Shares in Ferrari went into reverse on Friday as the Italian luxury carmaker failed to lift its guidance for 2019 despite strong results in the first part of the year.

Releasing its second quarter results, the company confirmed that it was on track for the higher end of the guidance range for all relevant figures. However, that left some disappointed that there was no upgrade signalled.

"The market was expecting them to raise their guidance for the year," a Milan-based trader said.

Trading in Milan-listed shares was halted for excessive declines after a 6.9% drop and they were down 3.95% by 1024 GMT.

For&nbsp;2019, Ferrari forecasts its adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) to rise around 10 per cent to between 1.2-1.25 billion euros. Sales are seen growing by more than 3 per cent to more than 3.5 billion euros.

In the second quarter, core earnings rose 8.7% led by robust deliveries of its Portofino and 812 Superfast models.

Adjusted EBITDA came at 314 million euros ($348 million) in the April-June period, in line with analyst expectations, according to a Reuters survey.

The firm recently introduced a new electric sports utility vehicle slightly bigger and more expensive than its Model 3, pitched as an electric car for the masses.

- The all-new Civic comes with both petrol and diesel fuel options. The petrol versions will come with a 1.8-litre engine mated with a CVT (automatic) transmission.&nbsp;

- The diesel trims will come with a 1.6-litre engine mated to a manual six-speed transmission.

- According to the company, the petrol variants deliver a fuel efficiency of 16.5 km per litre, while the diesel versions would offer fuel efficiency of 26.8 km per litre.

- The new Civic in petrol is priced between Rs 17.7 lakh and Rs 21 lakh.

Like the sedans, he said, "We also want to have a complete range of SUV. We know there are gaps in our SUV portfolio which we are working to fill."

Nakanishi, however, did not elaborate when and how many SUVs would be launched in India. The company currently sells compact SUV W-RV, mid-sized B-RV and top end C-RV.

The Amaze will continue to be the company's entry-level model, he said adding that "the volumes that we lose out from not having Brio will be made up by sales from models such as the Amaze, Civic and others that we have in our portfolio".

The Supreme Court on Monday asked the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to consider whether to widen the scope of scrutiny into compliance of all car manufacturers with the emission norms, as German auto major Volkswagen has challenged a punitive action of the tribunal.

A bench, headed by Justice D Y Chandrachud, said that there was no occasion to take punitive action against the directors of Volkswagen for the delay in depositing of Rs 100 crore fine to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), as it had already extended the deadline.

The NGT had on January 17 imposed a penalty of Rs 100 crore on Volkswagen, saying its cars were violating the pollution norms.

A four-member committee constituted by the NGT had recommended a fine of Rs 171.34 crore on Volkswagen for excess nitrogen oxide emissions.

The committee in its report had estimated that Volkswagen cars allegedly released 48.678 tonnes of NO in 2016 in the National Capital Region.

The Volkswagen Group challenged the NGT’s fine, contending that all its cars are "compliant with emission norms in India."Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Volkswagen, told the apex court bench that the company had deposited the amount of Rs 100 crore on January 17 as directed by the NGT.

The tribunal had said that non-compliance can lead to the arrest of the company's India head.

“We would like to clarify that intent and purpose of this court in December extending time for compliance was to ensure that until this court took up the matter on next date, the coercive measure cannot be taken for non-compliance of the order,” said the Supreme Court bench.

It asked the NGT to include Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in a four-member committee appointed by the expert panel.

The NGT had constituted a joint team of representatives of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Ministry of Heavy Industries, the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute.

The tribunal had asked for a report on whether Volkswagen has exceeded the prescribed environmental norms and fair estimate of the damage caused to the environment.

The Supreme Court also noted that the committee had submitted its report and proceedings are now pending before the NGT. The bench said it is now proper for the tribunal to deal with the report on merits.

