<p>If you thought family sagas were a thing of the past on Indian television then think again as reportedly producer-director Ekta Kapoor is soon to work on a remake of hit Bollywood film “Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham” into a TV show.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The original film that had stalwarts like Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor will now be portrayed by new actors for the supposed TV remake. Ekta Kapoor to adapt hit film 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' into a TV show?

<p>More than four decades after he made his debut with the blockbuster teen romance "Bobby", veteran actor Rishi Kapoor says he now has the freedom to explore his characters and is no longer bracketed in an image.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The actor, 65, who mostly played the romantic hero in his youth, has transitioned into strong character roles, be it the endearing school teacher of "Do Dooni Chaar", the merciless human trafficker of "Agneepath" or the cantankerous 70-year-old son of a centenarian father in his new film "102 Not Out".</p>

<p>"I always try to be different and play varied kind of characters. I am not stagnating in one kind of an image. I am an actor who is doing his job. I am not making a career for myself. What safe (roles) can character actors play? They don't matter at all," Kapoor told PTI.</p>

<p>"Those hackneyed plots are not going to be accepted. It is a healthy thing that actors of my age are getting work today. I am not a young actor. People want to see different kind of films, they are fed up of seeing same formula.</p>

<p>"This is the era of actors now, non-actors are not going to survive. They maybe there for one or two films but if you are not competent enough you cannot survive," he added.</p>

<p>The actor says he will not sign a film if it does not offer something new and challenging.</p>

<p>"I want the role to excite me and I must feel passionate about doing the film. I will not do a run of the mill kind of a film or role. I will not say yes to that. Also, I will not do a film for money."</p>

<p>Kapoor has been a part of Hindi cinema for 45 years but his passion for films has only increased with years.</p>

<p>"I love my work. I am born and brought up into a family of cinema, family of actors. I only know how to act, I don't know anything else. I have been working for 45 years and I have done over 150 films. I am thankful to God that I get paid very much for what I love very much."</p>

<p>What intrigued Kapoor the most about Umesh Shukla directed "102 Not Out" is that the film is about a father-son relationship told in an entertaining way.</p>

<p>"It's a very different story about a 102-year-old man who has a 75-year-old son. I would imagine a son sending his father to old-age home, but here circumstances are such that the father wants to send his son to an old-age home," he said.</p>

<p>Kapoor says it is always a privilege to work with Amitabh Bachchan, who he has reunited with after 27 years.</p>

<p>"Mr Bachchan is a very loved and senior actor... He is the commanding superstar of our industry. And a wonderful actor and colleague to work with."</p>

<p>The two started working together more than 40 years ago with "Kabhi Kabhie" and the last film they did together "Ajooba" 27 years ago, he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kapoor calls himself a "student of cinema" who is always learning something, be it from older or junior actors.</p>

<p>"I picked up lot of things when I worked with Amit ji. The way he romances his role, the way he flirts with his role and gets into the character that is something I observed.</p>

<p>"He lives the character when he is working in that film. It is tremendous. I appreciate that he gives so much of his best even at this age."</p>

<p>Sonam Kapoor says she hopes her upcoming film Veere di Wedding&nbsp;will bring about a change in the way women characters are treated in Indian movies.<br />

The 32-year-old actor launched the trailer of the film on Wednesday&nbsp;along with her co-stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania.&nbsp;<br />

"I don't think a film like this has been made before. It is entertaining and has everything from romance to drama. And why can't a female headline a commercial film that is about girls which has a story? Things might change if this film works, I hope it brings about a change in the roles that are written for us," Sonam said.&nbsp;<br />

The actor also hopes films based on women can help in changing the "misogynistic mindset".&nbsp;<br />

"There is very long way before it happens. People like Kareena are setting an example. She got married and then she was on the sets and after having a baby she was on the sets. Shahid Kapoor got married did anyone ask whether he will work or not. Nobody will ask this question to a man.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This misogynistic mindset is what needs to change and hopefully with films like this things will change. We are hoping this film does well. It is important for this film to do well so we as a women will get our space. We can break the glass in some way or the other," she added.<br />

The first trailer of the film has the actors using cuss words. When asked about the censor certificate, Sonam said she is not the right person to comment on it.&nbsp;<br />

