The police have only been able to retrieve the Mercedes Maybach. The other four vehicles that were taken from Brentwood Road in Bulphan, close to the M25, are still being sought by Essex Police. Anyone with information was urged by the police to call 101 and report the crime.&nbsp;

BBC has reported that luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz is soon to charge customers an 'acceleration fee' for some of its electric cars to accelerate faster. As per the report, the company will charge customers USD 1200 excluding tax per year. With this, some of its vehicles will accelerate from 0-60 mph a second faster.

The move by Mercedes Benz follows one from BMW which launched a subscription service earlier this year for heated seats. BBC said that Mercedes does not plan to introduce 'acceleration increase' in UK currently. The subscription will however be available in the US for Mercedes-EQ EQE 350 and EQS 450 vehicles. Their SUV counterparts will be eligible for the subscription as well. However, no exact date has yet been officially announced by the company for the rollout of the subscription.

Customers and the public in general were surprised earlier this year when BMW announced 25 pounds monthly fee to unlock heated seats and steering in their cars.

This was not the first subscription option launched by carmakers. In 2021, Toyota&nbsp;had announced that it would charge USD 8 to some customers to enable them to start their cars remotely. In 2019, Elon Musk-led Tesla announced USD 2000 one-time fee to make its Model-3 cars accelerate from 0-60 mph half a second faster.

However, due to supply chain constraints, the company is unable to get its hands on the badges and car model-specific nameplates. However, it dropped the plan after the 3-D printed insignia did not meet the standards of quality. Data suggest that approximately 40,000 to 45,000 Ford vehicles, at the end of the third quarter, have not been shipped to the dealers because they do not have some of the important parts. The global auto industry has been wrestling with various supply-chain disruptions for more than a year. Semiconductor has been one of the most sought-after piece of equipment that has been hard to come by. However, the fact that Ford cannot get its hands on basic equipment such as a badge suggests that the supply chain crisis goes beyond a silicon chip. While there is a backlog of deliveries, Ford has not made matters easier for itself by recently recalling more than 200,000 SUVs in the United States due to some issues with the fan motors. Reportedly, Japanese automaker Honda, according to a statement overpaid the bonus to its workers at the Marysville, Ohio plant. 3,900 employees currently work at the plant and it is unclear how many of them received the extra bonus. “Earlier this month Honda provided bonus payments to its associates, some of whom received overpayments," said Chris Abbruzzese, a Honda spokesperson. Honda added it was a sensitive matter and that they were moving quickly to sort the problem, "Issues related to compensation are a sensitive matter...we are working quickly on this item to minimize any potential impact to our associates.” The company, in a memo, addressed to the employees is now asking them to return the bonus, latest by September 22, or have it deducted from future paychecks or future bonuses. According to media reports, some employees have been asked to return as much as eight per cent of their bonus, despite having spent the money on mortgages and groceries already. It is pertinent to note that the particular Ohio factory produces cars such as Accord, CR-V, TLX, NSX, and Integra. If the employees decide to not pay back the money, experts believe that Honda might sue them as there has been a precedent in such cases. Honda overpaying bonus comes in the backdrop of the company facing supply chain, chip shortage, and logistical issues. Last month, Honda announced that it would slash production by up to 40 per cent in Japan in September. There may not have been a movie on this but rats that are being studied in University of Richmond in the US can drive around in cars, quite literally!

Well, to be fair, these are not exactly Porsche they are driving. The 'cars' they are driving are made of empty plastic boxes. But rats acquiring skill to drive a vehicle, however small, is an achievement in itself.&nbsp;

Kelly Lambert at the University of Richmond make these tiny cars. The cars are made of transparent plastic boxes and have aluminium floors. There are three copper bars inside the car that the rats can touch. Whenever the rat touches a bar, it completes a circuit and the car moves. The bar on the left moves the car to left. The bar on the right moves the car to the right.

With talks deadlocked, Tesla put its plans to sell cars in India on hold, reassigned some of the domestic team and abandoned its search for showroom space.

An email sent to Khurana generated an automated reply saying the address was no longer valid and future emails would not be received.

"Tesla's plans to launch in India right now are as good as dead", said one of the sources.