The tribunal’s order had come on pleas filed by a school teacher, Saloni Ailawadi, and a few others seeking a ban on the sale of Volkswagen vehicles for alleged violation of emission norms.&nbsp;

Toyota Motor Corp and Suzuki Motor Corp on Thursday announced a basic agreement to produce cars for each other in India as Toyota aims to increase its market share in the fast-growing country dominated by its smaller rival.

The automakers said in a statement that the agreement would cover vehicles including gasoline hybrids.&nbsp;

Suzuki will supply its Baleno hatchback and Vitara Brezza compact SUV to Toyota, while Toyota will produce the Corolla sedan for Suzuki.

Toyota and Suzuki will produce the models for each other as original equipment manufacturers, and these will be included in each others' branded offerings, the companies said.

The agreement deepens a partnership announced by the two Japanese automakers a year ago, under which they will share expertise on new technologies and parts supply.&nbsp;

The Global New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) announced the launch of &quot;Safer Choice&quot; awards under their Safer Cars for India campaign in the Auto Expo Show 2018, on Wednesday.&nbsp;

The program will be specific to Indian cars that meet the highest level of safety performance&nbsp;according to the NCAP ratings. No Indian made mass market car has yet received a rating of 5-star from the organisation.&nbsp;

The highest NCAP rated cards include Volkswagen Polo, Toyota Etios and Tata Zest which have received 4 stars in the NCAP test.&nbsp;

Speaking on the occasion, David Ward, Global NCAP Secretary General said, &quot;Launching our &#39;Safer Choice&#39; Award is an important new development in our Safer Cars for India campaign. We very much look forward to the first automaker in India to achieve the accolade of five-star &#39;Safer Choice&#39; performance.&quot;

Max Mosley, President Emeritus, said: &ldquo;It is very pleasing to see the significant progress in vehicle safety in India since Global NCAP launched its first crash test results in Delhi in 2014. In January 2014 the first ever independent crash test results for cars sold in India were released by Global NCAP at a conference in Delhi hosted by the Institute for Road Traffic Education (IRTE). Global NCAP has now completed twenty-five safety assessments which have acted as an important catalyst in the safety improvement of Indian cars.

To qualify for a Global NCAP &lsquo;Safer Choice&rsquo; Award, a car model must achieve all of the following requirements:

1. The model must achieve a 5-star score for Adult Occupant Protection in accordance with the latest version of the Global NCAP New Market Test protocol.

2. The model must achieve at least a 4-star result in Child Occupant Protection in accordance with latest version of the Global NCAP New Market Test protocol.

3. The model must offer Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and meet performance requirements according to United Nations Regulations UN13H, UN140 or GTR9. Where optional, ESC must be available on all the model variants, sold separately without any &lsquo;bundling&rsquo; with other features, and as from 2 years onwards must be a standard fit to at least 20% of the sales volume in the country.

4. The model must meet Pedestrian Protection requirements according to United Nations Regulations UN127 or GTR9. which must be validated on market units at a Global NCAP designated testing laboratory.

5. Conformity with all of these requirements must be validated at a Global NCAP designated laboratory and by the provision of type approval certificates where applicable.

Taking into account the current parking situation in the nation, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari directed on Monday that a reward will be given to anyone who clicks a picture of a wrongly parked car and sends it to the authorities.&nbsp;

Gadkari said that the individual will get a 10% reward, from the authorities, from the proposed Rs. 500 fine charged on the owner of the vehicle.&nbsp;

&ldquo;In my Motor Vehicle Act, I am going to add one law. Any car on road, you just take the photo on your mobile and send it to the department concerned or Police. There will be Rs 500 fine and 10 per cent will go to the complainant,&rdquo; Gadkari said Monday. &ldquo;No parking places are available. People are using roads for that,&rdquo; he said.