<p>While speaking to news channels at an event, Khan was asked about her opinion on casting couch. The choreographer, strangely, defended the practice and said that it at least 'provided girls with a livelihood.'&nbsp;</p>

<p>The choreograoher stated that everyone takes advantage of women and it is unfair to blame just the film industry for casting couch. " Should I say something? This is going on for ages, it is not new. Someone or the other always try to take advantage of a girl. The government does it too, then why are we only behind the film industry? It provides livelihood at least. It does not rape and&nbsp;leave you," she was quoted as saying by an entertainment website.<br />

Khan added that such cases are consensual. "It is up to the girl, what she wants to do. If you don't want to fall into wrong hands, you won't. If you have art, why would you sell yourself? Don't take the film industry's name, it is everything to us," added the choreographer.</p>

<p>Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav today was granted bail after getting sentenced to six months in prison by a Delhi court. Yadav is accused in a cheque bounce case.</p>

<p>On December 3, 2017, the actor was sent to Tihar Jail for submitting a false affidavit in the case.</p>

<p>According to reports, seven cases were lodged against the actor. Yadav is liable to pay a sum of Rs 1.60 crore as fine per case. Yadav told media that he respects the court's order and will appeal to reduce the punishment.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I respect the court's judgement and will appeal in this matter to reduce the punishment," he said.&nbsp;</p>

In an earlier interview, Esha had stated that she always wanted a love marriage instead of an arranged affair but not without her parent’s approval. She said, "If you find someone with whom you’d be able to spend the rest of your life, someone whose face you wish to see before going to sleep and on waking up, then it’s beautiful. I can’t understand the arranged marriage concept I had to fall in love to get married."</p>

As the entire country is collectively demanding strict punishment against the perpetrators, film celebrities have also expressed anguish and anger at the recent incidents of rape and have demanded swift action against the culprits.<br />

Celebrities such as Javed Akhtar, Abhishek Bachchan, Swara Bhaskar and Hansal Mehta took to social media to condemn the two brutal incidents that have shocked the nation.</p>

<p>In Unnao, a teen rape survivor claimed BJP MP Kuldeep Singh Sengar had raped her and the death of her father in police custody. The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has filed a first information report (FIR) against Sengar.<br />

In Kathua, an eight-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by six men who had held her in captivity in a small temple village for a week in January. She was drugged so that she could be sexually assaulted again before being bludgeoned to death.<br />

Noted screenwriter Javed Akhtar said it was high time that people came forward in support of women rights.<br />
<br />
"All those who wish justice for women should stand up and raise their voices against the rapists and their protectors in Unnao and Kathua.<br />
<br />
"In Unnao, the brother of the alleged rapist is arrested for beating the father of the rape victim which caused his death. So far police have not taken any action in the rape case. The MLA is walking free and has the audacity to call the victim and her family 'lowly people'," he wrote.</p>

'If you don’t feel her terror, you are not human': Bollywood demands justice in Unnao, Kathua rape cases

<p>It's a season of kitschy symbolism in Bollywood with celebrities after celebrities posting pictures with placards that say "I am ashamed", and demanding justice for an eight-year-old girl who was gangraped and murdered in Kathua. The wordings, style, tonality and content of the placards being the same through all the celebrities.</p>

<p>The trend is not limited to the Bollywood alone most of the celebrities from different walks of life have been pronouncing the arrested people as 'rapists' and the temple as the 'scene of crime'. Adding the prefix "alleged" or using the word "suspect" has gone out of fashion in the new secular consciousness.</p>

<p>The purpose of the above act of the Bollywood celebrities is noble and the symbolism isn't lost on anyone. Yet, the choice of words and the absence of sensibilities are appalling. It betrays not only a lack of research on the subject but also a fanatic avidity to pass judgement on blinkered notions. This is bigotry of another kind where a hearsay verdict is to be hurriedly delivered on the basis of one-sided accounts. No counter view is to be honoured even for the sake of balance, let alone for the sake of justice.</p>

<p>It's important to find out who's behind this orchestrated campaign that passes judgement on a place of worship even without a trial, and defames it without any consideration of the basic principles of natural justice.</p>