Tesla India policy executive quits after company puts entry plan on hold

In the face of strong conservative opposition, European&nbsp;Parliament&nbsp;lawmakers on Wednesday narrowly voted to back a European&nbsp;Commission proposal for a total ban on new CO2-emitting vehicles by 2035.

The Commission last year unveiled plans to stop the sale of vehicles using internal combustion engines as part of an ambitious climate target to cut emissions by more than half over this decade and 90 per cent by 2035.

The measure passed by 339 votes to 249 with 24 abstentions at a session in Strasbourg -- in practice limiting future sales to emissions-free all-electric models.

Cars currently account for 12 percent of all CO2 emissions in the 27-member&nbsp;EU&nbsp;bloc, while transportation overall accounts for around a quarter.

The conservative European People's Party (EPP), the&nbsp;parliament's biggest group of lawmakers, had sought to push a compromise that would have diluted the proposals and allowed sales of hybrid vehicles to continue.

Their amendment was narrowly defeated while an ambitious attempt by the Greens to bring the measure deadline forward to 2030 also failed.

Conservatives were also unable to push through amendments on having a car's production-related carbon footprint taken into consideration as well -- potentially allowing carmakers credits for synthetic, so-called e-fuels, made with captured carbon dioxide and hydrogen produced from renewable sources.

After the vote,&nbsp;EU&nbsp;environmental committee chair Pascal Canfin triumphantly tweeted: "100 percent zero emission cars in 2035! I strongly welcome the vote on CO2 standards in the @Europarl_EN. This position of the European&nbsp;Parliament&nbsp;is an important victory and consistent with our objective of climate neutrality."

Suzuki, which is the parent organisation of Maruti Suzuki which operates in India, are slowly looking to expand EV sales as the Indian government are also promoting clean energy vehicles as part of its decarbonisation effect, according to Kyodo News agency who cited various sources.

The report comes as India and Japan launched a `Clean Energy Partnership (CEP)` for cooperation towards achieving sustainable economic growth during Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida`s visit to India.&nbsp; The initiative was launched on the occasion of the 14th India-Japan Annual Summit.<o:p></o:p>

"The partnership will lead to clean growth by boosting job creation, innovation and investments. It will also demonstrate to the world that India and Japan are at the forefront in delivering on the ambitious climate and sustainable development goals,"

They also need very high-power during the vertical take-off and landing.

Weight is also a consideration for these batteries. These futuristic taxis will be making multiple trips in a day to be profitable. So, they need batteries that can quickly recharge.

Until the batteries are made more viable, a widespread rollout of flying taxis is unlikely in the near future.

Shortage of pilots

Another concern around flying electric cars is the pilot workforce.

Most of these vehicles will need pilots initially, at least until pilotless operations become widespread.

It’s said these vehicles will eventually fly autonomously, but that could take a decade or more. So, recruiting and deploying pilots will add to training burdens and costs.

McKinsey estimates that electric vertical take-off and landing vehicle operators will need to attract and train roughly 60,000 pilots by 2028 — it equates to 7% of all commercial pilots in 2018

This is an important challenge, but much less discussed than other issues associated with urban air mobility.

Infrastructure and regulatory challenges

According to analysts, there is a need to drive down costs of these flying cars so that they serve as more than just a quieter helicopter replacement for the ultra-wealthy.

Strict safety requirements need to be in place, especially for operating in dense urban environments.

Noise is another critical issue. There are fears flying vehicles will increase noise levels over cities.

And then there are the infrastructure challenges. Adding new transportation capacity in most cities is not easy; it's extremely expensive and space may be hard to come by.

These issues need to be addressed before these vehicles gain widespread approval.

The crew was then taken to &nbsp;Faial island by helicopter.&nbsp;

Fortunately, none of the crew members were hurt.

The fire, however, is still active on the ship and the owners have arranged for a tow.

Porsche Cars North America, in a statement, said, "Our immediate thoughts are of relief that the 22 crew of the merchant ship "Felicity Ace" are safe and well. A number of our cars are among the cargo. We are in contact with the shipping company and the details of the cars on board are now known."

Expectant Porsche owners are already in talks about the status of their vehicles. The company has also said that those "concerned by this incident and the implications on the car" &nbsp;should contact their Porsche dealer.
