According to NBC Bay Area, a white car&nbsp;with the windows down drove around the parking lot and fired several bullets at the crowd.

Video from the site revealed a heavy police presence, including dozens of police cars and armed cops, on the streets around the school.

When he heard gunshots, Kyle Jackson told Fox 2 San Francisco that he was filming a video.

"I don't know what happened after that, just that everyone started running for safety, and we just being trying to figure out everything since," he continued.

"I was hoping no one got hit, hoping everybody was safe. The students, the parents, the teachers, everyone," he said.&nbsp;

"This is supposed to be the happiest day of their lives. I just hope they can put this in the past and move forward," he added.

Gainer's father calmed him down, but the teen grew agitated again when the police arrived and rushed toward them carrying a garden tool. Gainer raised the "bladed end of the tool and ran toward" one deputy who retreated with the boy chasing him in an attempt to "assault" the officer.

In a statement, the sheriff's department said, "The deputy retreated and Gainer chased the deputy in an attempt to assault him with the bladed end of the tool. A lethal force encounter occurred, and Gainer was struck by gunfire. "

"Deputies quickly rendered medical aid to Gainer and continued until paramedics arrived. Gainer was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries," the statement added.

Lacy, while speaking to Reuters said,&nbsp;a medical professional who had examined Gainer told the family he had asphyxiated on vomit in his throat - an indication, the lawyer said, that prompt medical aid could have saved the boy's life.

The lawyer noted that the sheriff's department had not yet released full, unedited bodycam footage to the family, nor any audio from radio communications between the dispatcher and the deputies.

Lacy further told the news agency that the police knew about Gainer and his special needs, as officers were called to the house earlier in response to outbursts reported by the family.

"Today at 2:22pm sheriff's deputies were dispatched... on the report of a shooting with multiple victims.

"Upon arrival, deputies located four victims deceased with gunshot wounds.

"A fifth victim also suffering from a gunshot wound was transported to Stanford Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

"Shortly thereafter three additional victims were also located deceased with gunshot wounds at a separate shooting scene," the tweet said.

After killing the men, Zhao drove to a sheriff's substation in Half Moon Bay. ABC7 crews were at the site, waiting for a news conference. They captured the dramatic arrest of an Asian man wearing a red fleece and blue jeans, who was pulled to the ground by armed officers.&nbsp;

"Zhao was taken into custody without incident and a semi-automatic handgun was located in his vehicle," Corpus said.

The motive for the shootings was not yet known, Corpus said.

NBC Bay Area, citing a Half Moon Bay city councilwoman, reported that the victims are Chinese farmworkers.

California Governor Gavin Newsom took to Twitter moments after news broke of the new killings.

The 11th&nbsp;victim of the California mass shooting died on Monday (January 23)&nbsp;from wounds sustained during a weekend shooting rampage at a dance hall in the Los Angeles region.&nbsp;The 72-year-old suspected gunman, who was once a regular at the club, killed himself when approached by police on Sunday (January 22).

Huu Can Tran later drove to another dance studio where a "heroic" young man wrestled the weapon off him to prevent another slaughter.

While the reason for the attack is still not clear, multiple law enforcement sources said evidence gathered so far rules out terrorism or a hate crime.&nbsp;

The Los Angeles Times reported that the police are&nbsp;investigating "jealousy" and a personal relationship as reasons for the shooting.&nbsp;

Monterey Park resident Chester Hong told AFP&nbsp; he believed a domestic dispute over an invitation to a Lunar New Year eve party could be at the root of the attack.

"The wife (was) invited to join the party (but) the husband cannot be invited," he said. "And the husband may be upset and jealous."

The 72-year-old suspected gunman killed himself when approached by police on Sunday (January 22), about 12 hours after he had carried out a Lunar New Year shooting rampage&nbsp;at a dance club that left 11&nbsp;people dead and another 10 injured.&nbsp;

The gunman who shot dead 10 people at a Los Angeles-area ballroom dance club, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a van Sunday. It was the same van he used to flee after attempting a second shooting.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna identified the man as 72-year-old Huu Can Tran. There are no other suspects at large. The Sheriff further said that the motive for the shooting remained unclear.&nbsp;

"We want to know, we want to know how something this awful can happen," Luna told reporters.

A magazine-fed semi-automatic assault pistol, the suspected weapon used for the shooting, was also found in the van.

“I still have questions in my mind, which is: What was the motive for this shooter? Did he have a mental illness? Was he a domestic violence abuser? How did he gets these guns and was it through legal means or not?” Congresswoman Judy Chu said.