<p>Let's try to understand the complex social-demographic reality of Kathua, which goes to explain the contextuality of the episode and its fallout.</p>

<p>Kathua - or for that matter, whole of Jammu, Udhampur, Samba etc - has become an unfortunate battleground of a desperate social and demographic strife where constant grabbing (and also, purchasing) of forest lands by the Gujjar-Bakherwal settlers and the state government's alleged support to it, has created a deep suspicion in the minds of the locals who believe that the government is trying to change the demographic character of the region.</p>

<p>This, together with illegal presence of thousands of Rohingyas in Jammu region, is a thorn in the flesh of the psyche of the local people. And the fact that these Rohingyas have Aadhaar and ration cards raises questions on the role of local government.</p>

<p>Further, the Rohingyas are believed to have close ties with ISI. But no one knows how many of these settlers are having direct linkages with the ISI. It's a well-known fact that ISI is constantly evolving ideas to create disturbances in the Jammu region. Investigating agencies probing the recent attack on an Army camp in Sunjuwan are looking at the local support angle and the presence of Rohingya camps nearby might come under the scanner.</p>

<p>In the given scenario, the apprehension that ISI may be playing on this communal tension in the region by hatching a plot to get the girl killed and planting it on a temple, needs to be ruled out. It is apprehended by many local residents that the Rohingya may come as a handy tool to be used for such acts. Various reports have appeared in the media that have confirmed the presence of Rohingyas in the village where the girl was killed. Hence, it's important to allay the fears of the local people by getting to the bottom of the controversy through a fair inquiry.</p>

<p>Further, the circumstantial evidences of the murder create suspicion in the J&K government's chargesheet, which has been prepared by a SIT drawing police officials with dubious records. Using a temple for such a heinous act, and that too by an old man in mid-sixties, and that again for seven days - all create ample suspicions. The locals say that the 'Devisthaan' is a prayer hall with no locking facility and hence it is pretty impossible to keep somebody locked and sedated for seven days in the temple, which was regularly being visited by the devotees all throughout the period due to the festival of Makar Sankranti at the time of the alleged incident.</p>

<p>None of us, including the Bollywood celebrities, know what's the reality. Then what's the hurry to jump the gun and to declare somebody a culprit and drag a temple in the act even without a trial? Hasn't the Bollywood erred in pronouncing the Devisthaan to be a scene of crime even without an investigation? Wouldn't it be a good idea to be patient in passing a verdict until the matter was investigated in a free, fair and impartial manner?</p>

<p>Even more atrocious is the attempt to portray the local Kathua demonstrators as rape apologists. They're not. They're equally horrified by the crime. They're saying the same thing that the celebrities are saying - hold a fair investigation, a fair trial and give harshest possible punishment to the culprits, and for that, a CBI enquiry is needed to find out who the culprits really are. This is indeed required because the J&K Police, like the state police elsewhere, is known for its pliability, inefficiency and corruption.</p>

<p>Chances maybe that the persons arrested are the real culprits. But isn't it wise to give them a fair chance before hanging?</p>

<p>We know how state police conducts investigations and invent 'criminals' - remember Ryan International case of Gurgaon, how the bus driver was declared accused and how people were baying for his blood. However, a CBI inquiry proved him innocent. Thus, baying for the blood of the accused ones on the basis of the local police chargesheet, is nothing but a blunder in view of various counter evidences being floated.</p>

<p>The SIT made indiscriminate arrests of locals and subjected them to various forms of torture. People of the village in Kathua have never had such a harrowing experience ever in the past and are terrified. Many have left their village fearing even more trouble. These people are peaceful communities that hold their temples very precious. But, already their sense of pride is under attack.</p>

<p>Thus, asking for a CBI investigation by the Kathua demonstrators is nowhere an atrocious demand. It's rather the most appropriate act in the given circumstance. Maybe, for the first time ever, I have seen anyone asking for a CBI inquiry and being castigated for it. If Unnao rape case can be handed over to the CBI, why can't the Kathua case go to the same agency, especially when so many doubts have been raised on the composition and intention of the SIT?</p>

<p>Hence, for the Bollywood celebrities, the symbolism wouldn't have lost if they hadn't passed judgment on the 'Devisthaan' that demeaned it and, instead, had asked for a CBI inquiry to clear the air once for all.</p>

