Reward will be given to people who click pictures of wrongly parked cars: Gadkari

Taking into account the current parking situation in the nation, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari directed on Monday that a reward will be given to anyone who clicks a picture of a wrongly parked car and sends it to the authorities.

Gadkari said that the individual will get a 10% reward, from the authorities, from the proposed Rs. 500 fine charged on the owner of the vehicle.

“In my Motor Vehicle Act, I am going to add one law. Any car on road, you just take the photo on your mobile and send it to the department concerned or Police. There will be Rs 500 fine and 10 per cent will go to the complainant,” Gadkari said Monday. “No parking places are available. People are using roads for that,” he said.

Gadkari said he felt “ashamed” that absence of parking lots outside his own Ministry forced “ambassadors” and “big people” to park on road blocking the way to Parliament.

The Transport Minister also said that it took him nine months to get approval for a 'simple automated parking lot' from the then Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu.

The automated parking lot is being carried out by NHIDCL and will consist of seven floors, enabling it to accommodate around 112 cars.

Gadkari had earlier floated the idea of rewarding Rs. 200 to citizens who click pictures of wrongly parked cars, claiming that it was his personal view and it can only be enforced by putting the necessary infrastructure in place.