The Sheriff informed that Tran turned a handgun on himself on Sunday morning as the police approached a white van he was driving in Torrance, about 20 miles&nbsp;from the site of the shooting at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park.

The ten deceased include five male&nbsp;and five female victims, Luna said. Their identities have not been made public. Another ten people were injured, and seven of them are still hospitalised. One of them is in a critical condition, authorities said.

Witnesses at the second venue said that Tran walked in holding a gun that patrons were able to grab. No one was shot and Tran fled, Luna said.

The gunman was found with two semi-automatic handguns and 11 ammunition magazines, although&nbsp;investigators&nbsp;are still trying to determine if the magazines were full, according to Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office spokesman Cian Jackson.

Eight of the victims died at the scene:&nbsp;Paul Delacruz Megia, Taptejdeep Singh, Adrian Balleza, Jose Dejesus Hernandez III, Timothy Michael Romo, Michael Joseph Rudometkin, Abdolvahab Alaghmandan and Lars Kepler Lane. A ninth, Alex Ward Fritch, 49, died late Wednesday after he was taken to the hospital in critical condition, the medical examiner's office said, according to NBC Bay Area.

The city will hold a vigil in their memory on Thursday evening, Mayor Sam Liccardo said.

The suspected gunman had worked for the transit authority since at least 2012, when he was listed as an "electro-mechanic," and was promoted to "substation maintainer" in 2015, according to records posted by the nonprofit website Transportation&nbsp;California.

His ex-wife, Cecilia Nelms, told the Mercury News on Wednesday that he would rant about his co-workers and bosses and would sometimes lash out at her. He complained about what he saw as unfair work assignments at VTA, she told the paper.

"When he was in a good mood, he was a great guy. When he was mad, he was mad," said Nelms, who was married to Cassidy until 2005.

In a March 2009 court filing posted online by the San Francisco Chronicle, a woman who said she had dated Cassidy for about a year described an abusive, volatile relationship in which he forced himself upon her sexually and "played mind games."

Cassidy, the woman said in a sworn statement, "exhibited major mood swings as a result of bipolar disorder" that worsened when he consumed large amounts of alcohol.

Court records show the case was resolved in April 2009.

"Nathaniel Tennosuke Berhow, 16, a Junior at Saugus High School, was being treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, when he succumbed to his injuries. His mother was present at the time of his passing," the sheriff's office said in a written statement.

The boy was carrying out a deliberate plan when he shot five students at his California high school, then turned the gun on himself, a local sheriff said on Friday, but authorities said they had no clues about what sparked the bloodshed.

Two of the other five students who were shot in the Thursday morning attack at the school in Santa Clarita died of their wounds.

"We did not find any manifesto, any diary that spelled it out," Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said at a briefing.

The gunman was publicly identified by law enforcement for the first time on Friday as Nathaniel Tennosuke Berhow.

Berhow initially survived his self-inflicted gunshot wound but died at a local hospital on 3:32 p.m. on Friday, according to the sheriff's department.

Detectives worked through the night to follow up on tips related to the shooting in Santa Clarita, about 40 miles (65 km) north of Los Angeles. The incident, which was caught on video, unfolded in 16 seconds, police said.

Origin of gun

Arriving at school on his 16th birthday, Berhow pulled a .45 semi-automatic pistol from his backpack in an outdoor courtyard, stood in one place and shot his victims in rapid succession before turning the gun and firing the last bullet into his head.

Villanueva said authorities did not know the origin of the gun used, or how the gunman got his hands on it.

All Hart District schools in Santa Clarita were closed on Friday, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's office said on Twitter, out of respect for the victims and their families.

Two girls aged 14 and 15 were being treated at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, California, and were listed in good and fair condition, a hospital spokeswoman said early on Friday.

At the Henry Mayo Hospital in Santa Clarita, authorities said a 14-year-old boy was treated and released. Two other students who had been taken there died. A hospital spokesman could not immediately be reached on Friday.

Evenny Reyes, 13, told the San Jose Mercury News that at first, she thought the gunfire was fireworks but then saw someone with a wounded leg.

"We were just leaving and we saw a guy with a bandana wrapped around his leg because he got shot," Reyes told the newspaper. "There was a little kid hurt on the ground. People were throwing tables and cutting fences to get out."

Maximo Rocha, a volunteer with the Gilroy Browns youth football team, said he saw many people on the ground, but could not be sure how many were shot.

He told NBC Bay Area that "quite a few" were injured, "because I helped a few."

One video posted on Twitter showed a blood-spattered woman sitting in the back of a semi-trailer and telling a man she had been shot in the hand.