Gadkari said he felt &ldquo;ashamed&rdquo; that absence of parking lots outside his own Ministry forced &ldquo;ambassadors&rdquo; and &ldquo;big people&rdquo; to park on road blocking the way to Parliament.&nbsp;

The Transport Minister also said that it took him nine months to get approval for a &#39;simple automated parking lot&#39; from the then Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu.&nbsp;

The automated parking lot is being carried out by NHIDCL and will consist of seven floors, enabling it to accommodate around 112 cars.&nbsp;

Gadkari had earlier floated the idea of rewarding &nbsp;Rs. 200 to citizens who click pictures of wrongly parked cars, claiming that it was his personal view and it can only be enforced by putting the necessary infrastructure in place.&nbsp;

It is also mysterious in its origin. No one knows as to who is responsible for its coming. Some in past suggested that it was pre-ordained but rest continue to blame everyone for its becoming. So, the talk remains a conversation or like a whisper but never an outrage.

I often ask myself as to why we have failed to beat the beast? Is it the lack of will? Or, are we uninformed about its anatomy? I don&rsquo;t think so. I think we all have an idea of what is eating our flesh gently.

The beast has been unbearable and selfish this year. It incapacitated a lot of people. Victims had to rush to buy the best protection. Though some were plain faint hearts. They collapsed and passed away. Quickly.

Misery also creates good business opportunities. Two of my friends did well. They ended up making a good money. Last, I heard that left for La La Land with their children. I hate them for their entrepreneurship. They were smart enough to invest in the industry of precaution where new and better coping mechanisms are being designed. It is collaborative and remains profitable. I have also been told that it will continue to grow.

Perhaps, my despair stems from the fact that I cannot escape as quickly as I want. I cannot fight it. It cannot be fought alone. That&rsquo;s the shield of the beast.

Sometimes it also gives you relief from the drudgery of the world. For hours, it makes shanties in front of my multi-story apartment disappear. Though I can smell the dirty shanty town. Obviously, the beast also has a chink in its armour. It can make ugly things disappear temporarily but cannot hide the stench.

So, I often take little chances by immersing myself in his shadow. It smells slightly acidic. Obviously not like rotten eggs but bearable enough to remind me of my childhood of a different entity, a more benign one, which would descend on us on yearly basis. It had a similar look but spared us. Like a separated, civilised twin.

Those were yesteryears. In the past, everyone knew with winter comes the fog. There was no panic or little precaution. But these days we all have to brace ourselves, waiting anxiously for its twin to spare us. We all fail to agree on a strategy to beat the shit out of it. It is not as if the &lsquo;us&rsquo; isn&rsquo;t concerned but it doesn&rsquo;t motivate anyone to remove the head from the monster&rsquo;s body.

&nbsp;Relief is that no one dies immediately. It begins with a gentle cough. It persists like a heartbeat to turn itself into a different creature inside you. Though many similar cases have been reported.

Those who ultimately die have millions of things to blame upon unlike the other types of malevolences where a finger can be pointed. Last year in a nearby hospital, a lot of women died because of dirty syringes. The doctor got lynched. There is no one to lynch here. I suppose it is impossible to lynch your-self and suicide is illegal in my country. &nbsp;

Then the city I live in has a robust democratic tradition. We all agree to disagree. Last Diwali, I couldn&rsquo;t even convince my aunt to ensure a Green Diwali.

Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan slashed prices of its mid-sized sedan Sunny in India by up to Rs 1.99 lakh, citing better localisation.

Sunny will be now available at a starting price of Rs 6.99 lakh going up to Rs 8.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), Nissan Motor India Pvt Ltd (NMIPL) said in a statement.

Under the new prices, petrol variant of Sunny will now cost Rs 6.99 lakh, a cut of Rs 1.01 lakh, while the top-end automatic transmission variant is tagged at Rs 8.99 lakh, a reduction of Rs 1.99 lakh.

Similarly, the base variant of diesel option will see a price cut of Rs 1.31 lakh. It is now priced at Rs 7.49 lakh. The top-end variant is now cheaper by Rs 94,000 at Rs 8.99 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).

Commenting on the price cut, NMIPL Managing Director Arun Malhotra said, &quot;Local production of this car enables significantly lower costs...We pass on these benefits to our customers with very competitive prices for the Nissan Sunny, our popular premium sedan.&quot;

Last year, the company had slashed prices of automatic transmission variant of its premium hatchback Micra in India by up to Rs 54,252 on the back of increased parts localisation.

