the redevelopment of the Patra 'chawl' in Mumbai's Goregaon area.&nbsp;

Pravin Raut is presently in judicial custody. A charge sheet was filed by the agency against Pravin Raut. The ED had questioned Varsha Raut last year in connection with the PMC Bank case and her purported links with Pravin Raut's wife.

The summons is related to a nine-year-old complaint filed by Subramanian Swamy,&nbsp;a lawmaker from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul.

Swamy, a lawmaker, accused the Gandhis of creating a shell corporation and obtaining ownership of properties worth $300 million unlawfully.

The assets in dispute belonged to a company that published the National Herald newspaper, which was created in 1937 by Jawaharlal Nehru, Rahul Gandhi's great grandfather and India's first prime minister.

According to sources close to the &nbsp;ED, Kundra reportedly formed a company named Arms Prime Media Limited in February 2019 and developed an app named 'Hotshots' which was later sold to a UK-based company Kenrin. 
 
The CEO of Kenrin is Pradeep Bakshi, who is actually Raj Kundra's brother-in-law. Further, for the maintenance of the Hotshots app, Kundra`s company Viaan Industries had tied up with Kenrin and for this, the transaction of crores of rupees was made to 13 bank accounts of Viaan, sources said.&nbsp;

Sources further said that the Hotshots app was actually a platform for porn movies, which were made in India and uploaded on the Hotshots app to offer subscriptions. The amount of money earned through the subscribers was transacted in the name of Kundra's company Viaan Industries. This way the money earned from porn films used to come into the account of Kundra's company circulating through the UK. 
 
Raj Kundra was arrested on July 19, 2021 along with 11 other people on <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/bollywood/news-shilpa-shettys-husband-raj-kundra-among-11-held-for-making-pornographic-films-399126">charges related to the alleged creation of pornographic films</a>.On September 20, Kundra was granted bail by a Mumbai Court in the pornography case on a surety of Rs 50,000. 
 
Allegations were levelled against Kundra for allegedly producing and distributing porn films using a subscriber-driven mobile app called 'Hotshots'.On the other hand, Kundra has refuted all the charges levelled against him by saying that he has been falsely implicated.