<p>I'm an Indian and I want justice for the girl through a CBI enquiry. What about you?</p>

<p>Judge Joshi has been transferred from Jodhpur to Siroh in Rajasthan. He will be replaced by Chandra Kumar Songara, district and sessions judge of Bhilwara.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Mahesh Bora, Salman Khan's lawyer told reporters that he was receiving threatening SMSes and internet calls warning him not to appear for the Bollywood star's bail hearing.</p>

<p>Salman Khan was handed out a 5-year prison sentence by the court, however, the other stars in the case - Saif Khan, Neelam, Tabu and Sonali Bendre - were acquitted.</p>

<p>Salman was sentenced under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act and others under Section 51 read with Section 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code. The Bollywood superstar was also slapped with a penalty of Rs 10,000.</p>

<p>The 47-year-old director, who is in India on a three day trip along with visual artist&nbsp;Tacita Dean to promote the cause of film preservation and restoration, said his aim during his stay is to meet Indian filmmakers and get the better understanding of cinema culture here.</p>

<p>"I have had the pleasure of watching Mr Ray's 'Pather Panchali' recently, which I hadn't seen before. I think it is one of the best films ever made. It is an extraordinary piece of work. I am interested in learning more about Indian film industry and that is the reason why I came.</p>

<p>"Obviously, Tacita and I want to spread our message about reframing the feature films as broadly as possible. And India being the largest film industry in the world is an essential part of that. The other reason why I wanted to come here was from selfish point of view. I wanted to meet Indian filmmakers and learn more about India. I am looking forward to watching more Indian films in future," Nolan said in a group interview.</p>

<p>The director filmed a pivotal sequence of his 2012 film "The Dark Knight Rises" in Jodhpur and he says, "I would love to come back to shoot for longer".</p>

<p>Nolan, who shot his latest release "Dunkirk" on 65mm stock and has been vocal about his fondness for the film as a medium, said it is important to preserve the traditional format for future generation.</p>

<p>"The film culture is always developing in ways we can't predict. The importance of this discussion about films is about preserving it as an option for future filmmakers. We can't say who is going to use or who is not. But one of the things worth pointing out that films as an acquisition medium is still vastly superior to digital imaging technology. Even if you then put out a DCP (Digital Cinema Package)," he said.</p>

<p>The "Inception" helmer met members of the Indian film fraternity today and discussed the various ways of preserving and archiving film as a medium.</p>

<p>Nolan said, "Photochemicals films are a very important cultural medium and it needs to have a place in the future of imaging."</p>

Hailing from the same town in Bihar, Pankaj Tripathi was invited by the District Magistrate and the Jailer to interact with the prisoners. He was invited for an interactive session with the 300 convicts at the Chanawe prison.<br />

The actor spoke to the prisoners about &lsquo;putting in the effort of leading a better life once they are released from prison. He also informed them about the rehab centers all around the state to help prisoners re-join society.&rsquo;&nbsp;</p>

Actor Aamir Khan, often known as Bollywood`s Mr. Perfectionist, says he is "totally indisciplined" in real life, but his work brings out the discipline in him. The actor-producer on Monday launched his friend and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani`s pilot wife-turned-author Manjeet Hirani`s book titled "How To Be Human" here. The book talks about how people can learn from animals around them. In the book, Manjeet has mentioned how her pet dog Buddy Hirani is very disciplined when it comes to his diet. On discipline in his own life, Aamir told the media: "Actually, I am not disciplined at all. I am totally indisciplined. The only thing that gets me to be disciplined is my work so if I was not an actor and not in this field, I would have been the most indisciplined person. "The only reason I am disciplined is because my work requires me to be so. Otherwise, I am not disciplined. I know it`s very hard for people to imagine that... But this is the fact and people who are close to me know that and they know how indisciplined I am. The only thing is work that pulls me back to the track and makes me do what I have to do." Aamir, who was the voice of Pluto the dog in Bollywood film "Dil Dhadakne Do", admits there`s a lot people can learn from pets. "It`s so true that actually, we can learn so much not only from our own pets but from animals around us because they are really less judgmental than we are.