Nissan India slashes Sunny sedan prices by up to Rs 1.99 lakh

Italian super sports car maker Lamborghini launched its latest Huracan Performante model in India with price starting at Rs 3.97 crore as it bids to strengthen leadership position in the segment.

The Performante is the newest addition to the Huracan range. Powered by a 5.2-litre V10 petrol engine, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 2.9 seconds. It has a top speed of over 325 km per hour.

&quot;We had a good year last year. This is the third launch for us in 2017 and we hope that it will help us strengthen our leadership position here in India,&quot; Lamborghini India head Sharad Agarwal told PTI here.

He said the company has already sold out the allocation of Lamborghini Performante for the year in India. &quot;We are currently requesting more allocation for India as this is one of the important markets for Lamborghini,&quot; he added.

Globally, the company limits the production to around 3,700 to 3,800 units a year and different markets are allocated only a certain number of units.

The Lamborghini Performante has a hybrid aluminum and carbon fibre frame that makes it lighter by 40 kg than other Huracan family models.

The company has been present in India for around three years and sold 28 units last year achieving leadership position in the super cars segment.

It sells a range of sports cars under its Huracan and Aventador families in India priced between Rs 3.07 crore and Rs 6.2 crore (ex-showroom Delhi).

Lamborghini is betting big on the Indian market and expects its sales in the country to double by 2020.

On the market outlook, Agarwal said, &quot;The super sports car segment is around 70 units a year at the moment. In the next 24-36 months, we expect it to touch the 100 mark.&quot;

Lamborghini competes with the likes of Ferrari in the segment with cars priced at Rs 2 crore and above with horse power 400 hp onwards.

Agarwal said India has been seeing a change in terms of customers in super sports car segment. Earlier, it used to be second or third generation entrepreneurs, but today a lot of young first generation entrepreneurs also buying these cars.

Besides, there is also demand coming in not just from metros, but from smaller tier two and three cities, he added.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, has stopped production of the small car, which was first introduced in 2007.

Till date, Hyundai has sold a total of 16.95 lakh units of the model in domestic as well as global markets. It is one of the products that helped Hyundai cement its place in India. &quot;We have stopped manufacturing the model,&quot; a company official told PTI.

The South Korean firm already has a successful replacement for the model in Grand i10, which continues to rake in great monthly numbers since its launch in the middle of 2013. Although Grand i10 was supposed to replace i10, the company continued to sell i10 for a few more years as demand continued to pour in for the model from various quarters, including fleet operators.

Hyundai, which is the second-largest carmaker in India, is shifting its focus towards more premium products in the country.

It plans to introduce a total of eight products in the country in 2017-20, of which three will be completely fresh while the rest will be new versions of the existing ones.

Hyundai is also looking for a big play in the hybrid segment with plans to introduce its model Ioniq in 2018, besides mild-hybrids in its compact cars and SUVs.

With pollution becoming a major issue, the company plans to explore alternative fuel technologies and avail of benefits from government incentives for such vehicles. HMIL does not have a hybrid vehicle in its portfolio in India.

The Tiago Easy Shift AMT comes with four gear positions - automatic, neutral, reverse and manual. In addition, it also comes with two drive modes - sports and city - for a peppy driving experience and city cruising.

French auto major Renault today launched a new version of its small car Kwid in India powered by 1.0 litre petrol engine priced up to Rs 3.95 lakh (introductory price ex-showroom Delhi). 
 
The company currently sells the Kwid with an 800cc (0.8L) engine priced between Rs 2.64 lakh and Rs 3.73 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). 
The new 1.0 litre variant comes in two variants priced at Rs 3.82 lakh and Rs 3.95 lakh, respectively. 
 
Buyers, thus will have to shell out Rs 22,000 more for the new 1,000 cc litre variant. 
 
&quot;With this launch, we look forward to welcoming more customers into the Renault family as we endeavor to aggressively build our presence in India,&quot; Renault India Country CEO &amp; Managing Director Sumit Sawhney told reporters here. 
 
Kwid has been a success in the country with the company having already retailed over 1.65 lakh units of the model since its launch last year. 
 
The new variant of the hatchback comes with a brand new 1.0 litre SCe engine which is optimally designed for better performance.

Suzuki Motor Corp, on Wednesday, tapped the son of the company patriarch to become chief executive, keeping management of Japan`s fourth-largest automaker with the founding family as it tries to recover from a testing scandal. 
 
The widely expected announcement followed an annual shareholders meeting earlier in the day, when the company said it anticipated &quot;major&quot; impact from volatility in currency markets after Britain voted to leave the European Union. 
 
Toshihiro Suzuki, 57, assumes his role after his father, long-serving chairman Osamu, last month said he would step down as CEO to take responsibility for the firm&#39;s use of incorrect testing methods to calculate vehicle mileage. 
 
Osamu, 86, will remain chairman. Having led the company since 1978, the patriarch will extend his run as one of the longest-serving global auto executives, raising questions about how much longer he can run the company. 
 
Analysts said that while succession had been a long time coming, having father and son in the top two positions means Osamu would reign as he has for nearly 40 years. 
 
&quot;So long as Osamu-san remains chairman, nothing much is going to change,&quot; Marusan Securities analyst Hiroaki Mochida said. 
 
But Mochida said in the near term, Osamu was the best hope in fighting off competition in emerging markets including India, where Suzuki commands a market share of around 40 per cent. 
 
Wednesday&#39;s announcement marks the second executive position passed on by Osamu to his eldest son, who becomes CEO nearly a year after being appointed president as part of the succession plan. 
 
Quiet and soft-spoken in comparison to his outspoken father, Toshihiro joined Suzuki in 1994 after a stint at parts supplier Denso Corp, and led the company&#39;s product planning and global marketing divisions.

Earlier on Wednesday, Osamu brushed off a call from a shareholder to relinquish control to take responsibility for lax procedures which led to the use of wrong testing methods, sullying Suzuki`s brand image. 
 
&quot;Stepping down (completely) to take responsibility is irresponsible,&quot; Osamu told applauding investors. &quot;It`s important to stay at the company to prevent a repeat of the worst scandal facing the company (since I&#39;ve led it).&quot; 
 
At the meeting, the company said volatility in the Indian rupee and euro would have a negative impact on earnings, adding it would mitigate the impact through cost-cutting and increased local procurement at overseas plants. 
 
Budgeting for exchange rates of around 105 Yen to the US Dollar and 120 Yen to the Euro through March, Suzuki is already bracing for a 62.0 billion Yen ($605.59 million) hit this year due to currencies, contributing to a 7.8 per cent slide in annual operating profit versus the year earlier. 
 
Analysts said a rise to 100 Yen and 110 Yen in the Dollar and Euro respectively will weigh on operating profit by around five per cent this year, lower than the average hit of around 17 per cent across Japanese automakers expected by JPMorgan analysts. 
 
With a diversified production base featuring India and Hungary, Suzuki has lower currency exposure than Japanese peers. The automaker produces roughly 6.5 per cent of output in Europe, compared with around 59 per cent in Asia excluding China.

To begin to inform a collective discussion about the way AVs should make such decisions, Jean-Fran?ois Bonnefon and colleagues conducted six online surveys of US residents between June and November 2015, asking participants questions about how they would want their AVs to behave. 
 
The scenarios involved in the survey varied in the number of pedestrian and passenger lives that could be saved, among other factors.Overall, participants said that AVs should be programmed to be utilitarian, but the same people also said they would prefer to buy cars that protected them and their passengers, especially if family members were involved.This suggests that if both self-protective and utilitarian AVs were allowed on the market, few people would be willing to ride in the latter, the authors say, even though they would prefer others to do so.
